Super Metroid (SNES) Part 1 - James & Mike Mondays

we're doing ourselves a favor for finally playing Super Metroid I mean we played it before this is a game we're familiar with but we haven't played in a long time and we're going to see how quickly we can get through the game but I don't think we're going to beat it in this session it's a long game it's just because we don't have enough time right now we had to play a bunch of other games we're busy playing CDI that's why we've been trying to play Super Metroid for a really long time so we want to at least get it started yeah so maybe sometime in the future we'll come back to it and finish it up but for now let's see will be our first part of Super my first part and we'll see how many parts this amounts to a trial on listen all right I love this opening scene this is amazing and then Metroid 3 and he comes this breath of fresh air listen that's like oh thank god were playing a good game yeah yeah because we just came off of playing a CDI huh yeah last game we play the boys was sailing yeah great where I was telling me why actually all right no way boy that was amazing when you heard that voice for the first time and you can actually it was a voice that you can understand not like the Annie Annie prior to this like Mary Marsh man yeah you know it's a really big deal you might as well just go through you know watch the cutscene is an epic intro it really was this is one of the best openings to a game at that time and they even like are talking about the previous games here like this is yeah basically the ending of the first game correct yeah and I don't know if they mentioned the second game which we played through the second oh yeah next I forgot Metroid's on their homeworld yeah and that is from the Game Boy game right I was talking about that in fact actually this ticks up yeah this is ad hatched and then it filed her mmhmm yeah this is it that's the game boy game now from what I remember this actually starts on a space station of some sort I before you go to the planet yes I hear she's talking about the distress signal and the attestation is under attack so we're going to go the station first we see an early appearance of ridley we're all going to get a late much much much later which we're not probably gonna get to do I am sure so why does nothing so far everybody's dead is there here we go this will break open ridley comes their first appearance of an actual metroid very early on in the game and this part's just [ __ ] basically it's like you just get hurt until it like it ends like you're not actually what happens yeah yeah like I think once your life gets below like 60 or something something it just ends in you yeah yeah I'll just keep doing it anyway this look it's how I practice right it's just I like the edges of the controls yeah I mean this whole section really does just get usefully control I mean that is Ridley right yeah yeah it's the area there there yeah I'm going to do the old whoa duck for cover now we go at the time limit how we're going to make it out of here back to our ship the other sections really just like giving just blue controls the boom it's basically the last scene of aliens yeah so with obviously what's great about this game in comparison to the nes game is that we have a map only a lot of people complain about that but there is always a metaphor we do have a map I forget no we had to use like inattentive power and [ __ ] you remember how I was I was a pee but I so first metroid game to have a map well and later on they released the original metroid as zero mission with yeah that was good i played that one yeah is good i don't know if you ever played through metroid fusion but i loved that game i sharted it actually i never did finish it the great Metroid and I love this here how you actually begin the game by going backwards through where you start in the first game where you defeated Mother Brain and you are going left but now you're actually revisiting the spot where you Brio so the end of the pit so you're telling me all along hang on well she had to do it up yeah the end of the you're telling me all along that the beginning of the first game was actually right next to where the ending is I think that that's probably they just I think they change their for this game do they not well I think in the original game they want you more fall in there yeah in the original game this is you know you start there but you don't actually go there's nothing to go up to okay what it is so they made this into like an elevator okay so that's almost like a joke you can't get it oh my god that's awful many I go find more missiles but yeah I got more I think I feel like later on you might come back here because you can move you can blow up right here like when you're living in the middle but you don't have the more fault bomb yeah although I think you can blow something up there that's but I think so I like when you get the x-ray and you can see through the wall the x-ray is really helpful yeah because then it shows you where you can like you know shoot and find path passageways to go and all that yeah yeah yeah boy those were wondering if shitty enemies I had in my muscle oh these yeah I hate anything dude a little turds like armor Turks or deems that thing is on the front cover of Metroid it is out of all things to be uncovering and well though I remember those in those like butterfly things yeah big things oh those like grasshopper things that that jump around all kinds of media and video all right BOM ba ba BOM BA Bom Bom Bom now you're pretty good at bubble bobble right you've like beaten that bubble bobble bubble bubble yeah one thing I find a little bit similar is when you have to do the [ __ ] it's it's alive oh yeah over that I was so shocking anyway comes alive yeah what about so when you so now you can do like the trick where you can get higher up when you drop the bomb like if you're in ball form I don't want to do it right now I'm just saying yeah you know what I mean in Bubble Bobble it's kind of the same thing where you go two bubbles and you kind of bounce on your bubbles you know I thought that all similar kind of thing guys messing me up oh he headless I was thought that was cool and you can move around without a head for a bit yeah like you shoot down here with the there you go Henri's Hank I love when you can run that's when it gets really awesome that one simply the night to the coffin basically plague and that would be another good one to go through and like that works I guess yeah that would be um played that I literally have not played that in college at all and now it's on like different consoles yes I get it oh you're killing the lights yeah until all the way you killing the light is that what they are today Julie yeah I keep getting darker don't kill them all I don't think I knew that actually and don't do it wow it's like the Firefly yeah a butterfly as well I I don't think ever knew I used to just play a dark and what I just thought that was like the idea but it was dark in Wow I have a Metroid versus doom Metroid versus doom yeah I don't know I just blow guys came up with that I don't know where yeah because it's both like they're on a planet and they got legend spacesuits you know when you first played this you have to wrote that oh nevermind I was going to be a running and Mike I mean later on when you can do the speed boost I think you can just run through that first time I played Metroid on NES I thought that Metroid was the name of the character that's kind of like people playing Zelda and thinking Lincoln yeah it's the same as elbows like it was shocking to me I was a kid to find out that it wasn't it was a you know Samsung's a female because with the armor yes a really cool that actually legitimately I didn't know that until I saw it in the game like nobody ruins that I got actually experience that without it being ruined yeah yeah so because I feel like today there's like there's no way you could not have that ruined for you today oh yeah well now now you know it was kind of like a twist but then it's also like a washer assume it was a guy really liked it right you know but I thought that was a cool moment and I thought that was a cool moment yeah I mean I also you know I'm old enough to have seen Empire Strikes Back and saw it and didn't know yeah and that's such a great moment but like kind of not anymore because now it's kind of done it's still cool when you watch it you imagine how it is but see it's just that was too long ago for me to remember really I do remember I didn't see that in the theater but I saw it on on TV and maybe I'm who rented it or something and a great moment I do kind of remember that I didn't I didn't really accept the idea when I was a kid I was like if you don't want Darth Vader to be Luke's father yeah it just seems common well y'see his father like that's the bad guy right it's like you could it's like to complicate for as a kids that like really that's why it's so mind-blowing and it's like why would your daughter it like how could anything go wrong with your own father but it's like you know yeah it's mind-blowing yeah oh here we go so you're going to shoot the middle with the feed me Seymour yet oh god I can't look at the plan Oh mom Audrey or Aubrey yeah geez all right I like the music here too oh it is it's creepy that's the part yum yum yum oh no and I gotta do the missile okay I hope I have enough fun you well if you shoot the little things you get more okay Sophia you get health and stuff but he'll come but you have to get one yet well what's good is you can keep getting health so you should be alright hopefully but I would keep shooting all that [ __ ] and then choose make missiles when you get the opportunity it gets considerably easier when you get a couple a little bit more health because once you're full yeah you know it's the game's hard right now again I hate to say this but again that's kind of like Zelda where's the game with three hearts you know and it's very difficult I mean I was referred to standards like you're saying it's like Zelda but that's exactly what it dull looking before so many other of these again will it's the first I hate to always go back and use that but it's like I feel like that's a good exam I'm example it's the one that that started all that it's set so many trends it really done there you got was good all right you better just yeah concentrate on health for a little while would really low now you know really fast now yeah that's good I would just keep it like I'm trading on the health for a little bit yeah before you jump back into medieval Jack Nicholson's first movie right be original yeah I mean you're not the Remora harder but yeah by the way that movie I love the Bill Murray um Steve Martin seen in the indie make oh yeah yeah the Dennis is basically basically Bill Murray is the Jack Nicholson part yeah in the arena that's my favorite part of the movie the best part actually have you seen the original ending of the remake one and all you need to see the original ending okay everybody dies it's like it's a bad ending it's basically like a sad ending is what I'm trying to say it's like a dark dark twisted ending we're basically the plants um first of all like his girlfriend like gets killed by the plan and like and then he he sacrifices her to feed her the plan any any like he picks her up and he carries her over to and it's like this big like scene and then I think he commits suicide or something and then like that and then the plants get um sold to some guy who like um but it turns into basically the plants are growing bigger and bigger and bigger and they're all over like the world now and they're like destroying cities and it's like some of the best miniature effects that you'll ever see did the studio think it was too dark yeah it's basically like it was just too dark when ending that's why I always say like why can't a movie ever ends on like a really grim note but I guess that's always because Studios want people leaving the theater feeling happy usually I mean I mean for that it was like it just seemed like it was such a dark ending but the ending of um kingdom of the spiders with William Shatner actually ends with it really with everybody's like dead the whole cut of the whole town is with like spider webs uh-huh yeah nothing like ruin it but I mean it's not the best movie not too many PR interested in it not even Beaufighter like oh I really want to see the original ending to kingdom of the spiders no well that's not a deleted it's just after that is the ending of the movie okay yeah yeah sorry if I ruined Kingdom display oh yeah yeah and you know what okay yeah can I'm gonna make one nitpick about this game okay look at the map real quick if you don't mind so the little dots on the map so this is the red area go ahead the red area you just use got that charged thing don't you think that should X out or should or the dot should go away after you get it that's a good point yeah I feel like as long as it's pink or red or whatever it is like but unless you've been there been there but what if you were there and didn't forgot to grab it or something like that you know I'm does that because I'm not sure if that happens or not well you just you just got that item and if you later well that it is but it's pink I'm not sure like what you're saying like I'm not sure if you can make it think without getting it because I think if you get into that square you get the item like and then interest and I think it'll be really hard to miss it like you would have to deliberately see the item and walk away from it or I could be wrong like maybe I think the pink is when you go to that area like it uncovers it yeah let's keep that in mind and we'll we can find out we'll say hey I need to probably just like matter I guess oh this is where you want to shoot down like those guys you can't kill but when you have to freeze and other weapons I think you can kill you can elite freeze them yeah I'll go up here and more up we don't have the I think we need the other bomb maybe to get through there there's some way to get through there oh no wait I know oh you fall down no no no I know what a drop down and go go back to the left okay and go all the way back to the where the door is and then shoot up okay no no oh I saw yeah alright cool but I don't know if we can do without the high jump okay I think yeah you need a hydrogen of okay yeah um but there's a kill that thank you can actually can I actually try for one second here I want to try something I don't know if this is going to work perfectly to do it but oh yeah okay there's not the room there but so there's there's a wall jump that you can do if you if you if you can't do it there cuz the walls there but I was going to try the wall jumping like like that and then like oh oh like that ice alright cool so this but like really hard to I don't know if we can make it all the way you still need to like it's really hard to wall to wall drown but let's see if we even have the ability to oh how about this then goal they [ __ ] you over what can that be done then I don't know I'm going to try one more time again it's so hard to wall jump down surprised I could even I mean this is like unnecessary too by the way there's like you can come back here later and it's like a lot easier but yeah there we go okay so let's see if I can roll over this really quickly yeah how about that excuse to Peter fools yeah now you know why you called me over today oh yeah yeah I just pissed pay my dues huh yeah what's the item going to be we're going to get e that's all yeah there we go now we're in that place earlier that we can go back there yeah so you go in the norfair for purchase of that pretty much just just the boots huh yeah I mean there might be we can check around oh I think they know and they're showing you can jump higher Oh kill this guy though because you probably won't be able to get out without telling everybody in the room yeah like Zelda yeah I'm right there mom that's a lot of bombs you're serious another go back go back go back oh yeah in there in the middle try to bomb in the middle because I think there's we can't do it I think if when you have a super bomb I think that open or something I'm sure there's something in there pretty I'm pretty sure but yeah here comes grade yeah I love that you've got like two eyeballs on top of if you like it so yeah shoot him and then he opens mouth and he ever the yeah like that looks good it was super bomb the super missiles take more energy it would hurt them more if you can get them so the little things floating around if you shoot those that tell you that you'll get like sometimes drop sleep a little light and stuff sometimes yeah yeah good it does who say there but you know don't ya oh nice see he doesn't take them any hits oh god yeah t-that's a super missile their life is long yeah work alright oh yeah the arming area yeah that's where your farm this is the best farm area they've made that specifically to do this top ten farming zones yeah but there's also areas where you can just there's also areas where you can just like show up like your missiles and everything so it's kind of like almost like the equivalent yeah and like I see horses with feet I was just a layer look like sea horses yeah Oh is there oh no I can't do this yet I'm pretty sure this is like I have to come back here later okay well I guess yeah it's like you come here and then you can't get any further when you get up here and here I think there's the yeah we need the rolling beam was the same room I get it yeah but oh you can hop across though yeah but I'm going to need the the grappling hook are you are you give it a try alright I'm like when I get over here I'm going to what okay that was a glitch a second problem the second Super Metroid I've ever seen you know that that can happen sometimes it's extremely rare well I we got it on camera yeah my dad one time I remember when I was a kid he was playing he played Super Mario Bros for just a bit and he went to jump on a platform and he I swear Mario went right through it and he was like what the hell so I can make it I can make it here which is fine but beyond this hello I'll get it beyond that though I'll get that missile but beyond that after that to get across that you need the grappling hook it's like that jump in Ninja Turtles and made your head on the ceiling yeah the guy wait for it to get low yeah there you go this will go away for be able of that there we go so yeah you'll see what I mean right here it's going to have that overhead eye stuff above so now I'm going to go back to the last basic because we okay so this bat part in it yeah so I wonder if I could actually in that otherwise easier just to do this it's cool to see how all these different areas of this planet connect this is a same spot right don't know yeah good so they make you come on really Oh to exit the room yeah oh gee well that sucks you think you just like jump off and on the plateau Wow third thing that's luck on what this again it's all about the secrets it's on finding like every room you going you got a bomb every wall yes that's a part of who and I cannot yeah part of what super metroids all about it really is little secrets so here we have everyone band I'm going to run here ya go Sam I go Samus yeah go go go Sam this is the this is the room by the way in that video we did the team in C tournament but yeah I remember that yeah are that where you made me watch that [ __ ] tape yeah I actually sat on says Sam's room and watched it while you were upstairs so we actually did it for real to do we did Michelangelo Michelangelo isn't Michael Angela thank you alright so this is the high speed boost most fun parts to the game right here so all right jealous I get to good yeah here it is oh yeah Oh awesome oh I think we're gonna bomb oh right don't we ponder or am I crazy umm I mean why would you bomb why would I get out because this oh why would I not go there so that do are you gonna come back out of them uh I think I'm gonna call cool well I think I'm gonna grab I see alright oh I think my ice ice baby banana ass baby doo-doo-doo-doo-doo-doo-doo I like that's where we went when we got into the [ __ ] allies of course yeah and then boom ice come up by the way I love that sense it's great is it rare erosion yeah it says that's awesome here we go do it quickly Stefan there we go there we go and then there's this having the ice beam is so good it is I wish I wish I had an ice beam in real life yeah it's prettiest things in the air and you can jump on so cool so good whole high scream is so cool it's cool oh here we go finally ready ready oh yes we want to do is been waiting for that like four hours it's freezing spray freeze those turns up its disgusting actually frozen up like like put a turd in the freezer you don't want that oh and actually right here this is where we're going to come back and use that bomb was a lot of space to do yeah but that's one places and now we can get higher up because now we have the jump mm-hmm so now we can go up like that we had before the only thing I was stopping us was that area where you need to freeze this is exactly what tough why we needed ice ice baby yeah yes all right I got it to the house mom now that that just opened up so many areas in the game all right whoa check this out I'm going to show you something not that you haven't liked beats this whole position or but um so right here you do I'm pretty sure it's Lee you do the regular bomb for so long and then it shows you the best there and then we do this bomb which blows up all this [ __ ] but where we're going if I can get over here is right here and we can drop down and then I remember that actually yes is that basically more of it an upgrade yeah yeah I hate this [ __ ] room it's like dangerous I know of course this is what I was worried about it's a really dangerous oh I can't get out kick it out oh [ __ ] [ __ ] [ __ ] I just what I didn't want oh I hate it I hate it I hate it I hate this wrong who is that it's always me some girl curly think we're in it now right yeah so you're not here see I know I know my super metroids I'll say I don't I remember one time in class mr. Xu's knows the teacher said something about the criteria of like the class assignment Oh what's the criteria and I was like oh that's a super metric you think about the criterion collection No that's funny did anybody like get it I don't remember either all right can you ready yeah awesome boom yeah this should be depart we were looking for this is the false light all right can you save it so that's good yeah this is all right [ __ ] this is a good part yep so we're backing them up back up [ __ ] No and a little tip if you run out of I mean this guy shoots out a lot of items and stuff but if you run out of missiles on this guy you can just use char shop - oh yeah it's not alright so I think I might need to do that so I used to always have to use charge shout out because it really you don't need that many shot it's just it's like one of the time just to get them back a bit while there is all right that's not the end now let's watch his face melt it's so cool but now we go actually ready vessel right there partial face left poor guy feel that one but I guess I did filmed in that and you think it's over go left no I know it's just still there yeah oh yes I was worried that you can miss it and then he's back to anything yeah eh it fakes yeah let's all wait we got a fight a morning uh that's it blow up all this and then I can run and hopefully can't get hurt on this and then we're going to go like this and then we're gonna do it like yeah boom mm-hmm we're gonna do I was like that too that you get open the booth so much fun and then oh yeah do we need them Howie oh wait now it's up there oh yeah so much fun look at that I like they let you use it like a bunch like Oh like right after you get it thanks dad were here unless you [ __ ] it up like me that was up you go slow when you're in the water yeah area oh no it's so slow in the water - yeah I was just not liable demonstrating that that would be bad yeah GRA oh [ __ ] I'm so special don't they say that that would be bad like when they repel when you put the beams the other don't cross the streams yeah that would be bad oh I got it off of the beaten I wonder it was marking words wisdom God word the wisdom he got words of wisdom is there anybody uh can you do it at ghostbusters impression likes like one of the ghostbusters are they impressionable pride Bill Murray I mean it was totally I mean but you've one of those ghostbusters Lee actually over by the way on this use the green yeah oops I'm a little early I mean maybe Bill Murray if I try it out a bit yeah I can't do it bill Mario so I didn't know if you guys but what's what which mom oh you know what from here hang on a second okay I'm here we can grapple beam across so and we can get that Oh there yeah now I can get over here and [Music] more what's in here oh it's another upgrade boom yeah we get a lot of power bomb I just want to get to a safe spot yeah we won't get to a good in any good spot to spot where we feel so a spot okay yeah I'd say like within the next 10 minutes or movie yeah good good otherwise to get to the next boss and a really long time yeah actually this is a fair spot right here so I'm so this is a safe spot right here guys that would say next time pick up next time yeah it seems like a good spot to stop because this is a long game yeah and this by the time we get to the next boss probably like a lot two more to go through can't wait to do it I'm really enjoying this but times run out and we will revisit it sometime soon

I remember they did one these for Metroid 2 and they whined and complained the whole time about how hard it was even while using the Nintendo Power as a guide.
