now see this is the kind of content you just can't find on television laying in the snow using a torch to preheat your engine block so your JB Weld will stick [Music] now don't let the nice sunny Clear Day fool you winter is just about upon us and I'm doing every necessary thing to be prepared for cold weather and snow so what I went ahead and did is bought another project now what we've got here is a 1971 Ford f600 she's an absolute Cherry Beast because this is probably one of the nicest F6 hundies I've ever seen around and uh it's just uh an absolute gem it's got a PTO driven dumping flatbed there's a big hydraulic ram under there to make all that happen so we're already looking at a nice utility set up there she's an old Fairbanks truck it's been sitting since 1992. so you know just about like everything else I pick up sitting for a while and who knows what's wrong with it but I mean Super straight Solid Truck not really beat up which is surprising for something of this uh capabilities back in the day they got worked hard and not many people took care of stuff uh fun fact this truck came from the same property I got the 1943 GMC cckw six by from so um that's cool saved another one from that property but uh we'll go ahead and listen to those nice bump side noises as we open the door here needs a good cleanup but you know the seat seat ain't bad it's got the stock tank behind the seat and then it's got an add-on tank on the side here and you can see it's got the old select valve right there we've got uh PTO and hoist controls here I mean pretty low mileage truck not much wear on the pedals looks like and uh super nice and solid we've got the unique f600 gauge cluster so that's kind of cool we've got the good old four speed with a two-speed rear axle and a handbrake it's got the radio option and you know all kinds of various things on the floor it looks like we got a set of tire chains for it so that is absolutely sweet and it's kind of cool that it's blue like the 69 High boy out back I always like this color on the bump sides and it's also cool to own the big truck version of the pickups now it's actually the same cab same Hood um only difference is the fenders are bigger and of course the Grille because for the larger Wheels but uh these cabs will go right on the pickups and a lot of guys actually put this gauge cluster in the pickups to kind of you know give them something unique but this truck was also up in the mining country as you can see it's filled with silt and sand and such like the six by is but overall bump side doors overall not bad uh tires seem all right I had to put air in the outside dual here the inside one was just spewing out water so might have to address that but we're not going to worry about it it's got a nice Kenworth mud flap on this side nice custom uh tow bar here with guarded tail lights and then you see more sand and silt there from the Mayan country big old heavy duty rear end 's not too bad could probably be uh redone at some point but decent came with some various junk on the back along with World War II Jeep wheels so that's always good and she's got this uh nice side box here [Music] oh and we've got you know lug tools a chain binder some chain and these really cool roadside markers so that's neat and what a nice little storage box here I mean it's pretty heavy duty and stout if we look under here there's all the two speed action and then looking up there's the hydraulic ram for the dump and it's actually set up you can lock it and pin it so you don't have to worry about the bed moving around or anything so that's kind of neat Mufflers just kind of hanging there going for it foreign like the other side nice and solid and straight over here no rust really nice shape we'll have to uh do some archeology and go through the glove box and see what kind of paperwork we can find oh yeah and I forgot to show the old school instructions up there pretty neat that door needs some uh WD-40 on it for the latch but we've got a custom hood release Here those need WD-40 also climb up here now what we've got here is a 361 ft series motor this is basically the industrial version of the Ford FE which uh is what all my pickups have I have the 360 Fe in most everything and then the 67 Outback has a 352 but this is the Ft basically the same motor just you know um larger cooling capacity and uh oil passages and Galleries and such so I mean pretty much the same but um you never really hear much about these I've never really heard you know bad things about them but you don't hear much about them as far as uh people swapping them into the pickups or anything but she pretty well looks all here nice and greasy like a usual Ford V8 but should run it's not stuck it's got uh power assist steering on it got the box up there kind of oily in in the front here like something was leaking but you know we'll just go through her and check the vitals and such before we try and start this thing and figure out what it needs but overall definitely a nice rig super happy with it and uh I think she's gonna be a good one just give it a good wash up and get all this junk off of it and probably look pretty sharp again the tires don't seem too bad all the way around but like I said that one might need a tube or whatever but tires themselves seem all right of course we got the big uh Dayton style rims with uh multi-piece lock Rings here better look at that custom setup there I see it had the usual old Ford battery hold down now something about this rig and and going back to when we got the six by running uh the guy drained the coolant out of the six by it looks like he did this one too so um it seemed like he took care of things so I'm pretty confident in this one being all right of course it might have been parked uh because something went wrong we don't know that yet and we'll find out when we dig into it but you know it just goes to prove this guy took care of stuff because this truck is really nice just like the six by so we'll go ahead and you know probably push her up to the shop get it closer to the tools and resources and we'll start digging into it and have some fun [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] foreign [Music] [Applause] thank you all right got her up in front of the shop here let's go ahead and dive into it but first things first we're gonna take care of this because they're just not that great oh yeah some more of that and we'll be back in business all right so before we open anything up here we'll just take some compressed air and get all this leaves and junk off here so it doesn't get down the carb or into the distributor or anything [Music] it's pretty cool how this thing's mostly original looking under here not altered too much feels like it's still got oil in it carburetor doesn't look too bad up here seems to be it Motorcraft 2100 manual choke on it gotta love that so now with the air cleaner out of the way we'll just pop the cap off and have a look in here foreign looks pretty nice in there a little bit of corrosion but not bad rotor looks fine this little piece out of here oh man like new look at that pretty darn clean and nice looking in there not much corrosion on the points either we'll uh run some memory cloth on them for good measure and then clean these terminals up a little bit because you can see the slightest amount on them and then that'll give us the best chance for having spark it probably does already without even touching it but we'll just give it a a good measure treatment here and we shouldn't have any issues take some Emery cloth and fold it open the points and stick it in between them and just give it a good clean now I'll take our cap and clean up each terminal in it now something else we can check real quick is we can grab the fan and rotate this Beast over by hand and just make sure the points open and close and look good on each lobe there see they open right there and then we'll close once they get off that high spot give you guys a better look here go off to the next lobe and they'll open like so and then close so we'll just kind of go all the way around and make sure it's good and then at the same time we can make sure the motor feels all right by hand before we throw power to the starter make sure it's got no tight spots or it's going to lock up or at some point or anything so we'll do that real quick well Everything feels fine going around a couple times by hand so I think we're good to button it up here and our rotor looks all right so we can leave it alone slap it back in there with our cap to line up with the Notch and lock her down there we go now we'll go ahead and pull all eight spark plugs out we'll look at the condition of those and then we'll throw some oil in the cylinders that way you know we're not dealing with dry cylinders the Rings can kind of seal up against them again then we have a good shot at getting compression and making this thing go foreign not a lot of folks do before they get a rig running that's been sitting a long time so I like to take the extra time and do it just seems to help them out first plug out here doesn't look too bad so we'll just keep on moving through them and see what they all look like here got this side out same with this side over here and they all look about the same not too bad but uh we'll take them all in and wire brush them up on the grinder in there and then we'll throw some automatic transmission fluid down each cylinder then we'll hook up power and crank it over with the plugs out that way we can get things uh cycling in the cylinder is good with out the plugs being in and you know just wanting to build compression we can cycle everything in and then any excess oil that's left can just get shot out that way it doesn't foul the plugs and then we'll keep on moving so on and so forth got our plugs cleaned up so those are good to go now we'll grab our ATF and squirt a little bit into each cylinder cylinders are all oiled up so we'll just prep for our battery now clean up connections something about old Fords and battery connections go together fishing they like to be clean all right see if we get any smoke tests going on here it's nothing so far hold on let me grab a hammer real quick hammer just before we crank on it let's check the oil real quick nice and dark and dirty but it's there so I think we're good to leave that until we find out if it runs or not then we'll change it and give it all the nice treatment also needs to be welded back onto the bracket it's been broke off do the responsible thing and make sure it's not in gear before we try and crank it over all right we're back out here now starter solenoids there and this is the signal wire from the key inside the cab so basically what we're going to do is not need the key and we're going to bypass it and just do everything out here so what you do is you connect this terminal to the positive side and basically replicate what the key does internally to the solenoid and it activates the starter so let me just cross it here and we'll see how good of a crank we can get [Music] kind of a panic kind of a pain to keep them on there sometimes but uh she's Wheeling over pretty good I don't know what that clunking sound is you can see we're getting a little bit of ATF out each plug hole there give it some more and listen to it sounds like it's up front here so what we're going to do is uh ignore that and make it run and see what happens so we'll throw the plugs back in and we'll see if we got Spark plugs are all back in left one wire off so we can stick another plug in there and check for spark but go ahead and turn the key on works from in here foreign we'll go ahead and pop this cap back off real quick and take the coil wire off put it somewhere nice and grounded oh come on it's only probably 30 40 years old it's it wants to go that should jump foreign driver it's kind of oh yeah I see it jump in there so the coil works that's all back together now and we've got a test plug grounded out there so we'll just crank it over with the solenoid again Key's still on we'll see if we have a spark at this plug foreign so it's not getting spark I clean the points up again kind of screwed around with them not really getting anywhere into town got some new points they didn't have a condenser typical Napa nonsense but I should have some condensers laying around so I guess we'll go ahead and change the points out see if that does it and if not we'll swap a condenser because I've probably got one on the Shelf I've got New Old Stock Motorcraft points on the Shelf as well but they're for the pickup Distributors and not the heavy duty industrial because apparently the points are different between the two so now that I've got the right ones we can pull these out and swap them foreign now with those Point screws still loose we'll bring the lobe up there and adjust them so right on a lobe take this little Notch here and move them foreign and kind of keep them set here when you tighten them down normally you do this with a feeler gauge we're just going to do it by eye looks like they've got a good Gap bring it down off of a lobe and see how they look make sure they close like that looks good so we'll button this thing back up get our wires put back on and see if that did it well still no spark so we'll swap the condenser out I've got a used one from the Shelf I think it's a good working one I can't remember so we'll just have to find out got the condenser swapped out so we'll go ahead and try it again here see if that did the trick got spark still don't like that noise up here but we're gonna go ahead and send it so get ready here and see if she'll go now foreign that's better see if we can get the ball filled up here so it'll actually stay running foreign crank it from inside where I can actually work the throttle and starter a little bit more easier I'm gonna try that [Music] foreign a little bit there so I stopped what I was doing I was gonna come out and rig up something to the fuel pump and see if we can actually get it to run off a fuel rather than you know trying to Prime this big motor with a little bit of gas at a time and only getting short spurts out of it and uh was walking over I heard something dripping and I seen this oil all over the ground so I crawled under and you know started looking around it's all over the pipe and everything and then I found that I had to take a minute and evaluate the situation so I would say we found out why she got parked and you know it's kind of sunk into the ground where I bought this thing from so there was no crawling under it to inspect it and you know who would have thought there'd be a hole in the block and there's all kinds of good oil going on up front here too so I would say that that little knock we're hearing might have something to do with that so I guess she's gonna need an ft series motor to drop in the place of this one I wonder how much oil we're rapidly losing in just that short amount of time yeah quite a bit there that's good well I put the air cleaner back on and buttoned this thing up so I guess it'll just have to wait till he can find another motor and swap it out then we can see what the truck does you thought I was gonna give up that easy huh it's been a couple weeks since we messed with the old truck and as you can see there's all this white stuff everywhere yeah winter kind of hit us full on so that's neat but that's the way it goes up here in the north but you know if you were thinking with the same mindset that I have which uh that could be a dangerous combination there if you were thinking just uh slapping some JB Weld on that block and sending it and see what happens you're exactly right that's what we're gonna do so let's get after it gotta clean up our work area here foreign we're all set up here first thing we'll do is just start cleaning the oil off and prepping it brake clean is good for it a little wire brush action probably wouldn't hurt either here's our method of Madness got a chunk of cardboard to mix the JB Weld on and I figure take this handle this plastic spoon and we can use that to applicate it in there but first we're going to take this torch we're going to heat up that spot on the Block so that the JB Weld has a better chance of sticking to it now see this is the kind of content you just can't find on television laying in the snow using a torch to preheat your engine block so your JB Weld will stick yeah who knew we'd be going to an arts and crafts Channel that's like the right amount even oh we get to sculpt it out now this really is an arts and crafts Channel now well I'd say that's a top-notch job all right there you have it we're gonna let that JB Weld fully set up and cure before we try and run this now the whole point of patching up that hole in the block is so that we don't lose oil at a very rapid rate running it and then uh you know we run low on oil and seize everything up because it's got no oil in it as for the Rod or whatever is loose in there partying around we're just going to leave it be if it's going to blow up it's going to blow up who knows it may just uh make a lot of noise in there not do anything at all so we might as well find out give this old motor a proper Revival and send off just in case and uh you know when she decides to quit we'll throw another motor in it but till the next video when we can fire it up and see what happens thanks for watching and I'll see you guys later [Music] foreign [Applause] [Music]
