Hello and welcome back to Quirk Analysis 101
the series where I give you a detailed rundown on the quirks in the world of My Hero Academia. In the last video, I discussed the ability
that belongs to Mr. Sunshine, Smiley Boy, clothing-optional, you may be strong but he's
(stronger!) Mirio Togata, and his peculiarly powerful
quirk that is Permeation! In today’s video, I will be re-discussing
the quirk that belongs to the coldest hot stuff of class 1-A, senior sexy exhale, my
dad hits me harder than you ever could, half and half boy Shoto Todoroki a.k.a Shoto. Wait a minute Todoroki doesn’t have a hero
name? Why isn’t there more of an uproar about
this? Oh, it's probably because the most realistic
name to give him would be Luke Warm! But before I begin don’t forget to Detroit
smash that like button and slide on into the subscribe buttons DM’s to hit that notification
bell. Now without further ado, let's flash freeze
our way on over to the chillingly charred Frosty Flame quirk that is Half-Cold Half-Hot. Half-Cold Half Hot is a long-range Emitter-type
quirk which first appeared in chapter 11 of the My Hero manga and episode 8 of the anime. This quirk grants its user the ability to
generate ice, frost, and cold from the right side of their body and fire, flames, and heat
from the left, making them half cold- half hot. It’s literally in the name. The user can also produce these flames and
or ice from any part of their body on the element's respective side. Basically, he can blaze up any part of the
left side of his body, and chill out any part of the right. Now while the user can create and manipulate
the ice and fire they produce they are unable to manipulate either element that comes from
an external source. So while Todoroki is free to make Ice slides
with his own ice, he can’t turn the antarctic into an ice playground with just the ice around
him, and the same goes for fire, he can produce flames of varying heat, but he can’t put
out a burning building with his mind. Pfft, what is even the point of having a quirk
if you can’t do that. It’s also important to note, that although
Half Cold -Half-Hot is the perfect hybrid offspring, of Endeavor’s hell flame ability
and Rei’s ice quirk, neither side of this quirk is a perfect 1:1 to its parent. Basically, while the flame side of this quirk
is similar to HellFlame and the ice side is similar to Rei’s ice quirk, they are not
identical, as this quirk is very much its own. Which when you think about it a beautiful
metaphor for how even though Shoto was born to be the perfect combination of his parents,
though he is similar to them in ways, he is his own unique person with his own unique
quirk. Or Horikoshi could have just thought F*ck
it! Handsome anime boy is different! But anyway now it’s time to talk about this
quirk’s abilities! For which, Sweet Mother of Midoriya, there
is a lot of. Endeavor was not messing around when he said
Shoto will be the one person to surpass All Might, dude went beast mode with the abilities. But you know who else goes beast mode in absolutely
everything they do! The sponsor of today’s video Bokksu! (Oh boy I sure-wait Bokksu again?) yes Bokksu again, how could not love Bokksu(Oh

are going to talk about how offensively Half-Cold Half-Hot has a plethora of techniques. Using the right side of their body, the user
can create large waves of ice, that engulf their opponents, trapping them in a frozen
prison. This frozen prison technique can be used at
a distance, with the user being able to produce large waves of ice that swiftly travel towards
their opponent, or it can be used in close quarters with the user just having to touch
their target to have the ice form around them as seen when Shoto used this technique against
the villains during the USJ attack and again when he bested Iida, in the semi-finals of
UA sports Festival. This attack can also be used to restrain multiple
targets at once, as it can cover a widespread area. I should also point out that while this attack
may initially seem devasting, the user actually has full control over the ice they produce,
meaning they can choose which body parts of their targets they freeze, allowing them to
avoid fatally wounding their target, or to specifically fatally wound them depending
on how your feeling. This level of control is also great for support
situations as the user can cover enemy territory with ice while simultaneously preventing it
from getting in their allies' way. And when I say enemy territory I mean it can
be a simple area like an open battlefield or even a complicated structure such as an
entire building as seen when Todoroki, just froze the feet of his fellow classmates Ojiro
and Hagakure during class 1-A’s first battle exercise. In fact, the user of this quirk gains such
a level of control over their ice that they can manipulate it to take the form of any
shape they desire. Whether it’s an ice barricade used to defend
yourself, an ice house to live in, or for the more immature of us out there, they can
make ginormous, multi-storied ice shaped Peni Using the left side of their body, offensively,
the user of this quirk is capable of shooting out streams of fire, essentially turning themselves
into a human flame thrower. The user can use 1 continuous consuming stream
of fire to overwhelm their opponent at a distance, or they can shoot short waves of it, allowing
them to swiftly hit multiple targets with flames in quick succession. For melee combat, the user actually has the
power to engulf the entire left side of their body in flames, which is not only great for
offensive close quarters but also is a great move for defense, as seen when stain tried
to take some of Todoroki’s blood, but he couldn’t get past his body of fire. Mobility wise there is a lot this quirk is
capable of as well. Just like Endeavor, by expelling fire jets
through the sole of their left foot the user can temporarily suspend themselves in the
air and they can also eject said flames outwards from their foot or from their back to propel
themselves forward. Now since the user of this quirk only has
flames coming out the left side of his body, this technique doesn’t work quite as well
as Hellflame’s version, where the user can stay suspended in the air indefinitely, but
not to fear as this quirk does make up for it with its ice side. Using the ice side of their body, the user
can not only stack ice shards behind their back to propel themselves forward or to freeze
the ground, turning it into a makeshift ice rink, which they can skate on, but they can
also mold the ice they create into whatever shape they desire, such as stairs, a slide
or even a Giant pillar that raises upwards. The possibilities are endless. Now you may be thinking, creating Ice and
Flames is great and all but how much of it can I create and how cold or hot can it be
and the answer to those questions is helluva of the lot and pretty damn cold or hot. In terms of how much of these elements the
user can produce at one time, we just have to look at the quirk's named super moves,
the first of which is called “Heaven piercing ice wall”. For this move the user creates an enormous
ice glacier, that can either encapsulate their opponent or block the immediate field of battle
in ice. Now when I say an enormous I mean Majunganormous,
the glacier this move creates has been seen to cover huge portions of a forest and in
some cases even tower over entire city blocks. It’s a lot of ice. To see how much fire the user can produce
we just have to look at “Heaven piercing ice wall’s” fire-equivalent super move
known as “Wall of flames”, which sounds way less threatening than heaven piercing
wall, put still pretty threatening. For this move, the user generates a burst
of flames that covers and engulfs a large area. Now the user can choose to generate the burst
of flames in front of them, which will only temporarily keep the area aflame, or by igniting
the entire left side of their body ablaze they can create one giant inferno with them
at its epicenter, the first time we saw this move was during the joint training, in which
Todoroki used it on Tetsutetsu and nearly set the entirety of battleground gamma ablaze. So yeah, to answer your question it’s a
lot of fire. On the topic of super moves, there is also
a flame based super move which after receiving training from Endeavor, Todoroki also mastered
called Flashfire Fist, in which the user increases the temperature of their flames to their maximum
and compresses them into a white-hot point, maximizing their fire output and firepower. Essentially the user makes the hottest most
concentrated flames they can possibly make. And after learning this technique from Endeavor,
Todoroki actually created his own super move which he calls Flashfire Fist: Jet Kindling. For this move, the user first uses FlashFire
fist to concentrate their flames into a white-hot point on their fist, and then they punch their
opponent, and upon making contact they release a violent explosion of flames from their arm,
severely burning their target. Ah punching things till they turn to ash like
father-like son. Now since this is the most powerful technique
the user of this quirk can perform with their fire-side alone, you may be wondering what
is the coldest technique, and unfortunately, we don’t know as Todoroki has never really
shown off the limits of his ice ability, although in the My Hero Academia: Heroes Rising Movie
he did freeze the villain chimera inside and out using ice which he claimed was the lowest
possible temperature he could make. So at least there’s that. Also on the topic of Movies in the newest
My Hero Movie: My hero Academia: World Heroes Mission there was one scene where Todoroki
performed his own version Endeavor’s Hell Spider Technique: in which he concentrated
his flames into white-hot points on his fingertips and emitted beams of fire to slice through
his target. Although I will say Todoroki’s version was
nowhere near on the same level as Endeavor’s. Not even close. And finally, in terms of an ultimate move,
Half-Cold Half-Hot does in fact have one, and it’s called Flashfreeze Heatwave. For this move the user of this quirk first
uses their ice to thoroughly chill the air in the area around them and then by switching
to their fire, they rapidly heat the air causing it to expand drastically turning the user’s
flames into a super-heated blast that devastates anything in its path. This move was so powerful in fact that it
not only obliterated Midoriya who was using 100% of One For All (albeit his body couldn’t
handle the power at the time) and created one of the most visually iconic and beautiful
moments in the series but the first time it was used was the last ever time, in the show
excluding movies, that the iconic You Say Run soundtrack was ever used. That’s right it’s so powerful it not only
beat Midoriya but changed his theme song forever. Now that’s an ultimate move. But even though this quirk has abilities galore
now it’s time to talk about this quirk’s weaknesses, and just as there are a plethora
of abilities, it, unfortunately, does have its fair share of issues. For starters, while the user does have resistance
to both fire and ice, they’re not totally immune. This means that not only can the user be affected
and hurt by these elements, but overusing their own fire and ice can lead to frostbite
or overheating which could possibly become fatal. To counteract this weakness the user can alternate
between using their fire and ice attacks to moderate their body temperature, however,
this is a weakness of its own. As if you are facing an opponent who knows
this fact, they could predict which element you are going to use next based on how much
you have used either side. It also could prove to be fatal in a situation
where one of your elements is nullified such as underwater, in a room with highly flammable
objects, or against an opponent who absorbs fire or ice. If you caught yourself in this situation you
would be limited to using only one side of your body, and there would be a big limitation
on the amount of it you could use. Just look at Todoroki’s first fight with
Midoriya in which he refused to use his fire. His body began to seize up and twitch and
he was severely fatigued solely due to the overuse of his ice. And speaking of the usage of only one side
another weakness that comes with this quirk is that ice is restricted to the right side
of the body and fire is restricted to the left. This means that if one side of the user’s
body gets pinned down, or trapped then the user would be unable to use that element. Midoriya himself took advantage of this weakness
during the Calvary battle, staying on Todoroki’s left side as much as possible as he knew he
wouldn’t use his fire. Now it is interesting to mention that currently
in the manga Todoroki is training himself to be able to generate both elements from
either half of his body, counteracting this weakness and effectively giving him two Quirks. However, it is very much yet to be seen if
he can pull it off and if so to what extent. But the greatest weakness this quirk has to
offer, just like other flame quirks like Endeavor with Hellflame and with the Villian Dabi’s
quirk cremation is Clothes! While Endeavor, Dabi, and Shoto happen to
live in a world where they can easily get access to fire-retardant clothing, not every
piece of clothing in our world is as forgiving. So if you ever wanted to get your flame on
or even chill out, you would probably lose almost every clothing item on you. And depending on your self-confidence your
dignity. But enough of the weaknesses now it’s time
to talk about this quirk’s potential. The first of which is the fact that the user
actually has access to more elements than you think. Since the user can create ice and fire at
will, they can just create ice, melt it and poof you got water! What can they do with this water? Drink it, cause things to get wet, bottle
it, and sell it online as Todoroki water, you know people would love it or you could
use it to power up other people's moves, like Kaminari’s electricity. Plus if you wanted to take it a step further,
you could make a pool of water then heat it with your fire, and boom you have boiling
water or steam. With this technique, you could plant water
spots on the ground to surprise incoming opponents and then boil it, or steam it to cause some
serious damage. I mean, cmon, we all know how damaging boiling
water can be! Another potential this quirk offers is something
Todoroki is actually working on, to use his power on either side of his body, this would
not only solve a bunch of this quirk’s weaknesses but it opens up so many possibilities for
Todoroki, as if he could master his fire with his whole body then he would essentially gain
Endeavor’s full quirk, allowing him to do absolutely everything Endeavor can do and
more! Also since we have seen Shoto engulf his left
side in fire, he could potentially do this same with his right except with ice, making
him look like an inverse of his first-ever hero costume and giving him an extra layer
of defense! Plus if he gets full-body control of his ice
powers, he could turn into a giant iceman! Now that would be cool! But still in my opinion the greatest potential
this quirk offers is the power of flight, and no I don’t mean like how Endeavor does
it. I’m talking you strap a balloon to Todoroki’s
back, he lights up his fireside, and boom he turns himself into one handsome ass hot
air balloon! Sure anyone can fly the normal way, it takes
a true hero to fly in with style! And that’s everything you need to know about
the quirk Half-Cold Half-Hot! Overall, this quirk is insanely powerful,
versatile, and quite frankly unique. It is so easy to see why Endeavor sought after
this power, if there is any quirk in the series to match or even surpass One For All it is
definitely this one! And to be honest it’s abilities and powers
greatly outweigh its weaknesses. So would I like to have this quirk? Is my Saint Mama Julia the 2nd, no it’s
not but I would love to have this quirk! But let me know what you think? Would you like to have the Half-Cold Half-Hot
quirk, and what quirk would you like me to cover in this series next? Let me know in the comments below. Thank you so much for watching and I'll see
you in the next video. Plus Ultra!
