full with blessings remember text this morning is taken from jonah 4 11 verse 11 and it's from the new king james version he says and should i not pity the navy that great city in which are more than one hundred and twenty thousand person who cannot discern their right hand from their left hand and much more it can cattle that is the word of god good morning and happy sabbath welcome to williston um sabot school uh we'll be looking at in lesson 12 the restless reluctant prophets before we start just listen to the word of prayer holy one of israel creator of all flesh reveal of all truth the sender of true prophet we thank you for the written word that he has given us to your inspired prophet as we are about to open the sacred page we pray that our holy spirit may hope in the mind of our understanding whatever you reveal we pray that our heart may be receptive that your name may be glorified in jesus name i pray amen now i want to say welcome to all those online you can share as usual in our study and send in your answers or share your thoughts it's delighted once again to be the heirs of god amen amen we'll be looking at the mercy of god the reluctant restless prophet and the wicked city of nineveh the historical content what we're about to study parallel our present reality so i'll just be bullet pointing um some of the things that i gleaned from the study here the the ninevites has almost fill up their cup of iniquity and so god who has no pleasure in the death of the wicked commissioned the prophet jonah to warn this wicked inhabitants jonah was a hebrew prophet we first see him in um second kings 22 23. he was a prophet from the northern kingdom of israel but this time he was called and sent to nineveh to one a pagan nation a nation who is an enemy to israel a nation who is cruel a nation who does not respect or follow the part of righteousness and so jonah was reluctant to go to this place to give the monday that god has given him and so he decided to go to joppa he appeared he pays passage and instead of going west he decided to go east running away from god you can run you can hide but you can't hide away from the omnipresent all right now in order for jonah to be a prophet he must be one who walking with the lord yes why is it he was so reluctant to go on this mission i've just read the state of the city is anyone else have any idea why jonah was reluctant to go to anything so he decided yes amen praise the lord you're watching the chat i think that jonah understood how difficult it was to change from a sinner to become someone righteous jonah knew that these people were so wicked and the depth of the wickedness it was impossible for him to go out there do is preach his message and that these people were being converted jonah knew that that was our task why am i wasting my time god is asking me to save these people who cannot be saved according to jonah so he felt that it was a wasted effort to waste his time to go down there and preach to these godless people um and that is why he thought i'm not wasting my time um sometimes that happened in in the times in which we live why am i going to preach to that prostitute she's not going to do it okay can i just respond to that when god call god know the outcome god knows the heart our duty is to go jonah did not know jonah perceived i also think in addition to what elder leslie said i think um there is a flip side to that because i believe jonah jonah recognized the fact that god is a is a merciful god and and the jonah was very very concerned about his own standing he was concerned about what people would think about him because he was going to go and preach that god is going to destroy the city anyway and then all the people turn and accept god and then god recant and do not destroy the city then he would look like a false prophet and so he was concerned about his image and so he decided you know what it's better not to go thank you and this story is also about how god is passionate very passionate about saving lost people and it says he will do whatever god takes to redeem his people and the stone the story of jonah is not only about saving nineveh but it's also saving jonah the reluctant prophet amen the lesson highlight that jonah highlighted that jonah wasn't an inexperienced prophet he was quite experienced but then i began to wonder how much he understood about god about god because here's the prophet who says yes i will go and then try to run away from the commitment that he made to god does he know did he realize that he couldn't hide from god amen thank you um jonah to be a prophet you should be acquainted with the word of god right and jonah did not read gen 3 16 he did not read ezekiel 32 11 where god says that he had no pleasure in the death of the wicked but that wicked should turn and he did not read psalms 139 7 that says wherever you go you though you take the wings of the man to the depths of the sea god is there i don't believe that jonah don't know i believe that when you get when you are in a rebellious state the mind become insane and you do things out of the ordinary because you're not walking in the light that has been revealed so your mind become clouded and so jonah believed that he could run from god but god sent a storm the show is omnipresent right now when we look at jonah situation refusing to go and to minister to a different nation probably because of prejudice probably because the enemy to israel and he just desired a destruction how does that translate into today's reality if god says we should go in the ghetto where there's gun violence crime violence where places that people is not so favorable we choose to go to the nice places or we quickly want to go to the place where the message is needed most emergency cases yeah i think that's a very very important point to raise the elder because for what i can see many christians i know better than they talk about the bad things that's happening out in the community they talk about knife crime they talk about drugs they talk about all these things but when it comes to going into the community and dealing with those issues they will they will only talk about it but they will not really do what they're supposed to do is that lack of fate reluctant rebellions what is it are we in agreement with elder that we don't go the places where we're supposed to go or we don't go none at all i don't agree with ella clarence sorry i think that those are the communities where people um witness more than in more affluent places if you go into a more affluent places of our society the church is as event um sort of abandon those areas if you go into those communities you will not find churches if you go into poor crime-ridden areas that is where you find a lot of the um social gospel is being preached a lot of effort like food banks and other efforts is being carried out by the church so i think the church is present more in these deprived areas than they are in the affluent area so it is not those areas that are abandoned by the church but rather the affluent areas okay thank you okay so this one's from the youtube it says i think jonah represents us all in that whenever god instructs us we process it first we shouldn't process it we are limited in seeing the end results in fact carnal minds can't evaluate god amen amen god already prepared a way before we send us we call the equips and therefore we should ready to go we must know the god in whom we serve that he's able to protect and he's able to bring foolish to what you have sent us to um to do okay so jonah bought his vessel and he on his way 220 000 mile away from where we supposed to go going in the opposite direction so god sent a storm to wake jonah up to show his omnipresent not only that he appointed also a fish to take him back to where he has been coming from take him back to the direction that he's supposed to go now when we disobey it not every storm god will send storms in our life right and the storm is not to destroy us but is to save us so this storm was a saving storm this fish was the transport jonah back so god was teaching jonah listen yes because before he prays god preserve him in the in the in the fish belly well he'd probably pray on his way down but we see that in every circumstances that we faced in life we must first consult he who is able to deliver us yes so shown on his way down in the fish belly spent three days then he prayed and in jonah two we see that it lifts his highs in repentance to the temple to the sanctuary psalm 77 verse 13 says thy way o lord is in the center and this is where jonah directs his prior straight to god's strong room and god answered his prayer and in his mercy the fish spit on our heart and god called him the second time to go and deliver the same message the message was in one sentence in 40 days nineveh shall be overcho one sentence that jonah need to carry that was not a burden right didn't need to carry a whole one hour sermon just one sentence yes nobody nobody um if you like choose to be a prophet i can't just get up and decide i'm going to be a prophet um god is the one who calls you to be a prophet um jonah was specifically called and and he had a relationship with god and and for sure god had um given him all that he needed to have the question is the question is um and this relates to perhaps a little bit before you've made a point about the fish um are we someone says we you jonah represent us but are we like jonah sent specifically on a task given that jonah was called specifically to go to this specific place and was given a specific message that in in 40 days this place will be destroyed um is it the same as we are called to go out into the community or is there a difference between the two calls okay jonah was one individual and the whole city which was the biggest reformation or revival has taken place that's still in the guinness book of record there hasn't nothing to compare with a whole city the king and everyone turned to god but god has called us in matthew 28 19 and 20 goyi in all the world so while jonah was called to go to a specific city to spread the good news of to tell of the people to repent god is also called us or called by his name you don't have to be a prophet but you are called you are sent to the world to tell of god's saving grace and the destruction that will take the world when jesus returned so we are all called we are all sent to tell of the good news of salvation that soul may be repented is the answer question elder morning brother good morning how i look at how i look at this that um when i study this lesson it shows me that the creatures that god created is more willing to do god's bid than human being because that fish that was in the ocean i think here when the water was troubled the fish was right along the boat because soon as jonah said to them throw me over in the water and the water will cease the storm will cease and what i started i said well the fish was right there god directly stay there soon as he go over swallow him you see so the fish was very important because god created everything and everything is supposed to follow in god's way so we must be obedient amen thank you for that the acts know their master but israel knew not their god the heavenly clear god glory and man's sin and come short of the glory of god when god said to jonah arise and go to navy was it that he didn't know he he didn't know which direction evening is when he arrives girl said go to harzone you're going to get he's a prophet and he'll know what what going to happen but because him he believed that i don't know that he believed that god would save my he would hide from god remember when shipmaster came up and said to me why slip us down he didn't go to anyone or he go to one man i said why sleep is down and that's with that's where that's where jonah's troubles start to start to come from because george that's it and jonah going to say why what am i doing here god didn't have to come i'm to come here and i'm going the wrong way so don't matter what you do where god shadows don't worry if god send us no more trying to hide because you cannot hide from god and what is good ask you to do amen so we hide in a mission commission we hide in various ways so yes um when jonah entered the city he just had one was a sentence in 40 days you're going to be destroyed so they must have had some idea before that as they wouldn't have repented so quickly because jonah message didn't point to god it didn't point to anything else just said in 40 days and you're going to be destroyed so maybe they have had prior warning that this was going to happen because they wouldn't have repented to eat so quickly um possible they could hear about the fish that spit out the man on the ocean and this was jonah and probably still have those mock on him and they can see it i don't know so the congregation is getting up there before me so i'm going to work out which one just a couple of comments i think god wants us to have his mind and see the need um sorry and see the needs where you are um i'm going to miss that one out let me just go to this last one we are mandated to do god's will above our own desires this is our daily struggle lesson learned obedience is the ultimate message here amen amen god mind is to do the will of the father just a quick comment um i think that the story of jonah was sort of like a type of jesus's mission this is the first time and the only time in the bible we have a case where an entire city was converted i mean why did god pick nineveh there were sinful people in the world everywhere but god why would god select nineveh and why would at the preaching of a of a prophet everyone was converted and the bible was at stake to say how evil these people of of nineveh was however remember in the new testament jesus himself said that the last generation will look for signs but the only sign that they would receive was the sign of the prophet jonah i think that jonah's story represented christ's story of trying to rescue a sinful world and back to ella keith's question and how it might be related what i'm saying is the work of jonah was specifically associated with the work of jesus i don't know if me as an individual keith can say that i represent or i follow in the footsteps of jonah in my mission to the world i am not sure i can say that i can think that um jonah was especially uh a type of who jesus and the work of jesus god man see on the outside but god sees the heart we don't know the heart of people no matter what situation conditions state again god knows the heart our duty is to tell them of christ god knows because that message was designed to bring about the change and god knew that the people repented because he declared the end from the beginning sister happy sabbath now here god equipped jonah he's gonna give a message and he followed through but got frightened and ran away and as he ran away you know god knows our thoughts god knows our secrets and for him running away he suffered the consequences of staying in the fishing building for three days and these three days references jesus resurrection and his his death and his resurrection amen so to now obey god to be rebellious there's consequences as the songwriters say oh what needless pain we bear or because we do not carry everything to god in prayer so we are learning today to be obedient and wherever god sent us we must go because he already prepared a way for the people to accept him you need to sow the seed he's dealing with the heart we need to just sow the seed monday says three days rest but um when i look in um jonah 2 what i sees here in jonah 2 and 2 i see unrest it says he was afflicted and in verse 4 it says in verse 7 it says my soul fainted and that's when he cries out in the belly of the fish and god commands the fish to spit him out so this shows us how merciful god is even when we disobedient and we don't follow the instruction on the counsel that he gives to us if we turn to him in prayer he will hear us providing that the heart is now set to do his will amen just a short one jonah had pride or beat false pride thinking what people might say about him if he was wrong but he needed to trust god amen so you know isaiah he says that when he sees the glory and the purity of god he said i'm a man of unclean lips and i dwell amongst people unclean people um talking about these the sinful habits and nature of men and so even prophet himself does not come up to the measure that god intended humanity to be we can see that god shows us from the highest to the lowest that when we take our eyes off god when we don't follow in his path then the devil can take us in the next direction so no matter who you are what profession qualification status you have in life god is your source of strength and he's the one that is able to keep you and he's the one that directs our parts the step of a good man is hearted by the lord so um so jonah faces and rests he cries out and he was delivered amen need to say something and yeah um i agree with um ellen leslie that jonah was really pointing to jesus however the story of jonah jonah although journal was used as an example god was speaking to us true jonah as we see jonah was called to save one city but jesus is now asking us to go out to the world to every corner to every village to everywhere that we can go to save as many people as we can and to take his message to them so i think that jonah was the example but the message is for us in this time it's also clearly a message for us sometimes god has a work for us to do and we sometimes hesitate to do it hence daily we have to die to self and let our father use us to do his will no matter how uncomfortable that may make us amen praise the lord for that um you know jonah was a hebrew and it was fine when god sent him to the northern kingdom or to judah wherever god sent him within the body of israel he was comfortable with that but when god sent him outside of the body of israel then it becomes a problem is that so with us we just witness the people that look like us are we just witness to people that look like us we don't witness to our european brothers the asian chinese and all that we is that is that also a problem within bidding us as well elder paul that's exactly what i was trying going to say jonah was obedient but then he had to forgive the ninevites and dinovites captured the jew the people they enslaved them so we can be obedient but we have to forgive and i think jonah found it hard to forgive the ninvites he knew what they were what they'd done they killed the people they did atrocities and so we what if someone asked me to go and and witness to someone who had murdered all my family how would i feel to go you know someone killed my son how would i feel would i be able to forgive them and go and witness and draw them to god i think that's part of obedience as well as the forgiveness of others thank you for that the bible say you must love your enemies and therefore we have to love the way god love we send the reign on the just on the undress i do believe that jonah had a number of personal problems and a number of personal issues um you know if we were told to go into afghanistan now many of us would shy away from our pastors would definitely shy away from that because the first thing on their mind is their death they're certainly not going to come out alive and that's one of the issues i think jonah had as well but he did have this these prejudices and i think jonah undermined the power of god to save you know um you know um why should god's bothered about saving them you know they're not don't deserve being saved you know why should we bother about it why what hope of that drunken person because they all that drug addict is coming into the church because what you see them is a bad influence we already tick the boxes and say you know that person is not going to be we've got to keep an eye on that person because we know what influence what what bad influence that person is going to have on us and when you look at israel compared with the the um the never in the right who was worse i don't think god's people was any better than than those god was trying to save that's right because they have the law the oracles they see god's glory they should have been better but the ninevites repent and one sentence isn't that marvelous okay so when he give the message he find himself a nice spot to see oh god is gonna destroy this place you know he knows about oh god destroy the antediluvian world and sodom and all of that so he's sitting there looking now to see how god is going to destroy this place and to his surprise nothing happened he get upset he gets angry because he's looking forward for these people to be destroyed by the way the enemy of israel anyway we want them flattened get them out the way they are our enemies and we sometimes like that and people are enemies we just want god to just take them off the face of the earth we haven't got no compassion to say even though you've done me wrong i forgive you and the lord love you and we wrestle not against flesh and blood how are we we are now learning um many things from this historical event that take place and god in the in in in the in the in the sun god sent um what was the name of it the gore the girl the things that sheltered him or curd yes and that covers jonah and then god sent the worm to eat it up and jonah was upset and god is saying why did he upset the people there's so much people in that city that 200 000 that don't know they left from their right meaning they have no spiritual concept and understanding of how to behave how to live how to function and they repented in suck lots showing humility and turned to me and you i show you mercy in the fish belly save your life and know you don't want me to show mercy to these people and people is like that we want god to show us mercy but we don't want god to show mercy to other people right you're not supposed to be like that so what we can um glean from that i just go to what brother leslie was saying about jonah was in the fish belly for three days christ was in the art of the earth when he was took at gets enemy that was when his persecution begins so thursday night friday saturday raise up sunday morning so that makes it three day entry night it was in the um the fish belly christ um begin his ministry at the river jared and he was anointed he went into the wilderness for 40 days jonah announced god is going to destroy an even 40 days jonah was spit out of the fish belly christ was resurrected and we see there's a lot of comparison there where jonah illustrate christ's um debt and his resurrection and also his is his ministry okay just gonna wrap up so it was a two-way street yep jonah also need to find even though you know god but you need a closer walk yeah you need to understand who god is and to know that god is a just god and god desire to save all humanity and therefore none is exempt from salvation everyone god desire to be repented to receive salvation and saving grace and jonah was lacked in that he was lacking his understanding probably that only israelite was favorable and no one else and therefore we must not lapse into that situation to believe that because we keep sabbath and we claim to be commandment keepers god of his people everywhere amen and they need to be reached without a love our message and our way of life thank you for listening and god bless you as you continue to give him the praise the thanks the honor and the glory amen i don't know who's gonna round up we're here one more time to praise the lord i'm just about to do the listen review and our lesson states that the lesson tells us about the restless prophets one of the most interesting stories in and announce their impending judgment for a reason not mentioned until near the end of the book jonah was not only israelitish but in the narrower sense but galilean he seems to have lived and worked in the latter part of the ninth century bc on in the earlier path of the eighth his one prediction recorded in kings of the attention extension of the kingdom of samaria from the orientees to the dead sea is it said to have been fulfilled in the reign of jeroboam 2. bc 790 to 749 or 782-2741 it has generally been in fed that in reference is in certainty still jonah may be reasonably regarded to some extent a contemporary of jeroboam if it's not mentioned in kings or any other connection of jonah with the assyrian but is quite a possibility that the memory of a visit to nineveh was preserved by tradition in some lost historical work for bc from bc 7a2 to 745 assyrian was comparatively weak and was governed by relatively assignment kings i will repeat that insignificant kings the fear that god will repent of his purpose and spare ninevites jonah refuses to obey in order to escape from god immediate jurisdiction goes down to japan and book himself in a ship mannered by the hidden for tashas jonah here he was the prophet of god called by god and yet what he ran away from god's calling while on the ship a violent stamp comes on and the prayers of the mariners to their gods prayed but no avail they conclude that there is someone on board who has offended the deity and caused lots to discover the culprit the lord phil and jonah who acknowledge his guilt and advises them to cast him overboard after making photo efforts to bring the course on jonah they asked that they will throw jonah into the sea with the result that the storm at the once would subside the wandering the gods of the hebrew jonah is swallowed by a fish appointed for the purpose and remains in the belly of the whale three days and three nights during which time he prays his prayer which fits the greater part of the chapter is rather a psalm of praise psalms 29 22 and verse 9 says but you are he who took me out of the womb you made me trust while on my mother's breast jonah prayed could you believe it there are quite a few of praises in psalms and you will read them in your own time psalms 3 psalms 8 just a few psalms 18 142 and psalms 50. when you read these psalms you will understand when what jonah was going through that make him sing praises to god he is then cast by the fish on the land in the dramatic way to change his mind and obey the lord he does so but then only to do what to complain that the people to whom he was called to witness actually repented and spared destruction mission accomplished hallelujah what an example of someone not at rest not at peace even to the point where he cries out to god to take his own life that it is better for him to die than to live one greater than jonah is here the savior of the world jonah is now commanded to discharge the neglected duty goes to nineveh and delivers his message over a third of the city kings and people repent and show their repentance to god to the public in a fast which even includes the dramatic and domestic animals and prayed their penitence and prayer are accepted to the prophet disgust an angry restless missionary as he salt in the booth outside the city waiting to see the issues a remarkable series of experience is arranged for his instruction the shooting up of the castor oil plant as something a bottle guard appointed by god which delighted him by his welcome shade the killing of the plant by the worm also appointed by god and the spring up of the hot wind which also blows by divine appointment so that the now unshaded prophet is no now tormented by the heat that's like elijah he longs for death first king 19 and verse 4 but he himself went a day's journey into the change into the charge given him jonah had been entrusted with a heaven responsibility yet he who had abided abetted him go was able to sustain his servant and grant him success and the prophet obey unquestionably unquestionably he will have been spared many better experience and would have been blessed abundantly yet in the hour of jonah's despair the lord did not desert him through a series of trials and strange provisions the prophet's confidence in god and in his infinite power to save was to be revived lng white prophets and kings page 266 thousand can be reached in the most simple and humble way the most intellectual those who are looked upon as the world's most gifted men and women are often refreshed by the simple words of one who loves god and who can speak of that love it's natural as the whirling speaks of the things and interest him deeply lng white christ object lesson page 2 3 2 the wilderness and came and sat down jonah was terrified under a broom tree and he prayed that he might die and said it is enough now lord take my life for i am no better than my father's even i elijah speak the same words he longs for death when he steals sulk it is pointed out to him that if he a man cares for the plant which sprang up and perish so quickly and which was in no way the product of his toil how much more must god care for the great city which he has so many thousands of little children and cattle the sam fits the experiences of the shipwreck marines who has reached the show rather than the situation ascribed to jonah 2 verse 3 and 6. there are echoes of passages in psalms 3 and the others i mentioned earlier which implies that which had a considerable considerable part of our presence before him and so points to the study rather than the belly of the fish jude told us in verse 24 and 25 now to him who is able to keep you from stumbling and to present you faultless before the presence of his glory with exceedingly joy to god our savior who alone is wise be glory and majesty dominion and power both now and forevermore amen happy sabbath everyone thank you [Music] we have sung this song for so many years but it still has new meaning every time listen that's ephesians chapter four verses 11 to 14 and i'll read in your hearing and he himself gave some to the apostles some prophets some evangelists and some pastors and teachers for the equipping of the saints for the work of the ministry for the edifying of the body of christ till we all come to the unity of the faith and the knowledge of the son of god to a perfect man to the measure of the stature of the fullness of christ that we should no longer be children tossed to and fro and carried about with every wind of doctrine by the trickery of men in the cunning craftiness of deceitful plotting i pray that you will enjoy and praise god in spirit and in truth today are you ready praise the lord church it's good to be in the house of the lord amen it doesn't sound like you're convinced i'll say that again it's good to be in the house of the lord isn't it [Music] the song says what can wash away my sins and the answer is nothing but the blood of jesus [Music] what can wash god is great please be seated how great is our god there is no one greater than god there is no time for a tithe an offering now as adventists we all know that there our tithes are mandated by god is our commitment with god that we should contribute the powerful earnings to god however our offering is based upon our generosity but our church cannot function without our offerings i know that sometimes when we pay our charts many people still put everything in envelope and do not identify what is types and what is offering i'd just like to remind you all that it's very very important that we make a clear distinction as to what it starts and what he's offering let us pray heavenly father our god and our creator we thank you for seeing so many faces back at church to steal god we thank you for all those who are still watching online oh god and father we know week by week as more and more people return to church we've just continued to praise your name and ask you to keep us safe and guide us you have taken us through this long journey oh god and you'll continue to lead us father as we're about to make all offerings to you by way of chats and offering this morning i pray that you bless all those who are able to give and all those who are not able to give please bless them just as much of god for we have all passed through hard times some people have lost their jobs some people are working part time it is tough times are there god but you know the hearts of all men so father we give you thanks and praise for everyone who can give and those who cannot give amen the child can be placed into the bucket just at the front [Music] the bible says if we lift up jesus he says to him so we want him to open the eyes of our heart so we can lift him up and see him lifting higher [Music] let's all sit together open [Music] i want to see you [Music] i want to see you open the eyes open the eyes of my heart lord open the eyes of my heart i want to see you i want to see [Music] you shining in the light of your glory [Music] pour out your power and love as we sing [Music] pour out your power and love as [Music] open the eyes of my heart lord open the eyes of my [Music] open the eyes [Music] to see you [Music] shining in the light of your glory pour out your powerful love as we sing [Music] shining in the light of your glory pour out your power and love [Music] holy holy holy holy holy holy [Music] holy holy holy [Music] i want to see [Music] as we transition into our time of prayer we just get to sing about the mercy of god how great it is and how it's always there for us no matter how far we go his mercy is always there [Music] [Music] is [Music] i [Music] is [Music] [Applause] [Music] i day after day [Music] is great is [Music] [Music] we would like to approach the throne of god in prayer shall be borrowed as we speak to our father our god and our merciful father we have had a very difficult week brother and sister philip has lost a nephew in the prime of his life sister carlene blake yesterday got the news that her brother in jamaica is dead the chisholm sisters in quick succession lost a cousin uncle and yesterday their father we are in a difficult time oh lord but as our pastor reminded us using the writings of paul he says we are troubled on every side yet not distressed we are perplexed but not in despair persecuted but not forsaken cast down but not destroyed we are grateful for these words because it gave us hope a hope that say that allows us to still sing in difficult times like these how great is our god because we know that with news like this with many of us and our relatives still sick and in hospital or bedridden we can still sing or our great is our god because certainly your father thou art great and if we are to ever find comfort in times like these it is because you are a great god so father we pray that you will comfort us even though these individuals have lost close relatives and the pain that they feel many of us have never experienced we can all empathize with the grief and the pain that they are experiencing because we once one of us is grieving once one of us is in pain we all grieve and are in pain so we pray father that you will comfort not only them but us also that you would remind us that this is the reason why your coming is imminent to bring an end to this chaos to create for us a world in which there are no more sorrows no more pain no more death where the sting of death has been removed and we can live forever in peace in your presence so we look forward to that day in a very special way where we will not as we come from sabbath to sabbath it will be to rejoice and not to speak of sorrows and pain we look forward to that they will father let your coming be swift bring an end to this world and its aches and pains bringing into this misery we ask father we want to thank you so much for the blessings because even in these times we still have got blessings that you've given to us and we want to rejoice in those thank you so far so much your father for the blessings that you have given to us the joy of a newborn child for some of us the marriage of our sons and daughters that brings us joy they they they um for some who have been out of work employment that has given us joy the purchase of a new home for some of us that has given us joy the seeing of a relative after a long time in lockdown brings us joy so we want to thank you o father for these blessings that you have given to us often that we take for granted but we know it is your method of comforting your people as we wait upon you today we pray for your man's servant who will deliver the bread of life to us we pray father that you would bless him we know the weight that is upon his shoulders to be able to minister to a congregation in which we have lost so many over the past year that burden is often very great but you said that if we lean upon you you will take our burdens and our load you will lighten that burden and that lord so lighten this burden and lighten his lord and allow him to minister successfully to your people we pray in jesus name amen it is also my task today to introduce the speaker now today we will conclude with the last of a three-part series of knowing and using your spiritual gifts spiritual gifts are gifts given to the church by the holy spirit to unite enable and empower the church to fulfill its mandate the mandate of matthew chapter 28 verses 18 to 20. the present of this series is our pastor mario phillip during these presentations pastors given us the scriptural basis for spiritual gifts and the theology surrounding these gifts he emphasized that even though the gifts are given for the benefit of the church it is actually the individual in christ that receive these gifts so i have learned that i just can't walk in and you cannot just walk into the vestry and grab a spiritual gift that is the church's rather the gift is given to individuals if you happen to have missed the first two presentations you can find these presentations on the sda the wills then sda youtube channel and i urge you that if you miss any of these presentations to please go back and listen to them pastor your presentations were enlightening and motivational and i love them very much it is your style of presentation that captured me it is both engaging and enthralling i have been pastor looking under my christmas tree to see what spiritual gift has been given to me and sister glendin i hope it is singing pastor we thank you for the information that you've given to us so far and we look forward to today's presentation but before you speak we will have a war was it called meditation may god bless you [Music] [Music] [Music] i thank you very much you know when you reach 81 years 81 years strong [Music] i mean i want to thank god today for the life of hurricane and i'm particularly humbled when i can stand in the presence of such wisdom but i came i want to stand god for you and your life and i just want to pray for you god has been good to you and we just pray that he'll continue to bless you as you live to see many more yes you are looking well you are strong the goodness of god is on your life let's just pray for you today let's pray father in heaven thank you for your son for the richard king 81 years ago you brought him into this world and here he is still standing i know he has been through many a trial but by your grace you have kept him and today on your sabbath we pause to say thank you jesus thank you for saving him from sin but most importantly thank you for keeping him alive today lord as he celebrates his birthday we want to pray your blessing upon him keep him healthy keep him serving you what a joy he is to us and to his family we ask for god that as he embark on his 82nd year that your mercy will follow him that your grace will cover him allow him o god to experience your goodness and i trust and pray that as he grows older he will grow closer to you and oh god keep his eyes fixed on that city whose builder and maker is god so continue lord to keep him faithful to you until that day he will hear from your voice well done enter into the joy of my lord bless him today we pray in jesus name [Music] i don't think i will ever leave to see those age so i must appreciate it when it's around [Music] i want to begin this morning by just asking you to keep my country of grenada in your prayer things are very bad in grenada and they're speculating that in the next two weeks half of the population will have kovid grenada only has one one general hospital and we have two smaller hospitals so we don't have the capacity on the island to deal with an outbreak of kovid and already um the funeral directors on the island out getting containers to us using containers that's called storage so i want you to please pray please pray for grenada um it's not looking good it's not yet the peak and already the things are things are not looking bright so keep keep that country in your prayer um for god's mercy to just be upon them i know there are other islands who are affected as well and so we've been praying and we'll continue to pray for the caribbean islands who have been affected before i go forward this morning i want to just say that this church here in wilson is a church that is very much committed to the community even though we have been in lock down we have not been silent we've been very very active and i want to just commend the leaders of this church who has kept the flame alive um before i begin this morning i want to just pray for three ministries of our church that are making headways into the lives of people the first is the enrich my future empower my future series sister cheryl allen and her education team have has taken this year to a new level and um i want to just commend them for what they have been doing with the education ministries um the program that they have put on have been tremendous and come tomorrow come tomorrow another program will be launched empower my future series now i want to encourage this morning our young people who are here and those of you who have friends these series are designed to help you know that the future is bright for you and that you can look forward to the future with optimism uh the flyers have been circulated on all our platforms and i'm not sure if it's on the screen or it can be displayed on the screen now but starting tomorrow and then continuing every third sunday in the month until december we will be online from 11 a.m to 12 30. so you can join us on our zoom id i i don't i don't have the specific id with me but it's okay thank you very much technical team for getting it up on the screen um you would have seen it all around and you can just take note of it but we want you to spread the word particularly um for young people tomorrow uh poor uh promises to be very very informative cv writing and interview techniques um i want to guarantee you that it's it's going to be good if the person who is doing it is the one who i think is doing it it's going to be good and so please tomorrow i want to encourage all of you to share the word that the empower my future series will be launched i also want to talk to you this morning about the crop and bloom um festival that will be aired here next week sister elsa staple and her team have been working hard to help us to appreciate homegrown nutrition and to next sabbath uh the church will be transformed into a vegetable market not vegetable market into a place where you will see the produce of our hands and we want to celebrate the goodness of god that can come true home grown nutrition so next sabbath and sunday will be a day for us to highlight the importance of eating what you grow and growing what you eat but most importantly we want to show the community that we can eat healthy to stay healthy and i want to commend sister staple and her team um for this initiative that is imp is it starting next week but the idea is to take this out to a community and um so i know they'll be having here decorated next sabbath with a lot of flowers and on sunday will be an exhibition of produce from the land where people from the community will be coming and showcase what they have planted and you can also sample good good vegan healthy snacks that will be designed to help you recognize that you can enjoy good food without it necessarily being on healthy food the third initiative i want to speak to you about is called steps up steps up the center of help and hope launches steps up and i want to take this opportunity to commend sister norma white and her team for putting this wonderful program together for the community steps up is designed to give hope education empowerment series again it's designed to give hope many to our service users in the center of help and hope and the community by extension this initiative launches this month and continues until the end of the year um i know sometime last week they had a registration of several people over 50 people i believe came to be registered so we want to pray for this initiative um right now we have a series of people um who have been um refugees who have come in here from syria and afghanistan and it is programmed like these that can help to teach them esau teach them english and many such of this nature so i want to i want to just i want to just commend these initiatives to the lord because while we can plan it is god that can bless and it is god that can send the increase and i want you to remember these initiatives as their launcher because folks the whole aim is to give god the glory and this morning i want to just say a special prayer for these three initiatives as we embark upon them um in the coming months ahead let us pray father in heaven this morning lord i want to thank you for giving ideas to your church and thank you for planting the seeds of these ministries in the hearts of your leaders lord they have done their part they have planned they have organized but now they are helpless unless you bless it unless your holy spirit anointed it cannot build your kingdom and so this morning we want to consecrate the empower my future series the steps up initiative the crop and bloom initiative we pray oh god that you will bless these initiatives that as we sell them to our community that your holy spirit will take these initiatives and plant seeds in the hearts of people that ultimately they will come to know jesus so father today we ask that these initiatives will seek to glorify the name of jesus and advance your cause in nw10 and beyond and that as a result of this initiative our communities will be a different place that men and women will come to know of jesus and most importantly the lives of people will be transformed we pray in jesus name amen amen okay now that i've gotten this out of the way i wanna thank you very much for staying with us today and for coming today it's really good to see so many of you in church today and today i want to conclude the third part of the three-part series on spiritual gifts now let me just tell you um at the end of this series we have a spiritual gifts analysis or inventory that has been posted in our church group whatsapp group but it's also on your website i want every member even if you know your spiritual gifts just for the sake of you being sure do it please if you cannot do the assessment that's okay just send it to me or to sister staple and we will do it for you and tell you what your gifts are but please everyone looking online i want you to go to the wilson website or it's in our membership group download the spiritual gifts inventory and attempt it and you don't have to do the analysis but the analysis can be done by you if you feel adventurous if you cannot do it just send it in to us i'm going to give you the emails in a while and we will help you do it it is imperative you know um this morning as i was uh you know you know getting ready to come you know you know the spirit said to me that you know i should tell you that after doing this spiritual gift inventory you should let us know where you want to serve so for instance if you upon completing your inventory you recognize you had a gift in an area feel free to tell us can i serve in this department next year because that's a gift you think you have that we may not know so um so i so i'm giving you the opportunity we are giving you the opportunity to volunteer yourself don't say that no one has appointed me to serve if you think that the lord is leading you to serve in an area tell me or tell any of the elders and by the grace of god it might just be that he's his will for your life okay now today we were supposed to do the nominating the latch committee but that will be done next week let's go on to our presentation for this morning knowing and understanding your spiritual gifts okay what is a spiritual gift again i'm not going to spend too long on that because ella leslie so beautifully this uh um told you what's a spiritual gift um but a spiritual gift i want you to note something carefully here it is given by the church is that what it says a spiritual gift is distributed by who the holy spirit so the church is not the one who gives you the gift it is the holy spirit and you use it for the body of christ i want you to know that very carefully we spoke about that last week and i'm not going to spend too much time on that because there's a lot we want to do this morning um okay what should you know quickly about spiritual gifts okay i'm trying to change it here guys if you find i'm taking long you can just help me move it on quickly we said that last week no particular gift is isolated from the other so if i have a gift and you have a gift or gift should be working together in other words my gift is not better than yours my gift is not more important than yours no matter what you do in the church even though i may be more visible than some people it doesn't mean that my work is more important now let me tell you this folks let me tell you this when we get to heaven there is only a trunk of life there isn't a more golden throne or a more whiter robe it is a white robe and a crown it means therefore that it doesn't matter how much you do what is important is you doing it faithfully so whether you're doing little or much just do it faithfully because when you do your work faithfully and i do my work faithfully then together um god says in the end well done now i heard a message two weeks ago at pastor sophia pierce um [Music] how do you call it again it wasn't ordination commissioning i'm going to say all the nation but you know i don't know the church is playing with those two words anyway let me not get into that this morning let me not get in commissioning that message folks has done something to me in a way that i just you know even this morning i was telling my wife i said you know that message has rewired something in my mind because the questions that jesus will ask us you know and listen folks that message i mean you know and i wish some of you could go and look at that message but um the the speaker said some things that i would never forget she said on the day of judgment when jesus come the question that he's going to ask you is not how much church would you chair ain't gonna ask you how much summons you preach the questions are very simple and you know as i sat there i said but you know look at this you know we go to go to school for all these years and they never taught me that they teach me how to read hebrew and greek and and and it's so simple listen brethren it was so simple when i that day i said what did i go to school for because the exam is so simple and the question is have you fed the hungry have you clothed the naked have you visited you see some of a little even believe the questions you don't even believe it because you're expecting it to be do you understand the 25 i mean 28th what i mean listen it's very simple have you fed them have you clothed them have you visited those in prison so folks you know i'm recognizing that's where gifts comes in because you see at the end of the day at the end of the day we have to be prepared to answer these questions not how many sabbats you came to church have you visited those in prison and gave food to those who are so after that message my prayer to the lord is lord give me a heart of empathy and when i say empathy brethren empathy is not sympathy empathy is being able to walk where people walk so i'm ready to go and pass to the community i was telling my wife i said i'm ready to go and pass to the community be a pastor in the community walking on the streets and telling people about jesus because at the end of the day at the end of the day the questions that he's going to ask me will be so different what i'm preparing for now anyway let me get on with my presentation this morning i mean i don't know who took me on this part here i'm just showing it to my buddy the great commission and our spiritual gifts now let me just say this brethren as adventists as adventists um we have been talking a lot about the great commission uh ella leslie spoke about it this morning um we have to go forth make disciples baptize them teach them and then god promises us he's gonna give us his presence now the great commission cannot be done by the pastor or elders the great commission has to be done by everyone and how do we do it now that great commission there brethren is also found in matthew 25 not just matthew 28 matthew 25. now um just move on quickly with me this morning so ellen white says in evangelism page 256 ministers frequently neglect these important branches of the work health reform spiritual gifts no now of course we talk a lot about health reform but the issue of spiritual gifts cannot be neglected if you know your gift it just opens up your life and it gives you joy what it is give you joy you know when you are gifted when the cameras have left and you can still be happy doing it when you're left all alone and you can still be happy doing it you know his gift because it's one thing to be serving when the crowd is around you and everyone can applaud you but it's another thing to be serving alone you're the only volunteer but you're still happy even if you alone you will still do it that calls for a gift and we're going to talk about that this morning okay god has set in the church great uh gospel workers says god has set in the church different gifts these are precious in the proper place that all may work their part in preparing a people for christ's soon coming that's what um the son of the lord said god has set the gifts in the proper place within the church okay so what are the gifts in the bible i want to um there are three passages that basically have all the gifts that are mentioned in the scripture romans 12 1st corinthians 12 and ephesians 4. so in romans 12 we have the prophecy teaching service giving leadership and mercy you can read it when you get some time in first corinthians 12 you have prophecy teaching service wisdom knowledge faith healing miracles discerning of spirits towns and its interpretation helps and administration in ephesians 4 we have prophecy teaching apostle evangelist and pastor so these are the gifts as enunciated in scripture now let's see if we can explain this a little bit more okay can we move on to the next slide so according to the gifts i showed you there are what i call gifts for the universal church such as the gifts of being an apostle prophet pastor evangelist now when i say universal church um it it serves the why the church so a pastor um you know does not just serve the local church he he serves the universal church he is especially if he's ordained he can travel around the world an evangelist goes anywhere you call him to preach uh prophets likewise so these gifts serve the universal church they are not localized or restricted to any one area uh okay put it back on the screen and then we have not just gifts that serve the universal church we have okay go back to the next slide thank you okay yeah there we go then we have gifts that are more suited for the family such as um the local church such as helps giving mercy administration so these gifts are more localized gifts that you do within more of a family setting such as the local church setting so we have gifts that are broad scale past the teacher administration um um prophets evangelists but you have gifts that are suited for the local church such as um mercy helps service etc now the thing is all the gifts are given to the church for a particular reason um okay this is plain up this morning on me okay then we have what we call the power gifts such as speaking in towns interpretation of towns um um the adventist church is frightening of those gifts the the the the power gifts we don't want to touch those gifts um because we think you know you know those gifts were only given you know you know you know we are frightened to talk in towns which really is not a bad gift because it simply means you're interpreting language and then you have the servant gifts such as mercy and faith and helps we have the outreach gifts such as evangelism miracles and healing and then we have the spiritual maturity gifts such as teaching and knowledge and wisdom and exhortation so the gifts are not all the same some they we we tend to categorize them so that everyone doesn't have to be doing the same thing but what the gifts does is that it allows us to see how the church comes together in being a unified a unified um body and then we have the leadership gifts such as um apostleship pastor teacher etc and of course you have the supportive gifts such as healing and miracles etc so these are just some classifications they it varies with um it depends on which books you read but um i just want you to know that all the gifts are not just in one cluster they are in different clusters so you have leadership gifts supportive gifts um you have gifts for the universal church um you have gifts for the local church etc but what you find is that some people don't have one gift some people have many different gifts and we call that a cluster of gifts so there are some people who have what we call the support cluster that is these people you will find them in things like community services you will find them as greater than they are the people who like to make people feel welcome the support cluster hospitality service giving mercy these people will give until they don't have anything to give um the support cluster so you find that and generally when someone is very hospitable you often find a like to help when someone is very hospitable they like to give because it comes in a cluster counselors then you have the teacher cluster these people like to talk knowledge they have it teaching they like it you know the knowledge cluster um and you may find that someone who has the knowledge cluster they like reading they like studying they like you know you know you know because that's that's just a gift that god has given them um the knowledge cluster so what i'm saying to you this morning is that you chances are if you identify one gift try to know the class state is in because you may recognize you don't just have one gift but you have the whole lot of them it is only that you've only identified one and i've found that with people that they have a lot of gifts but one is more prominent than the other because that is what they've been exposed to but if only you expose yourself some more you recognize there's a lot more things you can do that you never thought you could have done okay put it back on the screen for me thanks okay and then we have what we call the uh the e the evangelist the evangelist cluster um okay the evangelist such these are people like pastors um bible workers missionaries they um they are they you know generally a pastor you know ought to be an evangelist uh missionary sort of that sort so you know that cluster of gifts is something that he enjoys then you have the leader cluster such people they love administration they are very good leaders etc etc and then the sign cluster let me tell you this when i was reading the the sign cluster is what got to me because i recognized that the thing you know um things like miracles and healing and casting out demons not every and anybody could do that and that's why you shouldn't just call anybody to cast out a demon and don't say well you're a pastor you cannot cast no demons no no no no because let me tell you this it's a gift it's a gift and it's important for us to know our gifts i know a guy who went to task with a demon and a demon beat him up you know demons can fight you know demons can fight and and and and and and um you know you know i mean i think i shared that with you already i went to pray for a young girl who had a demon myself in a campaign and you know the girl flew in the air like a ninja you know you know you know you used to watch just kung fu movie in them you know with jet li and them the girl was far from me she flew and kicked the bible out of my hand and the bible went up in the air and that young 17 year old girl started to talking voice that made me happy to go fast and let me tell you a secret i wanted to run but i said i said if i run what people could say where they passed and they would say pastor running no no you know it's not easy when you hear people start talking strangely so i stood up there and i said not tonight that's me ella's in them starting to look behind i said no we're not going nowhere we're praying but but the point i'm making is that not everybody could do that it's a gift the gift of exorcism so i'm just making this point to say to you that you don't have to um you know not everybody can do everything uh some people have been given special gifts by god and and there are some folks you know you call them to do something and they do it so easily and you wonder why that's just their gift next on the screen um so so the clusters of gifts are divided into three groups three types and i want you to note this morning either your gift is motivational ministry or manifestation so all the gifts you have can fall into one of these three categories either it is motivational it is ministry focused or it is manifestation so let's see if we can explain this a little bit more i want you to understand this so what are motivational gifts uh okay let's go on to motivational gifts so motivational gifts are how god is working in you to motivate your words and actions so in other words there are some gifts god works either in you there's some gift he works with you that is ministry there's a some gift he works through you that is manifestation so let me give you some examples in motivational gifts we have gifts like prophecy the prophet proclaims the will of god god has to speak in him god does something for the prophets then you have serving you know god has to touch your heart that you can serve people teaching god must give you the wisdom these are gifts that god must do something in you then you have the gift of exotic he must put the words in your mouth so that you can say the right things the gift of giving unless god touches your heart you would not give so these are gifts you must be motivated by the holy spirit he puts the need and his desire in you so let me just go over these motivational gifts because these are very important prophecy prophesying so i don't just get up and say that's what i'm prophesying no god puts it in me and i prophesy the prophet doesn't speak his own words serving teaching all of these gifts really if you do them properly they motivate people exhorting um giving organizing that's a good motivational gift you know not everyone can organize um mercy etc so your gift can be very motivational meaning to say that the gift you have god can use it to inspire others but there are some people their gifts are in doing don't give them a sermon to preach don't ask them to come up here and you know i recognize that we should not we should avoid trying to be little people when we ask them to do things and they say i can't do it they say oh you're in church for all that years and you can't pray no because i recognize that there are some people it's not that they cannot do it it takes a lot you know um some people literally get cold feet you know um big people you're calling them to pray and it's difficult and when you understand gifts you recognize that we should try to avoid embarrassing people when we ask them to do things and either they shy away from doing it and sometimes a lot has to do with their confidence in themselves to just do it like that but what i found is such person take them on the field and you will say hey is that the same person in the church he doesn't say nothing in the church but look at him give them something to do and you will recognize hey is that the same person i recognize there are some of us we are not too good in doing things publicly but give us something to do with our hands give us a break to break give us something to need put a tool in your hand and you become a different person and that's because your gift may be more in what you can do in terms of ministry-wise so while church provides a platform for gifts all gifts cannot function in church so do not think that because you are not serving in church your gifts cannot be used in fact i have found that your gifts should be used seven days a week you're driving down the road and you see somebody on the highway brick broken down everyone passing them but because you have the gift of help you pull up why are you pulling up because in you that's a gift you have are you okay you know you know have you called you know you know break down you know yes yes and then you move on that's a gift of helps because it's in you so we all have it and it doesn't always have to be seen in church so don't think that because you don't have an office in the church that your gifts cannot be shown in fact your gifts doesn't need an office or an appointment what your gift needs is you and if you have it you can use it so i have found that when somebody is gifted no matter what you do you cannot stop them and when i say you cannot stop them they will find ways to do their gifts and the reason being when god bless you with a gift you just have to use it because it is god who gives it to you so some gifts are ministry focused and so you may not find them motivational which is mainly in church you may find them more um in the case of you know what you can do for people and what you can do for the community next slide okay um and then i'm not going to read this let me go on to the last um category of gift which is manifestation that is how god can walk through you manifestation gives away the supernatural presence of god so i have found that the pastor may not be the person in church who is closest to god now when i say that i don't mean the past day not spiritual but the pastor may not have the gift of manifestation that is there are some people when they pray when they pray you know listen the gift of manifestation is you know somebody's sick you come and put your hand in them and pray for them and there are some people when they pray things happen now now i have found i used to wander and say oh why is it happening like that but i'm recognizing there are some people there gifted manifestation so put it back on the screen for me let me show you this so for instance okay the spirit of god can work in these people in a very direct way and that's why the gift of intercessory prayer is not just simply something anyone can do it has to be a gift so someone is sick not everyone can pray for healing now you can pray for them and you know why not everyone have the faith because it is not a person is more spiritual or better than you you know a lot of us pray but we doubt it praying and believing is something else you know and i have found that if you start to pray and believe it sometimes when god start to walk it make you frightened so early in my ministry when i used to go praying for people i told you already when i went prevent and pray for the lady and she died and i tell you that devastated me for weeks i say how can i pray for the woman and she died and then as i grew in ministry i recognized that was the will of god but i thought that once you pray healing should come and uh and and and as you grow you recognize you know what um you know god teaches you different things that sometimes you know what um you know while you are doing what you are doing god may not work in the way that you think he should work um now i'm recognizing that sometimes my lack of faith could have been the hindrance um because you're praying but you're not sure if god could do it and if you lack faith faith without works is dead and so there are some people they have faith and with a sting they're crazy oh the doctor tell you you have one month to leave and somebody coming from nowhere and start to tell you don't worry that crazy doctor no no no okay don't worry me god said you can leave and we said no but the doctor says but he said no god says you can leave listen this is faith this is faith not everyone have that faith and i'm saying to us that comes with a gift um because sometimes we like to go by what we see and what we hear but i've found that the gift of manifestation is one that you know when god gives it to you people think you're crazy because you see the impossible you you perceive the imperceptible that's the gift of manifestation so um so so not everyone can become a prayer warrior even if you like prayer you have to have the gift let's move on to the next slide so such gifts are the working of miracles the gift of healing the gift of wisdom wisdom you know there are some people who do not have much academic letters behind their name but they have with them you see wisdom you can't get it in the classroom they cannot teach you that it's a gift and that gift is given by god um so so so all the gifts you have i want you to note where you fall in do you are you motivational is it are you someone that believed that you should be up here you should be doing something in the church are you someone who believed that the church is not a place where you can do your gift you you like you're more hands-on person you want to be in the community you want to be doing something for your neighbors that's ministry or are you someone who like healing you like prayer you like to cast out demons you you like to visit the hospital and pray for the sick then it means that your gifts takes you in different sphere of service so all of us in the church our gifts do not contain us in the church we can all be gifted and be functioning in different arena so don't think because you don't see or hear me in church it means i'm not using my gift okay let's move on to the next slide quickly now knowing i'm using how to discover your spiritual gifts that's very important now okay take notes pray to god about this if you have to discover your gift you must pray to god about it you cannot just listen to this seminar and know your gift ask god to show you what is my gift and he will show it to you so you must pray or ask people to help you pray secondly how to discover it the next thing you need to do be willing to what didn't get everybody be willing to so don't just pray but volunteer because if i'm only praying praying praying and i'm not willing to get up from your knees get me hands dirty you know and that's the thing i find we you know sometimes we praying too much and we're not working enough let us pray and work together so spend all the time praying but there comes a time you have to get up from your knees take up the track take up your bible put on the gloves and do something so you got to be willing to work so god wants you to be um using your gifts um volunteer that's how you get to know your gifts so pray be willing to use it the next thing i want you to do is get informed about your gifts and that's what i want you to do that's what we are doing here we are teaching about gifts and that's part of discovering your gifts so read more about gifts that helps you to know what your gifts are next one and that's very important discover what keeps you up in the night thinking discover what gives you joy if we put you in somewhere in a position that you're not gifted in you wouldn't wait until the year end you can't wait until the near end to say not me again because and and let me tell you this you see it could really be and not i'm not saying that's the only reason but it could well be that you have not yet found your niche because when you find your gift until you die you don't need to know when you found what gives you joy nothing takes it from you even when you don't feel like it you know somebody say how you're doing today i don't feel so good but you're still doing what you have to do you know sometimes you don't feel well but you get up and you're still cooking you get up and you still go to work you get up and you still go and do your errands that's how your gifts are when you don't feel like it because you're gifted you're still doing it oh you're not feeling wealthy and you're still here because you know what i can't stay quiet it's in me it's in me i don't feel like it but if i don't do it i feel guilty because god has given me that gift so i found people when they gifted even if they have to take a walking stick they come in if they have to walk on crutches they come in so yesterday i visited a food bank in harrow you know you know and in fact i was isolated for 10 days only my my 10 days end yesterday so as soon as i turned this in i went to visit the food bank in harrow because i met this lady at a meeting and she said she and she said the pastor you're going to come and see she's a hindu lady so you're going to come and see uh or food bank in harrow it's called um london community kitchen listen i went there i'm going to talk to you about another day but when i went there i saw some old ladies coming on the chairs to volunteer you know um driving the um chair they come in and they're parking while they have to pack for two hours and they go back home and i said what a beautiful thing that even though they are old they come in and give her two hours volunteering you know and that's because for them it gives them satisfaction that's how your gifts are when you know your gifts you know it gives you satisfaction doing it um that's how your spiritual gift works next next slide evaluate your efficiency with honesty so ella leslie let me talk to you now it's only you and i talking ella leslie thomas you know i could pray for the gift of singing but i have to be honest with myself i have to be honest with myself you know if if i try singing and i look at your faces in the congregation and you are just shaking your head and of course you can be saying lord have mercy upon him he is willing oh you can be feeling the holy spirit i don't know why you are shaking your head but you know what i've recognized that not everything is for everybody so um there are some things i love i love playing the keyboard listen man i wish my brother i wish you know i've been to some churches where there was no musicians but they have a keyboard and i wish i could play something so when i got married my wife she plays she started to teach me and then she said you are hopeless cause you know i mean she said she said no no no no no no i mean i mean she said you know i mean i mean do you want to learn music or not and i recognize it's better to teach children children alone because all two little children out there you know quickly they're just learning the music from her but for me my fingers are stiff so come loosen up your finger so but i love music but music don't love me so i've become contented to sit down and listen to you i will enjoy your music and when i get to heaven wait i'm going to play better than you when i go to heaven but on earth you sit down here for now i'll enjoy your plane i no no no i never go there anymore but there are some people you know you know you gotta know your limits know what you can do some things you like it just enjoy it because you know be honest with yourself about what you want to do and when you know what you want to do and you are honest with yourself you don't try to make yourself do things that you know is out of your remit okay let's go on quickly seek people's opinions so not just i should say i'm gifted when glendon listens to me she said pastor or you could join the praise team you know because others hear you and also identify your gift because when god gives you a gift he shows it to other people they tell you boy you know you could do something you know whenever you do this whenever you do this the church is blessed you know you know whenever you touch this something happens so people seek the opinions of people okay now we are talking about identifying your gifts so some people might be telling you you are very well in doing this don't just take it as a compliment don't say thank you very much and walk away no that's a warning sign for you god may have given you a gift and you need to pray to god about it next one not just should you seek the opinion of others i want to show you now how to use your spiritual gifts quickly how to use a spirit um okay uh okay can you just go back quickly okay i think okay there you go okay i'm i'm not gifted in using this thing at all um okay now on the website we have a spiritual gift inventory that i want you to please take some time to do um you need at least one hour to do it if you go on the website on the uh ministries personal ministry of resources you will get it there um and we've also posted it you know on on on our platforms i want everyone to please find that now when you do this um spiritual gift inventory put it put by the side on the screen um each there is 120 statement that's why you need an hour take your time and read it you know don't rush through it don't do it when you're sleeping do it when you awaken alert and of course all the questions have uh uh from one to ten one meaning the statement doesn't describe you at all ten meaning it describes you perfectly after you're finished with it i want you either to attempt analyzing it but you don't have to um you can always send it in to us okay um and when i say send it in to us um you can either send it into the lc staple um to at gmail.com or you can send it in um to myself i thought i had my email there but i didn't put it in there um my email address is bishop mario one three at gmail dot com bishop mario 13 at gmail.com you know somebody asked me pastor why you call us a bishop i told him i was doing greek and the greek word for in the bible a greek word for bishop for the past is the peace corps the bishop so i love greek so much i said let me come and say bishop so bishop mario 13 at gmail.com they can send your service back to me to my services staple and um we will try to get it evaluated for you okay but please i want everyone to download download the inventory and do it and send it back to us okay okay next um next slide quickly now um when you do that i want you we will tell you what are your gifts and sometimes we will find that there are some gifts that are primary and some that are secondary so i want you to identify what are your main gifts what are the gifts that you are so that will be determined by the inventory after you identify your gifts we would like you to categorize them okay and when i say categorize them i want you to decide if they are ministry gifts if they are motivational gifts or if they are manifest manifestation gifts so you must be able to categorize your gifts and say okay no no this is more like more ministry oriented this is more manifest etc etc etc it's possible um it's possible that you can have a a motivational gift for manifestation and give us that's possible um you know i i i am you're right i never thought about it but you know if i say not possible i'm limiting the holy spirit so technically i've never thought about it but it's possible that you can because the holy spirit is the one who can give you that you know you know you know that that gift okay just help me move move it on quickly there uh kyron thank you so so after you categorize the gifts i want you to define your roles in other words you need to decide on we're talking about how to use your gifts so you identify it you categorize it define your roles in other words you need to know what is that is expected of you if that is your gift and then after you do that next one on the screen uh we want you to list the ministries that you can serving in the church so i've recognized my gift is serving i like speaking i like teaching i also like planning what uh what you know what are they read up on these gifts and then look at the church and say what are the areas in the church that i can that i can um use these gifts now if there is no ministry in the church that you think you can serve form your own ministry now it is a form your own church there is a difference you know form your own in other words do something that could get you busy and because that's what you want to do you want to make sure that you are using your gifts in service okay so so so list the ministries in the church the next thing i wanted to do is apart from listing your ministry put it on the screen okay is identify the barriers and let me tell you this some of the barriers that you're going to find will be people in church if if you want to do something one of the barrier be someone will tell you oh you know what you're very new to this thing you know you know you know you just come here you know you know so expect barriers and let me some people get daunted by this because there are barriers they feel discouraged and they pack up and go say no no no no but let me tell you this if you have a gift if people are criticizing that's okay it's a barrier but in life when i go to work people criticize me i don't take my bag and go home why should i stop using my gift in church because they are credited because i'm criticized that's okay just weather the storm you know put a little goat skin on your back and brace yourself and god will make a way god you know that's a beautiful thing in church if god gives you a gift even though you are battered on many sides god will see you through he will he will and that's why i love serving in the church because god ultimately makes a way if he has gifted you so so you will get barriers and anticipate the barriers anticipate the criticism but rise above it and use your gifts for the lord okay let me bring this thing home quickly now these presentations will be um on the website um so that you can go back and look at them at your own at your own um you know leisure because i want you to please go over these over and over again back to the screen um we want you to um ensure that you get people to help you um get to know people don't don't think that if you have a gift that you can do it all alone look for people who like doing what you do and let them help you so find the people that you resonate with and really in church i wish the clicks we have a gift a gift oriented okay you know when i say click here to tell me your pastor that's the service click i'm happy but the click shouldn't be no no you're not welcome here you know you know because no no you know the click should be gift oriented clicks but find your friends who like to do what you do and make that your ministry group a few years ago um about two years ago the personal ministry department came up with the life groups and the whole idea was to find people like you that share your gifts and form a group where you can encourage each other that was the whole idea and it was just a beautiful concept we call it cell groups you know that that was the whole concept then um but you need people around you to help you grow your gift so find those who are already gifted and who can help you develop your gift so if you like to sing get to know the musicians in the church and let them help you you like to preach get to know the elders in the church you like serving get to know the community ministries people in the church you like hospitality get to know the hospitality people in the church you like to you know you know you know you like the community get into the community ministries leader and you will find that as you get to know the right people they will help to polish you to encourage and to develop your gift okay what's the next one i have there um support groups you gotta get support groups we spoke about that already i'm not gonna spend too much time and of course you must plan what you're gonna do you cannot have a gift and not be using it it is very important that you have a plan that's why i want you to do the inventory for us after you do the inventory and you identify your gifts if you find it difficult for you to come up with a plan we can help you but my prayer for wills then and those of you listening to me is that when you get your gifts you're going to use them for the lord so that the church can become a behind of people using their gifts listen brethren you know church cannot run the way it used to run let's go back to church i said no we're not going back we're going forward with church church must go forward and the way we go forward with church is people using their gifts as god has gifted them okay i think we are almost at the end now um how to discover my gifts study god's word obey god's word god study his word obey his word desire that he gives you more gifts okay how to discover my gifts know why you are asking for it don't ask god gifts for selfish reason and do not use your gift to show off use your gift to glorify god um and then ask others to lay hands on you and pray for you don't be afraid to ask people to pray for you uh that would help you to discover your gifts how to discover your gifts how to discover your gifts number one i want to quickly try it try it if you feel like singing sing the first note may not be right but the third be try it don't think i'm gifted and don't do anything try it identify your needs and try you know or if you see something in the church to do don't tell the pastor do it because you see folks sometimes you see something to do just do it and sometimes only in heaven we may find out not everything you see sometimes god shows you something because that's your gift you know no people come to you because that's your gift not every time somebody come to you is for you to go to somebody else sometimes god sends them to you because he has gifted you to help them so you gotta try it you have a gift try it we almost to the end the other way i want us to do it um after we try it of course we seek it so it's okay for you to seek gifts you may not have it but you want to develop it it's okay for you to seek spiritual gifts okay how do you seek spiritual gifts can you just move on with the slide be open to receiving from god humbly ask him for it so god can give you new gifts then the next one you try it you seek it we want you not just seek it go on to the next one evaluate it so you should recognize and ask how am i doing with this gift and let god help you to improve your gifts so try it seek it evaluate evaluated look at how you're doing and improve so you should become better and better you know i i remember the little boy growing up there was a girl in my church in victoria i mean the first time she sang the church laughed and you know i could never forget that um today that girl voice you know as if god said i'm gonna bless you double for your trouble you know because she tried it it didn't work out but she wanted to sing and god blessed her i don't know you should want to do voice training and that voice developed and today she's doing solo on her own you know that's what happens with your gifts today you may not know what your gifts are but god can help you discover it you may have tried to do something that you think you're gifted in and people tell you you you are failure at it keep trying be honest with yourself if you want to do it to glorify god let god god will help you to do it but we want more for members that wills then you know nominating committees can be difficult because we're trying to get people to serve the lord but what really should be happening is that we should be looking at where your gifts are and put you to serve where you are gifted and i found that if you find one person who is gifted that could ruin a department you know you could get you could have 10 people in a department who are not gifted and the department does nothing so what we need is not numbers we need gift if god has given you a gift you could do it so that's why we want you to identify your gift and if you find it god can bless it let us pray for you that you can develop it and just use it and brothers and sisters you know we cannot give you any rewards for using your gift one day god will say to you well done well done i know there are a lot of you who are using your gift the church may not know your names may not be called from this desk but one day you will hear well done have you identified a gift this morning do you know your gift you might be here and you may not have been doing nothing that you know you should be doing ask god this morning what is it you have brought me into your kingdom to do let me do it and if you can do it do it well so his name can be glorified today i want to pray for you let us pray father in heaven lord here we are you know each of us better than we know ourselves you've called us into this kingdom to serve humanity and to serve you some of us have been using our gifts hallelujah thank you for those whose gifts have made this church what it is today but lord much more of us can do it today oh god i want to pray that your holy spirit will fall on your church again we need help more of us can get involved but lord they need an awakening we need an awakening show someone this morning this afternoon their gifts and may they use it for your glory help them to identify it help them to seek it to try it to evaluate it and whether that gives the motivation ministry or manifestation made work for your glory lord we want this church here at wilson to become a beehive of ministries where every member is using their gifts for your glory bless us to this end we pray in jesus name amen amen [Music] we just want to thank pastor for allowing the holy spirit to use his gifts to expound today and we praise god that our gifts can be used and will be used to um to edify the church and to um help the community etc etc but i tell you this when we all get to heaven what a day of rejoicing that will be let's all stand to our feet as we sing the wondrous love of jesus we sing his mercy and his grace [Music] [Music] [Applause] [Music] when jesus [Music] but one day [Music] jesus [Music] because just one glitch [Music] where we [Music] before [Music] streets of gold [Music] when we [Music] to them jesus [Music] i just want to say brethren we need your help for haiti we really do need your help sister otelia is here um and uh anna i know that they have been down here every most evenings of the night we are trying to send a container of relief efforts to haiti and we need you we need you to come and volunteer an hour or two but we also need food non-perishable supplies so please pass the word around let's do this for haiti i know that we came together for saint vincent a few months your help to make this possible so i want to appeal to you join us the container will be packed in two weeks time and there is still a lot of work to be done let us pray father in heaven thank you this morning for speaking to us on gifts and the ability knowing and using our gifts we pray oh god that you will bless us as a people as collectively we put our gifts together to bless humanity and to advance your kingdom we want to pray in a special way lord for the project of haiti we are trying to respond to the humanitarian crisis on the ground in haiti thank you lord for all those have given but lord we await much more to be given in the next two weeks so we pray lord that you will speak to people sending people that can help us we pray in jesus name amen [Music] so [Music] [Music]
