yeah i think i got two lambing that one and that one so they're much happier hi noah we had a set of triplets born last night the markets have been insane a wise man once said to me sandy you can't sell a lamb twice and then this morning this was my drama [Music] i would say good morning but that would be a lie it is the afternoon we're still in the deep bowels of renovating this kitchen um we started this kitchen like five years ago four years ago and we just take off a little bits every year and right now we're starting to lay the floor that we bought uh three years ago i think yesterday was a busy day for lambs we had two sets of quads one was very disappointing so i'm actually out here to treat mama over on instagram we've been nicknaming her large marge she was huge she was the size well she was as wide as she was tall the first one i think she was having trouble giving birth to it because it was stillborn it was coming out the right way but they're just hard to get out when they're still born i think she has a pinched nerve i thought maybe it was preg talk so i treated her for preg talks yesterday and i'm like i don't think it's preg talk she's too perky and alert so the first one was stillborn the next three were fine but she laid on two because pinched nerf so anyway i'm left with one i pulled it out yesterday because i didn't want it to get laid on so it's now a bottle baby the you beside her had four and they were great let's go in and see them and see if anyone else is lamb and then i got some other jobs i have to do even though it's sunday i don't really want to work today [Music] so beautiful large marge uh this is my new year's baby so they need tagged today and then she had twins [Music] i think i hear noises yep she's starting to go that's good [Music] she's huge okay i'm gonna keep my eye on her and what i haven't done is actually vaccinate my bottle my bottle lambs i have to get them on creep i should have done it when i was doing the other creep feeders i don't know why i didn't it's a clostridial antitoxin and that's just to help them get on the grain without getting any of the clostridial issues what can happen is these bottle babies were pulled off mom fairly young like fairly early and mom is the one carrying all those antibodies i want them to have to to develop their own clostridial protection and because they haven't had it i've learned the hard way that i have to actually uh supplement that so i'm gonna do that actually right now oh i think this one's slamming too that one's lambing too yeah i think i got two lambing that one and that one so once again i i don't know if i'm gonna have enough because this is a five mil dose i always forget that it's so much more for this stuff so we're gonna go until we run out if i run out i must i might just switch to tasbach's just so they have something um and then order more of this which i even ordered i literally had an order come in last week from rex i just i thought i had a whole bottle but i didn't so i need to put that on my landing kit list and i don't do that so i need to do that for next year so i'm going to give them the five mil dose and then i'm also going to scan their tag and paint their bums and that helps me as i'm going i don't redo the same lamp it's a bit of a rodeo so just bear with me [Music] as long as i can still hear those views at the back then i know they're still pushed lambing it's cold i know the one i want to get for sure is noah because he did not get any of mom's milk he's the one i had to save so i'm gonna do him now [Music] you're good [Music] um [Music] i think i have enough [Music] 23 lambs in there and i think we got some lamin going on down there so we're gonna go check that out um a big lamp and it's a single so it's going to be huge [Applause] [Applause] good good girl you're a great contractor there we go you go you did that and you can't see it's right in the [Music] corner [Music] nope good awesome okay this one i'm just doing an internal uh if i feel anything weird then i'll assist but if it feels like everything's good then i'll probably leave her and watch okay so she's dilated just barely and it's coming out the right way the water's broke lambs good active kind of got it right here so i might just keep going i'm just going to go with your contractions you doing good good girl good girl [Music] [Applause] [Music] up mom on your own i'm gonna check her for another one and then i'm gonna check her milk and then i'm going to leave her alone you got another one in there a little surprise girl looks like one of those popping out good girl that was a nice good morning you're welcome nope you're good that's it good i'm out of here that was awesome [Music] [Music] so [Music] good morning you guys i did a whole list and the number one thing i have to do is pay my employee so i have to do that first thing i have to make a new feed sheet and then i got a bunch of stuff to do in the barn and i kind of want to get them out of the way today because i am going to paint the second half of my kitchen slash great room so it's kind of the great room part of the kitchen most of the day has passed i did all the jobs i wanted to do out here today which includes hi i made their bottle baby pen a whole lot bigger so they're much happier hi noah tagged some lambs and two of the quads i put in the baby pen that's who you hear right now and i also did this so these lambs born in that first week the lambs and the use the back pen had a lot of room and this pen i just thought was a bit shy for space so i actually just took out a divider there and i gave them both sides so they've got oodles of room now to hang out and the lambs were old enough now they'll be able to find mum i didn't do this the first week because i didn't want to make the pen too too big i do think i keep it i keep the pens a bit tighter until the lambs are kind of independent on their own they know mom they can find each other they have feed so now they also the reason why i also did this is because now they can all use the creep feeder and i believe andrew was here today when i was in the house i'm gonna put one in the bottle baby pen i think and one in the uh in the pen at the back i might do it tomorrow morning i'm kind of in the middle of more painting which i've also been doing so yeah it's been a very productive day i'm kind of kind of like i'm making a little to-do list in the morning how long that will last i'm not really sure well not a whole bunch but for march of 2022 [Music] [Music] it is my mission in 2021 to do a little regroup in the office before i start my day become a little more efficient organized with my time i don't like to-do lists but i kind of like them just for setting out like three or four big things i want to accomplish in a day and then when i'm done my day i know it's there and i really something's so satisfying about crossing off a list so i know it's there and it forces me to go back in the office so i'm i'm trying to get more like instead of walking by it i want to stop at it because office work is still like i hate to admit it but it's the backbone of all this stuff uh trying to get more into the habit of spending some time not being afraid of the office i hate the office it gives me a rash okay this is what you've missed we had a set of triplets born last night who looked great we had when were these boring carissa yesterday morning before right before i after i left but before you got here so we had a set of twins yesterday morning and then this morning this was my drama so i came in first thing this morning this one was over there running around with no none of them had any evidence of lands so i'm like who do you belong to this one was laying there just looking at me not pushing not doing anything so i'm like what what's your issue turned around to our back end this one was stuck head first no legs its head is super swollen i don't know if you can really tell [Applause] pretty swollen eh so thankfully it's the one morning i didn't get up at four i got up at 4 30. um i haven't been studying alarm because i've just been waking up but i think i think i better start setting my alarm because usually when i get to the end of lambing i i tend to sleep in a little bit longer so i was half an hour and that's likely how long that one was stuck so i was lucky i got out here when i did and then mom took a while to get up so then i'm like oh my god does this one have a pinched nerve but i got her up and we got some milk into this one it took about two and a half hours i tried at five to get i i stripped out mom so i took some milk at a mom put it in a bottle tried to feed the baby and it had a really good sucking reflex but they can't they can't actually squeeze the nipple because their face is just so full of fluid so um so when carissa got here at seven she gave it a go oh no she got here at eight seven thirty eight when she gave it a go it drank 150 mls which is exactly what i want i wanted to to drink and they're having a nice little sleep so that's a happy ending that might not have been if i was any longer getting out here this morning so when we get down to the tail enders uh time is everything uh they need a little more watch just because the lambs are getting [Music] big [Applause] [Music] so [Music] i think my camera died just as i went to put in my new creep feeder so what i did do i gave these guys a little more room and i put the feeder going the other way i'm not entirely sure my lambs understand how it works yet but i have one here i open the doors up completely so they can so they don't feel like they're gonna get their head caught um i put one in the bottle baby pen and i put one in that pen down there so that's one job off the list and now i'm like to go across the road and weigh some lambs i don't think i'm going to have any ready but it doesn't hurt just i have the time it doesn't really hurt to run them through and get used to it every time those lambs go through that handling system they get better at it and it just goes quicker so i think i might do that here's the other one [Applause] [Music] hello what are you doing lambs are locked and loaded in the handling system what i'm doing now is just firing up the gallagher changing the session to just a wait session but if you remember on my to-do list i really wanted to check how the markets are do it the markets have been insane for quite a few weeks here especially in and around christmas time which over the last few years they haven't been that strong around christmas uh some of my best prices has actually been after christmas like january but this year they've been they've been strong since the fall like they've been really strong i just can't complain on the prices but what it does is it makes me it makes me question what weight range to sell my lambs at i've always targeted the uh 95 to 105 pound range i think that's what it is so what i do every week is i go on my app and i have a market app my sale day is thursday so i look at the week before there's already been one sale in ontario which was on monday which was yesterday so that's already up so i will look at that to get a feeling for how many lamps have already been sold in ontario and what the prices are doing and so i did that already and it's looking like yesterday's sale looks like only 460 lambs were sold so not many lambs already brought to market prices are good all over the map but my typical price right now average price for 95 to 109 pounds is 323 dollars that's that's it's crazy that's the range i always go for however the 80 to 94 so the range right below that 296 dollars per hundred weight uh per 100 pounds of uh 1894. so i did the math there and we're still looking at 250 to 260 per lamb and you're not growing them as long so it's one of those things do i just get rid of some that are in that range below uh i don't know a wise man once said to me sandy you can't sell a lamb twice and he's right so i just have to make a decision i'm probably gonna just see how many i have in the hundred pound range if i don't have enough this week for sure i have next enough next week but then it's like what are the markets gonna do so it's one of those times that you wish you had a crystal ball this is what i was afraid of so there's only seven out of all those so out of like 128 lambs seven were over 105 pounds i'm just going to go through the stats here so the average weight was 107 max was 114 min was 105. and i'm so tempted and i knew this was going to happen i have so many that are in between 100 95 and 105. and i know i said that was my weight target however what i have found with my lambs anyway i think because i take mine to the market the night before uh they're shrink so my average weight is 107.86 right now so if i actually just did the weight range what is on the chart so 95 to 105. likely the average weight would only be in and around say 100 pounds so that's fine but then all of a sudden 100 pounds mine would would lose probably overnight anywhere between five and ten pounds so we're looking at i'd say probably a hundred pound lamb that i take uh tomorrow night would be probably about like 92 when it goes through the ring the lambs are still really profitable at that weight so this has been my problem the last probably four or five months i've been really struggling to keep them longer like i usually do uh this is one of those times it's like well is change a bad thing i don't i don't really know it's more of a logistics and systems thing so next week i'm gonna have a full trailer because all those that are like 95 to 100 right now are going to be right in right in line next week so um i think i'll just hold on them for another week and have a full load uh it's not that bad and they will actually kind of bring that weight category up next week so i think i'm gonna do that it's not worth it's just not worth my fuel and my time to take seven lambs to market sandy says we're gonna wait [Music] [Music] getting there yeah it's really agonizing painful my brain hurts whoa [Music] oh she was so cute [Music] you
