Please note that this website is currently a work in progress! Lots of interesting data and statistics to come.
I'd like to see more guesses about what they will announce and what it means in reality. My guess is:
They will show off the new hardware 3.0 along with what it can do now in beta vehicles. This will include driving completely from point-to-point from surface streets, to highway, to surface streets and parking in a driveway. They will go through their plan to run a Tesla Fleet of autonomous cars by 2021.
They will announce that since January 2019, all Tesla's built have had hardware 3.0 included. Until June 2019 they are going to offer pre-purchase the FSD upgrade on 2016+ Tesla's at a discount. Actual upgrades for those 2016-2018 Tesla's that have purchased FSD will start in July with the goal to have everyone that upgraded before July 2019 installed before the beginning of 2020.
There was a lot of hype going into this. "Tesla will free investors from the tyranny of having to drive their own car," says Elon on Twitter. He told Lex and repeated here - no hands in 6 months and no need to pay attention at all in 12 months. He also says here that they could be producing cars without steering wheels and pedals within 2 years. These are some HUGE claims and none of what I saw backs up their hubris.
The first part of the talk was meant to show that they have a powerful chip. Ok, now show the only thing that matters: is it powerful enough for FSD? Because HW 1.0, 2.0, and 2.5 were also supposed to be powerful enough.
The second and third parts were basically machine learning hype. They talk about all the cool stuff that machine learning can do and give the layman, shiny blackbox overview. Acting like all you have to do is feed it "data" and it magically gets better, glossing over the limitations and difficulties. Ok, now show the only thing that matters: can your ML model do anything that others can't already do? Because there's a looooooot of daylight between where they are now, just having introduced stop light detection and dead-manned summon within 150 feet, and where he's saying they'll be in one year.
The only thing lacking here is the only thing that matters: any kind of verifiable stats. Proof. Evidence.
I'd love to see all his claims come true, even if they're a bit late, I don't care. But, I don't know...it just doesn't add up. Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence and I don't see any of that second part coming from Tesla.
someone will record this right?
Some hot takes from Elon in this one.
"They'll all dump lidar. Mark my words."
"Lidar is a fool's errand"
"Full self driving in 2 years"
"Any robotaxi that is not electric will not be competitive"
I'm loving the tech talk on their new chip.
I think the best part of this is all of the talk about how they use shadow mode. Which a number of people on this sub swore didn't exist.

here is the full presentation on youtube
Hmm. Well, not the first time Tesla has promised something in autonomy and been late with it.
