I really liked the live prawn stall at Old Airport Road. I tried it once coz there wasn't any queue which I didn't understand coz there were newspaper cuttings and all. The aunty is nice and polite and the broth was really good.

[Music] [Music] [Applause] [Music] good morning may here a few days and I haven't stopped on my favorite Hawker Center so gotta make that trip and today's really cool because I'm gonna be joined by some of my friends who hasn't really been exposed much to Singapore Hawker culture Hawker food I figured this is a great place to start and if you don't know already I'm at the old airport row of Hawker Center probably my favorite Hawker Center and all of Singapore this place and in the homeland in Chinatown basically if I move to Singapore and I get one Hawker centers to look close to this will probably be it I'm so sad that's closed so depressing now I'm navigating a hawker centre in Singapore I don't feel like it's really difficult you just walk around and see where the locals line up again the best lower me place here is unfortunately closed today for this place is also really good what [Music] my first time in Singapore I came to Tommy fried quail and this gentleman cooks at a very traditional way each time ingredients goals into the wok it's only one serving per plate it's not like just a big wok complete I'll separate into different place we get his own divided attention to every single order all right so a couple of the most iconic dishes in Singapore start you off so you didn't have this system no I don't think I've had you do these things and I've been here for a week there's so much food here yeah there's so much different stuff between marks and I also love it's so good it's turn up to Simon Gerrans yes it's not carrots it's not cake you got a reserved seats in Singapore hit on that no you buy one of these right and you plop it down on a seat that's how you're gonna serve season it's really like you came and put like a camera there he's got a plug one on those tissues so this is like rich gooey noodles so dig in and you're gonna see like some of the craziest gooiest murals oh my gosh they're so densely covered I thought this is a soup and it really was more like a sauce yeah it's like it's like a noodle soup almost it's filled to the brim with ingredients so there's a lot of addition it's like a dry fish head so this is like all gooey noodles yeah give it a shot man Wow a little bit sweet noodles are great there's sort of a there's an egg noodle right these are the regular traditional noodles usually they have like a couple different times noodles in here when the noodles are together they almost make like a bubble between they how they stick see the it's really good right now I'm mainly getting the sweet notes because we're just now mixing up all this oh look at all this minced garlic and chili did you neat thank you this is like really satisfying bumper protector it's almost like a sugar serum and how thick it is it's gonna stay in your body for a while oh yeah but try it with a fish because the fish with this they fry the fish and it's got such a great texture especially without little head up in a girl on a student will mommy of this dish like when I first saw this outside I'm eating clue it is like glue no good it's so you said gooey noodles I think it's more like gooey is like such a bigger word even the noodles it's B 5 what's your ticket to the richness there's nothing like it anywhere in the world like it's so freakin even eat that's right the fish is really great this is crunchy and salty and really offsets the sweet Dew of everything else yeah I would a two hours to have this personal 900 yeah that's how you knew it was yeah Oh when you came here there was a line out the door of people winner for this dish this is the Frito pie guy said really I can be completely different than that [Applause] now I know you don't drink what I drink this is excellent hangover breakfast food yeah it's just hot you're right you can taste the skillet it's like when in America you've got like a burger place it's been using the same so over time forever it's like that with these noodles the distance of public retail is tasting the fire basically the noodles are different a lot of eggs a lot of seed pudding hair but flavor is much lighter I feel like there's much more of a sound like an aromatic presence in this dish really does you taste the physical heat that lime juice this is I stir it up a little bit it's got calamansi inside it's like a it's like a Southeast Asia everywhere I didn't know [Music] without that's just the right amount of parts offset how sweet it is what's crazy about the hunger culture though in Singapore is that it's changing in the next five to ten years because you see all these guys who are cooking they're in their 60s sometimes 70s and 80s they're not gonna keep going for much longer and the younger generation are not all taking over it's a lot of these places it's done oh wow that's area yeah so the food entire food scene in Singapore right change yeah so that's why I like coming here so much just to get it I got it she had everything you can before the average salera roll so another place I ate at first time in Singapore they do uh nasi Brioni I sold live flan and noodles are amazing here but there's only a few place that uses like really live prawns so it's basically well they call tank to table so it's live right down here [Music] how's that buddy oh my gosh this is salty rich fatty so tender so beautifully just porky and that sweet barbecue sauce is just very delicious because this tastes so kind of close to an American barbecue experience but different enough we're like oh this would be audible for them and also blow their mind dad the best Chinese barbecue ever had that is easily the best Chinese barbecue I'm always underwhelmed by Chinese barbecue and I didn't even get it I mean there's only so much of it in America it's probably not the best but this I totally get it you got tons of stuff here so this is a live Rhonda I never had this before oh wow first time I'm having it's a good mild flavor huh I was gonna say it smells or Febby than it tastes oh my god that's it oh do try the bra Wow good start it's really good trip Ron I haven't been to Prague to be a little too fishy and just a little to mommy for me this is like the chicken noodle soup of shrimp broth it is perfect this is better than I thought it was gonna be ever be which is incredible Brock she was asking she like you won you nose in the broth if you want to sound like what do you think she's like give it outside she can taste the broth on its own I know we're just take a spoon [Music] yeah dude like took a noodle soup with shrimp that's some flavor is so fresh [Music] get that subtle sweet flavor from the shrimp in the broth I mean it's way better than the noodles those are good but it's not like that check this out though five major massive prawns ten Singapore dollars so things like they're so sweet like a bite of this in a sip of broth then that stuff's been there a while so the ladies told me it's a third-generation recipe been our family for like generations I loved all the food up out here it's been super fun and adventurous but this is like immediately rose to the top of the ranks yeah that Tyler shop yeah them together is really what's doing for me we got one more of an you know coming and this noodle is it's something I fell in love with last time I was here like completely fell head-over-heels over last time I was here I said I would I will come back specifically for this noodle so hopefully as still as good as I remembered it but then you're kind of nervous you're like whatever what a change no that's like a like a little curvy airship you know always the beer when you have something amazing and come back a year later if it's gonna be as amazing there's always a beer well back at the fresh prompt face this guy's just amazed by what an amazing way to cook to literally go from the tanks that it takes a minute to finish off in a broth just to get that last little stewing nice we can set our disobey is that all these hawker stalls how they how they operate central area how they make one edition its that are still making consistently perfect dishes so the tragedy was I thought they were gonna to get it to love her but apparently they weren't and it's been sitting under stall but like the last half an hour that's that it taste is good it is just a little warm there's still a little heat and hasn't fully disappeared I just don't don't but still good Wow I think it's like butter or some kind of like creamy yummy it definitely has a fat on those noodles oh man this should make it better just to sleep in a citrus oh do you love a little citrus let's add a vinegar oh yeah please vinegar black vinegar is just finishing it is the greatest thing I don't know why it's not on every table everywhere seriously it's just the best condiment well that woke it up that's right if it was near dead because of how long I've been sitting there and just got resuscitated and it's back to life the love is still there that little bit of citrus it doesn't even taste citrusy it is just like it brought out the other flavors to be returned that's the happy and last time I came here I remember waiting like minimum two hours right it's still good I just wish it was like straight out of the walk good well I think that best work is the best thing about here there you go I've made sure to hit a mic turn up when I knew he was gonna be in town I was like oh I don't know where to go oh yeah there's a lot of food here and there's a lot of good food there's a lot of great food yeah but I know that there's pearls of an unbelievable food and if anybody knows where it is in the whole world it's you amen I appreciate that and I'm probably guys had a good meal set yeah it was too much food if you like this you can come check out a much more subpar version of the try guys eating a bunch of different food but we had a great time in Singapore to check that video out also we just always have concert coming out I think also coming up this winter we're doing a whole holiday sprint so we're gonna have an eat the menu again a competition a ranking that's all holiday themes guys weather I guess I've been lucky this is the rainy as I've seen Singapore since I got here that's why there's hawker stalls instead of you know just regular food stands out in the open I'm at the homeland food center because the restaurant want to go just that open yet open in about half an hour so I want to go ahead and grab some wonton noodles by away I feature this place last time if you were in Singapore and I do recommend coming very soon because it's like this when when this gentleman retires he's been cooking for decades when he retires that's it I mean there's no more it doesn't exist in there that's why the line is so huge every single day you got to come and try this plays out reasons sixty thousand nine hundred eighty-one why I love Singapore is you really don't need to research that much maybe go into a hawker centre right there's tons of these all over the country just go to the places with the longest lines usually that's the best place [Music] you become here since 18 years old now 18 years old and it has the poutine has the flavor changed same good flavor that's testimony Justin is awesome he just stopped by you got me the algorithm heart weights out dude thank you so much man oh my god I get to have this one last time before I leave Singapore I'm so so happy so these are pork noodles I love Singapore pork noodles throw some chilies in there the way these are made it's pretty similar everywhere I've been different cuts of pork some pork liver slices of pork minced pork and also some dry crispy fish and it's usually served with pork meatballs and wonton and this soup oh so good ain't trying to win some aesthetically pleasing food award here and they're just going full-on for flavor huge porky flavor I love the little crunchy bits of pork crackling in here and also little bits of seaweed that soaks up with that great broth this thing definitely needs some hot oil and since they don't have it I got some chilies with a little bit of soy and I wish I could have some Chinese vinegar here it's too oh yeah oh that made it so much better those of you guys who you're not really not into organs this might be too much for you because you get a lot of little bits of pig liver and you did with a side of dry noodles that is all sorts of marvelous I need another serving of this spicy soy sauce welcome to the party little chillies what you're tasting it's like almost like a watery fatty holding all over these noodles and that's all from the pork fat are so bloody amazing do what I just did come here add some chillies add some of their special sauce to this that just made this even better mmm this stall is all about the pork and it shows I mean no vegetables inside the app the wonton filling just more pork the meatball pure pork meatballs the only thing not pork related here is these little crunchy fish this is one of the most aggressive and bacony breakfast combos I've ever had if you love your bacon as much as I do you're gonna go hog wild for this [Music] sugarcane juice when you're in Singapore or Southeast Asia you gotta have some sugarcane juice by the way if you don't know started my own sugarcane juice lime information is down below and this is a very substantial breakfast for ten single four dollars about eight bucks you get all this towards the end I like to drop some of the soup into my noodles make it a little noodle soup so I mix all the sauce on the bottom with that great raw [Music] after all that for dessert that's great Oh in Singapore from the master himself each water cooked individually shoe types of noodles little bits of sprouts for some crunch eggs little clams probably my number one recommendation for those of you who are coming to Singapore for the first time one bike we chased a history he chased a craftsman Shepherd all that hard work that dedication goes into every single bite you take this is by far my favorite great talent Singapore this is the combination of the shop needle for the crunchy sprouts everybody tastes the wok and taste up fire but being able to put it together having it taste the way it does I wouldn't call him a chef I call him a master it's a couple days ago I was at another hawker centre and I ran into a man this is his grandmother's stall brainy's painting so they are selling in this hawker centre and it's some kind of stuck pancake and stuff with peanuts red bean coconut peanut butter these are just really spongy cakes so this one has a coconut stuff in there I almost got a mochi as keel 2 it does have like a really fancy chewy slightly mochi texture to it it's absolutely delicious look at this this looks like a food mattress the cakes are subtly sweet really Airy it doesn't fall apart like an angel cake where I like a pound cake granny if you're watching this is amazing great job I got a coconut I got a red bean and I got a peanut butter and they're made to order so these are piping hot off the stove this is like just the most amazingly gooey and crunchy mochi pancake ever if you love a peanut butter sandwich upgrade to this you gotta eat this one it's one repetition I think for me it's the peanut butter I'm here tried - peanut butter one how to get out that food court before the large crowd came in the next but what's just gonna talk about yeah the next place I'm going to is a buffet restaurant is called annalakshmi Indian buffet here in Singapore what was unique about this place is that there's no set price so you can pay however much you want well unless you come with more than ten people apparently [Music] [Music] got some bring go ah Sivan G some I love potluck and they make fresh dosas here and also puffy bread the solution itself is not a lie you got your typical stuff rice got a couple dessert items and it is of all vegetarian buffet mmm I know I'm a complete communitarian but when it comes to Indian food when I went to India has so many dishes that were just a vegetarian dish as I've said if I was ever to become a vegetarian India will be the country I go to you because as pie has the best-tasting vegetarian dishes and right here this chana masala is out of this world which should be just cooked so well without great spices from the masala freshly made dosa [Music] oh I don't know what this is but this little pickle dish with onions and garlic extra little teeny little tomato II a little bit of cumin that Joseph cooked perfectly I love the part where there's a slight bit of crunch my food is superb yello-ha lock which is potatoes with spinach there may be just a few dishes up there but everything is quality stuff and what's crazy is that this place everything is cooked by volunteers so it's really great if you are somebody in need you can come here enjoy a really good meal for a very affordable price so when you finish your meal you walk up to the cash register they're gonna ask you how much you want to pay I think I've paid 15 which i think is pretty typical but all in all it was really good meal now I'm on my way to there's a Dorian cafe to open up in Singapore so I wanna check that smelly place out for some reason the Dorian cafe is shut down I don't know why but can always rely on this place this is always a reliable dessert option tons of traditional Chinese desserts got some grass chili with a tub seats if you never had autopsy's before the most amazing things ever and then I have some ginger mochi balls and the grass jelly is one of those things that is really gonna help you keep cool in the summer because there's a cooling food item she's a little Irby so I'll be prepared for that but yeah couple sips already to feel your body start cooling down that's spicy by the way I always love me some mochi ball so if you want to follow me
