I have been an owner since 2016. I have owned all of the S3XY. I am a Plaid owner. All of his complaints are valid. I am personally sick and tired of the “It’s GREAT…but…”
The 2014 Porsche 911 I owned was great, but the expensive oil changes and staggered summer tire replacement was not, but…( Every car cannot be perfection.)
The Bugatti Chiron can do 270mph, but….
“ I can tune my Honda Civic and gap a big block V8, but I am going to blow something up on the drag strip and make everyone wait until they clear my pistons and coolant off the track for 30 minutes.”
I have enjoyed every single vehicle I have owned. I am a stockholder. I want those of you who are still on the fence considering a Tesla product, here’s the only things you need to remember:
Do not buy a Tesla unless you are a homeowner.
If you live in an apartment or Condominium with zero access to single phase AC 110 or 245 volts to charge. Do not consider buying.
Battery degradation exists. It is determined by your driving habits and the temperature of the seasons. Ask any owner of a Tesla vehicle with some miles on it. And no I am not going down that rabbit hole with you. Everyone has an opinion or article they can link. Moving along….
Panel gaps and cheap plastics and malleable rubber trim exist. Yes you are paying $39-150k USD, but in my opinion you are paying for something powering the vehicle you cannot see until you pull back those cheap plastics and malleable rubber trim things that cover the technology.
If your used to your cornering and handling buy a Model 3 performance. Period.
If you want refined comfort and all of the bells and whistles? Buy a Model S or X.
(I tell potential owners that I started in a Model S and upgraded to an X, then “Downgraded to a 3 the up to a MYP” and then came to my senses. I went back to this new generation S.” )
TLDR #6? Pony up and get an S or X period.
7. You know about the negatives from YouTubers and owners. It’s the same honest panel gap shitty paint argument in every single video.
If you have nothing to complain about then it’s not interesting.
Tesla is a non-union corporation paying factory workers $15-30 bucks an hour. My theory is that these “short-comings” come at the cost of pushing as many vehicles as they can out the door and into customers hands as soon as possible.
Lastly #8, EV’s are here. Tesla has its supercharger network. No company has been able to reproduce this architecture and business plan to date. You can talk all day about Porsche Taycan, Lucid, RIVIAN, Ford MachE and lightning.
When it comes down to it, buying a Tesla is buying the supercharger network. Coming from an ICE vehicle to EV in 2021-2022 you will have to give up some of your habits, complaints and paying rent on an apartment to enjoy the benefits of owning an EV.
James May said it best recently about EV’s in general:
“If your car has an exhaust note, that means it’s slow.”
Yes the brakes on the Plaid suck.
I now have to pony up and upgrade the brakes to keep my 50 year old ass from crashing into something in Plaid or Dragstrip mode when I act like a 16 year old. (Which is quite often.)
I rest my case your honor.
Now watch the comments below as people copy and paste my opinions below and pick apart my argument. Fucking love Reddit!
EDIT: Thank you for the award!
I do like the honesty of the review. I have a LR on order, and can't wait to get it, but I am prepared for the small issues you deal with when getting a Tesla.
Anything from the Fremont factory will def be far from perfect. But for what the car offers, and at that price point, I'm willing to forgive the little panel gap issues. The Taycan Turbo S starts at $185K USD, and goes up to $240K USD fully spec'ed.
What tires do plaid owners use in winter climates like Canada?
Who is this guy? https://youtu.be/cfcx0ASio-U?t=331
Thanks to all who watched the 55 mins! She was a long one!
