hi everyone guy from midwinter minis here this is episode seven of our black stone fortress speed fainting series aim to gain your box set painted up from the fast effective techniques and all using only 14 paints pennies here with me team yes hello team yep and this video guys gonna be painting the traitor guard models and we're all very excited so the first thing you want to do is split up the two identical squads of seven Guardsmen painting them all at once will crush your soul let me tell you that so for these tracer Guardsmen I'm quite keen on the idea of ions Skye style space Nazis Nazis classy that'll be cool really if I played all action I'd be painting up loads of Nazis yeah but you'd also be somebody who played bolt action so it's Warhammer bare I'll have my one anyway great uniforms aren't something you see often in 40k there's a bit of stigma about fielding grey plastic armies I think and people have an aversion to painting grey plastic with great paints but I think it'll look pretty cool in the end so to begin with I primed the models grey the first step you'll need to thin your black paint with the tiny touch of water and paint the faces the rocky bits their boots and their helmets the one part you have to be careful with is to try to keep the line in between the boots and their trousers clean when you're painting the helmets angle your brush down from the top of the helmet rather than going in from the sides and this way you won't accidentally hit any parts you don't mean to you and here's how they look with the black parts painted next use your brown paint to color all the parts that you want to be wooden so casings of the guns their handles the bludgeon and the pistol holsters [Music] and here's what they wear this is a guy with a flamethrower I have a wooden gun in the grim darkness of the far future there is only self-immolation next is your pale flesh time to paint their exposed skin mostly the hands but one of the last gun DS has snazzy fingerless gloves so just paint the exposed parts but also make sure to paint the two skulls on the base and shoulder spikes at the sergeant [Music] here's how things look with the flesh-tone painted and also I'm sure you've noticed by now that the music is different my good friend Gregor posted a cool instrumental thing on Instagram and was like oh guy I've just realized this is totally inspired by the soundtrack of your painting videos so I said he should make a track and I'll feature in a video so this is it maybe we should do a collaboration and what do you think Gregor comment on this video so I can pin it and we can publicly start our bromance any won't mind in fact I think it's very romantic anyway back to the painting sticking with the space Nazi theme the next thing we'll do is pick out the red accent parts thin your red paint with a tiny bit of water and start coloring the shredded capes their bandanas wraps and the lenses on the gas masks tried to paint something red on every model [Music] you've got red on him yeah yeah yeah mistakes happen and once you finish painting the red this is a great time to go back with your gray paint and cover up any areas where you've spilled your red your flesh tone or your Brown on the gray uniform and here's how everything looks once we've neatened up the base coats now makes a drop of white paints with a drop of brown paint then it's lightly with water and use this light brown to paint the fares that two of the models have this will give a bit of variety [Music] the flamer guy looks like he's been shot in eyes yeah is if it is a bit sloppy but we'll be doing some dry brushing scene they'll fix little bits like this first we use gray I had a drop of gray paint to an absorbent surface I'm using an MDF blank and start working the paint into the bristles of your dry brush and wiping off as much as you can last week a brush back and forth across the boots the rocks in the bases and their helmets you can't see this but when I has talked about dry brushing he was doing the little action with his hands once you're happy with how they look we'll do the same thing but with white paint and this time be very very sparing with the highlights on the boots and helmets we want to keep them nice and dark focus the white dry brush on the gray uniforms that red fabric wooden parts and the furs and here's what they look like after the white dry brush quite dusty as expected they'll look much more subtle soon before we move on to the wash stage let's paint the metal parts within your silver paint with a tiny touch of water and paint the metal parts of the guns the knives and blades and their belt buckles as well and the spikes on their armor [Music] also this guy's lovely little Spade again if you accidentally get silver on any gray parts quickly fix this with gray paint now if you can try to make it look like the gray is shadow once you're happy with all your base coats now it's time to start adding the washes first use your brown wash to shade all the flesh wood fur and red fabric parts [Music] once you finish with this stage you might want to leave it a few minutes dry before we move on to the black wash that they might start mixing together and ruining the effect if they're both wet maybe Basin Prime the other squad of seven Guardsmen while you wait when you're ready at the black wash to all of the black gray and silver areas of the models avoiding any just applied the brown wash tee [Music] and while you wait for the black brush to dry reinforce the black of the bases paint the rims of the base but avoid the rocky areas and the boots once I did the step I let them dry overnight and here's how they looked in the morning so I think you could call this be paint done here almost no detail work just some base coating dry brushing and washing and you've got some pretty awesome looking traitor guard now if you want to add a little bit more detail I'll show you how to do that in a moment before that please like this video to appease YouTube's algorithm and subscribe to show you a everlasting devotion dear Lord no that's out of the way makes your red paint with a little yellow sin it with water and use your detail brush to start highlighting the folds of the red fabric use the parts where the dry brushed white shows through as a guide as to where to paint the rich red [Music] also carefully added dot of this brighter red to the eye lenses on the gas masks next crack out your silver paints again but don't thin it with water this time you actually want it to be a little bit dry because we want to create some mottled rough texture on the metal gently add highlights to the metal parts pay particular attention to the edges of the blades and the top faces of the weapons you can also pick out any smaller parts and details if you feel confident enough with your brushwork like the buckles and buttons if you want also one dude has some tent pegs sticking out of his boots paint those two after those two slightly more detail steps I'm calling it a day on these space Nazi themed traitor guard I thought there was another seven I painted up the other seven using exactly the same method as the others but for this squad I didn't paint their helmets black I just left them as the gray primer in the game you'll often have two groups of these guys appear so an easy way to differentiate them is to give them different colored helmets to make it obvious which one's a which I'll paint the second squad with white helmets now if you want to paint it like this - I'll show you a quick and easy way to do it just thin your white paint with a little water and paint the helmets obviously now don't try to get them pure white in one coat she'll just end up really chunky looking but here's how they look after T 10 coats the camera doesn't quite do the brightness of these helmets justice but to thing coats definitely does the job Duncan Rhoads is right all along this sly dog now wear the helmets a dry mix one drop of black wash with one drop of brown wash and add two drops of water to make it much thinner now apply this thin wash all over the helmets and let it dry thoroughly now once it's dry just do it again basically this will make it look a little bit more weathered but hardly any effort again it's not super clear in the footage but the subtle wash has helped define the shape of the helmet and settled into the cuts and cracks and because their mana pose figures I snipped off some bits to make them look a little bit unique before I painted them a spike here a blade there just to give each model its own character if you've been following along with guys tutorials you'll now have 33 models painted that three-quarters of the way through in the next episode I'll show you how to paint the two rogue cycles people really like to a wiggly boys suggestion this megaphone cult this video there we got any keep names of these guys hideous right bye for now [Music]
