this sunday eucharistic celebration we gather around the table of our lord jesus christ the rock of our salvation and we lift up to him our petitions our needs our prayers and like peter we confess our strong faith in jesus the christ the son of god and so as we begin this eucharist let us first acknowledge our sins and acknowledge also the forgiveness and compassion given to us by our lord lord jesus you heal the sick lord have mercy lord have mercy lord jesus you forgave sinners christ have mercy christ have mercy lord jesus you gave yourself to heal us and bring us strength lord have mercy lord have mercy may almighty god have mercy on us forgive us our sins and bring us to everlasting life amen glory to god in glorify you we give you thanks for your prayer [Music] almighty father lord jesus christ only begotten son lord god son of the father you take away the sins of the world have mercy on us you take away the sins of the world receive our of the prayer have mercy on us for you alone are the holy one you are the lord the lord you and the lord jesus christ with the holy spirit in the glory of god the father amen let us pray o god who caused the minds of the faithful to unite in a single purpose grant your people to love what you command and to desire what you promise that amidst the uncertainties of this world our hearts may be fixed on that place where true gladness is found through our lord jesus christ your son who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the holy spirit one god for ever and ever amen a reading from the book of the prophet isaiah thus says the lord to shebna master of the palace i will thrust you from your office and pull you down from your station on that day i will summon my servant eliakim son of hilkia i will cloth him with your robe and geared him with your sash and give over to him your authority he shall be a father to the inhabitants of jerusalem and to the house of judah i will place the key of the house of david on elia kim's shoulder when he opens no one shall shut when he shuts no one shall open i will fix him like a peg in a sure spot to be a place of honor for his family the word of the lord thanks be to god lord your love is eternal do not forsake the work of your hands lord your love is eternal do not forsake the work of your hands i will give thanks to you o lord with all my heart for you have heard the words of my mouth in the presence of the angels i will sing your praise i will worship at your holy temple lord your love is eternal do not forsake the work of your hands i will give thanks to your name because of your kindness and your truth when i called you answered me you built up strength within me lord your love is eternal do not forsake the work of your hands the lord is exalted yet the lowly he sees and the proud he knows from afar your kindness o lord endures forever forsake not the work of your hands lord your love is eternal do not forsake the work of your hands a reading from the letter of saint paul to the romans o the depth of the riches and wisdom and knowledge of god how inscrutable are his judgments and how unsearchable his ways for who has known the mind of the lord or who has been his counselor or who has given the lord anything that he may be repaid for from him and through him and for him are all things to him be glory forever amen the word of the lord thanks be to god [Music] you have the words [Music] the lord be with you and with your spirit a reading from the holy gospel according to matthew glory to you o lord jesus went into the region of caesarea philippi and he asked his disciples who do people say that the son of man is they replied some say john the baptist others elijah still others jeremiah or one of the prophets he said to them but who do you say that i am simon peter said in reply you are the christ the son of the living god jesus said to him in reply blessed are you simon son of jonah for flesh and blood has not revealed this to you but my heavenly father and so i say to you you are peter and upon this rock i will build my church and the gates of the netherworld shall not prevail against it i will give you the keys to the kingdom of heaven whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven then he strictly ordered his disciples to tell no one that he was the christ brothers and sisters the gospel of the lord praise to you lord jesus christ my dear brothers and sisters [Music] we have heard from our gospel passage today one of the many famous actions of jesus and today we read the action of jesus of entrusting the keys of the kingdom of heaven to saint peter this is a very unique action of jesus done in the gospels and this is a sign of authority given to peter the keys to the kingdom and jesus said whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven whatever you lose on earth shall be loosed in heaven what a privilege what a responsibility what an authority imagine peter being being given the authority to to bind and to lose for the gates of the kingdom and that power given to peter that authority given to peter may seem to many of us as really the highest authority given to an apostle but i would like to [Music] remind ourselves also today that this keys given to peter is as said by our lord jesus christ is the keys to the kingdom of heaven this is not just the keys to the kingdom of peter they are the keys to the kingdom of heaven [Music] they were entrusted to peter but they are the keys to the kingdom of god and so the authority given to peter entrusted to peter are the keys to god's kingdom the ultimate power rests on god it was only entrusted to peter but the keys are the keys of god's kingdom and so if saint peter would decide how will he decide or what criteria will he use what will be the gold standard that he will use if he will decide what shall be bound on earth what shall be loosed on earth then the criteria of saint peter would be the kingdom of heaven he can do whatever he wants if he if he is entrusted by the keys of the kingdom then the standard to be used by saint peter is the kingdom of heaven and so i think my dear brothers and sisters this is i think a good point for reflection also for many of us today if we are given the chance to decide if we are given a choice if we are given the power or the authority to decide then like saint peter our gold standard should be the kingdom of heaven [Music] [Music] i think the authority given to peter is i think also a good point for reflection for many of us and a good way to decide also will my word will my action will my decision open the gates of heaven or will it close the gates of the kingdom foreign this authority given to peter should be also a point for reflection for us [Music] the gates of the kingdom to people or will it close the gates of the kingdom has in this time of our pandemic let our words let our actions let our decisions always consider that the authority given to us to decide to choose to say whatever we want our decisions should always be based on the kingdom of heaven [Music] for the parish priest is by what a beautiful authority what a beautiful way to use your authority to always open the gates of the kingdom of heaven to people whatever you say whatever you do whatever your decisions may be in life remember our standard is will my words will my decisions will my actions open the way to the kingdom of heaven my dear brothers and sisters as we continue celebrating this eucharist let us remember that god gives us an authority to choose to decide in life but in that authority in that decision that you will make let us remember let us open the way to the kingdom of heaven amen let us now profess our faith i believe in god the father almighty creator of heaven and earth and in jesus christ this only son of our lord born of the virgin mary suffered under crucified and was buried he descended into hell on the third day he rose again from the dead he ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of god the father almighty from there he will come to judge the living and the dead i believe the holy spirit the holy catholic church the communion of the saints the forgiveness of sins the resurrection of the body and life everlasting amen we praise god for his wisdom that is beyond our understanding but we can ask him for all our needs because he shares his wisdom with us and uses us for his purpose for every petition let us say lord hear our prayer hear our prayer for our pope francis the successor of peter that he may use the power of the keys wisely according to god's plan let us pray to the lord lord hear our prayer for those who accept the burden of public office that the power of evil may not prevail over them let us pray to the lord lord hear our prayer for those living with disabilities that they may not be pushed aside overlooked or underestimated let us pray to the lord lord hear our prayer for ourselves that we may reverence the power of the keys which god entrusts in his wisdom to the pastors of his church let us pray to the lord lord hear our prayer for the souls of the faithful departed that the merciful love of the lord make lands and perfect them let us pray to the lord lord hear our prayer in silence let us now pray for our personal intentions for the intentions offered in this mass and for the people who ask for our prayers father source of all wisdom your son entrusted his power to his church as we offer these prayers help us to fulfill your plan for us we ask this through christ our lord amen [Music] foreign [Music] i [Music] foreign pray brothers and sisters that my sacrifice and yours may be acceptable to god the almighty father may the lord accept the sacrifice at your hands for the praise and glory of his name for our good in the good of all his holy church o lord who gained for yourself a people by adoption through the one sacrifice offered once for all bestow graciously on us we pray the gifts of unity and peace in your church through christ our lord amen the lord be with you and with your spirit lift up your hearts we lift them up to the lord let us give thanks to the lord our god it is right and just it is truly right and just our duty and our salvation always and everywhere to give you thanks lord holy father almighty and eternal god for you laid the foundations of the world and have arranged the changing of times and seasons you formed man in your own image and set humanity over the whole world in all its wonder to rule in your name over all you have made and forever praise you in your mighty works through christ our lord and so with all the angels we praise you as in joyful celebration we [Music] acclaim [Music] are full of your glory [Music] who comes in the name of the lord [Music] yes you are indeed holy o lord the fount of all holiness make holy therefore these gifts we pray by sending down your spirit upon them like the dewfall so that they may become for us the body and blood of our lord jesus christ at the time he was betrayed and entered willingly into his passion he took bread and giving thanks broke it and gave it to his disciples saying take this all of you and eat of it for this is my body which will be given up for you in a similar way when supper was ended he took the chalice and once more giving thanks he gave it to his disciples saying take this all of you and drink from it for this is the chalice of my blood the blood of the new and eternal covenant which will be poured out for you and for many for the forgiveness of sins do this in memory of me the mystery of faith [Music] until you come again [Music] therefore as we celebrate the memorial of his death and resurrection we offer you lord the bread of life and the chalice of salvation giving thanks that you have held us worthy to be in your presence and minister to you humbly we pray that partaking of the body and blood of christ we may be gathered into one by the holy spirit remember lord your church spread throughout the world and bring her to the fullness of charity together with francis our pope and broderick our administrator and all the clergy remember also our brothers and sisters who have fallen asleep in the hope of the resurrection and all who have died in your mercy welcome them into the light of your face have mercy on us all we pray that with the blessed virgin mary mother of god with blessed joseph her spouse with the blessed apostles and all the saints who have pleased you throughout the ages we may merit to be co-heirs to eternal life and may praise and glorify you through your son jesus christ through him and with him and in him o god almighty father in the unity of the holy spirit all glory and honor is yours for ever and ever [Music] at the savior's command and formed by divine teaching we dare to say our fathers [Music] is [Music] us and lead us [Music] [Applause] deliver us lord we pray from every evil graciously grant peace in our days that by the help of your mercy we may be always free from sin and safe from all distress as we await the blessed hope and the coming of our savior jesus christ [Music] lord jesus christ who said to your apostles peace i leave you my peace i give you look not on our sins but on the faith of your church and graciously grant her peace and unity in accordance with your will who live and reign for ever and ever amen the peace of the lord be with you always and with your spirit
