Scale Armor, Part 2 - Time to Shoot It!

okay heavy crossbow versus scale armor all right so this is a pretty thick bodkin point see what there does you so this is where it hits and it dented that scale quite a lot but didn't get anywhere and yeah this is why I got this a lot cheaper for testing I'll get a rusty that is and yeah this is a very very thick blunt bodkin so this is more of a needle bodkin much finer point that were worried about the steel because this is apparently very soft steel and it's deformed already on earlier attempt yeah you can really see the difference that the sharper point makes the blunt stuff just deforms it but doesn't go in this one actually punched through the scale and let me see did get oh yeah it actually got into the torso about I don't know like three four centimeters not too bad yeah let's see did it get worse yeah it got a little worse come on camera focus there we go yeah this should really be harder steel but despite it already being somewhat bent at first it's all made it so don't really have high hopes for this kind of bolt but I want to see what it does and one interesting observation on the side when you crank this crossbow here and you're dealing with uneven ground it makes it a bit harder because it shifts like I don't have a very firm hold on the the stirrup there so it makes it a little bit trickier to put the force into cranking it not a big deal but well I did not expect that so it actually entered between two scales and ripped the leather apart in between huh interesting you can see where it hit here sorry about the wind noise I cannot change that I do not have power over the weather quite yet I'm working on it and yep there it is that's gonna be a little painful right there there it is inside the jail tour so it's not easy to show you can totally see that oh that's that's in there vertically mmm okay now to get it out that might be a little tricky looks like I almost hit the same hole again it's just a little bit further up on this one did not do a whole lot I mean it went through but not very far because they are not connected like to Jason scales are not actually connected this can slip through with lamellar you have everything interconnected as well just went through in between the scales there pretty good time for the percussion pistol 50 grains of black powder with a 54 caliber patched round ball yeah that did a number on it Wow it tend to that scale very hard and it folded it in and then it went in there Hodder yet this is where tore through the cloth and there we have the entry wound so here's a deformed blood ball and this was on the inside of the armor so it went through the front layer of the armor through the torso and then it was stopped by the back of the armor so in other words it did nothing to protect the wearer okay let's crank up the anachronism dial to a hundred nine millimeter versus scale armor [Music] [Applause] you and surprisingly at punch clean through you would need much thicker steel you I think this may have pulled in some rust and dirt from the armor into the wound that's nasty yeah you can see the exit wounds here and there's a no millimeter bullet no surprise here of course the two to three goes all the way through this you need a whole lot more to stop that that's a dirty hole don't demonetised me youtube that's not what I meant wow I think it actually partially melted the gel to this that's what it feels like and this is where it came up [Music] [Music]
