I travel full-time in an RV and I camp solo in some pretty remote places so I take my safety pretty seriously and over my time on the road I have accumulated a bunch of safety and self-defense weapons that make me feel safer on the road they're not the things you normally think of and I'm going to share them with you today [Music] hey everybody its Robin with creativity RV I am excited to show you some gear today that I use for my own safety on the road of course I did all the regular things I pointed in the direction of my exit I put out two chairs even though I was so low I put out some big men's boots like everybody says you should do but that wasn't enough when I decided on what gear I wanted to have inside my rig outside my Riggin in my truck what I did is I went through every scenario that I could imagine from wild animal to person and how they could get in and how I could get out and let my path with me so think about the same thing while I go through this gear down below pinned at the top of comments is a link to my gear page where there's a special section for safety and self-defense you can see all of these items get your notepad ready I'm gonna start with a basic this is a motion sensor light now I'm sure a lot of you have seen these before I have about six of these outside I just set them on a running board if I have my last rig or around the perimeter of my rig and I always point one under the undercarriage of my rig or my car because it also deters like mice and squirrels from getting in there because what happens is you point it so the light hits here so no batteries or anything and then automatically when the Sun Goes Down if anything walks in front of this sensor the light comes on I've said before when I was first on the road I know people can see in the rig at night so as soon as the Sun went down I would close all the blinds and then every noise outside I thought was a guy with a hook in the door but after I go to bed I open up all my blinds because I'm usually camped in like a rocky gravelly area I've cracked my windows I've acclimated to the darkness so somebody comes up I'm gonna hear them or I'm gonna see them especially because I have these motion sensor lights and when I go out at night to look at stars which I do a lot I pick out the window to see if there's any motion symptom lights on because I want to make sure there's not a bear outside especially in Colorado where I'm can't be now a four pack is 39.99 this is the e macros solar driveway alarm so after Sun Goes Down when my blinds are down if there's something out there or somebody out there I'm not gonna see them so after a ton of searching and thinking about what I needed I ended up getting a driveway alarm so you can see that this is also solar-powered and this is the sensor what's cool about these is it's not just solar powered you can also plug it into a USB to charge it so you can mount this there are screws back here but I didn't want to do that because of weather and damage to my RV so this is what I do I put a command hook on the outside of my RV I put it on this side and that side because I have two of these sensors then I just put some zip ties through the screw holes and imagine this is up on the side of the rake you want to mount these about four feet high and they can detect 30 feet to half a mile you can choose the setting so imagine this it's up on the side of your rig somebody walks here and what happens is you get a lovely little ding on this puck this is the base station you can see here that it will take up to four of these sensors I only have two if somebody's on this side of the rig I'll get a chime on one and the light goes off and if somebody goes on that side of the rake it's a different chime and the light goes off now this thing has technology that makes it go up only for people in cars so this isn't going off all the time and what I do is I keep it by my door in between my bedroom and my living room on a piece of velcro and when I'm traveling I recharge this and I recharge this so when I get to my next spot it's ready to go even if there's no sign the eMac grows solar driveway alarm with two sensors and the puck is 12999 so let's say you're camping somewhere and the lights go off and the motion sensor alarm goes off to tell you somebody's out there and they're not leaving I'll tell you I have not had this problem I have all this gear and I've really never had a problem with a person on the road but if I run into that situation and there's some cheese bag out there that won't take off the next deterrent I have is a sonic boat alarm this tiny gadget is $12.99 I have to I have one here and I've one in my car so let's say somebody's out there you know because of the lights you know because of the audible motion sensor if they won't leave you give them a taste of this and they will probably pee their shorts another deterrent that I have which I think a few of you probably have is bear spray now I chose the frontiersman with the carrier so this is how this works all you have to do is pull this out and this thing will shoot 30 feet what I like about this is you don't have to get too close you can spray somebody from a long way away now I know people are gonna say be careful of a backdraft because it will go in your eyes sure that's true I'm okay if my eyes sting a little bit if I get to go back inside to tell the story I have one zip tied to my camp chair I have one by my front door and I have one in my car now I really love the next one because this is one of the first things I got I don't know if you guys can see this but you can see I really use this thing this is a pepper spray glove so here's the deal with this I use it when I'm hiking it's also got some reinforced knuckles and you're walking you're walking you're walking and you don't see somebody and they try and grab you you don't have to reach in your pocket for something literally you turn the nozzle and you can spray somebody immediately of course this just gives you time to run away this pepper spray glove is 1448 you can also wear too if you want now let's talk about contact let's say the deterrence like light and sound don't work and there's somebody out there that means you harm or an animal I do also have gear in case I need to fight my way out of a situation this is a kubaton keychain the one I got comes in a pack of four you can see there are these little ridges right here that's so you can grip it now women are always taught to put their keys inside of their hands and like punch people with it but the keys slide end with this you have a grip so I have one of these on my keychain and I also have other ones just hidden because these are so tiny that you can put them anywhere what you want to do according to research I've done is go for bony sensitive or fleshy areas so we're talking somebody comes after you you get in the temple or the eyeball or the groin or the knuckles or something like that the cool thing about this is that it can also break glass so let's say I have to break glass to get out of here to get to my truck or into my truck or something else if I have this on me all I have to do is smash the glass with it I got a pack of four of these for $10.99 the next thing I want to tell you about is shoelace bikes these are super easy and they're cheap this is $6.99 see those little spikes these will really hurt somebody so basically all you do is you put them inside your shoelaces now you can't really see them right but if you kick somebody with this it really will hurt them this thing will shred off skin okay I'm gonna talk to you guys about knives I had an aversion to knives I had never had one until I had a friend a woman on the road that had a bunch and I realized I kept having to say hey junior knife on you we need to cut that cord of fire but after I got my fifth wheel I decided to go ahead and get some knives this is one of my favorites you can see there is a clip right here so you can put it like next to your car seat or in a pocket or slide it in next to your door or wherever you might need one this is the tag for a spring release knife it's $6.99 it's actually really pretty it fits right inside my hand it has a serrated blade if you need that for something and when you're done with it there's a little lever right here you push it and I'm very careful and you close it there's also a bottle opener on here so if you have to chase some jackwagon away you and your friends can just pop a beer and celebrate now I know a lot of you are wondering about cameras personally I don't have any cameras drilled into the outside of my rig if it against that so far you never know I may change my mind but I do have two alternatives this is a van true two-way dashcam so you guys can see right here that it easily goes even off my - I've had other cameras and things that I've affixed to my - and they fall off this one does not it will not only record what's outside but inside I got this because of YouTube and because I also wanted to have footage of what was happening on the road in case I got into an accident and I needed footage for evidence if you have an adapter that will power it which you can buy with it this thing has a motion sensor it will start recording in HD with night vision any time it sees anything moving outside the next thing I want to tell you about is the ye home camera because let's say it's that time of night where the blinds are still down and I have an audible alarm and I know something's out there I actually put this in the door of my RV because look this thing bends you can play basically anywhere so what I do is a velcro it into my front door this is rechargeable on a USB so again any time I'm changing camp I'd go ahead and recharge this here's how you use this you can put a micro SD card in the back but they also have an app and if you have Wi-Fi which I find I normally do now you can actually see through the app on your phone who's outside so I put this up in the front door if anybody comes up the steps to my front door I can see them in real time on my phone this on camera is only twenty to forty nine now let's talk about gear for things get more serious let's say you have the motion lights you've got the audible alarm you have the noise maker you have the cameras you have the bear and pepper spray let's say that that's not getting the job done and you need to have something more inside your rig to defend your space or be able to fight your way out so that you can drive away now I know some people here are going to say just get a gun I'm not going to disclose if I have a gun or if I don't it's a very personal decision that I made for myself and you can make it for yourself but I will tell you what I have to protect myself if things go down now let's say the lights didn't deter them the noise didn't deter them they're already caught on camera they won't leave and they're trying to get in my front door if they force their way into the front door which RV doors not that sturdy I need something to protect myself the minute they get in that door so this is my lightning rod stun baton it is rechargeable so like my other devices every two weeks when I'm traveling I recharge this the reason I chose this over a regular little stun device is I don't want to be that close to people this is 18 inches so I can reach out and actually stun somebody with this without getting too close if they try and grab it out of my hand there are guard strips on here they'll get the same shock if they try and grab it from this end like they would if I shocked them here's the thing about this it's intimidating if you hold this on somebody for a second it's gonna hurt them and they're gonna have some muscle issues but if you hold it on them for more than three seconds they're going to lose their balance be disoriented they're gonna fall they're going to have loss of muscle control I'm gonna go ahead and test-fire it for you so you can see if there's going to be a giant crack hang on to your shorts you have to go ahead and take off the safety so you can see there's a red light on you can only do the test for a second or it will mess up the battery but here we go ready yeah stairs me it'll probably steer them now let's say they're coming in and you need an extra second to get away this is an add a lock portable lock now for me this would not work in my RV door because of the configuration but it works on my bedroom door in my fifth wheel now this is good for an air B&B or hotel rooms what it does is you fit this over the plate in your door you shut the door and you put this lock on and it creates another lock for your door my RV bedroom does not have a lock on it so let's say somebody got in here and I need an extra second I can put this on the door lock it so they're going to have to bust down that door and while they're doing that I'm getting together other weapons that are in the bedroom or I'm using my baton to actually break the glass jump out and run to my car let's say I have a medical issue I can't get to my phone I don't have a cell signal I've been attacked by a bear or a person I can go ahead and use this personal locator beacon that has GPS to call for help there's a button right here it's one time use you lift it up you press a button to turn it on you press another button to activate the GPS this goes out to some satellites that then relay the information to local emergency services so they will come they don't know what's wrong they don't know if it's a heart attack or a bear so it's not as great as if you can call an ambulance but this is a good thing to have in case you're in dire straits I know that if I hit this button in the worst-case scenario somebody will come and help me or find me there's a newer model than this one so I'm going to list that in my gear page which again is below the newer one is actually fifty bucks off right now it's $2.99 it does not require a subscription to any kind of a service to use it it's just a one-time fee you have to register it then you know you just keep it where you need it hit the button if you're in dire straits it's a life-threatening situation and you need help I hope I never have to use this gear things like this are hidden by every window and every door and outside and inside it in my car so I know that I don't have to be scared living an RV life I can do it and if I run into any trouble I have what I need to get out of that situation safely again the link for all this gear is down below I hope you're all doing well out there and you're healthy and staying safe and I hope to see you on the road sometime soon until then everybody out there have happy travels and be free [Music] you [Music]
