Castlevania II: Simon's Quest (NES) James & Mike Mondays

yeah we're doing this so I know that this game we've done this to death the the nerd reviewed this twice but doing it in this format as just a casual playthrough we haven't done and also recently you've posted some playthroughs where you beat Castlevania 1 and Castlevania 3 I did some live streams yeah yeah and I think it's only appropriate then that you beat the second game too when I played Zelda 2 you helped me through that game back then when they would make sequels the games they wouldn't want to repeat the same game again so they would be like oh well if we're making another we got to make it different so zelda 2 very different from zelda 1 Castlevania 2 very different from first Castlevania so but now I'm thinkin maybe I like return the favor maybe now I help you through Castlevania 2 okay because I'm cuz this one you've always told me that you're not as familiar with and as the other ones so this game I don't think I owned it as a kid I had the original game and I played it all the time which very hard game and didn't beat it until a long time later then this game I would play back back when I was a kid and I didn't really know what to do was very cryptic obviously we know all those reasons wives you've all seen the nerd video but for those reasons I would I would try I would try this game and I like the music and I like the graphics and stuff but I couldn't make it very far and for whatever reason this game I didn't like try to like look into ten to power and figure out how to beat it I just was like eh because I had the option to go back and play the other game so I just would go back and I play Castlevania one instead and I played that over and over and over so yeah I actually never made it through this game and I was surprised what the first time I saw your original first nerd video he showed that to me I was like wow I didn't know all that stuff about the game so it's really interesting to me but yeah to this day I've never beaten this game so this will be cool to do oh cool yeah and along the way we'll even discover like a little bit more things that I didn't men in the other video so there might might be a little bit more things to nitpick with the game sure so we're gonna have fun with it okay is this the actual cartridge from the first video do you have any idea I'm pretty sure it is because it's probably also the same one that I owned as a kid because this was the first game I ever bought with my own money like the first game I ever walked into Toys R Us and I can still remember seeing it like hanging on the wall and you know bring it home in that fresh case with the little you know the the hanger thing on the top you know and for that reason this is one of the most nostalgic games for me even though it's terribly flawed but still it's like a game that I have a lot of fondness for so you know it's really weird if you think about it that object that game a physical object is responsible for us sitting here today it's responsible for like the last like 10 years or 15 years of your life you said the other day it's the game that the channel was built on yeah well specifically though that physical cartridge right there yeah it's the same magic pretty sure you didn't own that game you wouldn't have made that video no I mean it maybe it would have been a different game I don't know well yeah but no no game would would have given you the same material as that no I mean it's definitely like it's it's it's a unique game it definitely has its own problems and its own merits as well alright so let's let's do some I'm gonna do a legit no passwords nothing like that that's like yeah all right so all right so you got me through first thing I'm gonna do is get a white I mean she even tells you actually they get a white crystal so that's the first thing you do okay first thing to do in this town is buy oh what a crystal alright well they tell you somebody tells you to scream in front of the church to get your health back but it's like they don't what happened with this game was that all the dialogue was translated very badly so when they translated it to English a lot of words just got substituted like it actually does tell you somewhere in there about the red crystal and Anil by the wall but they say wait for a wind or something right but they translated wind to soul or something so it doesn't make any sense and oh you know you should get the holy water - so do we have the money yet oh good okay okay you could push start to see how much money because yeah money's hearts so that's good we got we got the holy water but we just need to get the so I see if he does he give you a white crystal okay so we need we need fifty but we don't have anything so I would go into the woods okay and just like farm for heart right that it takes a while to get hearts in this game that's one thing that really does suck because if you die you lose them all too so that's one of the things that sucks the most you know it's really weird that you know this being the first nerd video that I never took the time to do this before you wouldn't you would think by now like I would have done this but I just never oh you mean you know what actually that's not at one point I did actually like a few like around because you started doing these videos in 2000 well for but like 2006 online yeah and then I think it found like 2009-2010 I actually did like mess around with this game but mm-hmm I think I want to say I have made it about halfway through this game before but I just I just gave up because I was like whatever it was before live-streaming uh-huh I thought I was trying I was just trying it on my own and like I will say one good thing about live streaming is having a crowd there in front of you makes you try like harder puts a little pressure on it puts a little pressure on you so you don't want to quit mm-hmm and I would do more of those too but the only thing is like I'm too busy working on the nerd episode so it was like okay should I take like a couple hours do a livestream where should I take a couple hours work on videos yeah there's videos is the priority yeah oh and every time when it changes day to night the enemies get stronger so the longer you go the tougher the enemies get oh right I didn't know that yeah it also affects the ending and there's gonna be a little surprise at the end of this video when we get when we get there I have something to talk about I think it's one of the funniest things that I never I mean of all the things that got left out of I've liked the revisited episode and everything okay episodes it's there's something at the end that needs to be discussed it's been discussed already all over the internet but it's something that some it's worth talking about okay now this part here I want to talk about something real quick go back to the stairs yeah um because you won't make it um we'll just stop at the stairs for a second I just want about how this game has one of the most confusing Maps yeah ever because there isn't a map but you move in a linear way you move left and right but then it comes to these forking paths but whenever you do those forking paths it they tried to explain it in Nintendo power by making a map and it's actually that map I have on my wall they've tried to make sense out of it um with this overhead map that's not a map it doesn't make they never connected it with like you know paths to show you where do you go so if you actually try to follow this with the game yeah you will be confused out of your mind and also they try to connect all the different areas of the game so that you know where you're going but it's wrong like the NES game atlas [ __ ] up it's basically like all of the bad description it's very very basic nobody has ever been able to explain the the map is getting very little people online have done maps to try to explain some people have but it's just not like a very common thing like it's a very easy game to get confused I think that that's the thing that actually got me to stop playing it because I like I said I played it like a little bit far there's like a mansion early on right I got ya I got through the mansion and then after that I started to get like lost and then I was like I don't know so the mansion is is is I think to the right if it's not to the right then we're gonna go down the steps we're gonna come back if I'm wrong so basically it's one or the other it's just hard to know okay and of course the object of the game is to collect all Dracula's body parts so it's like Christopher Lee yeah it's basically taste the blood of Dracula like that's the plot you know so you go into the mansion you get the oak stake you throw it at the orb and then you get the body part so that's really ok all you have to do I've always liked the backgrounds in this game like you see like moss covered stones yeah they know I think the sprite animations like really good too cool mm-hmm and going back to what I always say it reminds me of a hammer film it really has that you know that look to it I have to do this uh you know what you can I mean I don't think that starts happening yet okay but it will I don't know basically you're gonna go up you can go up those stairs and then go to the right and those um those uh false floors will start happening actually yeah so I remember that there like it here yeah so once you get up to this next level it doesn't happen here that's um I don't think so yeah I'm gonna trust ya okay I'm hopin now just in case okay yeah little bluh blah now here it starts happening so start yeah but I remember yeah yeah yeah so I have to get to that one there we go yeah then that could be like they could be anywhere now and agreat yeah does that suck now your oak stake is that guy down there so that's what you want to go don't ya do they do this like throughout the whole game where you have to do this holy water stuff pretty much oh my god welcome to Simon's quest and for anyone you know listen and I know this may sound like a lot of added information like I'm just gonna constantly be guiding you but that's the only way to get through this game because it's like there's no way to just figure this out on your own and I hear ya yes invest in oak stake all right all right Oh if you wanted there's a book to the left of me it doesn't do anything but you can break the blocks oh I want the book all right Oh see we didn't get to read it I had a fight there you go perfect example you can cancel out um one of those things that gives you like a like a tip but what a horrible night to have a curse that you have to read I I was getting so pissed off and superman 64 cuz the same exact thing happens but on that with the n64 controller if you hit L I found out it brings up the last message oh it does imagine if this you could bring up that nestled in that people cuz I don't even know what that said yeah I don't know either it's probably in the the first so where am I supposed to go um go down I think okay basically if you want to get over to the right okay where all those dead guys are used to that noise it's gonna be the whole video we gotta go down one level oh there's a book wait wait now I gotta get the book came about that I wonder if it disappears a flame lien flickers inside the Ring of Fire the Ring of Fire yeah Johnny Cash yeah so all you got to do now is just throw an oak stake at that orb and don't miss all right oh if I miss it what is it like game over and then you lose the oak stake and then you gotta like you gotta get it all over its ice like this is the orcs a gray yeah what I hit up and day yeah would you miss okay well I mean if you and if you face the other way or something like I've done it before okay and you just gotta buy it again he now pros possessed Dracula's rip and no boss by the way nothing like that oh there's no boss no I mean they didn't have time that's right doesn't it look like there'd be a boss yeah so now I just leave it just leave okay how you supposed to know you would think that like yeah you would think fight the boss then you get that huh it's bad yeah I mean this game is kind of bad it is kind of bad there's good things or bad things to it yeah it is it's basically just like it didn't get like finished properly like that's what it seems is there an easy way out should I go like well the only way out is just like the way you came basically so I mean I mean if you find a shortcut then yeah I mean that that's good oh god it's like Jekyll and Hyde with the spiders yeah actually these are better spiders you know like how they're throwing their entire webs I'm fine with that I think like a match of spider-man was just shooting out like just a big the web he does that though like he has that ability they're like oh you're right yeah balls you like trap somebody a door they make like a trampoline or like a yeah like a catch net yeah so what are you talking about yeah that's right yeah so the this you just want to [ __ ] [ __ ] yeah I just want to get down there when you can they just keep coming they do Wow yeah it's pretty much you guys just get on that Wow it doesn't that suck oh my god oh look at that situation not as bad as that no not at all wow there you go oh that's it yeah I thought that was those fire from the holy water yeah the sacred flame that doesn't look like that it's like the same animation in this game it doesn't actually have it but in in the other Castlevania game I think there's a little like fire thing yeah it's misleading there's two things to do in here I'm gonna buy some garlic and we're gonna check exchange the white crystal for a blue crystal okay how would you ever know how would you ever know because Nintendo Power that's out is the one nine hundred numbers [ __ ] because like name it it's like we don't own that yeah exactly it's like that's look the big problem with it so that guy's gonna exchange the crystal for you can you only go in the doors at night alright during the day exactly I think like during the night they're just afraid that you're a monster so because I tried to enter the doors before and then what yeah you can't at night okay I think everybody it's basically like if it were linked you would just break into their home but in this game he's polite so he doesn't know you're link is not polite at all he doesn't care they're sleeping he go and not only does he break into people's houses but then he breaks stuff yeah break stuff measure there's already broken your ass you start breaking stuff like yeah he's supposed to be the hero of time yeah big hero is like breaking everything Laurel is good we should where's Hardy all right so Laurel and holy water yeah um oh god how do I get out of here oh yeah doesn't that's okay it's just weird like why do they come back yeah broke floor that I just came back exactly I probably talked about this in other videos but there was a series of tapes here called a secret video game tricks codes and strategies and I rented this from the video store and it told you a password for Castlevania 2 which gives you all the items so once you have all the items eg you well yeah but you still have to get to Dracula you still have to start beginning which is yard so what I did as a kid was I did two things I did one where I got as far in the game as I could you know and then I did one where I just started with all the items and walked all the way yeah it will then walk to Dracul and be tracked okay so I beat Dracula but with a password so I still had to go through the game but I started with all the items okay the first time I did it for real was in the nerd videos and then I just followed like a walkthrough to figure it all out okay um because there's a few things there's like a few things that you would you would never know basically but anyway that's not even all there is - I think what we're going to do today I'm will talk about at the end there's something that depends on how many nights and days have passed in the game okay which affects what happens at the end and we'll talk about that at the end the the main things that the most confusing parts of the game I think one is the red crystal with the tornado but then there's also the blue crystal with the lake then there's the garlic with the garlic in the cemetery with the ferryman ferryman and then there's the heart that you have to show the ferryman across the river and mean okay here you go like this part right here perfect timing Camp Crystal Lake select the make sure that's the crystal selected okay it's like because the cool thing you can select two items that you know you probably noticed is that the item at the top um doesn't have to blink like if you if the bottom one is blinking that's the one you're changing okay so basically like you have to I that's good like what you have to go in kneel down and there you go so I can go down yep okay and this is where I'm supposed to be going yeah would you ever figure that out and I bet I Bailey remember that for I think from your video but um oh [ __ ] yeah yeah that's those stairs had no point oh that's just incorrect then yeah I mean one thing you can say the game definitely spawns you right back up so this is Rover mansion we're gonna go in here Oh move over Rover and let Jimmy take over oh god oh my god so what happens in this mansion so in this mansion it's all about getting the next body part of Dracula well that's what it's always about isn't yeah but that's it that's pretty much there yeah you basically just get get the oak stake and then it's another oak stake bang that's what they all oh really it's not like something different every now you just get the oak stake you throw at the orb and then sometimes there's a boss sometimes okay so they did do a couple boss a cup there's a couple there's a couple bosses in the game like like if none of them had the boss then okay maybe this game just isn't about fauces right but the fact that there's like a couple means it it's like they just didn't they forgot to do the rest there's one love how they hide it's like so dark yeah this game is darker than any like game I've ever played oh really it's like darker than um the thing now darker than there we had to turn all the lights off it's a very dark game but yeah doom 64 okay now any of it like a Metal Gear those around those are always our Call of Duty and those the movie pigs that's well that's a movie not again but it's that's much darker oh by the way if you ever feel like it you got you have flames so you can use that okay it's basically it's just another West a stronger whip I guess uh no it's it's kind of like the holy water like it throws like that but it makes like a flame oh the flame I thought because I thought there's the flame whip there's the flame whip and there's this the sacred flame so everybody use the sacred flame yeah yeah yeah yeah I've seen you that's what you use the kill Dracula right yeah it's like the cheapest way to kill Dracula okay I'm totally doing it that way I don't think did we ever show is right yo for real or I don't think it is cheap because the game made it that way because it's an item that you can get in the game like it's like an item you get so why is that cheap yeah there's also a Bram mansion which I was I thought sounded like Bram Stoker yeah and then there's bran castle yeah bran castles the is the castle that Bram Stoker based the novel on mm-hmm and there's another castle which little--it fortress or whatever yeah well Castle ponary is the one that would actually be the real Castle Dracula is that what I mean there is based off and haripriya ponary Castle is the closest that would be Castle Dracula because there isn't really a Castle Dracula but he he either stayed a ponary castle or or he lived there for a certain amount of time or whatever but that's that's the one that's like up on a cliff and red they filled a bunch of stairs going up to it so that that's the one that is shittier looking place right well it's like the more like you mean it's like shittier as in like small like I mean it's like it's like more like falling apart the lab it's more Dracula it's yeah it's the Dracula but the one in the novel was written to he describes a totally he was influenced by a totally different castle right and that's the one that's near Borgo pass and everything so there's a novel castle and there's like the real Vlad tepish castle if you want to forget it to simplify it the best I can well I like both castles yeah I mean if you if you're going to Transylvania you got a um you got a go to both I guess yeah well that's my nationality mm-hmm I'll translate I'm Romain I mean it's it's it used to be there used to be this a section of it was old you know in the old days was Transylvania but I think nowadays I don't know if part of it is still officially Transylvania I believe as far as I know it's like they're still translating so part of it is still called Transylvania leave so you know a little ghosty was actually like Hungarian right yeah so lugo town of lugozshe yeah so my grandmother was Hungarian my grandfather was Romanian hmm you know mm-hmm on one side I'm German on the other side but yeah partially but then always but because of that that always made me feel like oh I should go yeah you know yeah but I should go there anyway because Dracula's castles there so whether you're Canadian or not yeah go there and see Dracula want to go to Japan because Godzilla's there well that makes sense there you go I get that because you want to see Godzilla like he's there I saw I know somebody who lives in Japan and they have him hanging off of one of the buildings or whatever this is called Velasco marsh which is Bailey Lugosi's last name they spell it different but yeah Lugosi's last name was actually a beta blush go his full name is Bale blush go what is the oh the Laurel it's the one at the bottom left that keep going is it there you got that yeah so I don't even know Q and they're going so go quick it runs out and I'll tell you if once you cross this I'm going to tell you something about the valar oh oh [ __ ] oh oh don't you they might start ah [ __ ] you have one left so you got to make it this time jump to it might help a little left that matters now but I'm actually did I think that got either yeah that got either if I didn't know ran out that quick mm-hmm or else I would have did that differently yeah actually maybe pause it for just one second because because there's a there's something that I noticed that I don't think I've mentioned this in my other videos there there's parts in the game where you can get stuck like there's this part where there's a dead end and there's a big marsh and if you go across the marsh with the Laurel and then you run out you'll be stuck on the other side and it happened to me once and yeah it sucks anyway so this is the ferryman and what you do here is um he takes you to different paths if depending on what you show him if you show him Dracula's heart he takes you somewhere completely different but I don't think we want to do that yet okay um I think you just want to talk to him and then he'll take you he'll let's see where it takes it cuz I I forget oh sure I'll take you to a good place so I think that's what we want right now and they can knock you off this a jump jump quick jump there we go yeah if you didn't if you didn't know to jump he'd take you back oh my oh really yeah oh my god so there we go we just trade in our blue crystal for a red one and never know to do that yeah but now we have it so we I'm gonna get the money because yeah the hearts whatever yeah if you yeah because you're telling me any garlic I looks like I don't want to not have what you're telling me even if it's like not a hundred percent necessary yeah I should probably have it right so there there is a website it is a bisque whit dot I ki dot Fi and it has this amazing translation of every version of this game and it shows you how all these weird pieces of dialogue got messed up through translation okay and the the Deathstar one was the one i found the most interesting she says don't look into the death star or you will die like what could that mean really like the death star don't look into the death star or there's a morning star I must be like don't look at Dracula read I don't know yeah what does apparently on the on the site they say that um if the star of death is shining in the sky above two warriors engaged in a battle of destiny one of those two men shall die the English version translate it to literally it just said you know Death Star and this person offers a explanation says um if you witness four deaths you are likely to be the next four is a number associated with death and superstition in Japan and China however because of the ambiguous Ness in the Japanese text the sentence can be translated in a number of different ways it's basically like a proverb that got really badly translated okay there's many ways it could be interpreted it's it's strange that's that is strange like there's no end to how fascinating this game is yeah I like that they try to put like all that kind of like mythology and then I'm like that's kind of cool Oh since this is sort of like Castlevania to re revisited or whatever it is it's sort of like a chance for me to say anything else about the game I ever want to do and another nitpick is that there's too many mansions that begin with the letter B there's Bram Berkeley and boldly like you think that they could have you know changed it up a little more I think it'll be other Castle mate minigames because they're more linear and they don't you know it doesn't stop you to do stuff like this it may it makes the other times more exciting mmm simply the night is when it started to become completely nonlinear when it became Metroid style right but you're talking about Castlevania 1 & 3 like those yeah don't need threes got that the four can pass but that's nothing like this you know what I never liked the only thing about Castlevania 3 I wish that you can keep all the characters I always wished yeah I like Bucky O'Hare hmm there we got a Morningstar so does it automatically give it to me like I'm using it now yeah so you're gonna drop the garlic here yeah you're gonna drop the garlic in the cemetery right here just drop it oh yeah you like select it which one even is a bottom yeah I'm right yeah okay okay up and date there you go now now go talk to mrs. green guy he appeared cuz you got the Garter you dropped the garlic so here okay I'll give you a silk bag all right so now we got the silk bag so go right again okay how would you ever know that garlic in that specific spot yeah I mean okay like I remember your video where you're like kneel down and the tornado cuz I didn't know about that way I think I mentioned that in the video too yeah that's why I couldn't beat this as a kid I mean yeah I had the game atlas I had all that but there's a tip that says the fairy man loves garlic and it's wrong it's the heart that you show him not the garlic the garlic the garlic summons a guy in a cemetery who looks like the ferryman but that's not the ferry so the person like who made it like didn't know the difference well the translations and everything got so screwed up when they did this so what we're gonna do now we're gonna cross the river again and we're gonna talk to the ferryman one more time but this time we're gonna show them Dracula's heart so he's gonna take us somewhere different should I just like the I first earn a few lives Oklahoma yeah it doesn't matter right now just just keep going as far as you can look at that powerful my whip is now alright yeah so just just talk to him now I'm not sure if maybe we could have showed him the heart there but it doesn't matter let's just what we'll cross the river and then then just like leave the screen and yeah good thinking oh yeah so like basically just come back oh yeah I think he's back already oh yeah so pick pick pick the heart all right yeah it's the second bat yeah okay let me show you the way now he's taking me son wrong okay why doesn't he stop his next it's oh wow that's nice that's pretty cool like the third one of those I've gotten I don't know what cost is that maybe oh it might be like points or something or that's it so by the way this is definitely the furthest I've ever been like once we got to the point with like the garlic or no even before that oh no I was saying earlier with the with the laurels like the first time we did the laurels that was as far as I had I'd never done that before okay that's what you had a boss but guess what guess what DRD let me tell you how to beat him and what I would do mmm-hmm I would I would do I would do that or weather or you probably or you could just walk under them and not fight them yeah you could just walk under him oh really good try it okay I can't exactly it's like oh you know actually we get the oak stake first okay just just in case he kills you I got least you can get the ball maybe you now pros s Dracula's eyeball yeah yeah got it the eyeball I guessed it I'm gonna I'm definitely gonna try leek okay yeah you should yeah like why not hey I'm even working on them oh yeah oh okay it was worth it you now possess this once cried golden olden night there we go the golden s laughs that wasn't I gotten that yeah there you go so it's worth it but it is funny how you don't have to kill them it's basically like the dagger but it's like way stronger yeah it's awesome yeah yeah I hope it doesn't run out yeah I don't think so I think what do I kill Dracula with that you can I mean I'm sure I'm sure you can kill yeah I'm gonna just in case it doesn't run out unless it's like save it okay it doesn't seem like it does but hmm I'm totally let me kill dragged you out with the golden night that's my goal okay because it'll be something different yeah exactly because you know you know when I did that flame thing in the in the first video yeah that was what the guy I I think I think that's what the guy did in the top secret VHS tape okay that's why I did it that way I was kind of just imitating what I saw right on makes sense yeah if this scene okay yeah we haven't been here so go keep going left and these jumps suck I get that about it yeah you got the idea though yep this is awful wow that was a big jump mm-hmm and I guess I have to be really high up here yeah okay Oh does it start me on the block uh probably not [Music] this is hard alright platforming time [Music] it's one of those things where you get worse the longer you have to do it because it you start to get impatient okay okay [ __ ] it but it doesn't jump like you know I got rolled up yeah whoo you want to get all the items right like you want to get all the weapons the diamond is pretty cool too okay hmm why does sometimes he jumps like really high and other times he doesn't like that Oh willing would like that time he didn't jump very high sometimes it looks like you know what the color of the splash is actually the color of the block so it looks like he's splashing into the block this is the hardest part of the game yeah probably this part is harder than Dracula which it shouldn't be you know yeah oh maybe he's evolving at a different thing because maybe it's like let me see something it's going down compared to if it's then there's that I hate this box oh boy all right yes that kills me I don't think it will but just I can't drop me sit down okay boy oh man Jesus and we're gonna have one drops drop garlic okay the mummy oh it's like seagulls yeah vultures talk sitting on my head and what is this for a diamond diamond yeah diamond is bet you can was it them you just try it uh it's it's best when you're in like a closed corridor like if you're inside like a little tunnel right do it because it bounces all over and it kills everything yeah maybe I'll kill him track it with the diamond that when I hit you on yeah watch me make it back like the first time I won't [Music] alright alright that was a way easier than you never have to do that part again in my life yeah I think there's no curse that's like that but this is the one that we got that that's matched we just did so keep going right this guy sure I'll pay ya my spell come back with a powerful weapon well I had wait what wait what [ __ ] you guys flame whip he's just I guess has to say that he's program I guess because you got it and then you talk to him again so ok look at that look at that by the way I wonder cuz now I'm just exactly like like half the time when something weird happened you can take video of it alright with my phone even when you're just trying to get video or something it comes up there you go boy well let me I'm gonna go get the thing first yeah I've never I don't think I've ever seen that thing before yeah alright so here we go what do you think it's gonna be so before I even get this though what is it so there's an orb and there's an a stake made of oak so you're yes I'll get it just in case it goes away I'm gonna quit this game who knows okay so now you process Dracula's ring okay there's an Orban there's a wooden stake what does that have to do like that just seems weird you're throwing it yeah what into an aura yeah what's an orb anyway why would you like to do that because what you get you through it well of course you throw a wouldn't oak stick into an orb you get Dracula's heart okay it doesn't get a body part I mean maybe like because it's kind of like a wooden stake like you put the stake through Dracula's heart but you don't even do it you'd think the oak stake would be to kill Dracula at the end right you wouldn't think that there's a bunch of oak stakes that you can use one time that each of them is for an orb in a mansion to get one of Dracula's body parts so you could put it into a silk bag and then spawn Dracula at the end of the game so then you can kill him again after you spawned him by the way you brought him back to life just to kill them and speak in a Dracula's ring so I guess say something about Dracula's ring so if you look at the picture of miraculous ring yeah what you're gonna see is this big huge ring from I think I can stuff well I think it was house of track oh oh cuz well if you're talking about yeah John Carradine wore her syringe and house of Frankenstein and I was a surprise sign yet and I always thought to myself well we're John Kerry and Bale ago she the same ring sizing rings yeah and by the way his name is Krauss lugozshe I guess it's like that like I'm always corrected and it's Bayla not della but most people sail out of the goo yeah Bela Lugosi uh but uh this okay so the ring the ring size apparently was the same then or maybe they just modified the ring to fit Lugosi or it's two different rings based on the same design yeah anyway but if you look up Dracula's ring like that's the one that you'll see like the one from a band costello meets right it's this huge ring that has lots of designs on it it's a cool-looking ring there's a better I think we made that confusing but just to clarify it was used first in house of Frankenstein starring John Carradine as Dracula and then probably house of Dracula as well which was also John Carradine then it was used in Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein with Dracula in it played by Bela Lugosi and he and he wore that ring yeah but if you watch the original Dracula movie from 1931 totally different right there's a totally different ring which is a black onyx ring which is not as impressive looking as a ring but it's like if you watch the movie Dracula with Bale go see like the famous version that's not like it's not the ring that you that everybody thinks yeah it's just a very plain black ring and I so anyway that was on there and yeah yeah and since you're the topic i want to mention the cape again real quick we talked about this before but like there is a cape from the first movie babe Lugosi son Bela Lugosi jr. has that cape and it went up for auction one time it didn't sell and now we don't know if he still has it or if anybody knows where Cape is currently let me know but but that's one cape then there's the Cape that he wore onstage in like the 20s he that was a different cape and that cape he wore in plan nine I guess apparently yes though and that's the Cape that forry ackerman had yeah so forry ackerman has that cape that was that stage cape and plan well he had in yeah but then there's the Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein Kate and that's the one that he was buried and there's a third cape so he was buried in if you want to call that Cape number three that's when he's burden but when I was asking before well you know the difference to the Abin Costello cape had pockets in it and I believe it had a yellow goldish liner that's the only was buried and and people classically think of if you look up pictures of Dracula you think like the the liner of the cape is like red it's not it's not in the original the original Dracula cape from 1931 that Bela Lugosi juniors has that went up for auction that's that's like the real Cape that's that Cape is still around and it has a it has a grey liner so yeah the inside of Dracula's cape is supposed to be great yeah that makes sense the movies black and white right if they but I mean if you want one that like Bailey's yeah anyway this is good we got this that we did a trivia video here I've seen screenshots in Nintendo Power like this is this is one part in the game I don't think I ever made it - as a kid but I remember seeing the screenshots and thinking that was real creepy with the blood it is pretty yeah Simon Belmont holding Dracula's decapitated head and all but I just got oh the cross nice that's our last item so oh wow we have everything now what's the cross though I guess it's another I don't know I mean I don't think it's I don't think it's a weapon it's like something must have enabled now okay maybe makes me stronger or something I don't know all right I'll get out anyway like parents complained about this cover because it was like too scary it like gave kids nightmares that's like different like with a sedative this is simon's but you know since I have this in my hand I should totally yeah this is the second issue that's the first one that I subscribed to so I this I've had this since I was a kid I'm gonna take a look real quick this is pretty cool show all the lips no you wish it look like that and the game yeah you know we got all the whips except the thorn whip that was the only one that we didn't get but that's the second strongest so it goes leather whip thorn whip chain whip Morningstar and flame with so yes it's starting to feel like more like Castlevania well now there's like more enemies I'm going through and there was an actual there was a boss to fight mm-hmm I would love to see this game remade kind of like what they did with the Reed action version were they just like they fixed it with some things but I'd like to see a full like new graphics HD yeah and I mean like a whole redesigned version of this game and I had like a good version of the yeah I mean well I mean not even just that but just update it to today's graphics just like they did it with Castlevania chronicles which was on they did I mean in that style they did it to Rondo a blood it was on called Castlevania chronicles it was on the PSP it was portable only and it was basically a redesigned Rondo of blood the same exact game except like the graphics were the backgrounds were three-dimensional it was still side-scrolling but the way they revamped the graphics I just thought that was great I'd love to see more games done that way something I wanted to mention in the instruction manual to the game when it's talking about all the different items his heart did you see what just happened I know I was I like fell in water right here really didn't exist so anyway there's you know how misleading this game is there's something I wanted to mention that confused me since day one that in the instruction manual to the game it where it tells you all about all the different body parts of Dracula and gives you a description each one under the heart it says watch out the heart attacks are like a heart attack get it the heart attacks literally where did it buy that an instruction manual a guide where where does the heart attack in the game like like put on the heart and see if it attacks you it's probably joke it's it a joke you know like that's a joke it's an instruction it's supposed to be giving you instructions knowing you this is gonna give you the misleading information apparently the part when you're going over the water you're going over the bridge the instruction manual calls it the bridge over the river die like bridges over the river kwai bridge over the river die Joe it's jokey it's a jokey manual after Castlevania I warned you not to return ah I'm glad we stumbled upon that because that was something I forgot about I wish I mention it is Castlevania yeah it breaks the fourth wall and there's also something creepy about it too like you know I warned you not to return that's like in Star Trek first contact when they when the guy says Star Trek he's like so you guys are like astronauts on some sort of a Star Trek yeah it only took them like two series and then like eight movies to have somebody actually say Star Trek I saw in the theater everybody burst out laughing I well that was intentional I'm sure yeah it was great [Music] I've seen the first in their video so many times I almost feel like that's like AVGN music now I was feel like getting knocked back into the water is just like annoying it's a tradition like it's kind of like the wave is that's that's if that's the first shot I think of when I think of AVGN is like it's Simon Belmont getting knocked back yeah yeah oh yeah no you can you can read it at night okay but it doesn't tell you the town you need to talk and laugh for the wicked ditch the wicked I always liked that name to make an Wicked Witch yeah the wicked witch the wicked ditch right to go north and then they're like right to go to go north yeah those look like the flying monkeys they do yeah see that's why maybe I was thinking uh-huh look at they are [ __ ] flying monkeys come on wicked witch yeah the wicked ditch with the flying monkeys I didn't make that connection that is it is with your robot castlevania wicked ditch flying monkeys there you go there's something you'd probably never thought I never I never made a Wizard of Oz the tornado that takes you away somewhere else maybe this is a Wizard of Oz game it is it's sort of it's very similar right now cuz me looking at this map in NES Atlas and trying to transpose that to what's going on the game it makes it so that's in certain places to move left on the map you have to move right in the game it's a lot like fry the 13th where when you're like on a certain point in this loop you're actually walking in the opposite direction so that's why I'm confused right now and right now I think I'm really sorry but I think we'll go in the wrong way but we just have to confirm it at this point like okay we need to get to something that I can match on the map right and look at this look at look at that thing right there like this thing right here where I'm saying doesn't that look like a chipmunk face yeah oh my god it does okay oh oh look at that you actually can't pass those this is the first gravestones I've seen oh yeah they're like actually there yeah I love how all the gravestones are all the cemeteries are different in this game alright now it's getting creepy yeah this Masari at night mm-hmm the cemetery today we're headed to Dracula's castle yeah what else do you want Halloween it's Halloween I say in the video but where are the enemies there's just nothing yeah there's nothing in here it's kind of like it's kind of like breath of the wild when you go it's pretty much like he already killed them all because this is Castlevania 2 so it's like they're dead he's just returning to the same spot right that's so stupid yeah umm what they're really missing is the stairwell with the the crescent moon that's every Castlevania yeah yeah yeah yeah well they're missing a lot of things yeah so uh you want to say idea how do you want to kill Dracula hmm stole the gold knife have you ever done over the gold night I don't think so want to try it alright is this him he's kind of like any second yeah there's all the bag all the body bags so if I were to walk out would like it would that be bad I don't know I wouldn't want to risk it at all this but like confession there we go and there you go yeah exactly fight he's not getting visible now that doesn't look like Dracula oh no it looks like the Grim Reaper it's so easy it's so [ __ ] easy okay now it's alright pay attention to those hey that was it that was it the battle has consummated great work yeah now lost the pea now peace and serenity have been restored to Transylvania and the people are free of Dracula and it goes off like an hour curse Dracula's curse yeah next game forever and you Simon Belmont will always be remembered for your bravery and courage this is the bad ending bad ending is if it takes you 15 days or more to repeat it and then the normal ending is if it takes you eight to 14 days okay and then the good ending is seven days or less okay so this is this is the bad ending now so this is like a speedrunners game um if you were to do it like quicker yes it's a child I mean obviously you're supposed if you do it faster you get the better ending which would make sense now the the background of this one it was in black and white right this is the dreariest looking of all the because the other ones are in color and Simon Belmonts they're at the grave now which I've seen you got yeah now this one it is it is it looks like the the baddest ending the worst ending so but did you notice something about like would you think of the text what again now that it's off screen yeah it was pretty much like you know you beat Dracula you restored peace or it sounds like a good ending right it sounded fine sounded totally fine it's like everything is you know happy right except for the background but everything is is happy okay so I'm gonna show Mike the other two endings right now we're just looking them up but um so that the bad ending we just saw you know happy text but dreary image here's what the the normal ending works so if you get the gif you beat the game the normal way which I yeah sure so already it looks up much happier right although the confrontation between Simon and Dracula Simon couldn't survive his fatal wounds Transylvania's only hope is a young man who will triumph over evil and rid the city of Dracula's curse so basically in the normal ending Simon dies right it sounds like he's still he's still present at him yeah yeah he's dead but there he is kneeling in front of Dracula's grave um let me double check that it says all the conversation between Simon and Dracula oh well it's not even clear if Dracula was killed also well that's right it was grave that's his well it's also saying Simon is dead it's it's Simon's there so it says their battle has ended Simon is dead and now the the fate rests in someone else's hands so that so now it sounds like okay it almost sounds like they're setting up the next game it actually does sound like Dracula's still alive because they're saying now we need hope and someone else a young man right two feet right now here's the good ending okay oh this with the red sky now so now we have like a red sky for the good ending the encounter with Dracula is terminated I mean kind of a Dracula is terminated and a good way of saying it's over right Simon Belmont has put an end to the eternal darkness in Transylvania his blood and sweat have penetrated the earth well induce magic and happiness why does it go here for those who walk on this land huh oh that's not it watch what happens okay Oh as hand comes up so Dracula's still alive okay so what there's the one that we we got from going through the game was the bad ending with the gray sky which is just like kind of like a knot whatever it says like happiness and whatever cuz Dracula's dead and it's a grey sky and that's that then the next one's a color one with a blue sky thank and it's what did that one say well that one said Simon dies and then it's it's lies in somebody else's hands that once that Simon dies but Simon's on the screen yeah kneeling in front of the Dracula's tombstone so Simon is alive in the picture but apparently he's dead maybe they're saying he dies like later like he has a wound but then like I don't know and then the next one what was that but but Dracula's dead it shows Dracula's great Dracula [ __ ] but there they seem to be saying that they don't say specifically but it seems like Dracula is alive and so so that one is a little bit better apparently but if Dracula is alive how is it better it's not and Simon dies Dracula's dead Simon dies right but I'm saying like if we did better in the game we would have gotten that ending right oh yeah yeah you would have gone so it seems like we're getting a worse ending yeah so okay and then the other ending Dracula comes back alive like he comes out of the Red Robin um well I mean this is Ike maybe maybe it's this maybe it's we're horror fans right yeah and maybe we want the bad stuff to happen so it's it's a better ending because the worst thing happened didn't you didn't you ever want to watch a horror movie where Dracula League wins and likes takes over the whole like you rationalize yeah but but to cut to the chase yeah they [ __ ] up the endings they switched them so yeah you get the the worst ending if you played better yeah yeah it they messed it up Wow and the thing is if you were to piece it together see nobody knows this for sure like nobody is it's just one they swap them they obviously swap them but there's no confirmation that that's actually what happened like you said it's like kind of up for opinion but everybody who's talked about these endings has been like well that's a little strange so and and and one more thing so then the other end English we didn't talk about with the with the red sky yeah what are they talking about magic like what is that about that means that Dracula's definitely alive Dracula's well in the image the thing is the images and the text are different it's like not only did they swap the endings they swapped what you see with what it reads you know what I mean yeah so when you see the gray background that must have been meant when Simon when Simon dies the gray one is in the right spot the one with the dreary gray thing that that works right there just the image not talking about the text the second one should be the red sky one where Dracula's hand comes out of the gravestone and then the third one will be the blue ones because that would be the best ending would to have a blue sky yeah so there you go that would that would all work now as far as the text goes the first the the bad ending the text is completely wrong that should be the one where it says Simon dies and then someone else needs to fight Dracula it still doesn't explain why there's a tombstone in all three of them but then for the the the normal one it's basically this the text that says that Simon's put an end to the eternal darkness it's basically the same thing like he's he's uh his blood and sweat has penetrated the earth and will induce magic and happiness then the last one the the best ending that should be the text from the first ending it should say you know happiness they [ __ ] it all up and just when you thought there's nothing more to talk about this game I don't know how I left that out before or at it I think it was too confusing I think I just didn't want to deal with it they're like what the hell I talked so much about that game my time yeah it's like oh my god then there's this whole like confusion with the endings but wow what a mess yeah yeah obviously we talked so much about this game but you know it was sort of in a way a good experience to go through this game I'm glad I did it so this year I'd beaten Castlevania 1 now beaten Castle 82 and I beat Castlevania 3 Dracula's curse I did the North American version and I did the Japanese version so I've done a lot of Castlevania this year and you and I have beaten the Super Nintendo game before so I'm great I could do that one any time so I guess in a way I feel completed to have done it all but at the same time it's kind of like this game is really a mess um and it's a spectacular mess it's a hilariously specular mess and so in that way it's funny it kind of like because you know I keep going back to this but I've been playing Superman 64 all week I'm kind of glad I did it now but I don't think I'd ever go back to playing that game again this one I actually would consider going back to because like maybe I could get through it faster or certain things but I have to say like overall I'd much rather play like I still now that I've like done it I'd much rather play like the Castlevania one or three like like definitely but there's a lot of great things about the game I really more than anything else the the music definitely but the atmosphere of the ethics like the graveyards and the the mountains and all that like you were saying that's the thing that I always take away from this game when I bruh I think about this game I think of the imagery and uh you know from it so they got some things really really done really really well in this but it's a shame that it's so convoluted in such a mess because this could have been a great game had they not screwed it up so badly yeah yeah and still it's like it's one of those things works like I just have a fondness for like it is what it is like it's just like if it didn't have all these flaws we wouldn't be talking about it as much today yeah it's really just like I'm glad it is the way it is in a way you know yeah
