[Applause] this is quite I think this was going to be quite an interesting to me because I've spoken to him in character before when he was a liji I've chatted to him as Borat which was hugely memorable and terrifying but I've never seen you interviewed him when he was being himself so this is the first for both of us will he please welcome the very gifted mr. Sacha Baron Cohen come here well whether you don't know what to do being yourself no idea well no general decision well is it it doesn't feel strange not being being a character in front of an audience for you yes it feels bad if it's bad regretting it beautiful being those guys because there's such weird comic creations I'll maybe for you I would hope that would be more different I mean coming out as Borat certainly takes a certain amount of crazy confidence well the problem with Paula originally was ladies my wife yeah that was there was an interesting decision that was that if you see the nipples are covered yeah yeah it's street friendly that is old-school sex yeah so being yourself what kind of a waiter when you are as yourself because I think of you you're a smart person without a doubt but do you fit in with Hollywood crowds well are you are you at ease with other famous people oh no no no I'm very scared to be next to Amy firstly good but I've spent a few years in Hollywood and it's been a disaster actually cuz socializing has been very difficult for me I want to party for the first week I was there and Jim Carrey was there he was complaining about being single and something that was quite an attractive woman went past like oh she's looking at him her she she looks like she's up for it he goes that's my daughter suppose they're got 20 more but um let's talk about your to your Ali G was your first kind of really successful creation yes now when he was first great he wasn't even called Ali G was he I believe it was just a you was just a general generic term you had failed yeah well there's we actually shot it I think in the next shoot at this the 11 o'clock show back in the back in the 90s like in the old school they came out they said we want to do this character called the youthful Ordo he did play with his bees I came back I said what about this character you know and came up with the name Ali G yeah so if you were talking to some very important upper class person they'd think that he could actually be that thick yeah yes plagues their prejudices but it's some psychological levels it wasn't this big knob jokes yeah well you are relying on and playing off of what is especially in this country a certain innate politeness yeah what would happen in America is well you know so why I do is I'd go into the go to the room and someone like Pat Buchanan he was a Republican presidential candidate you would know him yes this is for you America you know there were even more polite so something like Pat Buchanan the idea was I'd try and convince him that was an idiot before the cameras rolled yeah so I got your you know it's wicked to be here and I go you know so where is we and he goes we're in Washington DC in Washington DC and I go yo is that knee America you go yeah that is America wicked oh look it's going to be America's you know in a few weeks I was open to go to the USA the USA America are the same thing and I go alright let's agree to disagree I say potato let's bring this out let's bring this up but yes so they're you know we're not coming as Borat the first thing I do is I go someone's coming into your house I know you've got quite a lot of flack from Kazakhstan itself yeah then you got very upset because I hosted the MTV Awards as Borat yeah and I pretended that their Prime Minister premiere now to buy of came on I go now I put my motorbike and I got my knees and I kissed his crotch yeah they got very very angry and they decided we are going to sure this is not our prime minister our prime minister they've not gone to MTV Awards and get oral relief spending about 30 million dollars in a campaign to prove that they were the real Kazakhstan and that bothers yeah yeah but meanwhile what I decided to was they got so angry that their prime minister put me in touch by actually flew to Washington to complain to the American president so I heard he was coming so I thought bugger this I'm going to Washington I found out the half an hour window where he was gonna be outside the Kazakh embassy and in the White House and at that point I decided to throw a press conference pretending to be the real Kazakhstan this atchoo comedian is not a real cousin he's controlling the media what excites me is though what you're doing actually all that very funny is also quite dangerous sorrowful there must be there must have been I mean they take that back seriously you must at times feel like maybe it could go too far maybe you would be in actual danger yes well there there were some times you know where things got a little hairy no pun intended [Laughter] but yes so you know it would occasionally get a bit hairy there was a time we did this cage match at the end of this movie for Bruno Bruno is this gay Austrian character the idea was we build this ultimate fighting arena and we had like 2000 how would you describe them sort of quite violent people in Arkansas oh yeah and basically the idea was I had a lawyer and he was actually based in India we had all these sort of Indian lawyers who yoy you the lawyer based in India whoa cheaper we had literally one guy he was like the expert in Arkansas law did go well in the case of McKenzie against the state of Arkansas by the way that was actually the way he spoke that became the basis for a character I did in Madagascar ping Chula I like to move it move it you know [Applause] they see he said all right he gots whatever your dough I'm gonna break his accent English now I guess whatever you do is gonna be American whatever you do okay is it me where it is whatever you do not cross a state line and incite a riot because that's a federal offense in principle for five years I get what the problem is I am crossing a state line in order to incite a riot me and my boyfriend in the movie as opposed to my boyfriend at home yeah would basically have a fight and then start kissing and have close to sex in the arena you're in front of ultimate fight fans and I stopped kissing my boyfriend we make here and the lawyer said you know peace on the mouth but not you know you cannot kiss on the nipples I'm like playing with the nickel these 15 notes you know the direct finger must not be close to the rectum palm is open palm all right on the anus open palm is fine you know all the rectum on take it up and then basically these guys start throwing these metal chairs in and I'm lying with him on the floor and I'm thinking I see the first chair land and I think if I lie on my back I can move all right let's talk about your new character not be he started from Grimsby open sea on the 24th of February funny tell us about him and who he is and where he comes from well the idea was you know to have a kind of James Bond character and we thought who would be his ideal brother and we thought this bloke in the underpants anyway he's from Grimsby and I spend bit of time up in Grimsby and up in the north of England originally he wasn't made it be a kind of football hooligan in the end it turned out not to be but I went to popping Grimsby when the local pubs there and a bloke comes up and goes there you I'm not I'm not okay I said what do you do he goes I'm an eel because I'm a Neil Diamond impersonator name any song I said Sweet Caroline he goes how does it's not the worst new diverse examine the facts mr. It’s weird, I don’t always think he’s funny, but I’m glad he’s out there pushing the envelope, By exaggerating the extremes of every culture, he is sort of saying we are all messed up, and just laugh about it.

I watched The Spy, I swear, I could not take him seriously for the first 10 minutes. He was brilliant though!
