my knees do among us what you did among them work among us as you worked among them and as you bring judgment as you surely must remember mercy yes yes justice demanded judgment judgment for sin but the cross shouts it filters it with mercy Psalms 103 and verse 8 God is sheer mercy and grace not easily angered he's rich in love he doesn't endlessly nag and scold nor hold grudges forever he doesn't treat us as our sins deserve nor pay us back in fall for our wrongs as high as heaven is over the earth so strong is his love to those who fear Him and as far as sunrise is from sunset he has separated us from our sins one more Micah chapter 7 and verse 18 where is the God who can compare with you wiping the slate clean of guilt turning a blind eye a deaf ear to the past sins of your prophet prophesied it's through it's through his mercy lamentations 322 said that we are not consumed the Hebrew passage speaks of being ate up in other words it's why certain things that have happened to us don't eat us up or don't have to eat us up yes there are life situations that come our way that would eat us up were it not for His mercy that's new every morning were it not for his compassion that fails not it never fails indeed great is his faithfulness mercy is his specialty he loves to show mercy he loves to heal Souls he hates sin yes but he loves the sinner he loves to and because of his great mercy his love for us was demonstrated dramatically on the cross where he shed his blood and paid for all of our sins and paid for all we would need to become whole again in our spirit our soul and our body we are told the prophetic picture it is so clear at the cross mercy and truth and peace and righteousness they kissed each other at the cross why so that we can be free of guilt free of condemnation and so and please don't forget this awesome part of the promise of the Cross the this awesome promise of the sacrifice of Christ so mercy could flow to heal those traumatized by life or by others or by accidents they could not control had no control over and so that mercy could flow to those who know horrible guilt and condemnation over something they could have controlled they just didn't they still do it Jesus came to heal the trauma of life scars scars and times that follow us that that found us he comes to end the nightmare that's bound to our souls and cycles relentlessly through our minds he comes to extend supernatural mercy divine mercy he comes to end it giving us a future that is filled with hope the cross reveals in judgment God was remembering mercy judgment was kissed by Mercy at Calvary's cross why so we could be made whole again in every area of our lives he specializes in mercy his his unconditional love declared on the cross mercy in 40 different verses in the old and the New Testament forty different verses say God's mercy endures forever mercy so descriptive in the old and the New Testament in the original words used in the Greek or the Hebrew to describe mercy mercy is the Hebrew word K seed and cusine means to be kind or it means to show loving-kindness or to be merciful you know so Kasim means to to have pity but it primarily means acts of kindness or demonstrations of kindness the Greek word for mercy is Ellie OS and a Leo's means compassionate treatment in your words or in your deeds in your actions it means forgiveness extended for the removal of the consequences of sin or the penalty the penalty of sin la Ossa means quick response and special and immediate regard for those in misery Allie Yost's immediate regard Ellie OS immediate regard for those in misery mercy Ellie OS it means acts of loving-kindness and acts of favoring Grace's that turn away misery so life is lived with great expectation here that Ellie OS it turns away misery so life can be lived again with great expectation that's supernatural mercy and life kay said le oz mercy God comes to kiss away misery at the cross what a description Jesus came to not just forgive you but to deal with any of the residual emotional consequences he comes to as Savior and Lord turn away misery he comes to be your Savior who quickly responds to to misery life being how it is on this fallen planet it sometimes passes through times that scar us times when the situation calls us misery it causes us pain but Jesus came and he comes to heal us so life can be healed and lived with great expectation again I mean the image of the Prophet that he paints his so indelible it's so loving it is so caring he kisses away misery years ago I heard the story of a man who took his his young teenage son ten year old young ten year old son to hear a war hero he had been wounded in action and had spent many months in the hospital recovering from his wounds and the soldier was being honored at a an awards ceremony for his bravery in battle and his hometown was giving him an award to go along with the many rewards that our nation had already bestowed up on him and this man thought it would be good for us it's young 10 year old boy to experience something like that so he took him to the ceremony and they set they're listening and inspired by this hero's story after the ceremony there was a long line that formed the to come up and shake this soldier's hand and thanked him for his service and the dad thought well his son should also experience that he and he and the boy would go through the line and so this young boy as they were passing through the line heard statements like this thank you for your service thank you for being willing to go and fight for us thank you for for your sacrifice so that we could be free thank you sir for leaving your family to protect our family thank you for giving your time and risking your life for for our nation all good things and and things that certainly should be said I've said similar things to men and women that have served in our armed forces myself I think we should as much as we possibly can finally this man in his son stood before the soldier the dad shook the soldier's hand and said I appreciate your willingness to fight for our nation then this war hero looked over and he saw the unten year old boy and the soldier reached out his hand to to the young boy to shake it and the boy then looked up into the face of that soldier and it was then that that he noticed the right side of the soldiers face was disfigured something even couldn't see very clearly from back in the back where he was was sitting a grenade had exploded and and took part of his face away and it looked so different now that they were up close the soldier's ear was plastic his skin was stretched in and broken and burned looking and the burn scar was discolored and really easy to see the military doctors had had done what they could but the effect of the explosion was was obvious and it was dramatic this young boy now shaking hands with the war hero who had saved the life of the others in his squadron by his brave action this young boy looks up into the face of the soldier and supposing he too should say something he said I appreciate your scars his dad stopped others in line stopped suddenly there was silence no one else had had said that town officials and people standing close enough to here stood and they just reverently watched the soldier smiled and said to the boy thank you son I appreciate that scars tell a story behind every scar there is a story of how someone received that scar scars are there a healed place that's engraved it's in scripted with a memory I've got a few scars on my body I could tell you how I got every every single one of them I got a scar on my foot I got when I was 5 years old in Gatlinburg acting crazy and jumping in a creek I have some on my shins from football and so on I'm sure that you have a few if you've lived long and you remember you remember the time that it happened this soldier scars told a story a story of Valor yes a story of bravery conquering fear but also inscribed upon that soldier's face the scars tell a story of pain because no one gets a scar without it hurting a little bit and sometimes hurting a whole lot his scars spoke of trauma tragedy operations rehabilitation misery periods of despair hopelessness loss grief inscribed in the scar itself is the reason behind the scar the great evangelist I believe greatest evangelist Billy Graham used to tell the story of a young mother whose toddler daughter was playing in the kitchen as the mother was cooking supper somehow that little girl had pulled herself up by the stove and a pot of boiling oil began to fall towards this toddler the young mother instantly for the pot but it spared the the toddler but the hot oil splashed all over an Oliver hands burning them horribly severe burns after many surgeries skin grafts she did gain some control some use of her of her hands but they were horribly disfigured they were scarred so whenever she went out in public this lady always wore gloves the little girl of course knew of the scars on her mother's hands but she never really knew the story behind it the mother had never told her simply said that she had been burned very very badly few years later when the little girl had grown and was now a teenager she wanted to have her first slumber party and so one was planned on her birthday just before all the other girls arrived this girl took her gloves to her mother because she didn't want the other girls to to see her mom's hands it would be a little bit embarrassing but on this day the little girl brought the gloves but she finally asked the question mom how did you how did you get those scars I don't I've never really heard what happened and her mother knowing that she's going to find out sooner or later she might as well tell her and so she told her daughter the whole story she told her the reason behind all those scars the skin grafts the surgeries upon hearing the story inscribed into those scars portrayed into those scars the girl pulled the gloves away saying don't wear them I want all my friends to know what you did for me later on as years rolled by the little girl grew and had children of her own and she would refer to those scars simply as her mother's love scars scars tell a story inscribed into the scar itself is the reason behind the scar now of course not all scars are physical some some you can't really see some are emotional but nevertheless they are real nevertheless they Mar us they Mar our life they they affect us they affect our actions some are relational broken relationships can scarred you some are caused by accidents others by abuse some by situations that just got out of control but the glorious picture of the cross is filled with grace hope love and mercy Jesus came and his body was scarred so that the scars of life for whatever reason that you and I received can be healed he came to heal life promise and free us from the residual effects he to kiss away the misery can there be a more tender portrayal of the Savior he kisses away misery he kisses away life drama he kisses away the scarring times and he restores the souls the steadfast love of the Lord never ceases His mercies never come to an end they are new every morning fresh every morning great yes yes hi my name is Holly starting at the age of seven and my parents divorced and it was really hard for me and my three other siblings I had to move back and forth from Ohio to Florida Florida and Ohio so I spent the summers with my dad in Ohio and then I had spent time with my mom in Florida and having a church life was definitely hard to balance so mostly I would go to church in church camp during the summers in Ohio and that's where I went to southern Ohio youth camp and it was awesome and I loved it and I met amazing people but when I went back home to Florida it was like I didn't really have a structured church life so it was really hard when I went to middle school I was bullied a lot and I didn't even know what insecurities were but I learned that from being there and then that's when I started to have a relationship with the Lord and I that summer I think it was eighth grade it was the end of middle school I went back to Ohio back camp and of course when you go back to like a church service or a camp service everything's great but when you have to go back to reality you feel like you know there are things in the world that can distract you and I felt like that's what happened when I went into high school high school was when my anxiety got worse I felt like I wasn't myself and I didn't really have a structured church life I was going to different churches but I didn't find the right Church for me I thought boys would make me happy and they didn't and so from eleventh grade I started to have anxiety so bad where I'd missed weeks of school I stayed in my room I'd be super depressed and I just remember journaling and writing down my thoughts and hopefully one day I was praying that I would be able to share it to people it was so hard where I remember one time I was in a corner having like a paper bag and trying to breathe through it because I couldn't breathe properly there was another night where I felt like I just didn't want the pain through my chest anymore I just felt like I couldn't really communicate to people and I couldn't talk to anyone and I remember like seeing this thing of pills and I remember that I wanted to take it I remember God telling me that everything was going to be okay that he was going to protect me and I just remember putting the pills back on the table I'm very thankful for God helping me that time because I feel like that was a very vulnerable time for me and God was there every step of the way and so I trusted him and I started going to a church called Christ Fellowship it's in Florida and my friends really encouraged me and helped me I really felt like I was doing great things so then that following year were senior year I was ready to graduate and I was so excited and I felt like the Lord was doing great things another hardship happened and I had a friend passed away from suicide and it was really hard for me because I felt like I felt really hurt and sad but I realized that that wasn't God's fault it was just a testimony that I can tell other people that are you know younger or the next generation that it's okay to go through this that God's with you through it all so I graduated and I was going to church but I felt like I wanted to run away I wanted to go away so I tried to join the army and God was telling me do not do it you don't you have more in life to do this I have more plans for you so I prayed and I prayed and I ended up going to Lee University and that is where I got involved in a lot of ministries my campus choir I was a floor leader with the dorm that I lived in so I eventually moved to Ohio after Lee University and I started to go to Miami University and that is where God has done a lot of things I felt like I've still had anxiety but it wasn't as bad as it used to be and I remember actually recently I felt the Lord speak to me and he said that you know everything's gonna be okay and you're gonna be anxiety is gonna be defeated and it's not gonna control you anymore and so I remember praying and staying up and telling God like I am gonna get through this with your help ever since then I've thought about like the stuff that I've been through and I feel like if I didn't go through those things I wouldn't have a testimony to share I think another reason why it's so important to talk about your scars is because you know people around you might be going through the same thing my sister she was 12 years old when she spoke about her depression and anxiety and suicide thoughts and I think that there are people that really really need to hear this that you are loved and God loves you and so I'm so thankful that God has brought me through it because I've could have said yes to so many things in high school or middle school but I didn't and I am so thankful that God has given me the people that I've loved in the churches and when it comes to my scars I share that as a testimony to people who feel like they can't be heard and I'm so thankful for what God is going to continue to do through my life zechariah chapter 13 and verse 1 says this on that day referring to the crucifixion day on that day a fountain will be opened for sin and for uncleanness years ago as I was reading that I began to wonder why does it read like that of course the fountain is is open for sin I understand that but why would it read sin and then add and uncleanness we know it's for sin why uncleanness so I looked up the word uncleanness in the Hebrew language it is the Hebrew word nidaa and it refers to stigma type stigma type sins or sins that scar sins that that Mar sins that leave a stain behind and it gave several example one was child molestation oh that's a sin for sure but it's scars that child it breaks them it wounds them deeply and it stains their their emotions it's it's just not sin it's steeper there's a stain there it's Dada it's a stigma it's a it's a stain another is rape of course it's a sin but rape scars it it's an emotional trauma and it can Mar life any kind of sexual sin is included in nadal including prostitution and often you see in people's lives that they come to Christ they're forgiven of their sins and yes they're saved they're going to heaven and yet they still have the bag of guilt and condemnation of that stain that stigma they they feel unclean I've dealt with many that had those kind of things and they still feel unworthy or guilty but thankfully dramatically and emphatically the cross declares the fountain is flowing not just for the sin but for the stains it's it's room there to remove the scarring and the stain that is left behind I remember years ago I we had a stain in the driveway and I I watched that and washed it and washed it and it was absolutely clean I watched it you can still see the stain so I went and I got something stronger to go deeper and deep down and lift that stain that's what the cross is about Jesus came to forgive the sin to make you free but he can go deeper and begin to lift the stain to where you can't see it anymore it doesn't affect anymore you look there's no guilt there's no condemnation there's wholeness he came to make you whole again no guilt no stain when I was a young boy there was a song they used to sing in camp meetings it went like this dark the sin that soiled man's nature along the distance that he fell far removed from hope hope in heaven near to deep despair in hell but there was a fountain opened and the blood of God's own son purifies the soul reaches deeper than the stain Dean has gone there is a fountain and at that fountain of the cross mercy kissed away mystery no matter your condition today whether it's the first or the second maybe you need forgiveness and the fountain is there to forgive sin yes maybe that's the need or maybe it's the past that is miserable it's baggage and things that still are hounding your life there is a powerful message today from the cross Jesus wants to make you whole again not just forgive the sin but to lift the guilt the condemnation and every stain so that you are absolutely and completely whole
