motorcycle adventure dirt bike TV is proudly supported by adventures back in England Rally Raid products giant loop in the United States and adventure moto in Australia [Music] we've been living with the 2018 cuss farmer te 300i for the past couple of months and now it's time to show you what we've been up to do on this Hertzberg win up our playground is filled with tight single-file flowing and technical rocky trails an ideal location to explore the true capabilities of this body we know the Husky three hundreds of the weapon of choice for Earth's Berg light powerful and nimble with excellent handling it is the bike of choice for a reason in the right hands it is a weapon we've all watched the videos of Graham Jarvis effortlessly taking on the impossible and winning but what does this bike with such an awesome race heritage offer the average trail rider this long-term review is about discovering if this bike is compatible with the average Joe or does it's race heritage demand that only top class riders can appreciate and more importantly control this powerful nimble stallions [Music] they decided as soon as I keep one leg I would be spark and push the start button I fell in love a full-face helmet the small see here the hand leaves the ER guys the engine for me it was an almost perfect package but his first ride was on easy to ride the one thing became apparent very quickly oh it's just too heavy for the suspension that comes standard for an 80 to 85 kilogram Rider I regretted not getting the appropriate spring rates for my 95 kilogram weight at time of purchase if the day wore on I felt a little cramped in the cockpit but the beauty of the Husky are the bar mounts can easily be adjusted what I've done is move the handlebars forward in the triple clamps to the most forward setting there's three settings and I've just moved it forward that's perfect for me I like standing on the peaks and getting over the front wheel milliseconds billion espanha have nailed the fuel injection system to this by the word that best comes to mind to describe the response is crisp they're way down in the revs the mid-range or its transition to full power [Music] the bike idles perfectly and power develops in a linear response up to midbrain what is funny awesome is how surprisingly low in the revs this bike pulls that's how you do it let's write down straight I frequently find the self almost idling a long flowing single trail in third and repeatedly found that I could take on the odd steep hill crazily over geared and it would pull me out with little compliant jump over that room with a minute acceleration of both your uncle the transition to mid-range is predictable and from idle to on the pipe is very quick if you want it to be [Music] and this is the beauty of this engine fuel injection combo it's so versatile and satisfies the needs of the average rider and that of the race [Music] for those diehard 4-straight fans this may just be the bike to convert you over to the dark side of two-stroke we're not bad for our pension is even more tempting when you no longer have to mix oil and petrol before you ride the Husky comes with the two option handlebar mounted ignitions oh this is another little cute little button option one is a more aggressive setting but I found the less aggressive - four - setting ideal for my style of riding fuel range has buried to the conditions I've been riding on a day of snotty challenging single trail range went down to 90 kilometers but arrived combining some transport it was naughty single and some faster forest trails and ill range-extended - well over a hundred and twenty kilometers unlike my experiences with older model 300s the addition of a counterbalance shaft that almost eliminates engine vibration combined with the smooth delivery of power from the fuel injection made transport section surprisingly enjoyable to ride almost like an electric engine really because prove one once the recommended spring rates are installed for a rider's weight the suspension on this bike becomes awesome it strikes that unique balance between soaking up the hits and maintaining trial feel it makes the bike feel light and agile and it's not until you see a bit of slow mode do you appreciate the work this classy suspension does in helping the rider take on the tough stuff it was apparent from my first ride on the bike that I was way too heavy for it I can sum just squatting down backwards a little bit so it has a tendency to wash out the bike comes standard with Springs for riders that weigh 80 to 85 kilograms it's surprising but understandable how my additional 10 kilograms of weight cause the bike to squat in the rear end changing the front and rear springs to suit a 95 kilogram rider was relatively easy but if I had my time again I would ask for those Springs to be installed at the time of purchase the live sprinklers work for 80 to 85 kilograms on the fatty springs once the correct spring rates were installed the balance of the bike and handling of the bike became perfect for me I haven't found a need to change any of the compression rebound and preload settings from standard but if I want to all of those settings can be easily adjusted on the bike from the top of pork the forks are excellent they soak up the bumps but also give good feedback to the rider in varying surfaces they help me to build confidence and provide a feeling of sure-footedness there's no harshness as the forks come to the end of their stroke just the resistance to bottoming becomes progressively stronger although compression and rebound settings can be easily altered on the rear shock on the run it's worth spending that extra effort to ensure the static sag is correct via weight when you're back in the workshop the suspension complemented the steering geometry perfectly the bike has a very nimble field Confed to my previous KTM 300 I found it very easy to repack lines in steep hill descents and climbs the steering was an outstanding feature of the bike for me and really enhance my enjoyment of weaving through the single trail the rear suspension linkage does sit noticeably lower than the PDS system on a KTM and I have hawktor hit it on a rock on three occasions but from my perspective it's a small price to pay for the quality and feel of the rear suspension with an engine with this much grunt and no compression braking it's fortunate the bike comes with excellent stopping power it doesn't take too much effort to lock up that front brake but both front and rear are progressive and predictable after moving the handlebar mount slightly forward the cockpit felt perfect for my hundred and seventy eight centimeter high brake and clutch levers are of high quality the rear brake has good feel and the gripper seat was comfortable on those transport miles normally I immediately fit bark Buster's to all of my bikes but at the moment I'm staying with the hand guards that come with the bike as I found them to be excellent ultimately I'll fit my bark Buster's but I'm in no rush the fuel injection has brought an added advantage of a separate two-stroke oil reservoir that allows for easy fills that serve the stations I'll make a habit of filling up the oil reservoir after every ride but you could go two or three rides without filling and I'm not really one for buying accessories for bikes but I've always bought a fiberglass protector for the expansion chamber this was a solid fall that guaranteed if I didn't have protection it would have resulted in significant damage to the chamber and you've probably noticed I haven't bought a metal Bosch plate despite riding in rocky conditions I've been living with my 2018 husky 300 for the past six months and we know in the right hands it's a competition weapon but from an average trail riders perspective this bike has delivered fun and enjoyment by the bucket loads the Austrians have been making 300 for many years and they've been relentless in their continued refinement of this motorcycle and I've kept coming back to the 300 two-stroke because it's such a pleasure to ride in single trail and technical stuff the 2018 Husqvarna te 300 I is the latest and from my experience the best 300 with an awesome engine brilliant handling and quality of finish this bike delivers in spades the fuel injection has now brought two strokes in line with the four-stroke technology and it's been worth waiting for I guess you can't film for months and not have bloopers and they're coming shortly but first a big thanks to John reeks for adding some spice to the review and Greg Villalobos of adventure spec for the supply of footage of Graham Jarvis [Music] Rick's yeah motorcycle model for the day I love you sir bag Bruce Kia great thing about two strikes is the engine oil change is pretty simple just oh I saw that going to the engine it's a gum leaf or or like like uh still something that's handy I saw it going to the engine it's interesting a little get mashed up [Applause] [Music] we may be pensioners my friend but we can still get up you see that youngsters this is how old-timers are doing it you
