no preamps no anything this is how these microphones sound right out the box and that's why i want to do this i want to do this to give you guys exactly how the microphone sound because not everybody's an expert and an audio engineer but i do want you guys to hear the natural like sound of all the gear that i talk about on this channel which i think is fair i have experience with the sm7b but this microphone was fairly new so i really want to test it out for you guys it's not fair if i just open up a box and start talking about stuff when you give it to me oh that body baby whoo because we have a legend in the studio today and we also have a newcomer and i'm going to go over these microphones and we're going to go deep in y'all if y'all like the audio that y'all heard in the intro give me a thumbs up and tell me what you liked about it the most these microphones sound absolutely fantastic and today we are reviewing and discussing the short sm7b and also the newcomer the shure mv7 let's go [Music] so let's go ahead before we even start this video and get this out of the way yes for michael jackson's thriller album the sm7 was used on the majority of his vocals and my partner tc the songwriter he posted something it was insane with michael jackson the thrill of vocal arrangement and it sound great it sounded like an sm7 and this is the sm7b so before the correction police leave the precinct the sm-7 was used to record thriller and then of course years later they introduced the sm-7a which was basically an updated version a renovated version to the sm7 and then the sm-7b and 2001 which is definitely an update but they wanted to make a wider windscreen so this is the evolution this is the evolved version of the sm-7 that michael jackson recorded the thriller album on so let's get that out the way so don't y'all crank those police cars up yet correction police y'all stay at y'all precinct it's still an amazing sounding microphone it just captures so much warmth so much dynamics and it can take a beating y'all you can pretty much hit this thing with a lot of spl sound pressure level and of course over here the short is inspired by the sm7b but it is a microphone so what we're going to do guys we're going to basically talk about what's in the box and what comes in the box at each one of these microphones and then we're going to go over some key highlights that i think that are important when it comes to picking out a microphone and you guys let me know your thoughts and let me know what questions you guys have below when you purchase the microphone it doesn't come with the cable in the box it comes with the microphone and it comes with a windscreen yoke mount and is built within and also the xlr connection is actually on the stand as well it's a really nice build that is just not a lot of extra stuff it's all built on the microphone which is why i know a lot of people like it most podcasts you will see this microphone for the most part you guys hear it's flat it has a wide frequency response which is really great also the sm7b has internal air suspension and shock isolation all of it is built within this microphone and it is a really heavy duty microphone and like i said i've said some wild things in this microphone and just to see where the distortion would take place and i haven't been able to do it so the microphone type is dynamic the polar pattern is cardioid the frequency response is 50 to 20k i love to see dynamic microphones with that 20k at the top it's 150 ohms nice output impedance it has a low cut filter bass roll-off which is awesome i always like to have that option although when i use a microphone i just like to record it but it's great to always have that option just in case you want to roll off some of that bass and of course y'all it is xlr it's a little bit over one and a half pounds and this microphone is perfect for the podcaster the singer acoustic instrument adr radio it's a go-to vocal microphone it is a vocal king and it deserves to be called that now this newcomer right here is definitely worth the talk i like this too because right out of the box it has a broadcast kind of sound to it it's a little bit more muddier than the sm7b but it is equally as great if you don't want that much stuff around your studio usb powered and it also has an xlr connection on it there is no processing on anything everything is going directly into the audio interface directly into the camera no preamps no anything this is how these microphones sound right out the box and that's why i want to do this i want to do this to give you guys exactly how the microphone sound because not everybody's an expert and an audio engineer but i do want you guys to hear the natural like sound of all the gear that i talk about on this channel which i think is fair so according to shure it has a app that you can use which is called sure plus motif you can control so many things from there eq presets it also has compression presets and you can enable auto game which is a very new thing that just came on the scene i think that's a great tool for people that are just starting out that don't know everything about game they don't know everything about signal to noise ratio these tools are to help these tools are to help you learn help you move fast help your workflow and that's why i really appreciate when these tools come out sounding good has never been this easy and of course the mv7 is inspired by shure's premium and legendary broadcast microphones like the sm7b and this microphone is considered a usb dynamic microphone it's an all metal design it doesn't feel cheap at all remember i told you guys about the auto gain it has the auto level mode that can really contribute to you setting your levels properly and um being able to move fast through your workflow the polar pattern is cardioid and like i said i love when dynamic microphones have that 20 hertz to 20k that frequency responds this microphone is 20 20. just like your traditional condenser microphones but i hear that little boost in there in the mids and it sounds great too the max spl is 132 decibels and it also has high pass with presence boost and that presence is what gives you that great pronunciation right there in the top end you can use this microphone with mac with windows iso android and the weight is a little bit over one pound it's a little lighter than the sm-7b but um i can't really tell the difference and because i am a audio mad scientist i could definitely hear this used in vintage vocals or alongside a condenser microphone to add a add dimension to it i think this microphone is great for vocals any type of instrument with a barrel acoustic guitar the spl i wouldn't push it too hard like i'll push the sm7b but you can still push it a little bit with some loud instruments but i think this microphone is amazing and i do think that the sm7d is not too much you can say bad about it they're just great microphones i think that these are microphones that everyone should have in their home studio you should have at least one of these in your home studio and um and if you're doing a
