of course i got milk on my lens that's great so that's fitting her pretty good you want it snug but you want her to be able to kind of move she has been laboring for probably two hours they're cash valley again that one sold the form really disappointed her utter is beautiful i'm so [Music] sad [Music] hmm one two three hello i think we've got babies [Music] something right behind you honey okay mom look [Music] [Applause] i better move you guys someone can keep track but that's it good morning guys it's friday and uh just one set of twins today so far so these babies are still really wet so she just had them the other one the little white one was uh still very much half in her sack she's not really doing a good job looking enough and it's the one that really needs it so i brought a towel i brought colostrum and i also brought the tube to grab it now before it gets a chill it's not a very lively lamb yet but it could have been just born so your mom's not doing a very good job right now okay let's see number one if you'll just drink because that's more important cold now so probably not [Music] okay so no it will not drink oh shoot of course i got milk on my lens that's great oh its mouth isn't too too bad i might just try to tube it i might just try the tube there we go okay so i got [Music] 150 ml into it [Music] okay how's that taste right [Music] here look a little more spry a little bit trying to feed you a bottle little baby you're still nice and warm [Music] that's a good baby we have a sucking reflux you know you got time i was really really hoping the slamming would not happen at 4 am i was hoping with feeding them different it would it would be like seven or six even but anyway all right i'm just gonna make sure the milk machine is working and functioning check on those lambs again and then um yeah we'll see you guys in a bit wow you guys get all the good stuff i have a prolapse and i have not had a u prolapse in this barn for at least a year i think i literally got a message a week ago saying what do you do with pearl one of you prolapses before she's gonna give birth and i'm like i'm like oh you use a spoon and use a harness and then they're like well you know do you get them a lot and i'm like i hate it when people ask me that because i'm like i haven't had one for a year and then i'm like knock on wood lol well guess what happened i spoke those words out loud and i have a you prolapsing so i'm gonna walk you through this i'm not sure what youtube's gonna make of this whole thing so this is what i'm working with so i have to actually manually put that back in her clean it off put it back in her and actually put the spoon in the harness on hello mommy so i'm just cleaning it with soap and water you can see that and then i'm just gonna actually put it back in gently it springs back in it should but the problem is use sometimes to push it back up okay so she's in no problem that was a good one and then i might actually put on the harness first [Applause] so there's a spot that goes over the neck don't hit the water so like so this goes under the tail like so that's another reason why i like to have a little bit of a tail for well not that i want prolapse to use it's not a good reason to keep a u but whatever and then these little straps go around their legs and then they hook up it's really slick i got this i think these are premiere and they're adjustable so ever use a bit different in size obviously there we go so that's fitting her pretty good you want it snug but you want her to be able to kind of move of course so i'm just going to take this off for a second so i can get the spoon in okay let's see okay it's nice and warm so it shouldn't bug you too much [Applause] you kind of want to get under that there we go it should go right in for you put it under the harness best you can [Applause] [Music] and then what i do is there's little strings on the spoon on the sides and i just tie them to the actual hands [Applause] some people can use the spoon only and i think they somehow connected to them they use wool and i've never been able to do that so this is what i do partly because i hear i shear my sheep so they don't have a lot of wool to attach it to so i don't ever talk about this in my lambing kit because the goal is to not ever have to use this but it does happen so there she's all in here all good and clean [Applause] okay they can lamb right through that they'll spit out the lamb will spit out the spoon when she lands and then the harness just moves to the side so you don't ever have to worry about being here um if the hardest is on her nature will take care of that which is i learned that too just through trial hanging out with my you making sure she's okay making sure that didn't move i thought maybe i'd talk a little bit about prolapses these are my original steel use i don't remember if i've even had one that have prolapsed so this is maybe my first one of this breed i've had some other breeds that have done it so i usually try to call it out of the flock so if if if one does this prior to lambing i'll let them lay them out they usually are fine after they land like the everything goes back into place and they don't have a problem even when they're lambing it doesn't pop out you with me knock on wood like knock on a lot of wood so that doesn't usually seem to be the issue once they land the problem usually seems to go away but i don't want it reoccurring so if she's done it once i just don't trust that she won't do it again especially as she gets older yeah i just don't take the chance and i really don't want the offspring if there is if there is a chance that it that it's genetically um passed on a lot of people will say it's not and that's totally cool i just don't want to take the chance uh some some people also say they just fill up on feed so if they got lots of babies inside them and they eat way too much feed they just don't have room for both and then that that cavity just starts to come out now she wasn't out very far she was maybe out the size of my fist well a little bit bigger than that maybe size of a grapefruit so we caught it in time as you could see it was really clean so it was just nicely fresh out if she'd been laying down in the straw and it had been out for a while it would be it would be pretty dirty so that's the risk with a prolapse is infection so you want to get it really really clean because you are literally she is her insides are out you need to make sure it's really really clean before you push it back in and push it in really gently you'll feel it it kind of springs back in once you get it kind of to the right spot it just kind of plops right into place and then that spoon goes in nice so that's kind of prolapse 101 i don't know really what else to say about it except for i really hate them they stress me out especially when you don't know what to expect and what to do so i would strongly recommend get the tools like this harness from premiere is like awesome and get those spoons i used to do it with just the harness doesn't work as good but the harness and the spoon is just awesome and then it just takes out any questions in your mind uh so if this happens to you get online order one of these even in your landing kit just order one if you never have to use it it's the best money you ever spent so she's very cool cool as a cucumber maybe she likes red i don't know i will let her out if she um if she doesn't land by the end of today probably well it is late afternoon it's almost shift change already i have been working away at this stupid water hose to get it winterized it's been like three days i've worked on this thing anyways i've had my eye on this you she has been laboring for probably two hours so yes i waited but waiting is done she's been straining there's nothing coming out except for discharge so i am doing an internal just to make sure nothing's wrong uh prolapse you has not land still and this mama bear the um the first lamb we tubed this morning did not make it she was she had died or he had died um a couple hours after i tubed it so yeah so that is the update that's all you've missed today it's been kind of another slow day there's been no lambs this is like besides the one this morning this is it and the other ones i'm gonna let out as soon as i'm done checking this big mama so let's do that you ready mama i really don't like my left hand [Music] oh [Music] okay hello just curl back okay this looks hard too there we one's not hard to go what i'm [Applause] feeling oh gross that one was really it deformed yeah majorly deformed [Music] good they're dead they're cache valley again that one it's all deformed is that the mosquito yeah which would be july yeah which is kind of nice she has a nice view are those uh maybe some reason for the other ones too i don't know [Music] [Applause] i don't think so what's the case it's like a great defect virus because it was affecting women like uh [Music] [Music] hawk inside the inside probably scared of your christmas tree you have birds trying to nest in your tree yet literally just opened an email when i went to get her the girl during the cast guys steady stand if you have any cash valley let me know i'm good are you freaking kidding me that's a second i got asked about a prolapse the other day and she prolapsed and i got asked about this like 15 minutes ago [Applause] and i can now [Applause] [Music] well you guys that is the second thing today it's something that i haven't seen in a year at least a year so i delivered those two lambs i i knew something this is why i checked them because i knew something was wrong i could barely get them out because they were both dead and they have major defects uh curved legs i haven't really looked at the spine yet the spine is a pretty good indication but from what i can tell it looks like cache valley virus i had it last year so if you look at my vlogs from last december i ran into this too and i didn't know what it was it took me a few so now i'm wondering if some of my early deaths had anything to do with this what i'm struggling with the uh the polls were pretty tough on mum so i'm giving her some metacam and some penicillin so i just want to make sure she's okay i wish i had some lambs born today because i could probably put put one or two on her she's full of milk so it's a little bit discouraging um i will write her down and why i say i manifest this not a word of a lie i checked my phone right before i went to get her i was looking at my emails and i got an email from a girl from university guelph who is doing who's doing a study on cachet valley they had to cancel this they were gonna do my flock as a test block um and it had got pushed back because of coving so she was just wishing me a merry christmas and she said if you see it again between now and march or whenever we can get going again she goes let me know seriously so this has happened this is the second thing prolapse and this all in one day and i haven't seen it in a long time so i'm not frustrated because it's that is something cache valley is a whole lot like if you remember the zika virus a few years ago affected pregnant women same kind of thing it's transferred by mosquitoes this was a summer bread flock so you know august september i thought it had to be later in the season but we did have some nice days in november when we were harvesting so she could have gotten infected even in november so a little bit discouraging it's nice to see this stuff i'm gonna put a picture i'm not gonna show you the lambs because youtube won't youtube doesn't really like anything dead in the video so i will show you just a picture online of what cache valley looks like so these ones have really curved up legs and i haven't seen the spine but that's usually another indication of spine sometimes does an s um and they're usually dead really disappointed her utter is beautiful i'm so sad anyways all right i'm gonna do this and uh and then i'm gonna start letting out some use and that'll be it for my shift and then chris will be here [Music] bye [Music] hmm [Music] hmm [Music] uh [Music] [Music] um [Music] birds [Music] you
