the prophet isaiah for zion's sake i will not be silent for jerusalem's sake i will not be quiet until her vindication shines forth like the dawn and her victory like a burning torch nation shall behold your vindication and all kings your glory you shall be called by a new name pronounced by the mouth of the lord you shall be a glorious crown in the hand of the lord a royal deity held by your marries a virgin your builder shall marry you and a bridegroom rejoices and as a bright groom rejoices in his bride so shall you so shall your god rejoice in you the word of the lord who claimed [Music] to sing to the lord a new song sing to the lord sing to the lord bless his name announce his salvation day after day tell his glory among the nations all of peoples is proclaiming [Music] give to the lord you family of nations give to the lord glory and praise give to the lord the glory to his name worship the lord in holy entire tremble before him all the earth say among the nations the lord is king he governs the people we have proclaimed [Music] is a reading from the first letter saint paul to the corinthians brothers and sisters there are different kinds of spiritual gifts but the same spirit there are different forms of service but the same lord there are different workings but the same god who produces all of them and everyone to each individual the manifestation of the spirit is given for some benefit to one is given through the spirit the expression of wisdom to another the expression of knowledge according to the same spirit to another faith by the same spirit to another gifts of healing by the one spirit to another mighty deeds to another prophecy to another discernment of the spirits to another varieties of tongues to another interpretations of tongues but one and the same spirit produces all these distributing them individually to each person as he wishes the word of the lord [Music] [Music] to possess the glory of our lord jesus christ oh the lord be with you a reading from the holy gospel according to john glory to you lord there was a wedding at cana in galilee and the mother of jesus was there jesus and disciples were also invited at the wedding when the wine went short the mother of jesus said to him they have no wine and jesus said to her well man how does your concern affect me my hour has not yet come his mother said to the servers do whatever he tells you now there were six stone water jars there for jewish ceremonial washings he holding 20 to 30 gallons jesus told them fill the jars with water so they fill them to the brim then he told them draw some out now and take it to the headwaiter so they took it and when it had radar tasted the water that had become wine without knowing where it came from although the servers who had drawn the water knew headwaiter called the bridegroom and said to him everyone serves good wine first and then when people have drunk freely an inferior one but you have kept the good wine until now jesus did this at the beginning of his signs canada and galilee and so revealed his glory and his disciples began to believe in him the gospel of the lord what do you dream for last month the airwaves were filled with the song on dreaming of a white christmas today you may be dreaming about being far away in some warm place basking into the sun and i'm sure most of us dream of a time again and hopefully very soon that you can go wherever you want without a care and without a mask it's nice to dream today's gospel highlights a wedding feast in cana in the beginning of jesus ministry now sure like in our own times today the bride and the family had dreamed of what a special day it would be for them their daughter or son surrounded by good friends good food and plenty of drink little did they know that disaster was at the footsteps they were running out of wine jesus is informed by his mother mary what is happening a disaster about unfold the dream of a lifetime to be shadowed but like a good son jesus eventually does obey his mother and her pleas and saves the day by changing the water to wine the celebration continues and jesus public ministry begins in the coming weeks we'll hear how jesus the incarnate word of god sets out on his mission to fulfill the promise of his father spreading the good news of hope and salvation he will gather disciples who will learn from him he will attract many who will follow and listen to him and as we know he will also cause others to become alarmed and feel threatened for he came to the people to a lifestyle found in love to lead him to a kingdom not made by human design but one where the lord governs his people with equity on this coming monday our nation will give pause remember the reverend dr martin luther king jr another person who had a dream and a mission sadly though he will more often be referred to simply as dr martin luther king jr which was martin luther king are mlk it's indeed said for it's a sign of secular forces that prefer to cancel any mention of god and the fact that indeed he was a clergyman following in the footsteps of his father a baptist minister he was a christian man his religion believes powerful forces that would guide him throughout his life he was an imperfect man though who nonetheless though spoke of the power of the spirit not only of god of justice and peace and hope but it was a powerful person that led humbly to champion throughout his journey albeit suddenly cut short at only 39 the dreadful day in april of 1968. several years ago while i was in washington dc i had the opportunity to visit the reverend dr martin luther king jr national memorial two large walls of granite metaphorical mountains of stand in front of a 30-foot high carved statue of reverend dr king it's entitled the stone of hope two walls of quotes are engraved with some of his most famous words i encourage you to visit someday if you can but there are more than memorial words etched in stone they are words that embrace the very word of god that challenges us as disciples today if i can repeat a couple of them darkness cannot drive out darkness only light can do that hate cannot drive out hate only love can do that if we are to have peace on earth our loyalties must become ecumenical rather than sectional our loyalties must transcend race and tribe and class and nation it means we must all work together in one world injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere whatever affects one directly affects all indirectly the ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience but where he stands at times of challenge controversy true peace is merely not the absence of tension but the presence of justice our lives begin to end the day we become silent by the things that matter we must develop maintain a capacity to forgive and life's most persistent and urgent question is what are you doing for others yes these are powerful words spoken by a man of faith and hope but they are more the memorial words etched in stone for they are words that embrace the word of god and shown by the ministry of jesus that we are called to follow as christians yes the reverend dr martin luther king is gone for now but his words live on they live on to a spirals with hope for a better days to come he has gone now but his words serve to guide us to where we and others need to be he is gone now but his example reveals a dream where words must become a reality and it reminds us that we are all have been created by equal and by god and so we shall be judged may we follow his example to sow love will we find hatred to bring light where there is darkness to bear true witness where there is deception bring hope where there is the spirit may we joint unite with others of faith throughout our nation and world to keep the dream for better days alive and may we never tire of working for justice and peace to bring to reality his dream where the person will be judged not by the color of their skin but on the content of their character okay i believe in my god true god true god begotten not made consubstantial with the father through him all things were made for us for our salvation he came down from heaven and by the holy spirit was incarnate of the virgin mary and became man for our sake he was crucified under pontius pilate he suffered death and was buried and rose again on the third day in accordance with the scriptures he ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand come again in glory to judge the living and the dead and his kingdom will have no end i believe in the holy spirit the lord the giver of life who proceeds from the father and the son who with the father and the son is adored and glorified who has spoken through the prophets i believe in one holy catholic and apostolic church i confess one baptism for the forgiveness of sins like a candidate in galilee the lord jesus mary and the apostles are with us in our eucharistic celebration aware of their presence we offer these prayers to god our father for christian unity that all may be one as jesus prayed let us pray to the lord whose command we celebrate these mysteries from the night he was betrayed he himself took bread and giving you thanks he said the blessing broke the bread and gave it to his disciples saying take this all of you and eat of it for this is my body which will be given up for you in a similar way when supper was added he took the chalice and giving you thanks he said the blessing and gave the chalice to his disciples saying take this all of you and drink from it for this is the chalice of my blood the blood of the new and eternal covenant which will be poured out for you and for many for the forgiveness of sins do this in memory of me the mystery of faith [Music] again therefore oh lord as we celebrate the memorial of the saving passion of your son his wondrous resurrection and ascension into heaven and as we look forward to his second coming we offer you in thanksgiving this holy and living sacrifice look we pray upon the oblation of your church in recognizing the sacrificial victim
