[Music] whoo hey guys what's going on welcome back to network chuck welcome to Monday for some motivation I know I need some motivation so that's really why I do this it's a selfish reason I want to talk to you guys you can motivate the heck out of me if you can't just let me know if you can hear me and I will keep going here now today I want to talk about the absolute best way to learn this isn't clickbait or anything this is truly what I believe and what I've learned and it's something I've kind of picked up as I've is that become a teacher many of you might know that I work for CBT Nuggets which is what I actually studied to become an IT person and it's uh it's amazing anyways so shameless plug but anyways um I as I became a teacher I had to learn things very rapidly so I can turn around and teach these things and dude it's the best way to learn anything and I know people say people say oh the best way to learn something is to see if you can teach it can you regurgitate it can you go tell your explaining it to your dog the OSI model sure sure but it's more than that and this is this is what I want to tell you guys this is the absolute best way you can study learn something and then also build yourself build your platform so you can actually get that job and I wish I would have done this I wish I so wish I would have done this when I first started but anyways here we go it's Tuesday here sorry I get distracted by the chat somewhere it's Tuesday for somebody all right here we go so if you start when you study the way I study now is I'll go through a topic and I always think about how am I going to teach this topic how am I going to regurgitate this information and that's how I structure my study used to when I when I would study for my CCNA I would just jot down notes like the best way I can memorize it or the best way I could turn it into flashcards not anymore I structure my notes in a way to where okay I'm gonna have to explain this to somebody how can I clearly and concisely explain this make it simple to where anyone can understand it that's what you have to do you and this is what I encourage you guys to do so whether you're studying for CCNA Linux or anything new member welcome mr. Trey alright so whatever you are studying you take those notes I mean you pick one topic I mean the best thing to do is take one topic eating like a domain so if you're studying for CCNA maybe take OSPF or something take that and teach it now here's here's the secret sauce for you when you take this teaching make it public don't just don't just go and tell your wife there's a weird noise don't just go and tell your wife don't go and tell your best friend no make it public make a public platform for yourself so this is my challenge to you guys I want you to create a blog I want you to create a website I want you to create a YouTube channel I want you to have an amazing Twitter account I want you to have an amazing LinkedIn I mean LinkedIn is killer if LinkedIn is the only thing you do you'll be good to go but build your platform those are platform now you may just be starting out you may just be studying and you know nothing and you're just barely inching into the the joys of networking of the joys of Linux that's fine start documenting your entire journey make a blog post about it take what you've learned we're Girja take that into some I mean if you're comfortable making videos you know me I love making videos I think video is the best way to get get an idea across and it's the best way to show someone that you know what you're talking or that you're interested so this is what I would say Oh a new member Jacob O'Donnell welcome to the team I teaching it does make you understand it better that that's obviously a benefit there when you're learning something whatever it is if you have to turn around and teach it you you have to reinforce the topic and you really know you understand it well if you can teach it but then you have the added benefit the added just super-secret thing that when you put yourself out there oh my goodness it just accelerates your platform like you would not believe so here's what I would do super chat from Michael Ackley thank you sir I he says he's been on the fence about making YouTube channel for so long about Salesforce and documenting my journey isn't admin going to developer oh my gosh you should totally do that like that would be here's the thing you don't have to make a youtube channel to become big you don't have to do that you know you don't have to become make a youtube channel to become pewdiepie or ninja or you that's not the reason make a youtube channel to build your platform when you're applying for it I'll tell you this I mean I've interviewed interviewed a ton of people welcome to the membership Luke Osborne thank you sir I've interviewed people for network engineer jobs and when I get a paper I first of all I think paper resumes will be a thing of the past but when I get a paper resume I'm gonna great okay first of all if it's more than two pages you're doing it wrong but I got a paper resume I'm like okay okay yeah yeah yeah old old job Hill jobs I don't care about that though I really don't care about that I'm gonna go straight to their social media profiles LinkedIn first you better have your LinkedIn profile on that resume you better have it there Thank You Felix for the super chat if you have a question let me know sir but you better have your LinkedIn profile on your resume for me as someone who's hired people interview people LinkedIn is is it but you better had that LinkedIn ready to go you better have projects posted on their videos posted on there you I don't think you guys understand the power that you have right now you can demonstrate anything you one I mean the reason people interview us now is to you know make sure you're a real person to see how you speak to see how you are and see if you be you'll be a good culture fit but if you already have a platform out there if you already have a youtube channel or if you already have a few videos posted on LinkedIn or if you've been posting on Twitter and you've been displaying your passion for a technology you've already vetted yourself with that company oh my goodness they'll see you and go wow I want to hire this guy like or this gal I mean it's it's amazing what we can do now so harness the power of social media you're not you're not doing it to become this big youtuber build your profile I just got an email I should publish on my notifications off that that's the best advice I can get for it I really and this kind of inspired up I was actually talking to people my discord and this is what inspired it I asked him hey what should I talk about today and this is one of the things that I'm passionate about is you got to build that platform so take your CCNA topics turn them into blog post them into a video put on your LinkedIn structure your LinkedIn in a way that it looks like a project like if you if you lab DUP spanning-tree today talk about it make a video about it here's here's the secret thing to getting a job they're gonna hire somebody that's passionate they're gonna hire somebody that's passionate about learning and it's your job to display that passion and there's no there's no better way than putting yourself out there on social media no better way just get it done and I guess I might win a third point to this the other way is to start getting involved in the community right now like right now there's people my discordant who are incredible engineers they've been in the industry forever and if you can start rubbing shoulders with these people and asking them questions and showing them if you're showing them that you're interested oh my gosh you immediately have a contact in the industry and you can accelerate your platform like you wouldn't believe new member Brandon Fisher welcome to the team and super chat from Donald thank you the super chat Donald every little bit helps support this channel so I just wanted to thank you I've been trying to get into on the right path to 90 and your videos that really helped and inspired me awesome I'm really uh it's good to hear that super chat from Tom Curren thank you sir transition transitioning to something I can do remote ideas that's an the William Murray has been asking me about this too how to transition into a remote job that's hard that's hard it really is I think this kind of goes into play with what I've been saying right now on this chat is a building up that platform building up that social media platform showing yourself on video is the best thing you can do absolutely without even a second thought because they're gonna they're gonna see oh sorry hit the camera they're gonna see you as person like if you want to work remote you have to kind of verify yourself as a trustworthy person a real person that can be self-disciplined and I can actually do something without somebody over their shoulder so yeah building up that social platforms key for me it took me a long time to find a remote job but what I did man I had searches on LinkedIn like you on LinkedIn you can go and set up these searches and I had a ritual every morning I wake up in the morning first thing I would do is go into my LinkedIn and check out my job searches and I would have I would have like CC and P collaboration CC and P routing switching and how thick these job search terms and the places I wanted to live and work so I'd have it like in Orlando Florida and that was before I knew how hot it was there I'm never gonna live there I went there Cisco live and I melted and I had one in Seattle and I had one in Austin Texas and then a few in Europe because I wanted to move to Europe and I would just search every single morning and and I also had some four remote jobs I would have keyword a remote keyword network engineer remote and these guys there's gonna be the right opportunity that comes up and you gotta be ready for it and what I also do too is I look at remote jobs and I see what they're looking for I it's gonna be hard to find a remote job if you only have like a year experience usually you're gonna want to be there be in the industry for at least two to three years but I think what I'll do is I'll make a whole video about that how to find a remote job because like that's something I'm super passionate about I work remote right now and it is the best gig I've ever had in my life working in remote has flipped my life upside down it's the best thing you can do I think a lot of companies are moving that way so it's the best thing but anyways I guess I should should kind of sum up what the whole thing about the best way to study teach it Sears to teach it you'll again two things will be accomplished if you actually three things will be accomplished if you teach what you learned first it'll solidify that sucker in your mind you you will know the concept in and out second it'll build your platform if you go out and teach it on a social social network somewhere anywhere and it'll build your platform people know who you are if they if you apply for a job and then go to your LinkedIn and they go to your YouTube channel which you should have if you have YouTube channel put that on your resume put on your resume put in your LinkedIn I have to go there and they see you you're passionate about spinning up spanning-tree if you're passionate about learning about BTP doesn't matter if you're just learning or just figuring it out if they see that passion displayed oh my goodness do you know what that like if I I can't tell you what I would have done just as an interview he or interviewer if I would have seen someone doing that oh my gosh you're hired like not even a second thought I'll hire passion over knowledge any any day another super chat from Tom Curren order remote help desk me a good start yes in a way what could often that this is what is kind of the the the negative side of working remote is that you are not there and oftentimes you forgotten about so you have to do yeah you almost have to work harder than anybody else so if you want to start on a help desk as a remote person that's that's totally possible that I know guys who work remote and their help desk but if you're getting that help desk job to try and move up to become a network engineer that's gonna be difficult because to become a network engineer from the help desk you got to come in and show your worth you got to make yourself present out there put your face out there you got to be that kind of person and it's hard to do that when you're remote so yeah yeah you can do it I mean I'll be honest with you when I was um before I landed a job as you know a CBT nugget trainer I got really into finding remote jobs like I was super into it I was listening to all these podcasts about how to how to live remote I was willing now get this I was willing to leave IT to find a remote job because I I switched my values I went I would for a while I was super ambitious I was trying to climb that corporate ladder trying to become the absolute boss engineer and make a ton of money and my values switched Thank You Alonso for the super chat Islands your question if you have one here in a bit and my value switched I had my family was growing I think about that time I had two kids and I I just want to spend time with them more I want to be around the more I was missing moments cuz my long commute and I was away and I just wanted to be around them more so I switched my values and I was willing to do anything I was like how can we I even looked at moving to Thailand becoming a digital nomad I was looking at ways I could bring down my ink my requirements for income bring down my expenses so I could like become a helpdesk guy and work remote I didn't care how much I made I just wanted to live freely have more freedom and if you want me to make more content about that I will because I the reason I'm doing what I am doing right now that one of the big reasons and one of the big reasons I'm working for CBT Nuggets was that journey I would listen I'd have my long commute oh and by the way new member Jorge Ramirez welcome to the team I'd have my long hour commute each way and I just listen to podcast listen to Gary Vee I listen all these people like Tim Ferriss like just inspiring the heck out of me to get out of this rat race so I mean becoming a network engineer is amazing but I wanted to take that and turn it into something that would match my ambition of her life so if you want me to make more content about that that that's something I'm super passionate about garrison asked which what's the best material to learn Python I almost made that my subject for the video today but what I'm loving now is Codecademy it is the absolute best thing in the world I love it to death because the best way to learn Python is to start coding so just doing it and there's kind of a barrier because you have to go install Python whatever whatever computer you have and you have to figure out okay now I haven't installed what do I do and you can you can print hello world but a good job I mean if you're doing that for the first time it is pretty cool but no code Cadden e gets you coding right away like it just boom you're in there doing it you're like oh my gosh I just coded something it's super cool I'll put a link in there I'm gonna go find my link and then I'll be I'm doing something pretty cool actually come up pretty soon i I bought a Harry Potter coding wand which is actually the coolest thing ever so I built the wand they they have a little kits from Kanno and then you can learn coding and I'm gonna do some cool stuff with that here coming up soon I let me copy this link here and I'll post it in the chat where my chat go I lost my chat well here it is listen here super chat from Harris on that link I just posted with some code Academy Thank You Harris how can you get a job after AWS and as your level certs associate level certs most jobs I see on indeed our contract required two years experience which is a turn-off and keeping me from getting those certs ignore the the two-year requirement that is a s HR boilerplate welcome to the team Kyle thanks for joining sir that's HR boilerplate they always put two to three years no matter what the job is it could be the the most entry-level pencil-pusher job ever that I'll get the news huh know how to do is wipe your nose and they're gonna want the 15 years experience ignore that crap I'm cloud technologies is a new thing I mean it's it's I mean it's not that new but it's still a newly sought-after skill if you get that certification do what I said make a platform for yourself start making content about it right now and and apply for whatever job don't be afraid to apply for any job this is three years forget about it apply for it and display your passion you'll win a new member Kyle and Bruno welcomes the team I'll have answered your question yeah like if I were starting today um going down the cloud path is a clear winner I mean I'm studying AWS right now I mean I do guess sorry a sure because I'm just gonna win the battle thoughts that's I would go for the certification and the beautiful part about the cloud is you can you could almost build a lab you can build a lab in the cloud and just like say hey recruiter hey HR person look at my lab I built in Azure it's right here I've done it I've done the work I know how to do it it's right here another thing I would do is uh and I gave this advice on my discord is if you're if you're about to interview to interview for a job let's say the company is blockbuster rest in peace let's say the company's blockbuster and you had that interview on Monday or something or today's Monday you have it on Wednesday what I would do is I would go find employees who work at Blockbuster on LinkedIn you can go to the company you can actually now I'll show you what I do let me open up a web browser here see I'll switch to my screen ya should be going there this is my LinkedIn welcome to my LinkedIn so what I'll do is I'll like let's just say for example Google I'll search for the company Google if I'm interviewing in Google pull up the company I'll go to people and I'll search for network engineer see who's there I can see all the network engineers for Google I'll pick one random person she looks interesting let's see and I'll look and see what their experience is most often they'll have under the experience they'll have like what they work with or what they've accomplished you might have to go back in their resume a bit to see what they've done like she's been happy with routers switches firewalls this is back in 2017 so you know that that stuff is still relevant but like usually what you'll want to see is what they're currently working on at Google let's see if I can find someone else who actually has something going on maybe Dale is doing something come on Dale well no they're not listing their their accomplishments but like if we were applying for Suddenlink you can see it he did some BGP stuff like if you were to look at me let me go to my profile this is how I would structure my LinkedIn and my previous jobs to try and land a job this is when I really built out notice how I don't have anything under CBT Nuggets because I'm not looking for another job but if I were this is how would a structure it I would put what I've accomplished key accomplishments I would list what I've done so migrated this deployed this deployed this deployed this so you would want to look for LinkedIn profiles like this and figure out what they're working on what the technology is at that com trying to figure out as much as you can about the company and learn about it and ask them questions that's what I would do so let me switch back to my face here and bring back up a chat so one set Asher's in a comfortable second place it isn't a comfortable second place I think they're gonna win I'm calling it right now the cash is gonna win AWS it's the cool guy right now he's big he was there first he's doing great and AWS is huge you're right but how many people are using Windows right now how many people are using office 365 like everybody right so just think about that I think Asher's gonna win I posted on Twitter I think the reason I think ads gonna win is welcome to the team jose cruz the reason I think edgers gonna win is because uh ninja I went from twitch to mixer you know the big twitch streamer ninja the 49 player the reason I say that is because well ninja was with twitch and twitch is owned by Amazon not if you guys knew that and mixer is owned by Microsoft Microsoft's gonna win it's just a dumb correlation I made according to cloud wars Asher's number one so that's cool did not know that anyways so what I want you guys to do this is my challenge for you my homework for you I know you're all studying Oh Hawks a super chef from Kyle let me answer this thank you for being an inspiration you're welcome sir he's restarting his journey after ten years of thinking never to be smart enough which is absolutely Hui anybody can do this stuff he's currently studying for A+ that's amazing Congrats and good luck with that a plus is so fun if you don't have study material CBT Nuggets is just about to drop the A+ study material and we got some amazing trainers on that Jeremy Charles teaching it Anthony Sequeira Keith Barker I think everyone's teaching on it Knox Garth I think everyone is doing it welcome to the team triple 7 9 kyla forgot I was talking about you interrupted me with your super chat we could look on a plus that's a really good first first search it'll get you on the help desk and it'll get you going super super high one of my thoughts on arch RHCs a the Red Hat certified is a server administrator system I don't know um I think it's a good one I'm absolutely going to go for it after my lennox plus to compare it there comprar comparable but it's how I was doing job searches before this livestream I was looking up red hat jobs you would be surprised how many jobs came up when I searched our age CSA that were network engineer jobs they would never get network engineers who are Linux well versed actually the job was actually at a as ever isin and then one of Google and one at Netflix they want network engineers who know Linux well Plus right hat is supercool so Zack Morris is asking about the Network+ why do I never talk about it um I think I think the Network+ is okay welcome to the team Charles corn off by the way let's add your last name right thank you for joining never Plus is good it's good it gives you a broad broad understanding of networking and gives you a little taste of cloud and other stuff but it's not the best looking thing on your resume if I would pick vendor than your specific certs if you can if you're still very very very very very very very new to networking go go with that network plus with a new CCNA I think is basically a network plus I would go for the new CCNA um if I'm missing your messages I'm sorry I'm it's hard to parse through all these I can definitely see super chats because they're highlighted and they stay up there for a while but it's hard for me to see every one of them but anyways um I do need to go because my I tell my wife I'd be real quick and I always say that and I never am but no I challenge for you guys that's what I was saying my challenge you're all studying for something I know you are you should always be studying for something what I want to see is I want to see your your websites posted below I want to see your your YouTube channels only see your LinkedIn's I want to see content you're posting that I want to see that I think it will once you start doing this it'll change your life trust me it's hard it's not it's not easy it's not easy at all bruno best resources for CCNA jump into my discord server and network check comm /a discord and I do have the CCNA resources listed but it'll change your life if you start producing content I'd say right now changed my life I started this channel do for the purpose of what I'm telling you to do before my first video I was talking about setting up a lab I was talking about collaboration stuff I was talking about ASAS their stuff I was learning all suppose learning and I did it to build up my resume that was the only reason do it it'll change your life show you how anak Flores I don't know what you're talking about I might be showing you how to do see what I will make a video maybe even a series of videos where I'll show you how to build your platform because that that's a bit I'm telling you I'm super passionate about that cuz it changed my life it'll change yours get getting your he's not WordPress now Jared yes get it getting your certifications getting the knowledge is one fourth of the battle you gotta get yourself out there learn how to market yourself marketing yourself one of the best skills you can ever learn I'll teach you guys that if you want I'll make it I'll make a video series about that because again I am super super passionate and big Florez yeah I was talking about hunt groups yeah one of my first videos I ever actually got popular was talking about see you see em hunt groups it was plenty story I was actually uh I was I was working on the job at the time was a collaboration engineer and someone uh we hired a new guy and I gave him the task of configuring hunt groups and I'm like just go learn it go figure it out Bhogle it he'll he googled it and guess what came up my videos talking about hunt groups yeah he was like looking back at me it was so funny let me drop that discord invitation here because I do have to go soon Network Chuck comm /a discord is the location I'm in there pretty pretty often as powershell relevant yes PowerShell core is amazing I'm using PowerShell every day with Azure yeah learn it it's the it's the the weird cousin of Python and it will be awesome and yeah that's about it that's all I have today guys I'll be doing more Monday stuff I want to try to polish this Monday a livestream up I want to do more cool things and I'm gonna practice what I preach to I'm telling you guys to to teach what you're learning I'm gonna do the same thing I'll be teaching you some Linux I'm gonna record you take what I know I'm a Linux noob I might sound like an idiot sometimes if I want to put myself out there and I'll I'll document that process I'm learning Python I want to put myself out there and learn and show you what I'm learning and maybe the most elementary dumb stuff that someone someone's at the same level I am someone is at the same level you are and they will benefit from that level so many people who teach they're often people who have been in the industry for 20 some odd years and they have the they have too much knowledge they had the curse of knowledge and they can't teach a topic in the way that will benefit somebody who's just starting out so you have a unique ability unique position right now where you are at the beginning stages you know how it feels and to learn something well and then teach it to someone that's gonna benefit so many people it's it really is about all about giving back anyways guys that's about all I have I'm gonna answer one more question one more question I want to parse through just gonna scroll the scroll I'm gonna go to the beginning of the livestream see if I can find a good question let's see and by the way I installed Kali Linux on my Windows laptop today it was really fun um why am i having a hard time finding a question I'll go to the most recent one I can't find one see will with an associate degree in computer system information system without information system technologies will any experience ni te has RHCs a a TBS solution architects associate and rhce how do you get a job you you have a lot of certifications I think it's in a har and that is both a blessing and a curse because people are gonna see all the certifications and go why does this guy have no experience with all these certs so be fighting that battle a little bit that's not the end of the world but you do have to start low so I would apply for it may not be glamorous at first but I apply for help desk job with your certifications and your pedigree you can move up fast to find a company that will allow you to accelerate really quickly but you without experience those search will not land you a network admin job straightaway experience is king you got to get experience first and that's all I have today guys thank you so much for joining me today it's so fun to talk to you guys I will love to continue to talk to you in the discord server if you go join that and join the membership support this channel if you like it's a dollar ninety-nine a month I'll be adding some cool stuff to it and should be pretty fun and it enables me to do more this and focus more my time here anyways guys that's all I have for today and I'll probably post a video throughout the week today here this week if my wife doesn't have her baby soon I was she poor thing she's she's ready so we will be having my fourth and yeah that's about it and I'll be giving away some stuff here soon - so talk to you guys later
