okay good morning good morning good morning welcome to worship here at the new psalmist baptist church we are just a few minutes away from jumping right into the worship service it's the first sunday in september and god has kept us through eight months and we're excited about what god is going to do today in worship so as you're coming into the virtual sanctuary you know how we do hear new psalmist we need you to comment right there in the chat box let us know where you're watching from let us know your name we want to connect with you throughout the service we want you to share this things i'm excited for what god's going gonna do in worship i'm looking forward to hearing a word from god today i know our pastor bishop walter scott thomas senior has a powerful message that's gonna be a blessing to each and every one of us and if you're like me you can't wait to hear what god's gonna say through worship today and god's doing amazing things in this season here at new psalmist last week our children went back to school and then next week we are starting our fall launch here at the church every year at new psalmist we are blessed to have so many persons in groups connecting growing in christ because we are a church here at new psalmist where connections are made we connect to god connect to the world and connect to each other and starting next week we have registration open for our connection groups and our discipleship classes and bible studies discipleship is the backbone of our church here at new psalmist persons join this three-year program and they go in one way and they come out completely different ready to do what god has called them to do and i want to take a moment right now and let's hear some testimonies of some of the brothers who've been blessed through discipleship here at new psalmist to me discipleship has meant a lot to me discipleship helped me in many ways it helped me to learn to be with my brothers learn to be open learn how to communicate effectively learn to understand one another's needs and how can we help one another in certain situations it has helped me tremendously given me a foundation of god's word and the the camaraderie of the brothers it's been an awesome experience i definitely enjoyed this class even though you know we've all been through some kind of situation where we've had members in the class have had death in the family family members of deaf one had uh parents had covert so it was different different things but the fact is we were all always there to support each other and that's the great thing it's just like a what we call these are like the band of brothers and the thing now we're planning we're planning to have fellowships after this class which is another great thing since i joined the first year second year third year god's god has given me the memory verses the scripture any crisis i go through life the connection with the brothers it just shows you if you make time for god god to make time for you well it helped me grow spiritually helps me grow mentally um during times of what we're going through now it strengthens me it allows me to follow what christ teaches us and allows me to grow in the way he wants us to grow i had two funerals in 19 my first year of discipleship and you know i thank god for my discipleship brothers were there with me to help me get through you know those two deaths and you know they they gathered around me and supported me a lot this three-year journey has been great to me it's been an amazing journey to understand the life lessons that the bible has to teach you it's been a great opportunity i came in as a very young christian so being able to understand the bible and understanding that the old testament the new testament has been a real blessing to me discipleship truly has been life-changing for me just to be grouped with a band of brothers to go through their experiences with helps you grow but just all being connected and being on one accord every time every time we meet is awesome this pandemic has been hard for all of us but we've really committed ourselves to growing in christ and just really just going through this thing together as a whole so as you saw discipleship here at new salmons and all of our groups are life-changing encounters so starting next week next sunday september the 12th you can register for and they are safe is anybody glad to be in the safety of the lord come on he's protected us another week and on this communion sunday we declare that jesus is lord that jesus is lord hallelujah lord i [Music] oh jesus [Music] [Applause] [Music] i determined to give the lord glory come on what's his [Music] so name i get a little weakness [Music] yes it [Music] every is of my life [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] something bout the name of jesus [Music] in the morning [Music] [Music] how precious is [Music] [Music] jesus [Music] [Applause] [Music] if the lord has done anything for you you want to show some signs you want to wave your hands you want to praise the lord you're going to lift up and say i thank you jesus oh if you've got a reason to praise god i need you to just take about 10 seconds right there open up your mouth and give god the best praise that you have or is there anybody here who knows you've got a reason to be thankful you've got a reason to praise god the bible says let everything that have breath i know we got mass going i know it's kobe so we can't go up and down our road like we normally would but i need you to just look up and down your road and just do a quick praise check and make sure that somebody on that road got a reason to give god praise if they ain't got a shout just move over to that other empty seat but i think there's somebody here who just needs to thank god that you're still here you're still standing god hasn't left you you are still in the land of the living hope it hasn't taken you out but you just got a reason to say my god oh just wait that's somebody on your robe and say i got a reason to thank god if you knew the hell i've been through you know why i shout like i do with my last on i can still lift up holy hands i can still open up my mouth and give god praise for all he's done oh god's been good to us we saw this it's the first sunday in another month we're still here we're still coming to god's house giving him praise and we're just thankful because god has been good to us if god's been good to you i need you to put your hands together right there because god has been blessing us you may go to your seats all over the room we thank god for all that he's doing we're here now another month we've been blessed to come through eight months in 2021 if not anything else one thing we've learned over this last year in the health last year and a half is that we ought to thank god for every day we wake up [Music] the fact that we are still here is enough reason right there to give god praise and we are certainly thankful for all that god is doing and god is doing some exciting things here at new psalmist this week we are in communion today 3 30 bishop oscar brown and the first mountain out of free will baptist church will be sharing with us in holy communion today at 3 30 right online virtual so make sure you get your crackers your grape juice your bread whatever you have in the house use that as your communion as we remember the sacrifice that jesus made for us on that hill called calvary and starting next week we begin registration for all of our fall activities here at the church our bible studies our connection groups our discipleship classes and more we will begin registering right online on our church center site newpsalmist.churchcenter.org we are looking forward to what god is going to do this fall here new psalm is in connection all of our classes will be virtual again and so you'll have an opportunity to sign up to grow this semester here at new psalmist let me see by just show of hands how many persons that have been blessed in connection groups or discipleship over this last year here at new psalmist amen amen this past spring we had over 2000 persons that were growing in the word and so we're looking forward to what god's going to do so make sure you are registered on church center so that next sunday you can begin signing up for your groups and then also on the last saturday of this month we're holding another baptism service here at new psalmist so for anyone who wants to be baptized any of our candidates for baptism make sure you go to our church center site today and register for baptism right here the church on september the 25th we have over 100 candidates for baptism amen we thank god for persons who've made a decision for jesus christ and doing some great things and we are so excited about what god is doing here at new psalmist and oftentimes we have been so exposed to god doing great things and god blessing us that we don't take time to just reflect on all that god has done and over these last 18 months or so church we have been so richly blessed by the leadership of our pastor bishop walter scott thomas senior [Music] i don't want to preempt the announcement that's coming but i need you for just a moment to stand on your feet and let's just thank god for our pastor the best pastor in the world bishop walter scott thomas senior and i want you to get ready on the last sunday of this month somebody say the last sunday september the 26th we are going to be honoring and saluting and celebrating our pastor for 46 years of pastoral leadership at the new psalmist baptist church [Applause] over this last year and a half one of the things that we have seen is that our pastor is not like every other pastor get in trouble today we have seen the leadership the dedication the care that he has for his congregation amen first lady can attest to it there will be many times where we would be preparing for different conference calls or bible studies and not only would bishop be given being up all hours of the night preparing but then researching for town halls to bring information to his congregation so so often in this in this day and age of christianity where where preachers have taken on celebrity status and they serve everybody but their church we have to pause and thank god that though we have the best preacher in the world though we have one of the most sought after coaches in the world though we have what i would say is the best strategic ministry mine in the world he said my primary task through this pandemic is leading and shepherding the congregation that god has blessed me to serve amen so on the fourth sunday of this month we're going to salute him for 46 years of pastoral ministry dr william watley is going to be sharing with us on that day we're going to bring our cards our gifts our tokens of appreciation to honor our man of god on that fourth sunday god has been so good to us and we want to make sure that bishop knows without a shadow of a doubt that his church loves him amen so throughout the month you'll be hearing more information some special things we're going to be asking you to do all of those who serve in ministries here at the church your ministry leaders have been sending you out some information if you have not received that make sure you reach out to your liaison or your ministry leader this week so they make sure you get the letter to see what it is that we're going to do for our pastor but we are just so honored that god has blessed us with bishop thomas and we get the opportunity to bless him on the fourth sunday of this month amen so throughout this month we're going to be reflecting on what bishop has meant to us here at new psalmist so i want you to turn your attention to the screen to my left and my right and for those of you sharing online tune right in we want to take a quick trip down memories lane as we get ready to celebrate 46 think that you got where you are because you lord when i saw that television i said he really tried to show how old i am my god come on let's just give god praise for another day [Applause] holy holy holy you know there's something unique about being in new psalmist there's something unique about getting up riding up to the city of zion parking your car come walking up here god strategically put us on this hill this mound in northwest baltimore so that we could come walking up streaming up to zion and realize that god who is our god i need you to do something for a second i need you to take a deep breath and just exhale and then say holy holy holy if he's been good to you [Music] our songs [Music] oh there's some worshipers here [Music] james play all 88 of those kings [Music] [Music] [Applause] holy holy holy all the saints adored [Music] me [Music] [Music] [Music] i can see [Music] they're falling down me [Music] [Music] whatever you're going through [Music] the lord has not left you [Music] there's a little song that says these are the days of elijah we're living through some tough times rough times [Music] more people are in the hospital now than have been in months more people are getting sick than having months it is time to get vaccinated and vaccinate our way out of this [Music] the supreme court this week allowed one of [Music] the most deceptive pieces of legislation to go through that empowers individuals to replace the state in bringing charges against individuals that [Music] that almost incomprehensible decision stands the chance to reverse all of the gains we've made as a people and are trying to make as a people just the fact that the state can take itself out of making decisions and empower individuals to be almost like vigilantes these are some tough times [Music] america is like a box four corners or four four boundaries on the west we have fires [Music] in the gulf we saw the devastation last week the east and northeast battered persons dead the top is canada all within our box there's terrible stress and struggling you cannot avoid it you cannot miss it but this is the season god called us to be in [Music] he didn't birth us in another season nor did he let us die out of season he put us here for right now i need you to look at somebody and just tell them even with that mask up over your nose i'm supposed to be here these other days tim i need you to let somebody hear a rough melody within a may or rather a rough lyric with an amazing melody i need you to hear hurt and heaven at the same the time of the lord and these are the days of god's servant moses righteousness being restored where the fields [Music] come on [Music] [Music] of is elijah preparing the word of the lord well now and these are the days of god's servants moses righteousness being restored these are the days [Music] is [Music] this is [Music] [Music] there's no god like jehovah there's no god like jehovah help me say this there's no god like jehovah there's no god nobody like him all by himself [Music] [Music] beginning [Music] [Music] is [Music] my brothers and my sisters god has us in this season he had your mama and your daddy and another season you'll have your great grandchildren and their great and their children in another season but he has you and me in this season he didn't let us get out of this but this is where god wants us this is the season he wants us in because we are his witnesses we are his mouthpiece in this season [Music] do you know that people born now live longer when i was in my teens and younger most people died in their 60s oh i mean if you made it past 65 you were doing good but now people live much longer when i came to new psalmist we had one super elderly person sister mary dow murray dow passed and then sister mary katherine williams was in her 90s one person now we have many in their 80s and 90s functioning in church week after week next sunday i'll say more about it but next sunday will salute one of our fine members who's celebrating her 110th birthday and still getting around people are living longer god has us in this season i get what i'm going to say preparing people and showing and modeling before little children behavior and beliefs that they will use in the next century when they are the elders and are showing others how to make it you and i are planting seeds now in the lives of little people who will live in the next century when you and i have closed our eyes i do not plan to see the opening of 20 22 or rather 20 100. i don't plan to see that but i know that seeds we plant now in the lives of people who will be alive in 2100 will help them show others the greatness of our god this is the day church this is the day this is the day of the open door this is the day we'll see spirit clothes this this is your hour [Music] [Music] this is the [Music] oh this is [Music] this is god [Music] [Applause] a visitation [Music] is [Music] [Music] [Music] you are where you're supposed to be [Music] and you're in the season you're supposed to be and this is the segment of the season when god is visiting you when the door is open and you will see miracles god is so much god that if he had wanted you [Music] in the days of slavery you'd have been born there he is so much god that if he had wanted you men women to be a part of the segregated units that fought in the civil war world war one and two you would have been god is such a god that if he had wanted you to grow up in the days of super jim crow [Music] and in the days when you'd have been called boy and girl you would have been but he has chosen this moment to establish you when all hell is swirling around us because he believes in you and he believes in me [Music] he's going to do great things i want right where you are before we lift our offering and we're going to lift our offering in a moment our brothers and sisters who are sharing with us in our virtual space i need you to join us in this congregational space i need everybody to do this i need all of my leaders my deacons and deaconess and may i serve people i need you to wave at me a second i need you to stand right where you are if you're not standing yeah barbara you stay seated you stay seated okay barbara says she's standing on this i need you to face in to wherever you are the people in your section barbara barbara fuse i need you to point backward pam i need you to point over the front here you pam i mean uh uh barbara barbara and joyce i need you all pointing out that i want us to reach out to the congregation because we gotta i want us to pray for him father in the name of jesus so many people are living in a time that makes no sense and so hard to manage and navigate we come from all over now living rooms bedrooms kitchens cars jobs sanctuary backyard porch sitting in a chair we come from all over now and i bring them to you recovering them father recovering them recovering them recovering them recovering them through your blanket now god [Music] throw your blanket now god [Music] lift every head soothe every heart speak to every spirit [Music] let your will be made manifest your presence be received fill the sky fill us god tell how cups overflow fellas god in the name of jesus christ this segment of your commissioned army stands before you to be recommissioned for another tour of duty another seven days in the work to which we've been assigned grant us peace oh god we pray that we might do fully brilliantly and completely your will in the world this is the day [Music] this is the day of visitation [Music] this is the day [Music] this is the day [Music] yes lord this is the day this [Music] this is [Music] this is [Music] in the name of jesus christ we all say amen raise your hands and just give god praise [Music] and i need as we we're getting ready to give our gifts our gifts of love i need you to say to yourself all week long this i am where god wants me to be i'm going through what god wants me to go through this is the hour we're getting ready to give god's doing so much we're seeking to do so much to join his will in the world we're giving to our projects and plans there's some projects we're planning to finish met with our board yesterday some projects we're planning to finish even that we started last year we hope to be able to finish this year and this season in this building i mean god is doing so many things and i want to be the first to thank you for your gifts your offerings of love how you help us do what we do and keep us encouraged in the process we're giving to the lord today for the work of his kingdom so that we can stay strong i do ask you to stay in prayer for not only the families of our church that are going through but the families you know that are going through be in prayer for them and ask god's grace upon their lives let's prepare our gifts our offerings now we're going to give as the lord has given rows for those who have envelopes and the rest of us are giving online so glad to have some visiting friends from other areas sharing with us today from georgia from prince george county coming to worship with us we just are so grateful and all of our worshipers who come and visit us who share with us today we thank you for coming father we give our offerings now for the work of your church in the name of jesus amen worship worship team come on prepare us for the preaching of the gospel [Music] come on anybody leaning and depending on the cheap cornerstone his name is jesus christ this song that says my hope is our hope is built on nothing less than jesus blood i dare not trust the sweetest friend but holy trust but holy trust in jesus we're gonna say that again come on say my hope is [Music] alone [Music] [Music] we've made strong [Music] nobody like you jesus is [Music] jesus christ cornerstone oh my god he is lord of all he is lord lord of all anybody had to trust him this week he [Music] he has risen from the dead and he is lord [Music] hallelujah [Music] [Music] would you open your bibles to the third chapter of the revelation of saint john the divine i want to pick up where i left off last week he is lord i don't know about anybody else but i thank god for church i thank god for church i thank god for the church and he is lord [Music] third chapter beginning with verse 19. those whom i love are rebuking discipline so be earnest and repent here i am i stand at the door and knock if anyone hears my voice and opens the door i'll come in and eat with that person and they with me to the one who is victorious i will give the right to sit with me on my throne just as i was victorious and sat down with my father on his throne here i am i stand at the door and knock you may go to your seats just think to yourself somebody's knocking at my door somebody's knocking at my door if there's one thing about god i know it is this god sees and understands more than i do he sees what's happening in life he sees what's happening in my life he sees what's happening in the world and he understands far more than i do he understands that what we often think will make us happy will only make us happy for a season he knows that what we claim to want will sometimes wax coal in our spirit and we'll tire of it he knows that what is on our lips today may fall like dusty ashes tomorrow quiet as it's kept he knows us better than we know ourselves if i have anyone who agrees with that just say amen my brothers and sisters the passage before us today is written or given us transcribed by john the revelator while he sits on a craggy island called patmos he's been exiled there for but doing one thing preaching the gospel and telling individuals about jesus christ and his love for them as he writes this as he sits there he has a moment what might be called an unbelievable incredible moment a moment when he's overshadowed by the spirit in fact he writes it and says i was in the spirit on the lord's day a sunday very much like this in a place he did not want to be a sunday very much like this on an island he thought he'd never escape a sunday very much like this when his mind was a million miles away the lord jesus christ came to him and spoke to him i wish i could get a witness from somebody who's had the lord speak to you in a place you didn't think he was coming but on that island dressed in rags wondering if he would ever see the light of another city and walk the streets of another place the lord jesus christ arrives and tells him there is work to be done somebody needs to put a pen right there that the lord will give you a job to do in the place you don't even want to be the lord has an assignment for you in the place you're trying to leave help me somebody the lord is pulling out the stops telling you what's next when you're trying to tell him where you want to go next in other words the charting of our course is not really left up to us the plan and steps of a man are not ordered by his mom and daddy not ordered by himself or his friends but the steps of a good person are ordered by the lord in the very place john does not want to be at the very time john does not want to be there the lord says i still have work for you to do john is trying to put in retirement papers john is trying to get an exit visa john is trying to get out of where he is and the lord is saying oh no i've got work for you to do right here i i've got an assignment and when i give you the assignment it'll change your impression about where you are i i want you to take out some papyrus i need you to get something to write on i don't care if it's a rock but i need you to be ready to transcribe what i'm going to say say to you and show you i'm first going to dictate some letters and then i'm going to show you some visions my god in a place you don't want to be at a time you don't want to be there god decides to give you something you never imagined in your life if i'm on somebody's street just give me a wink i can see over that mask in a place you don't want to be at a time you're trying to get out of there god says i'm gonna show you stuff and give you stuff you don't expect you're in the spirit on the lord's day i'm showing up and i'm showing up in the form of my son the lord jesus christ he's going to talk to you dictate some letters to you and then give you a panoramic view of the coming of the end while you sit in a place you don't want to be doing what you don't want to do having to put up with people you don't want to put up with now somebody's already got the sermon i mean i could quit right there and go home somebody's already caught it the lord is telling you stop crying over where you are and start looking for what i'm getting ready to do in your life because i have uh oh uh oh uh oh i i need some bold people to get ready to flex because i have work for you to do and it's about time you put in the work you've been working on your stuff you've been working on their stuff you've been working on everybody else stuff but i need you now to put in the work on my stuff my stuff got you here but now my stuff is going to take you away from here my stuff is going my stuff is going to make you a household name in the future i i want you to write these letters to seven churches i want you to write to ephesus and smyrna i want you to write the pergamum and thyrotara i want you to write to sardis in philadelphia and i want you to save enough ink for a letter to the church at laodicea that that wealthy community over there called laodicea that that populist place over there leia decear i i want you to save the last some enough ink enough parchment so that you can write every word i tell you to write them i've got things for the other churches but this last church i i've got to get them straight because john i'm giving you these letters to send out because time is winding up i will one day be coming back and i need the house ready when i return these seven churches will represent seven different kinds of behaviors by the people of god and i want you to write these letters because god's folk got to straighten up sometime because these are perilous days in which we're living and god needs us ready for the battle he says write this letter to the church at laodicea the church that's living in a wealthy community a church that has more money than they can count they don't even need help when they have trouble they could have had the floods that were hitting the south and the hurricanes that hitting the north and been able to pay for the whole reconstruction they had money well known for their goods and services that they sold the colors of clothes that were bought in other places their clothes were worn by others they have it all they have medicine they have doctors they have a school of medicine they work on ears and eyes but don't realize that they're spiritually blind they they they have a lot but they are poor they dress up but they're naked they work on eyes but they can't see help me somebody he says and i want you to write this letter to them write this letter and tell them it's written that's coming from the words of the a a men the faithful and the true witness the ruler of god's creation in other words tell them it's coming from me i got a word for them i gotta straighten them out tell them this i i know i know your deeds that you are neither cold nor hot and essentially lukewarm you're not burning hot or freezing cold something's happened to you while living among all this stuff because see don't don't fool yourself the church is a part from society but the church is a part of society what do you mean preacher well the folk in society come to church and the folk in church live in society somebody is going to be rubbing off on somebody and the question is which way is the rubbing going help us god jesus comes and says write this letter saying it's coming from me that i see you you're no longer on fire for me you're no longer passionate for me now now that i've blessed your life given you some of the accoutrements of life you got you got this you got that you got a little piece of change in your pocket you can shelter in place you're not sheltering in your car you're not living on the sidewalk you you really don't praise me and think about me like you used to you don't make me number one in your life anymore you don't seek my face you don't come by to visit and worship you're out there on your own you've gotten all the things that people want in life you've got the money the career the job the this the promotion the prestige the popularity they know you on instagram you are known on the ground somebody said cram known on the ground i mean people see you and say aren't you so-and-so you know they'd walk you walk down the street they know you you know you work in this nice job you you walk around looking like somebody you didn't lose your job during the pandemic help us god you were all able women oh i'm gonna hurt you you didn't even have to cook every day you did dart dash club hub uber eats can you run over there for me can you drop this by my house you had everything laid out for you everything was given to you it doesn't bother you that thousands of people are dying you don't get upset anymore that the hospitals are overflowing you you you've given up on this and that and this group in that group and yet i've been blessing you so your cup i need to see the hands and if you if you're worshiping in your living room and as long as you ain't driving i need you to throw your hands up if you've if your cup has been running over when i look at all god's done he said but you you neither cone or hot where's your passion and your fire for me there's an old song where is the blessedness i knew when first i met the lord where is the soul's refreshing feel of jesus and his word then that other one lord i'm going through many they are that started the race but with the race they refused to keep pace many accepted because it was new but not very many decide to go through but lord i'm going through where's the passion where's the fire where does it burn in your heart for the lord jesus christ after all the things you've been through where is some of us ought to get out of bed and just shout of us ought to shout down the steps like we do in the crate challenge some of us ought to just get in the car and praise god wow when you think about where he's brought you from and how he's done it how he's kept you delivered you somebody ought to just shout how many of you know you got some praise that you need to give god and clear your account you need to write down your bill you need to stop making monthly payments and make a big deposit on your praise account because when you think of all he's done for you there is absolutely no reason why anybody should know you and not know your faith help me somebody there is no reason why anybody should say to you i didn't know you went to church why because every chance you get your mouth ought to be open on how good the lord has been to you dr lawyer president in your spirit presiding over the council of your heart he's been a waymaker heart fixer burden bearer bridge over troubled water shelter in the time of storm my god there should be no lukewarm saints in this house in fact look at somebody in your house and tell them i got to give god a praise right now i need to take a break i need to make i need to put this cup back in the microwave for two minutes and let it boil over but laodicea is not there they are not there they are not there tricia that is not them they they do not they do not they do not get in the car and talk about the worship service they do not get on the phone and chat with their friends about what the lord is doing in their lives instead they go to champaign brunch and talk about people in instead they go home and turn on qvc see if they're gonna order next in turn they they don't they don't talk about how the lord moved on the table of their heart they go complain about something somebody did 15 years ago and how they still can't stand binky for what binky did binky been dead for two years jesus says you neither hot no cold you look warm you look warm you you you know every now and then when you at work and you can i see the hands of folk with a good job it doesn't even have to be a good government job but a good job or no could look like a lot of retired people here can i see the hands of people who get a check come in some kind of way every now and then you ought to just whatever you're doing just stop let somebody walk by and say what you doing i'm giving god the glory i'm giving god some glory i just had to give him some glory i had so my spirit got put in the microwave for two minutes and all of my hallelujah is boiling over all of my thank you jesus is boiling over i just i just had to do it he says but you're neither hot nor cold you don't do that you don't do that and i am about and and this was the line mike that got me he said i'm about to spew you out my mouth i always read that text and never considered this word always listen he says i know your deeds that you're neither calling i wish that you were either one or the other so because you're lukewarm neither hot in the core i'm about to spit you out my mouth i'm about to treat you like spit and the only thing to do to spit is spit it that's what i thought i thought the the nexus of the text was all about spit that i had that we have been reduced to being considered as spit now that is a terrible reduction jesus said if the salt has lost it's savor what good is it for but to be cast out and charging under the feet of men in other words if that's where you are you ain't worth nothing but to but i missed the one word anthony i missed this word i am about to did you get it did you get it i am i haven't i i have not spit you out yet i have not now you ain't worth two dead flies than anybody else's assessment you're neither hot nor cold i have i've made your cup run over and you still ain't on fire i have blessed your socks off of you and you still don't talk about me i have brought you through hell in high water and you still got other concerns i am about to spit you out but i haven't done it [Applause] yeah now i i need i need us to get this this is the letter the lord jesus christ is writing to the church of laodicea but he's writing to anybody for whom the shoe fits you ain't on fire for me after living through 16 what's the 16 months about 16 or 17 months of the unbelievable and the incredible the absolutely undesired you have come through hell in highway and you still got the nerve to be chilly acting first off like you didn't done something have men have you forgotten that in the early stages of this virus we didn't know what caused it we were wiping off plastic bags yeah we had enough clorox in our house we could have done all of y'all my daughter had them deliver food to her one day she wiped off the box it came in wiped off the bags that they had put in the box and then wiped off the plastic on top the chicken i said george did you wipe the chicken with clorox too we didn't know what caused this then they said it's airborne and we didn't know how not to get it don't be around folk duh how you not gonna be around folk i mean some people have lived their lives not being around folk but the majority of us gonna interact with somebody somewhere people dying getting sick dying like flies how do you think you survived that by your intellect by the hand of god we are the people god has kept for this moment god said and you not on fire after all the phone calls that came to your house about who's sick and who's in the hospital who's got trouble who's got this who's got that and god kept a roof over your head food in your belly shoes on your feet your children healthy and you're not on fire in essence he's coming against anybody who's taking his goodness and his grace for granted this is a text about taking him for granted taking him for granted look at somebody said not today baby not today child i'm about to bust it up and bust a move up here myself not gonna take him for granted he says i'm about to spit you out my mouth but i'm writing you this letter because i don't want to have to and this is the line sharing this line he says cause whom i love are discipline y'all y'all missed it jesus says i called you lukewarm i said you taking me for granted i said you not hot or cold i don't understand how you can be this crazy but don't don't get it twisted just because i rebuke you and discipline you doesn't mean i don't love you in fact if i didn't love you i'd have spit you out a long time ago how many of you are glad that the lord jesus christ is not like you see i'm preaching this series i'm preaching this series officers and i say yes i'm preaching this series because see he's not like us but that doesn't mean we aren't called to be like him y'all miss that he's not like us but we are the body of christ and we are called to be like him i don't want him to spit me out because i'm not like him god is getting quiet what do you mean preacher well there are a whole lot of folk out of spit out by now how many of you know there's a gang of folk baby you have spit them out if they don't say nothing to you you won't say nothing to them if they don't say hi to you you ain't saying hi to them you can walk by them and not sneeze and don't have to feel bad about it you can go down the market line and glad you got your mask on so that they don't know your face you know their hair you know their hairline you know that fake eyebrow over their eye you know i'm well but you ain't speaking baby because you don't cut them off if i'm on main street wave at me the lord jesus christ says you got it twisted you got to twist it i said i'm about to spit you out but i didn't spit you out because whom i love i discipline and rebuke because i know if you heed the correction we can operate in fellowship god somebody's got to get this and don't fool yourself the lord doesn't release you and me from that same obligation you don't have the right to be spitting anybody out acting like you all this and that i can't twist in your head and wiggle in your hand no we are the body of christ he didn't spit us out we can't spit anybody else out we've got to speak the truth in love and then let love do its perfect work god i feel like shouting right now look at somebody tell me i'm about to bust a move let love do its perfect work because love love will cause me to call in question my behavior love will cause me to call in question my behavior and whenever i call my behavior in question my belief system is not far behind see we believe in the lord jesus christ we just don't believe in the lord jesus christ we believe in the lord who blesses not the christ who behaves [Applause] see when i commit when he confronts me and i have to commit it i have to analyze my behavior and when i analyzed my behavior i began to realize what caused my behavior was my beliefs he says because i love you i confront you and when i confront you my confrontation that you're taking me for granted forces you to reconcile whether i'm right and when you look at your behavior you can draw no other conclusion but when you look at your behavior you then have to look at your beliefs that gave birth to those behaviors i had the right to do that he said but now let me tell you something because i love you i ain't spit you out god somebody ought to be happy right now because you know you ain't been all that he said but because i love you i didn't spit you out but i tell you what i did what i will do and i am doing nobody let me get the tents right i tell you what i am doing remember he says i'm about to spit you out that means in the what in the future i'm about to spit you out in the future what am i doing now i'm telling you about your past but what am i doing in the present i'm knocking on your door i don't want you to have the negative future i want you to take a good look at the negative pass and in order to get you to the right future i'm gonna knock on your door and to the person and this is what he says behold i stand at the door and knock if anyone hears my voice and opens i'll come and insult with them for the longest time for the long time mike as i read that i i i miss something he says if anyone opens the door in other words there's a whole gang of people in there there's a whole gang of people because he's right he's he's imaging a church there's a whole gang of people in the church who are the way he's just described but what's he doing and he says if anyone hears my voice now you got to hear the knocking too right it's me i'm out here can you let me in if anyone hears my voice and what opens the door women last week i told you jesus knocks and speaks he knocks knox represents situation speaks or rather knock is represented where you are and speaking he's speaking into your heart and your mind he says but now the other side of that is what's happening on the other side the door in the church people are hearing the knock jesus is knocking and speaking we are hearing the knock and the voice but there's a second action we have to do too first we gotta hear jesus is knocking and speaking those are the two things he's doing two things we have to do are here and open but he doesn't say or imply that there's a rush to the door he says if anyone in other words some folk ain't gonna get it and you can't deny or hold back what god wants to do in your life and for you waiting on other folk to get what only you are getting right now god somebody help me preach this thing lord you can't wait for other people to hear and to see what you hear and see he says if you hear it you get up if you feel it you get up if you sense it you move look at somebody and say he talking to me now he talking to me now everybody's not gonna get on board with what god is doing in your life everybody's not gonna see how god is using you everybody's not gonna feel what god is doing in your space you've got to move for yourself and i started wondering then who are the people who open the door the clear answer the folk who've been made unsettled because what they have is not fully satisfying them now that ought to hit everybody in this church i don't care who you are life is not totally fulfilling if i'm on main street somebody wave at me there's some aspect of your life that you are wrestling with every day the lord jesus christ says you're in laodicea you got money you got clothes you got popularity you got healing you got this you got that but i know there's still some areas in life that are not going the way they ought to go why because i got started the sermon by saying the lord knows stuff about us and about our world that even we don't fully understand how is it that you can have all the money in the world and still not be totally happy how is it that you can have a great job and still look for another job how is it that you can be in a great relationship and still feel unfulfilled why because there's a void in all of us that can only be filled by the grace and presence of the lord jesus christ see whatever you have and whatever i have is great but if you haven't if you have what you have it has to be added to something to become what god wants it to be and what is that something christ has to be there if you have a great relationship it's not all that till christ is there you got a great job it ain't all that till christ is there you've got good money you'll lose it unless christ ain't there christ is the great addition to everything he has given you he is the flavoring you need to add to all the stuff he has already put in your life let me see if i can define it this way everything the lord gives you is the stuff that built up the house i want you to imagine your job your education your money your friends everything that that's all the building that has gone up but if the house is built on sinking sand it doesn't matter how lavish it is it's coming down jesus says before anything makes good sense in manageable sense you got to build it on a firm foundation and that foundation is not me blessing you that foundation is me being who i am i am the son of god i am god's gift to you to make your humanity everything god intended it to be i am god's foundation in your life to help you interpret everything that comes your way and if you get up and open the door i will bless your life i need you to look at somebody and tell them drama is universal andrea one of our preachers andrea young said to me she said pastor drama is universal it doesn't matter who you are everybody got some drama if i've got some people in here with some drama raise your hand and wave at me well see when you open the door and let the lord jesus come in and this is family month he says i will come in and i won't lecture you he says i will come in and don't think i'm gonna give you a book to read i will come in and i won't send you to amazon and tell you to get this on kindle audio what i will do is i will come in and i will sit down with you wait a minute i got a lot of african americans in church today i got a lot of african americans in church today where do we do our great entertainment at the table baby how many of y'all grew up where the best conversation was at the table i mean when folk came over y'all sit around the table mama would cook a big spread and the table was the place that was where fellowship was united jesus said i'm not coming to lecture you i'm coming to sit down at your table because i ain't got much time but i'm gonna drop with this live because i want you to know when i sit down at the table i'm sitting down in fellowship and what you will realize when you open the door and let me come in is that i will be let somebody say this this for you i will be just what the moment needs when i come in and sit down with you i'll be as if somebody said this is just what the doctor ordered has the lord ever sat down in your car with you and all of a sudden you started to feel your burdens lift off of you have you ever been driving and heard music that was seemingly pitched just for you have you ever come to church and sat down and felt like the lord was wrapping his arms of love around you in other words the lord said when you stop trying to figure out your life and just say come lord jesus sit down a while and have a little talk with me tell me what's going on in my life and let me tell you all about my troubles let me tell you all about my sorrows why because you will hear my faintest cry and you will answer by and by just sit down a while lord and tell me everything will be all right i need about 12 people now who know there have been moments you've just heard the lord say everything is gonna be all right you lost a job but the lord said it's gonna be all right your money was running funny but the lord said it's gonna be all right your sons and daughters were in perilous situations but the lord said it'll be all right he sat down and he was just what you needed he tried your tears he calmed all your fears i don't know about anybody else but i feel like shouting because there were times i didn't feel like opening the door there were times i acted like i didn't need to open the door but i'm so glad today that when i let the lord jesus christ come in he tried my tears can i get a praise from somebody let me drop this then i'm finished joshua he'll do three things and i'm going to my seat when he sits beside you he'll help you reframe all of your troubles he'll help you see how what looks bad can be turned for your good he'll let you see how a high mountain makes you strong he'll let you see how being knocked down empowers you to get back up do i have anybody in here who's had the lord show you that weeping may endure for night but joy comes in the morning come on i need somebody who knows that he'll do that for you and he'll show you that god didn't bring you this far to leave you now you see when he refrains your troubles he'll let you see how god is at work in your life i need you to tell somebody i am when god wants me to be god i'll shout on that myself but not only does he help me to reframe but he helps to he helps me to elevate my expectations you see when the lord comes in he tells you who you are you are not a dog or a cat your name ain't boy or girl but you are a blood washed citizen of the kingdom of god you are a child of the most high you have been bloodborne and bloodborne you have been saved by grace you've been filled with the person power and presence of the holy ghost and he'll help you believe that there is nothing impossible for you to do in the name of jesus christ i can do all things through christ you see when he refrains i learn about god and believe in god but when he elevates i start believing about the god in me i start believing greater is he that is in me then he that's in the world but not only that then i'm finished he will elevate he will elevate your expectations but not only will he elevate your expectation look at somebody and tell him he'll ignite your excitement then you will be excited about what the lord shall do he shall try my chill he shall wipe away all fear no weapon formed against them let the government do its worse let the storms do their worst but our god is a strong tower and he will bring us through let the supreme court try to tear us down let state legislators try to mess with our rights but that's all right i'm excited i'm excited because my god we'll supply my god we'll fight our battles my god will deliver my god will hold us up my god my god is my rock my god is by my side come in lord jesus come in lord jesus take up residence lord jesus [Music] i'm done i'm finished [Music] behold [Music] yes [Music] [Music] yes [Music] so somebody if i don't let him in this drama that i'm living through take me out some of y'all god put you in strategically tough places if you don't let him in he will wipe you out that drama will take you when you're sitting at your desk and crazy is everywhere when you're sitting in the living room with your head in your hand somebody real slow for me that all spiritual way somebody's knocking somebody somebody's knocking somebody's knocking at my door who's it knock like i think it knocks like jesus jesus is knocking at the door [Music] jesus is knocking at the door jesus is lucky yes lord jesus jesus [Music] my brothers and my sisters drama is universal i got it you got it your mama got it drama universal your supervisor got it your subordinate got it you got it drama universal your grandmama had it your mama got it your daughter got it trauma is universal your daddy had drama your brother got drama you got drama your son got trauma everybody got trauma drama is universal [Music] and amid everything you have none of it can handle drama because drama goes to the basement the foundation drama puts in big cracks in the basement we were building the other church after we were there we came across something and they called it spalding isn't that the right word and spaulding in the concrete it's when you get these big cracks because the ground has shifted and it's a big crack and sometimes the only way to fix it is to take the whole piece out wait a minute get what i'm gonna say redo the foundation then pour new concrete the lord says you got great structures and stuff going on you're like but i'm knocking because you got cracks in the foundation you only recognize and i want to fix it now notice this i got to say this when you do foundation work and if you've ever had to do work in the house and yet work in the foundation keep water from coming in nobody knows you do foundation work you go out and buy new curtains paint the house put down new put down hard wood floors get new carpet get a new dining room set people come in your house oh you got a new dining room child that's pretty yeah i got it at such and such but nobody goes down the basement talk about you put in new concrete that you tore up a bathroom and put down a new floor anybody say that but guess who ought to talk about the basement you me child i just finished a whole new job in the basement what you do i fixed a whole section of broken concrete i hadn't been paying it much mind thinking much about it but i fixed it what happened well that whole part of my house was beginning to sink and i didn't know it but once i fixed it my house back where it's supposed to be jesus christ is that foundation i don't know who you are i don't know where you are but if you're sharing in worship with us today and you know that you need the lord jesus christ to fix the foundation i want to offer you this opportunity to know he is the way you can open your heart to him right now he's knocking he said well i don't hear him listen closely he knocking that voice you hear that thought you can't get out your head that message that's coming to you from within is him he does not hate you nor has he pushed you to the curb or kicked you to the curb he's been troubling you because he loves you and he's knocking now so you'll open and get to know him jesus christ is the way i want to pray i want everybody to stand i want to pray a prayer [Music] because i believe there are persons who sharing with us who don't have jesus christ in their lives tonight we'll be back or this afternoon 3 30 for communion with bishop brown who's hearing this word today and saying i want out of the drama the lord will help you to reframe it he'll take drama and show you destiny he'll help you to reframe that and see him believe in him when he reframes he'll elevate your expectations about what's possible possible for you and through you he'll help you believe in yourself and he'll ignite excitement your face will glow your face will glow because now the future is yours you don't have to worry about the house sinking the walls falling in oh no the lord jesus christ is available father i come on behalf of all of us today each and every one of us is asking for space and time in the flame not to be purged but to be warmed up heated up to bubbling status we want our passion on fire we want to be blazing hot for you you didn't bring us this far to leave us now and so we stand asking you to come into our lives in a new way some of us have known you for a long time and we ask you to reignite us and there's some o god for whom all of this is brand new they want to start knowing you through your son jesus christ jesus i remember the day you changed my life and i asked you to do it for my brothers and sisters who are sharing with us now forgive them of all the things that have been messed up and messed over in their lives don't spit them out god don't spit them out christ jesus but give them this chance this opportunity to open the door i see him god in the spirit's eye i see brothers and sisters who know they need you now and so i ask you to step to them and change their lives like you did ours save them god as only you can do it christ jesus we ask it in your name amen my brother my sister if you want to give your life to jesus christ and be a part of our family sitting at the table with us i ask you now to send but he's gonna keep knocking at our door until we let him in there's some areas of our lives we got to clean up there's some things in our foundations we have to shore up so that we're ready and we're prepared to do all that he's called us to do and the thing that was so powerful about that word is that in this season as we're preparing to grow there may be some of you who are sharing with us today online in the virtual sanctuary who say i need to shore up some errors in my life i want to throw in the word i need to get more serious about connecting to god connecting with the body of christ connecting with the fellowship well next sunday you have the opportunity to start to pour that new fresh layer of concrete to start to show up your spiritual foundation to be prepared because he's knocking at your door and as he's knocking as you're hearing the knot he's revealing to you some things in your life that he that you need to fix up some areas of your life that you really need to let
