we got 12 inches of snow last night we're looking forward to more some more this week so uh what about turn shape as it relates to big mountain and your shoots and what we're working on today so for this video we're focusing on short radius turns for moguls for steeps for shoots for speed control there's two types of turn shapes that we're talking about we've got a crescent moon turn shape that's a really fast turn shape that might be for more for racing or when you're on a groomer going really fast and then there's a turn shaped more like a capital C it's a much rounder turn shape it's a slower turn shape it's a very skillful turn shape and this is specifically the turn shape we're working on with Finley in this video so there's four steps to this video we're focusing on outside ski skiing and an introduction of that turn shape then we're focusing on tempo and rhythm then we take tempo and rhythm into the difficult scenario of synchronized skiing and then the fourth step is taking synchronized skiing into the moguls variable conditions and that's sort of tough I don't want you to have the feeling that you have to go slow I don't want you to have the feeling that you have to be pretty I want you to have the feeling that you have total command and total control for you to stomp on it and be as good as you want to be do you know what I mean yeah you're good at all you're jumping we're gonna work on all these skiing skills they're hugely important okay I want you to feel your outside foot show me which one's your outside foot outside downhill foot that's power power ski got that each turn remember the transition in the turn we talked about remember like riding a bike do you remember that yeah you change from one foot to the other foot like you're riding the bike yes way to think it through you got it Finley let's see your short radius turns over here yeah there you go that's happening that's better already Finley that's a lot better yeah keep it going that rocks Finley good control good rhythm nice pull plants keep it going outside foot outside foot so what's your strategy when you go down a chute you want to be able to do everything yeah and what comes to my mind and hearing you say that if you want to be able to do everything you have to be in balance yeah is that right yeah because if you're not in balance can you make big turns and then go to small turns and then go back to big turns and then go back to small turns and then jump do you want to be able to do everything now do you remember what we drew inside about our turn shape okay so that rounder turn shape for our speed control and that balance right okay so we're gonna go down this pitch I'm gonna lead I'm not gonna go fast we're gonna make really nice turn shape okay then I'm gonna have you lead I want you to copy that same turn shape not real fast right now and what's important when you get into a steep pitch like you you at any moment have to be able to do whatever you want to do you have to be able to let it loose and go fast you have to be able to stop you have to be able to make a really quick turn or you might want to be able to jump for all of that you have to be in balance and for all of that you have to be in control at all times does that make sense that mean means everything is your choice all the time so with that we have to be able to start it with making a good turn shape you ready okay let's do this come on okay I'm not going fast here outside ski outside ski good side ski good turn shape you lead outside ski outside ski yeah good turn shape keep that turn shape how about your pole plants do you like pole planning do you know how the pole plants work okay I'm gonna tell you something here pull plants pull plants come out of your wrists yeah yeah where yeah not out of their elbows and pole plants do not come out of the shoulders that would look weird like that out of your wrist put your hands in front like you're hugging a beach ball Finland let's make this into a team sport sink skiing okay hugely important that we have turn shape control that we have speed control and we have rhythm it's testing our balance and our control that we're gonna need in the shoots okay so our rhythms gonna be you do it little quicker that's gonna be our rhythm okay Finley we're gonna follow each other and side by side here we go but an turn turn turn turn turn turn okay good good turn shape outside ski outside scheme outside ski nice turn shape you're rocking it five team sport so we are upping the difficulty level here okay I'm gonna need your absolute most athletic self okay and speed is not the goal you're control you're good turn shape through these moguls and the powder is the goal here okay all right bud what yeah yeah forward and just really actively making these turns through this moguls and through this powder okay all righty bud let's see it whoo yeah keep it going buddy one turn into the next Finley there we go okay turn turn turn turn keep your rhythm Finley here we go turn turn turn turn keep turning Finley this is a hard drill go go go go that was hard there we go
