Straight-Wall Cartridges for Hunting Big Game

[Music] if you can turn the clock back 15 years I doubt that anybody back then would have predicted that one of the biggest new trends in deer hunting would have been the use of straight wall cartridges it's a curious development but a good one because there are a lot of great old rounds as well as some newer ones that deserve a spot today's joke in the biggest driver of this is the loosening of regulations in states like Michigan Iowa Ohio and Indiana that are now allowing use of these older style cartridges and zones that had previously been shotgun only or otherwise restricted but I think there's something else at work here too a lot of these cartridges have a great history behind them and hunters are suckers for a nostalgia Plus these cartridges just flat-out work at the top of the list of powerhouse cartridges like the forty five seventy four fifty Marlin and triple four models these big cartridges to live with big bullets and impressive velocities and not only work on deer but on elk bear and other big game as well in fact the forty five seventy loaded to peak performance is capable of taking on even dangerous game there's nothing on this earth that that thing can't flat and the pantheon of straight wall cartridges you have a lot of other options as well there are some newcomers like the 450 Bushmaster which works great in semi-auto guns and the brand-spanking-new 350 legend you've also got big bore revolver rounds like the Smith & Wesson 500 and the 460 Smith which are also available in leather guns and are real thumpers and of course you could do the old traditional 44 mag or even the 357 mag with the right bullets is a very capable deer round so whether you live in one of these states where you can now hunt with straight wall cartridges or you're just curious to try something new consider giving one of these rounds of trying the next deer hunt you can go old school with a lever gun or new school with another type of firearm but either way you won't be disappointed you [Music]
