Solo Recovery Of HUGE Trailer Abandoned In The Desert!

the things I get myself into never ceased to amaze me so this right here this trailer was stolen quite some time back and been missing and uh then it was reported by someone that there was a trailer out here in the desert uh Sheriff's Department come out VIN number all that stuff found out it was a stolen trailer got a P the owner and now the owner and his insurance company have hired me to get the trailer back so we're out in the middle of the desert the highway is off over that way you might be able to hear at some traffic going by um and it is soft as you can see which is a problem now this is also a very very large trailer said it should weigh about 20,000 lb it's a toy hauler so it's got the bigger frame in it and all that stuff it's 40t long triple axle and here's the interesting thing somewhere out here cuz I saw it in one of the photos uh is the correct well guess not correct hitch for it so this part does not belong to this trailer you can see where what was on here was cut off with like a cut off wheel um and then this was put in its place this trailer had the adapter to gooseneck coupler a guy who owns it has Goos neck hitch and whoever stole it just cut that off and uh stuck a fifth wheel pin in there which doesn't matter for my part of it I can tell either way but um clearly they once they got off the road here I don't know where they thought they were headed cuz that's a packed Gravel Road right there kind of half-ass gravel road and they turned off right here and just I don't know where I thought they were going but they obviously got very very stuck got detached from it got out and look from the tire tracks They got out that way and got out of here but I don't know how long it's been sitting here a big trailer so now the issue is how do we get it out of here um I think I have a solution I brought my solution it's down there it's but first as we've learned from the past we make sure no is in here the owner was out here just yesterday looking at it so should be all good but um oh yeah they busted glass out of it partied in here oh that's all busted up back there what's up this way oh man busted the whole shower door out too here's the control center didn't check to see if this electric J jacks or not but good news is the slides here are all in I have to fight that and that sucks and I kind of wonder how much of the glass busted out of it was the people who stole it and how much of it was people out here throwing rocks and crap at it while I was sitting here it's like all these windows are busted [Music] trash okay no one's in it that's good nice change all right I'm going to um show you what my plan is so my plan is this is a two truck job uh we need to get it drugged back out of here and onto the road I think what makes the most sense is to back it out this way onto this gravel packed Road here and then back it all the way out to the highway and turn around out there to be able to leave there isn't enough room it almost looks like to go out this way but the only way we're backing it up into there is to swing all the way over into this tree with you know the truck in the front and I don't really want to do that it would make for a whole lot less backing up to the highway down this desert road but backing up it be fine the only issue with that is this stump right here might cause us some problem going to see if I can drag that out of the way some we'll see now I have big powerful record I can grab a hold of this thing and just drag it right up out of there get it on the road here no sweat at all but without something under the front of it we're going to rip those legs off drop the front of the ground and absolutely destroy this thing to get it out of there and I don't want to do that but luckily I also have a pickup with a fifth wheel hitch in the back so we can hook that up under this thing and get it out that way problem with that is the pickup is obviously going to be stuck right here just like the thieves were so that's an issue as well but that is why I towed my pickup out here with the Zack lift here on my Western Star and I backed it all the way in from the highway down here down to here cuz we've got a little turnaround spot here and my plan is this is the sacrificial piece kind of it's going to get stuck no two ways about it I plan on trying to get this around up in front of that thing and hooked into it I don't think I'm going to get back into it to hook into it but at least if I can get up in front of it before I get stuck in that super soft sand I can use the Zach lift to winch it back underneath that thing and get it locked into that fifth wheel then it is hopelessly stuck but it is a set of wheels underneath the front of that thing it's basically like my big dolly and then we use the Zach lift to pull that whole combination of truck and trailer back out of there this truck weighs 10,000 pounds I know people are going to say it doesn't but it does that should weigh about 20 so we'll have 30,000 lb stuck in the sand that the Zack lift is going to have to pull out that's my hope that that all works because if it doesn't my pickup is stuck out here in the desert so let's see how this goes so first order of business is to shovel all these holes smooth and kind of grade this out so I'm I have the best chance to get my pickup back into it and means I get to start shoveling okay so now we're going to try to get the pickup out there and backed into it and this is not going to go well because that is extremely soft and these are 195 tires they're they're super stiff they're very narrow they don't flex at all and airing them down for the soft sand won't do any good because they are so stiff and narrow that by the time you air down enough for them to actually start doing anything they're going to be off the bead so these are probably the worst tires for that terrain if I was really thinking about this I would have robbed the 37s off of my uh silver Dodge and put on this one for this job that truck doesn't have a fifth wheeel hitch so I couldn't use it but if I had it's 37s on this truck which they will fit they've been on it before and then aired way down it actually be my best bet of doing this I probably should have done that [Music] I got bad news uh I hooked up power to the uh battery cables in there they stole the batteries out of course hooked up power to it and uh the Jacks still won't work so I got to see if I can crank them by hand so the Jacks aren't cooperating uh that handle I got it in there turned I got I got I don't know half a dozen dozen turns out of it and then it just bound up I don't think they're all the way down but it bound up completely it won't go anymore I can't move it so that's an issue and it's time for a new plan he for the record I am not at all thrilled about the idea of putting that truck into this soft sand where I did that's a bad idea let's hope for the best but I did some more digging around on these Jacks here and they are bent up in there so they're already bent the Jacks are already damaged they're not they're not going to function again you can actually see it in this one almost fell where it goes like that in there so the Jacks Are the Jacks aren't going to do us any favor so so we're going to forget the Jacks and we're going to use our Jack and we're going to do something that might damage what is left of those things but we don't have a whole lot of other options and if those are already damaged and not working and we finish them off and that's the worst thing we do out of all this i' be okay with that [Music] we're going to get all the elevation we can get out of this we want to be see if we can drag it over and up some enough TR I and get the pickup into it that might actually get us on some fresher ground too and kind of help out there as well if it falls down off the jacks or folds them under that'll be okay because then we can just scoot it over to us on the folded up Jacks and uh then lift it and get the pickup under it [Music] so that's what we're looking to work with at the moment we're going to crack that's we'll see that's going to crack [Music] get this all the way up okay this slid up to the top it did cool all right that's what I was afraid of it's going to sink down and close that door put some slack in the line [Music] come on let's picking up yeah now we're talking okay now I got to shovel over here we can do that I'm betting by the time we're all set and done we're going to be over in this area with this side of the truck so that's why I'm going to do this right here that might actually set us up better for swinging this thing out of here too should be nice okay we do got to watch that stump there we don't want to twist the axles out of this thing okay Jacks are in the air so let's see if I can crank them down some more now except for this thing's in the way I got a little bit more no nope so let's put this here think I can get my truck to it there let's see we need to go about 6 to 8 in higher we are locked in yeah that is not solidly mounted so we'll have to keep that in mind I might stick another bolt in the back there before we tow this thing down the road but that's a win all right let's bring this down we got all our weight now so this thing has three of the bolts in it's missing one which that's that's tolerable for what we're doing my kind of thought is if we twist and Jank and rip and Pull and get this thing out of here and that doesn't come apart it's not going to come apart going down the road that's my thought [Music] [Laughter] [Applause] [Applause] [Applause] what I got to say I am very happy and pleasantly surprised with how well that truck went in and out of that sand right there uh that truck does not have lockers in it which it really should for what I do with it and that was a really risky move to do without lockers so Western Star if if you're watching this that's in the ground still okay so the Jacks in the back are down and there's no tool to raise them take some weird funky little thing that's not here so we're going to forget about that we're going to put this up this is where the fuel tank should be no this is electric somewhere on this thing should have a fuel tank there it is and clearly it's been opened and siphoned out just like I figured it would be oh that's not going to shut cuz that lock is locked so battery compartment will close up you see they stole the batteries and for some reason they cut the cables this is the main power onoff switch they cut the cables I don't know why they would do that but they did that they didn't do it to steal the copper cuz it's all still sitting here so another one that's not going to lock because key is still there the Jacks went up as far as they'll go up they won't go any further than that which is an issue but it's an issue to be figured out later that's all jacked up okay so I'm going to hook up some winch lines grab the back of this thing and start winching it out and then I'll I will be in the truck running the remote while that truck is back there doing the pulling we're going to have to really really watch this in the back of my cab as we twist and move out of here because a short bed truck is not meant to pull a trailer like this luckily I do have the sliding fifth wheel that slides it back a foot or 18 in whatever it is gives me that much more room otherwise this would already be sitting right here and basically wouldn't be able to pull off this maneuver so we're going to use our Blue Line um because I need to respool that blue uh rope up there anyway so using the blue line with some tension on it just what we need we're going to take [Music] this and we're going to grab this and we're going to go over here and I love the synthetic guys are probably tired of hearing me say that but I've pulled so much steel cable stuff is a [Music] dream now luckily here this is a toy hauler oh man go through there but toy haulers have much beefier frames than standard travel trailers cuz they're made to carry Cargo in addition to the Box on top of them so look under here this is all much more substantial see it's got all this bracing and it goes a bunch of it in there so much more sub not like Strong by any means but much more substantial than like your standard RV trailer so okay let's lock this thing in and see what we can [Music] do we don't want to take all the weight off the tires cuz the tires are our grip right here we just want to stabilize make sure that swivels like it needs to oh yeah all right I'm going to go get in my pickup and start getting this thing out of here I holy crap phase two actually worked we've got it on the road now we've got to figure out how to get it out of the desert so we got the zacklift put away and now we're taking a walk here to see if I can spin this thing around in this campsite right here while it's hooked to the pickup and get it facing the other way I'm not 100% sure I'm debating hooking onto the front of my truck with the Zack lift and towing that whole combo out of here or getting the trailer back out to an accessible Point backed into a spot off the road unhook it and uh uh maybe I won't do that cuz the jacks won't work never mind I think I'm just going to tow it all out of here as a combo so actually maybe right here would work yeah I could probably do that but almost guarantee you someone stole the bag out of the back of someone's car came up here pford through it looking for stuff look at these tracks this trailer was back here at some point this is this is from that trailer so it was back here I can I can definitely make that swing and come out here spin this thing around they had it right here I wonder if they came out here and tried living in it or something I don't know how long it was missing for maybe they came out here parked it there tried living in it stole other people's stuff went through that too kind of Base camped out here here and then well if they' come straight out that road right there they' have shot straight across who knows you can't you can't logic Tweakers you try to go through the logic of what happened and just throw logic out the window cuz that's one rule you can't logic a tweaker so let's go see if we can make this Loop now we got to be very careful not to hit the cab that is a problem with toing it with this truck hook du is that cab will not clear this trailer in a sharp turn it's a big Branch come on sneak through oh yeah once we get past the axles of the trailer start to move away from that don't hit me well here it is all done out on the Jacks I got those straightened out they're working good now not with battery power but you know you can crank them and all and the pins work in them uh it is staying here for the next hour or so I don't know why I looked at my wrist like I'm wearing a watch I've never worn a watch in my life but uh the owner is going to come get it from here with his pickup since it's like towable and works and they weren't thinking that was going to be the case so he's going to come pick it up from here uh I just put it right here it's easy to back ride and hook to we're down the road quite away from where it was stuck but far enough away from the highway where no one will see it right here until he gets here like I said it should be about an hour he'll be here um I live just right down the road over here so I won't be far away if he needs any help getting it hooked back up but either way there's his RV no additional damage plenty of previous damage unfortunately but at least it's towable it's fixable and he gets his RV backs so I've got my pickup hooked back up to the Zack lift here I'm very impressed and surprised with how well both of these trucks did in that soft sand the black one I didn't think would actually even get to the uh the trailer my thought was that I'd hopefully get it out in front of it close enough that I could winch it back into it luckily it did much better cuz there was a lot more maneuvering that needed to be done to get it hooked
