hey guys today I am so excited because I am finally sharing my 2016-2017 teacher planner with all of you before I dive into it I want to give you such a great big thank you to all of you who have been such wonderful supporters of me and of my planner I really try to make it the absolute best that it possibly can be I want to make sure that it's functional it's beautiful at the same time and that it's purposeful for me having a planner staying organized is really important for my home life for my teacher life and for everything else that I do outside of my home and work so another thing I want to tell you is to make sure you wait until the very end of the video because I have a fantastic surprise for all of you so please keep watching unto the very end of the video so that you can get in on this little surprise so before I show you my teacher planner I wanted to talk to you about some of the things that I did differently last year and I'll leave a link down to that video as well so last year I used the martha stewart ark binder and what that is is they're just little discs that go alongside of the binder that pull the binder together it makes it really easy to be able to insert and take pages out of the binder and then you can just kind of customize it to the way that you want it to be well this year I decided to do something a little bit different I like to try new things I feel like it's fun it keeps me on my toes but here's what I did for Christmas I got the Heidi Swapp um cinch it's called the cinch the Heidi Swapp the cinch we our memory book keepers the cinch and what this does is it makes your notebooks into spiral-bound notebooks which I am so excited to finally be using I did a few tests at home with a few other little notebooks that I wanted to make before I decided to do it with my actual teacher planner because my teacher plane and let's just be real like that serious business so I was so excited and I am sharing this process with you so that you guys can kind of see how I made it um the first thing that I ended up doing I decided to print out my planner at Staples so if you go to Staples calm and I think it is forward slash printing you can go and click into an option to upload your file and have it printed from there I did some different selections as far as the paper and how I wanted it printed for paper I ended up choosing 32-pound bright white paper I love this kind of paper because it just feels so nice and silky it's very thick you don't have a lot of bleed through to it and you don't see the pain the backs of the pages showing through so definitely 32-pound bright white paper is by far my favorite type of paper to use for my planner I also made sure that I selected to have it printed head-to-head now what that means is that it's going to be front and back you're printing double-sided and had to have means that it's just when you put it up it's going to mirror it basically so everything's facing nice and straight and forward on your pages so I selected head-to-head printing and then I had those printed I chose black and white because well I don't have a lot of color and my vibe and my planar the only colors that I did decide to use work for my covers and those that ended up just printing those at home I used cardstock to print out by covers and then I laminated those using five mil laminating pouch pouches now this is important because the three mil are not going to be a sturdy yes it's still hardly a minute but it's not going to be as thick as you would want it to have for your cover of your planner so I chose five mil which is what my laminating machine can go up to if you want to get something that's a little bit sturdier than that there is 7 mil and there's 10 mil but you would have to get those done at your local staples OfficeMax office depot whatever is near you so choose whatever works best for you 5 mil works pretty nice for me because I know that I'm going to be switching these out um whenever I get the chance once you have it your cover completely laminated you will also want to think about what you want you want to have for your that cover so for me I just ended up using just the plain back cover I didn't do anything special for it so I take just to cover our color you could take a color cardstock you can print out another um teacher planner cover if you'd like or you can use just a plain white cardstock make sure you laminate that as well you have both of them laminated and also be mindful that when you are laminating you will want to make sure that you keep all of the sizes as even as possible I don't want to cut off any of the excess lamination only because that this is going to help protect that paper that I'm putting it with I wanted to almost kind of cover the paper a little bit down and go over the edges so that I know that my inside of my teacher planner is going to be protected so really be mindful that when you are laminating those sheets that all of the edges are completely equal here's what you do afterwards once I had everything printed ready to go I got out my Heidi Swapp machine so that I can start punching all of my paper and putting it into the beautiful beautiful binding so for the paper how you have to print it as there is actually a kind of a chart that's on the machine that will tell you how to bind it so you bind one half of it first you pull out that bottom measuring tab and then you're going to insert it all the way to the bottom now this is really cool because you can pull out the little tabs so that it doesn't allow it to punch a hole for regular Alette eight-and-a-half by 11 sheets of paper you are going to pull out the number 10 so you pull out the 10 tab and it won't leave a hole punch in there so you don't have that awkward little half hole that comes out I've done that before I made the accident the first time and it will never happen again so after you have all of your paper nicely hole punched and ready to go on the side of the Heidi Swapp machine you can insert your coil your metal coil that you're going to use to put your paper in that's your binding so you insert that and you're going to place all of your paper facing first once you have your paper in then you place your cover facing up and then you're going to put your back cover now whatever you want to have on the back I chose to have a patterned sheet that goes on the back of it and so the back was actually white so if you turn it around it's all white now that has to go facing the white side has to go facing down so the printed side is facing up and that would allow me to have a just a blink back cover I didn't want anything fancy on the back so once you do all of that you can take it over to the very back of the machine this machine does it all it hole punches it it helps you to put in the paper and it binds it for you which is phenomenal and you fix your tab for the width of how thick your coils are the metal coils that I used are made by American crafts and they're really beautiful they're gold covered gold covered fake gold but they're gold covered they're absolutely beautiful and they are 3/4 of an inch thick so those are the ones that I use I love the gold I really like I feel like it just makes it really pretty and classy so that's the one that I ended up going with so once you have all of your paper your cover and your back already set and ready to go then you will take your binding lift it up and then take it to the back of the machine this is where the machine is going to help you to press it in so that it makes that nice beautiful ring shape and it binds all of your paper together so once you figure out what size you had it minor 3/4 size set my machine at 3/4 and this will tell the Machine when to stop depending on the width it'll tell it when to stop so you're not pressing it down too far and messing up your binding so once you have that set you push it all the way very back to the back open side all the way back to the back and as you're holding it there you're going to pull the Machine down and that will bind it for you cut off the excess that you don't need and you're ready to go then it's already set and done and it comes out to be so beautiful and I absolutely love it right now because of the fact that well I have my weekly planning pages in there I'm not going to be adding anything right now if I end up needing to add something the beauty about having this machine at home is that I can simply open it up insert that paper that I want to insert and then rebind it there so I can always keep it nice and neat and together ok so not to keep it waiting much longer let's go ahead I'm going to show you and open up my teacher planner so that you can see the inside of it I haven't done anything much to it at the moment but I'm excited to show you guys how beautiful it really came out I'm very proud of help how simple and just classic it really looks you can add that color by using pins washi stickers anything that just fits you and your personality definitely add it into that planner so that it can really be yours but that's what I'm planning on doing myself stem excited to be showing you guys some of the things that I'm also working on in the future so remember to make sure you hang tight until the very end of the video so that you can check out the special surprise that I have for all of you guys all right so let's dive on in and get started with our walkthrough okay so here is my 2016 2015 teacher planner I'm really excited to show you guys my planner and some of the different things that I've done this year I did do a couple of things different just because a few things I just didn't really care for with my last planner I just like to make sure that I'm doing something that's going to meet my needs every single time so I'm going to walk you through my planner and show you some of the different things that I've done so I have switched my planner so this was my last year's planner and this is the Arc System this is the martha stewart binder - pretty dirty and it's already starting to break over here a little bit from me switching out some of my my rings but I mean I have absolutely love this and if you follow me on Instagram you would have noticed that I talked about how Martha Stewart came back because for the longest you could not find these at all in staples so if you have a staples near you definitely go check out their Martha Stewart election they have them in gray and teal which are both so absolutely beautiful I had already made the decision to do it like this so I didn't I get one although I really do want to get one just to have it on the side in case one day I decide to go back to one of these um so I've changed it for a number of different reasons if you kind of look at my planner right here I mean this thing is huge it is jam-packed full so it's changed from this to this that's a big difference on how much how fat these planners are so I wanted to sump get something that was a little bit more a thinner I guess is what I could say but I also received for Christmas a spiral binding machine and it's the Heidi Swapp collection I'll leave a link down below to that machine if you want to go and check that out but so I have my gold spiral bound notebook the thing that I love about having my machine is that I can switch these out as much as I want if I end up needing to add more pages I can very easily take these off and then rebind it I probably had to try to do this I think three different times before I finally got it right I did have some issues with trying to make them not flat on certain sides and I have like a couple in here that are still like that but this one looks way better than it did with the other three that I tried to do it with so I took one of the covers that I had four as a option in my teacher planner and I know some of you are already going to say how can I get my name on it and I promise you I am working on a free update for the planer to make sure that the image quality is still really really good that it doesn't come out fuzzy and then you can still go through and add your name I will tell you which font it is and I will even give you the link to the font that you can go and change that and put your name in there yourself but so here's what I did I have a hard laminating machine which I absolutely love and I bought the five mill pouches which are a little bit more expensive but it was well worth it because I know that if I decide to switch out some of the planners because I am thinking about making some really fun themed planners as well as an update I can also do that I printed out the cover on cardstock and then I laminated it with the five mil now something that I did do is I rated through the Eliminator three times just to make sure that it was absolutely closed in and I didn't have anything that was going to going to open on the edges so that's a tip for you definitely make sure that you're running it through about three times just to make sure that it lasts really well for you and the five mil is absolutely fantastic if you want something that's thicker there is a seven mil and a ten mil only those you have to get done at a store so you may have to send those to Staples and have them laminate those for you because those are not an option that you can buy for pouches or at least I haven't seen those yet if you have seen those pouches definitely let me know put them in the link although my machine will only laminate three mil and seven mils so I laminated my cover just for the durability and then when you open it up a feature that I decided to add into my planner is I took my County I took their calendar and I just laminated it and I did not laminate it with this the five mil I'm limited it with laminated it with the three mil and then just cut off the extra edging for it and then put it right here in the front just so that I can have a really nice reference for anything that I you know for any of the days off any of the half days teacher in-service days I just wanted to make sure that I had that in my planner so that was one of the things that I did put so immediately as soon as you open up the very first page to my planner you're going to notice that there are some differences from last year's I changed the font to this font which is kind of like the bat marker fonts that everybody's been using for you know this that calligraphy and I find it that's just so beautiful I did it change up the clipart I didn't really put too much clipart into this planner only because like you guys know I get bored what things really really easy so I don't want to add all too much stuff into this planner because I know that I'll get tired of it very easily here I added some different options for you too so there's a district phone number in case you need to get hold of HR if you need to get a hold of just anybody at the district office for your County or your district however that works I have a phone number in my classroom you know so I wanted to make sure that I put classroom phone number I know some of you guys also have phones that are in your classrooms and if you don't you can just leave that blank cover it up with some fun washi make it cute so down here at the bottom is in case of an emergency and then I put my husband's name and then I'm gonna put my mother's name in there as well on the next page what I did is I inserted my year two glints calendar now if you don't have this this is a free update for the teacher planner should go back to Teachers Pay Teachers redownload it and you will get this into a zip file so you can just easily insert that into your planner so I like using a year at a glance planner just because I know that you know there may be times where I'm going on vacation and I want to mark those out for instance I know for sure that I am going on vacation in July so we're going to go to the beach and we'll be gone the 1st 2nd 3rd 4th and 5th so those are my vacation days you can highlight it you can underline it you can circle those numbers however it works for you I also know that there's going to be some other days that I may want to go out and do some professional development so I can circle some of those dates but it's just in there as an option so that you can keep track of anything that you want to keep track of during the year your next pictures are parent contact information these have changed up a little bit last year's planner it went all the way straight across with the student name parent name address phone number and then email here I didn't quite like that very much I didn't like the way my handwriting looked in it I didn't like just the whole setup of it so this year what I've done is I've used nice little blocks for students so they have student parent name phone number address and email you can fit one two three four five six having eight students on each page I went off and printed extras of the parent contact information I have 48 kids this year since I am team teaching so I wanted to make sure that I printed off enough of those I got these little magnetic I think I got these from the bookstore I've also seen them in Target they're really really cute but these are just little magnets that you can hold those all together so that's what I'm doing I'm holding together all of my parent contact information the next thing that I have is parent contact lock this is a new addition to the planer this year I found that there were times when I went home and it was you know it was late or I had to call a parent or a parent was calling me and I wanted to make sure that I kept track of all of that I do have a binder for my parent contact like conferences and just any kind of contact that i have with parents just that i can keep a record of it because you never know when you're going to have your principal or a parent come back and say something and you want to have everything written down so I did insert this just because I don't want to carry around my parent contact binders and then my planner as well I can just carry one thing and then I write down the name for who I was talking to the date the reason and if I sent a note or if I have a note somewhere else so you can easily just add that information in there and then I have a few pages of those that I've inserted next up this one hasn't really changed much except for the the fonts on the page but this is your catalog information I've already started adding some of my new account informations in here so I covered that up with my washi tape but it's pretty much the exact same thing it's just nice to have so that you always have a reference to this username and passwords because I know we all have a ton of them and they're constantly changing um the next pages are going to be the special dates to remember last year this was my happy birthday and I switched it out from happy birthday to special dates to remember because I think I'm going to use this as my kind of everyday date and tracking my planners and schedules planner it's not only just going to be my teacher planner but it's going to also track my dates because I'm also doing bullet journaling on the side too which is working out best for me so now there's more lines in for each month I've taken off all the clipart it's really clean streamlined so I can add in any of the special dates that I want to remember in here so after the special dates to remember I have the meetings and professional development I know some of your principals are really good about giving you your meeting dates ahead of time so you can go ahead and write all of those in and just reference to it whenever you're doing your scheduling some also have to keep track of their professional development that they're doing maybe you're doing book clubs or readings and you need to insert that in there to be able to turn in those hours at the end of the year to keep your license current so that's what this page spread is for the next one is your afternoon transportation I just want to make sure my students get there in the morning I don't really care how they how they get there in the morning so long as they're in my classroom but their afternoon transportation is the absolute most important because I want to make sure that my students are getting home correctly so I have bus numbers available for you again this one just didn't really change much I just took away the clipart added the really nice font up here and then you have after-school care activities car rider Walker and all of the bus numbers up here so you can insert your students names the next spread is for medical information now this has changed a little bit from last year last year it said allergies up at the top and it was mainly for students who had allergies this year I know I have some other needs in my classroom so I know students who have daily meds you can write their names here and some of the different days or times that they have to have those meds allergies can go over here serious medical I do know that I have a students who is going to who has seizures seizures so I can write that student's name down there and then any type of other so you can label other up here or just write the names with their specific medical need down here at the bottom so now it's a little bit easier because you can keep track of of several different types of medical information versus just keeping track of allergies I've changed my note section in my planner to having a grid for I had limes in my last planer and I like having notes in this one as a grid because I do like to do my drawings I drop my classroom layout in here I put my thumb if you have a seating chart arrangement and you want to keep those in here you can definitely do that copy it for your sub binder and just put that right in in there but it's a great little reference for me and then there are other times when I just like to doodle so I just put those in there too so you have plenty of sheets of those and the great thing that I love about having a binder a planner that I can actually go through and print it out myself is that if I need more notes I can go in add more notes if I need to you know if my son ends up dribble or scribbling and drawing on my pages I can change those out with new ones so you can really make those planner fit your needs if you don't need to have any of these so then don't print it don't put those inside of your planner so I have several of those notes um something else that I have changed is the monthly beginning layout so now in for July planning it looks a little bit different I did notice that with the last one I just didn't use it as much as I wanted to use it I'm hoping that because of this I will try to use it a little bit more so here I've put down top five tasks for the month just noting that if you have five things maybe that you absolutely want to make sure that you get done it could be that for the month of July I want to make sure that I have all of my standards for the first nine weeks broken down I want to make sure I have a curriculum map ready to go I want to make sure that I have all of my birthdays and just little things like that maybe during the school year it could be to clean out a certain file cabinet to start going through certain things but this is more of that long-term planning where you have you can want to get it done within the month it doesn't matter when you get it done to that month so long as you get it done so that's what this is for you have another spot to put student and faculty birthdays here school events here and then your goal what are some of your bigger goals for this month and then any type of notes that you want to add in here I just put a nice little bow the they're just for some fun cute I was looking at my planner from last year this planner is nowhere near as cute as what it was last year last year I had all these cute little you know washi tapes and this and that I just realized that I wasn't using it that much I did like the QT I could see I did enjoy that very much I just wasn't serving the purpose that I wanted it to serve I am thinking about adding my tabs here which I did go ahead and cut out some of my tabs so this is the cut out there and then you just fold it in half I'm thinking about trying to laminate it to see how well it comes out and then placing those right there on the monthly planning spot so that I can just flip to that month pretty easily so I'm still playing with that a little bit to see how much I like it um the next two-page spread is going to be your monthly layout so let me run you through some of the things that I've changed here up here I had almost like duty or something to that extent I can't really remember I guess I could look at my old planner it were actually was just blank and it had kind of these little dashed lines around it and I ended up changing it to straight lines I changed it to with the fonts for joining July 2016 up here you can just write any type of quote that's just inspirational to you that wants to keep you motivated but you can write that in here all of us have different things that motivate us maybe you're more of a religious person that wants to have a religious quote up here that's completely fine you know maybe your ones that like that hashtag girl power that likes to put all of those up there so definitely just put this as your inspiration board and you can just add anything up here something else that I've decided to change for this month because I found that it was driving me absolutely insane is that the number boxes have moved from the top left to the bottom right let me tell you why is because I did not like writing in between the box and the top part I wanted it to go all the way straight across versus it being me writing in between these so I decided to change that up and just move those down at the bottom I do really really like it right now I'll let you know if I continue liking liking it throughout the year it may change I don't know I've also added national holidays so any type of a national holiday that we would recognize or the majority of people would recognize I did go ahead and add those in there as well so all of those have been added in the next really really awesome major cool thing that I have finally put back into my planners is predated weekly painting plate planning at pages now I will tell you somebody had left a comment on my teachers pay teachers when they were doing my review and they said that they were really disappointed because it didn't have enough spots for elect high school teachers who have seven periods so I went back through and I changed it to where you can either print out the five four five subject areas or you can print out four seven subject areas so I'm now offering both subject areas in that planner so if you need more subject areas and you like having those definitely go back and re download that at the in my store and you will get both both files so I added lines in here just because I like to keep my handwriting neat I get really paranoid about my handwriting being crooked and it's just it drives me insane so I've changed that a little bit I am thinking and this is something that's pretty cool and I think it's really exciting for me and I forgot to show it to you earlier but I am thinking about making some stickers that will fit into these boxes for my different subject areas so that I can just put stickers and then maybe even add a little bit of color into my planner as well because my planner is pretty boring as far as it being with no color but that's the beauty is that you get to add the color the way you want it so I know not all of us have the same color preferences some of us like the really bright neon colors I'm more of a pastel very subdued colors I'm not a fan of a whole bunch of colors so what I've decided and I don't know how well you can see these in here but I have started making practice stickers I guess is the way that I can say it some of these are up here ours like the dollar sign this one stands for meeting this is important a book that I'm reading this is for grading this is for one we have half dates this is for any type of conference that I'm having and then this is a day when I have a teacher in-service day so it's a little school um the plain ones I have pink and then I have kind of gray because when I am doing my students birthdays I was going to put pink for my class grey for my team class so I could know which class that they were in just off the top of my head um and I'm also making these box squares which are going to fit absolutely perfect and I was really nervous and I didn't want to stick it automatically so I'm still nervous and I don't know if I want to do that just yet but it fits perfectly into that square you can write the date wherever you on the little flag up here and then put your special message that you would have put in there but this was something that I thought was really cool it would make my planner very unique to mean um if you like the idea of me doing these just let me know hit me a shout out what I did do I don't know if you guys can see that this little background here is my background to my planner so I am very matchy matchy and very boring I know I'm not too much fun so I added that in the background there for all of my little notes area that'll fit into my squares for my monthly I don't know I thought it was cute but this is how I plan on adding some of my color is just by putting those stickers into my planners here and then putting those in here q so if I have maybe we have an assembly or something to that extent I can put a little exclamation mark here and then write down assembly so I could have it here I know that this is for the month of July so there's that I can put that there and then just write down as simply there so that I can have it for it to go in there so that's what I'm doing that's what I'm thinking so I'm thinking about adding my stickers for my different subject areas here and for me it's going to look a little bit different this year because I am going to have my morning meeting here my am reading am writing am reading p.m. writing p.m. reading since I'm teaching only ela this year so that's something it's a little bit different I like the stickers it just adds a little bit more of a flair and it really makes it pop against the black and white so that event it's really going to pop out to me so each one is going to keep going what I decided to do is that if the month ends let's say I don't think you have one let me see if I can find it yes so like on this month it starts in August so the 29th that week starts in August but it ends in September I went on ahead and added that weekly in August if that makes sense so it started in August ends at September so the next one that you have in September is going to be the next week so it jumps from 2 and then to 5 for the Monday so I went on ahead and just if it started in that month that's where I put that weekly planning page so if you're looking for it make sure you flip back to the last month planning weekly planning pages I kept things to take away exactly the same I didn't really do anything other than just changing the font to it so all of that is pretty much the same in here so then in the very back you have your student checklist I didn't change this one up at all other than just moving the fonts I really liked the format of it last year so I just kept that exactly the same so after that and my last year's planner I had um my curriculum map well it was my Common Core standard so if you guys remember I had that to be honest I did not use it as much like look there's no writing in it at all so I didn't use it as much I didn't want to bulk up my planner this year with it so I decided just to not put that in there so something else that I'm doing this year is I am still using plan book calm I plan on continuing using that because I really like the easy how easy it is just to make sure that everything's all planned out you're attaching your standards to it but it offers a little part in there one and I can probably do a walk through with you guys two on one day let me know down below if you want to see one of those where I can just show you all the ropes of how to work with plan book comm I would love to do one of those videos so let me know what you guys think but um it will tell me exactly what standards I've taught what days they were taught and how many other standards I still need to continue teaching so I'm just going to leave it there and I may just put my curriculum at map in a different planning notebook or binder of some sort so this is Maya 25th 2016 2017 teacher planner okay guys so that is the end of my 2016 2017 teacher planner walkthrough I hope you guys really enjoyed this planner and now it is time for the surprise so I am giving away a complete teacher planner and what that means is I'm not just giving you the download I'm printing it out for me for you and I'm also binding it for you I would work with you whoever the winner is as far as what cover you want specifically how do you want your name to be put on it and then I will have that shipped straight to you so
