started let's uh start with our opening prayer stay burning okay uh dear lord as we open this panel um help us to say the right things and help us to encourage others as well in jesus name amen amen amen um just before we get started in our uh our wholesome discussion uh we just want to take a quick look at the lesson 12 that was our cyber school study for this week um it's interesting that uh this is the the study that we have just before we speak about um this this panel um it talks about the the restless prophet in jonah and his mission to save the or bring the people of nineveh to god and as i think about the a city of 100 about 120 000 people and how they needed to hear this message and so they can uh turn from their ways and uh turn from their their their their atrocities i think about the the restlessness that's often found in us as we ought to are should be tackling this um this crisis in essence of um domestic violence and um youth violence uh we see where where uh jonah has uh had an inherent bias towards the the people of nineveh just because of how the the assyrians treated people and and it begs the question that we should ask ourselves are we having as members of the church inherent biases in who we minister to am i afraid to go minister to the homeless because oh they may be dirty they're you know they're some maybe have had history of drug abuse violence and stuff like that so it was it i i saw the connection in how a journalist jonah's a reluctance you know to to to minister these people and how it it also plays into how we as christians you know um minister people how we we choose and select who we minister to um the memory text for the the bible study for this week was um taken from jonah 4 11. and should i not pity nineveh that great city in which more than 120 000 persons who concern who cannot discern between their right hand and their left and much livestock does anyone want to say briefly what this verse might be saying to them and this is this is spoken from the the um the point of view of god i mean and should i not put and innovate that great city in which more than 120 000 persons who cannot discern between their right hand and their left and much lifestyle well i think um what this verse shows and gives us a understanding of how god looks upon all of us right and how we should model um how he looks upon us when he sees individuals who are in a place of ignorance or misunderstanding um lack right uh he looks up them upon them with pity and with compassion right and so we just like you say jonah had this implicit bias um when we uh look at other people we should not have that bias like jonah had but we actually should be compassionate unto them and the more compassionate we are into them the more we are actually able to benefit them and minister unto them amen and it shows you god's grace has no bounds it's for everyone i mean the syrians they they murdered people they they abused the people they did all the things that god hate but he still had that the love of that that that that um that only a parent can have for a child you know that he still wanted had an inherent belief in saving these people now oftentimes gods give us missions oh yes exactly exactly yes who am i who cannot give grace to decide who gets grace right yeah i mean it's not for any of us to decide it doesn't matter if you're pastor or you're the guy that who cleans the church you your job is to bring people to christ and let him do the rest right um so you just imagine us you as a missionary you've been asked to send to be to leave your place of comfort you know to go to one of the wickedest cities on earth to minister to her people and you went ahead and you preach and that you know the city will be destroyed and then people hear this message and then they repent no i don't blame them i would have repented i would never pay but the interesting thing is about this mission it's often time the mission is for us as christians you know and this is what's the missing the missing missing link that we we need to see is that when god sends you on a mission the person that's out there inherently they want to hear that positive thought about god but for you who know god it's about you maintaining that relationship just like a marriage if you don't do things together if you don't commune together pray together you follow the love you fall in love with someone if you don't constantly do that mission for god you you fall out of love with them and unfortunately jonah was thinking about his own his own um his own integrity rather than what god wanted to do for these people so when you you get a mission from god it doesn't matter where it's it's it's taking you it's not about how do you look am i gonna look if i go to the worst parts of houston and i'm speaking to a bunch of drug dealers and you name it is it is it a reflection of my personality or am i there doing god's work that am i showing the world that god doesn't care what you've done he's willing to send his missionary there for you and the spiritual fulfillment that gives you as a person that god gives you the strength to go to the basically the lions then you know to to minister to people it's what maintains that strong bond and relationship with god so as the the the text speaks of this restlessness this restlessness comes from us trying to do of our own thing trying to in a word boosting ourselves instead of doing god's mission uh it's a interesting read if you can go back to see read jonah and see the how conflicted a person he was and um how much more that he really needed this mission than the the people of nineveh himself and it's it's right here inside the church that we need god's mission to go out and minister to people just as much people out there who need it and whenever we get a chance just go over this bible study again because it's such a wholesome study and it gives you a whole another perspective of what god's mission is and how much it actually does how much it does for you on a spiritual level um any any it was just a quick overview and um any comments before we we we move on to the our wholesome matter of youth violence and the domestic abuse i was reading a book about revelation since week and it was telling about the seven churches and it's a full foot ourselves fix ourselves you know one of the churches all we live and you can't say you you he's not in between one of the churches if you is a genuine christian you can fix yourself to to one of those churches what is when god calling out an email what they do that everything about it but don't avoid ourselves from it just put yourself in one of these seven charities amen thank you um so as we move on um so today we're this week this weekend actually we're focusing on youth violence and domestic abuse it's it's just as how we are currently facing a pandemic of kovid there is a health emergency of youth violence domestic abuse right right around all around us and all things being equal it's right here inside the church we sometimes we just avoid it or we just don't know it or we just not looking for it um i wanted to share with my panel and just for everyone here in some statistics that i found on the national statistics on domestic violence 20 people per minute experience some form of abuse some form of violence that translates to about 10 million people per year 10 million this country has about 330 million people every minute 20 of those persons will experience some form of violence from interpersonal relationships people who they know people who they trust and if we dig deeper into the numbers one in four women females and one in nine men yes men will experience some physical violence we go further one in three women so how many women do we have in our audience right now one in four men how many men do we have in our audience you know all things being equal right here right now there's somebody who experienced some form of violence that's right in our audience right now so just imagine we're in this moment we're in the church we're somewhat insulated because we we usually bring more bring our problems or troubles to god but think about what's out there and the mission that we have that we need to you know work on um i looked on further when i i mean i just saw this information and i got even more interested one in five women and one in 71 men are raped have been raped half of those victims the person who committed the offenses was somebody who they knew and trusted focusing on our youth one in 15 children have been exposed to domestic violence violence so if you go to a school of 1 000 people quick math here about 70 70 of your your class your fellow schoolmates have had some severe issues with domestic violence um and there's a cost to this also about 8 million days paid days of work hours are lost because of uh domestic violence the often someone who has experienced domestic violence they might call in the next day because they're not feeling well they might not show for a few days because they're not feeling well the underlying issue was that somebody hurt them or their experience something traumatic at home here's the even worse aspect of this 20 to 60 percent of these people go on to lose their jobs now having heard those statistics i want to ask you is any of this surprising to you or is there a particular reason behind this as your especially your perspective or any data that you've looked on um yes go ahead oh i mean i'm not really surprised i i mean sometimes it's not really recognized as much because sometimes the guardian tends to not like recognize you know they just assume that either their child is fine or anything like assumptions like they don't really get to really know our acts really is my kid really fine like i'm just gonna assume he's okay because like he's not he he looks prom but like if you don't actually get to time to actually talk to your child or anything you're not really going to know what they're going through what's going on because they're not going to your kids not really going to open up like that they're going to they're going to need someone to like get it out of them i think also piggyback they're not going to open up because they don't feel comfortable and it's the job of the adult or whoever's it's whoever the child is opening up to it it's their job to make sure that the child is comfortable or the teenager is comfortable um opening up to them and letting them know that they're not okay and that they're going through something anyone else go ahead no okay no as i as i dig dug further i went to youth.gov this is a federal government website and they put out a lot of information on youth violence education you name it and it's social social economic uh statistics related to youth it's there on youth.youth.gov and if parents especially when you get a chance check out this website it will give you so much so much eye opening statistics that you may probably stop and think as a parent um maybe i should have a talk with my son or my daughter my children um one in five in high school is bullet one in five now if i go back to that that number again one a school of 1 000 children that's 200 children in a school of a thousand that has experienced some form of bullying 12 youth per day are killed 12 12 12 youth per day and when they when the that website speaks of youth it starts from age 10 and it goes to age 24. this uh pandemic or this i wouldn't say pandemic but this health emergency among our youth costs 18 billion dollars per year 18 billion dollars and our males unfortunately we we forget our mail sometimes six times higher to be experienced by our male six times higher todd is six times more likely to experience some form of violence whether from parents relatives his uh schoolmates than the females in our in our audience um here's another statistic for us as a church that is predominantly african-american violence homicide is the number one killer of america african-american youth we got we got lots of work to do number one killer of african-american youth violence it's the fourth leading cause for the other races and third overall for the united states age 10 to 24 homicide are being killed is the third leading cause of death in our youth now did you all think about this have you all heard about this information what are your thoughts and information and as like we we we all expect our childhood to be a bundle of happiness and joy and free living but for many it's not what are your thoughts as young people regarding these statistics and how do you see yourself uh making a difference or being that change for your peers who were silently suffering or you know from from these issues that we have in our society to share it's all about trust really like if your child if you're if you generally believe that you know your child to an extent you really don't cause like it's just it's just really about trust at this point because if that's how it is your child is not really going to open up to you like olivia lydia said you just got to really talk to your child and ask them what's really going on because really that's how it is now and same thing with bullying like it's it's just a thing with knowing something about your kid sitting down getting to talk to them and just supporting them through don't shame them or judge them or anything because that's how they you know that's how you get to know your child um on on that note uh have you experienced bullying or seen bullying as as um students at school or in your in your daily lives have you seen that yeah all the time i see a bunch of people in my school getting verbally abused and you know everyone's getting talked upon like you see it all the time in public schools especially because like the reason why some kids do it is for validation they really want to like to be seen or recognized and people don't seem to notice that and that's why it tends to happen because no one is really trying to say anything about it you know i got you somebody else now on that note i want to ask our youth in particular a specific question so often our youth especially our teens complain of not being heard by the persons that are in leadership parents teachers leaders you're not hurt and often they act out as a result of not being heard um as young persons on our panel help us as adults help our adults as our inner hearing to how do we see this dynamic of we're not you're not hearing me um what advice do you would you give what advice would you give to your parents right now in terms of i want to be heard um go ahead go ahead um so i believe you're the one who made the questions or i don't know who made the questions exactly but whoever made them i truly mean like no offense but um the word complain i i really truly dislike that word when in comes terms of this question because it comes as a way where it's like like it's literally you're like you're complaining like it's it's annoying to it's kind of like it's annoying to the parent and even according to the dictionary it says the expression of dissatisfaction or annoyance about something i think a more proper word that could be used is the word disappointment um because you kind of feel disappointed that your parent or any trusted adult like close relatives that you talk to do not hear you out and it's like i mean like aren't you supposed to be able to hear me out but with that being said they cannot hear you out if you don't let them know and the message that comes like you have to be careful with how that message comes across um i know culturally like for my household sometimes it's hard to talk about those feelings but you truly have to come to a place where you have that discussion with your parents and make sure it's coming across in the right way because i know for me personally like from my personal experience when i tried to tell some like my mom something that message might come out emotionally and that might come out the wrong way which also means it could come out in a disrespectful way and that's what one way that can't like you have to avoid that at all cause because i've been told like i've got to catch myself that it's coming off disrespectful and the last you know emotion that we need to add to the table is disrespectfulness when you're trying to express to them that you know you're trying you're like you feel this way this is happening to me personally at school um so you really have to be careful but also like i said before it's the job of the adult to make sure that the child is comfortable to or the teenager in itself is comfortable to let you know because it is hard to talk about those it's hard to talk about those feelings sometimes yeah like really like get to know your kids like i'm i can't stress that enough like actually sit down go somewhere like have some alone time with your kid and be their friend like i i've seen if you just act like a child like i like be like them like talk to them like they would talk like you just gotta get in the mind of a child of a child really and i i'm glad my my mom has like like come to like talk to me like as a friend like someone i can like say anything to because if you're if you're talking to a child like a parent like there's nothing wrong with that but like sometimes it's not wrong to like get to like you know their level and talk to them like you know as y'all equal it's like be equal with your child like have an equal balance like it's all about balance at the end of the day and talking to them like how you you know talk to their friends it's just like it really shows like comfort it's comfortable to you know because a child likes to talk to a friend so would it be wrong talking to your child as a friend um whenever you sometimes whenever you don't listen to people and their opinions it makes them feel like you don't trust what they're saying and you don't um care about their opinion okay so uh in a dynamic where your parents or person who's in leadership over here is not listening um what have you seen what you can give personal examples or something that you've seen what what usually occurs in that dynamic do do you give me an example of what happens what happens when when that occurs you say the question again so in a in a in a in a in a situation where you're not being listened to uh what what happens or what is the what what usually do you find like say for example find comfort in your friends at school do you act out you know yeah yeah yeah give us give us something that happened if i'm not getting attention by my parents some kids tend to like do something to gain their parents attention the validation like they're not getting enough attention that they have to act out in a certain way to gain their parents attention and that shouldn't be the case because i'm sorry like if you a kid shouldn't be doing that they know their parents and i actually care generally care about them um i've observed it myself a friend of mine at school i used to go to school with her she went through something and she went through something with the mom now at school they have counselors um and i've come to the point to realize sometimes these counselors are really of no like assistance like you try to talk to them they don't really help you out now that's not for all schools that's just from my personal experience my concert it's the same thing with mine not counselors it's i don't know what it is but i know some schools have put in place mental health professionals specifically that are there for just the mental health factor not to deal with like the grade factor just like the educational factor of it is just specifically for mental health and it's kind of sad to say but most kids do not actually i can't even say most kids because i don't know but i've my personal theory sometimes that i cannot talk to certain family members about certain things so that i have to go to another adult outside of my home to talk to them whether it's a teacher um you know church like member fellow church member or you know anybody really that you've had you trust and that honestly i feel like that shouldn't even be the case like i feel like you should be able to talk to somebody in your family about that because that's what family is there for but because of the society we live in and sometimes the cultural factor once again because i know culture is so heavy especially in our church um you really can't like be comfortable to talk about with them certain things that is that is interesting and as i as i listen to her speak and i think about not only us listening to our or our children or family members but think about us as a church listening to the persons out there that we're supposed to minister to am i just going there preaching am i also listening to what's going on in their life and that's something we need to think about keenly as as not just as adults but as a church as i move on i welcome pastor zambrano or use some good pastor here for us as our youth pastor is specifically in charge of her youth oftentimes our pastors being counselors are often given training in what to look for in our youth that is telling you that these youths are going through something dramatic um you as a pastor or youth pastor or just a pastor in general what are some signs some symptoms that you're looking for in her or our youth that they might be experiencing some form of domestic violence or there might be on a path that would might take them towards violence um could you just say in our hearing just from your experience and just help us as adults in our church to to look for these signs in our in our youth okay thank you for that question good morning church good morning panel um it is a great question and uh something that we're always told as theology students in school is that one we're not professionals i wanted to say that however the the thing is pastors are usually the first ones on the list that persons go to for anything how to do my taxes i need help on homework i need prayer it's uh it's not even the priest it's a pastor it's a a uh this is um something that one of my professors always said that he was always on the first list of a priest the priest would call him for some help for a member to go pray for we're usually on that list and maybe sometimes even the first ones to be called but that question is a good question i would put it this way i would say things that we look out for we don't look for it because we aren't professionals but we do look out for it it's very important that we do these things in a appropriate manner um things that were mentioned yesterday by uh our speaker our guest speaker yesterday did were you guys listening on yesterday's uh um a message yes i see some i see some nods uh very key things uh the personality sometimes it can change if uh youth comes to me and they're a happy person but all of a sudden their head is down they're not talking to me that's a sign physical any kind of physical signs bruises uh if someone comes in with some shady sunglasses i'm gonna ask the question hey what's up we don't see us with some shady sunglasses here those are some signs that we look out for um and i will say that as a youth pastor what i'll mostly see is um personality shifts a lot of the times um usually they something happened at school that's usually the case where they were bullied they were made fun of or an exam uh they failed on an exam now when you approach that and you open up the conversation what's going on how's your sabbath going and it's sometimes it could just be oh i failed my exam but signs like those is some things that we look out for um as a youth pastor okay uh anyone else have you seen anything specific that told you that somebody was you know experiencing something in attitude attitude like if you're so much but that's all teens right i'm kidding it varies though like you can show attitude you know just because you're a teenager but sometimes you don't see like attitude has different like types yeah you can just tell what type of attitude that person's going to because like are you acting up like that like there's something wrong obviously you just have to see it like tone too especially tom like tone really can tell you a lot about a person and just knowing that is like oh something's off like it's not right like just no yeah actually i was uh i was thinking about yeah i was just uh saying i was thinking about going back to i think what lydian todd had said earlier which is you have to start from a place of knowledge right there has to be a place in understanding knowledge even pastor brandon um you you see that coming out in his statement with you see a change well in order to understand the change you have to know first what the regular condition is right in order to recognize then that change and i remember when i used to work with the texas department agriculture we went down to texas grows a lot of citrus fruits you know that's a huge interest it's actually the number one industry in texas you know if we didn't know right so they were going there and they were showing us different trees and showing us the different diseases and we would see basically the leaves change or you could see kind of a tree drying out or whatever and they were saying every time you see these different conditions you you actually know what to do for the tree based on the conditions that are revealed through the leaves or the uh bark or the tree and these things of that nature right and and it's the same thing when we think about our experience with our youth or in general right like you talk about people outside you know as we see maybe the attitudes that's coming up it tells us okay what type of fruit do these did this individual need in response to this thing and so we then can now uh fill them with that right which will be a blessing that will water them in order to come back to life right right but again it all starts from a place of knowledge is what we're really all saying here we have to know the individuals in their normal regular condition in order to then recognize the change knowledge is key man knowledge is key you're right um and in my career as a medical professional um i encountered a person and the only reason you would know that this person was being abused is that this arm was always hidden hidden um does whatever that person was doing this arm was always hidden and when you finally saw her arm that marks cutting on herself that's the only way she knew how to to soothe herself when you got down to the story of this person she was viciously raped had delved into drugs and the only way to solve her pain cut on herself and she was in for us she was a joyful person always smiling always laughing but this arm was always guarded and thankful this person got to the point where they could speak about what happened to them so it's subtle at times it's not a natural position for all somebody always hiding their arm like that and many persons they get to the point when they're suffering so much cutting on the arms unusual marks on the arms it's a way to dissociate take away from the internal pain that's going so they try to focus on something else and i was like wow this person was going so much but she had built this persona just to hide all that was going on behind in the in the in the in on the on the back end which so it's if you see something um you know give it more thought about it you know and uh and it might help you save a life one day you know and god might be just pushing you in that direction just to say something or ever encouraging word you never know somebody might just open up to you um as as we we you know we go from this point i want to i want to ask brother lionel um question here so often in christian homes and even wider society we we we speak we we pick pacific uh text from the bible in how we treat our youth and our children and one specific uh text that is i heard quoted so many times in my life proverbs are 13 24 um about discipline or or youth or children um shows how often persons in white society use the bible as an authority to to to to carry out some of the abusive tactics that they use in their life and use it as an authority to justify sort of the the abusive nature that we have in our interpersonal uh relationships can you give us a little more context of that text berliner and just for the wider society so we we clear up this misconception of what that what that text is actually saying okay amen it can just if you can read it for us so the verse is proverbs 13 verse 24 it actually says he that spared his rod hated his son but he that loveth him chasteneth him b times or early right um and just who have not been heard in their lifetime and as a justification of why you're going to get a beaten maybe not you today but 20 years ago oh that was your parents favorite verse when she's going to discipline you i'm not going to screw the rod today so go ahead brother sorry for the interpretation no it's a good point right and so the the context is looking at when individuals are looking at this verse it's almost exclusively right and thought in the thought process of um physical right violence uh our uh uh physical punishment right um but uh but i want us to take our mind to actually when we when we're thinking about this rod the first thought process thinking about some type of weapon right you know but when we look at psalm chapter 23 which is a passage of scripture that we we all know and we all love right um proverbs chapter 23 starts off and it says the lord is my what my shepherd right i shall not want he makes me to lie down in green pasture he leads me beside the still waters he restored my soul he leads me in a path of righteousness for his namesake then it says verse 4 yea though i walk through the valley of the shadow of death i will fear no evil for you are with me why your rod and staff they do what they comfort me right and so when we're talking about uh discipline when we're talking about correction should there be correction of course this is what the bible is teaching us but that correction should be a form of comfort a form of instruction that leads and that guides in the right direction and when you think about a shepherd that is leading the sheep right the rod is not used uh simply to beat the sheep into uh alignment right right the rock sometimes is used to put around the neck to turn gently back in the right direction right as you see and you think about how the shepherd leads the sheep this is the thought process of how anyone in authority is supposed to lead and guide those who are under their authority right and um it actually makes me think of a verse in the new testament in the book of ephesians i believe there's a couple verses the like right i think one is ephesians chapter 6 and verse 4. ephesians chapter 6 and verse 4 it says here and ye fathers provoke not your children to wrath but bring them up in the nurture and admonition of the lord and and the reason i want to just bring this up and say it because as we're talking about youth violence so we're talking about this um thought process of everything that's going on and how even the youth were sharing the experiences of what's going on at their school how people sometimes act out the reality is proverbs tells us that we should train up a child in the way that they should go and when they get old they will not depart from it right but that is the truth regard that is not saying if you grow them up in righteousness they would not depart from it now the bible says train them up in the way that they shall go and they will not depart from it so if you grow them up in wickedness what direction are they going to go in the direction of wickedness if you grow them up with violence what direction they're going to go in violence and the reality is we're told at the end of malachi that the lord will sin elijah in the last days before the great and dreadful death of the lord why to turn the hearts of the fathers to the children and to turn the heart of the children to the fathers then what is the condition of the hearts of the fathers and of the children and of the mothers and of the brothers that means their hearts are disconnected that means they're not together this is why the lord has to come to bring them back together and so no it's not a surprise that society is like it is today because hearts are disconnected because families are ripped up because how people are growing themselves up right growing their children up is a place of disconnection of violence of a lack of love a lack of care a lack of trust this is what is being experienced in homes all throughout have mercy even amongst the church right exactly and so if that is the condition of the home the only fruit that can be produced is the it is what is being uh uh going on in that home and so if love is not being produced in a home love can't be produced in anything that comes out the home amen amen so yeah so if in discipline or youth or children it has to be from a position of love and comfort am i right love and comfort um just a second and um beating a child or a youth mercilessly is not love it's not comfort am i saying no spanking that's a personal relationship between you and your spouse and your children but beating your child mercilessly as some form of correction will not give you the positive outcome you think and there's always an excuse oh i got so much beatings on a child and i turned out fine guess what you had the church to guide you if you say that in here in the church that i got so many beatings on the child and i'm fine you had the church to guide you there is a whole population of people who have never stepped a foot in a church for guidance they experience beatings they experience beings from family from gang members and guess what that's the only way they know to relate violence some of us inside here who have experienced this type of violence have been lucky and been given god's grace to channel this violence away and use it and use what what the experience to teach us to move on to something for good to make sure that you don't treat your child that way make sure if you see that happen to a child out there that you say no that's wrong but understand that there is a whole population of youth out there between the ages of 10 and 24 who have experienced this and they don't have the church as guidance they don't have a pastor they don't have a counselor they don't have even a parent to to to show them that this is not the way to to grow your child or to train someone i had a question down there from yes ma'am yeah yeah and yeah in the in trying circumstances yes what do you think i should do when i tell him doing what he goes that's a teenager no i was rebellious yeah that's that's that's big that's a teenager i let them know i'm the parent and when i say don't go i mean so so when i so so i was out in the world when i was raising my boys yes so i take everything in my power to keep them in rotation i make them know come becomes a gun man right i'm probably hunting them down so you're hunting kingdom down you understand i grew them in the hoods and they become somebody and they do oh no they don't take up a gun and they see the gunman when they're going and they see the gunman with the guns and they see everything and they know everything and i sit and remember listen this is not the way to go you sit here and see how much of them go six foot six right and you know you have to sit and talk with them but each moment they get out of line with me i put them back in line with the wheat right that's the way that that's right that's a that's a very good good question yes okay and i see a lot of parents here showing showing the the little hand and uh some some of us here might be pro-spanking now i might get canceled for that but uh um don't spake him like for no reason like for the littlest thing speaking for like you know the big things like like if your child is not going to like obviously like like come on you should know better like i shouldn't have to tell you this okay yeah just bang them a little bit but if it's just for the littlest things like there should be no reason for a beat i'm me percy just saying where where where parents might forget and uh as a former child um what what i hated was i wouldn't get an explanation now i know now as a child as a teen they always ask the question why why can't i go outside why is the sky blue why is the piano a piano there's sometimes questions we can't answer but when you neglect that why i don't think it's very effective they're going to go outside we're using this scenario okay they're curious um and uh and when we take time and it may take a lot of time kudos to all the parents here can we get an amen to all the parents here for your patients i i pat you on the back i give you an applause for your patience towards us okay when you take the time to explain the why i think there's more effectiveness there in the growing of the child why can't i go outside why can't i go to the jungle my um parents backyard was the jungle there was the rainforest growing up in mexico and and in ecuador why couldn't i go and that's how they learn if you go outside and you get bit by a snake well you learn if you put your hand on the stove when your mom and dad said no well you learned okay i think that's enough spanking for for the day they they're getting bit and they're getting burned so um explaining the why that's what i would uh mention is very important and very effective as a parent um i would uh like to see that amen and it sounded like you were it wasn't also the rod alone it's not like you actually sat down with your sons and talked to them and i and that that i'm sure was quite effective also um uh any other comments guys but sometimes the spanking doesn't really get the point across though like maybe you should like talk about you know like you know what why did you do that like why like i want to know why like maybe ask them why they did that and then you know yeah because oh the spank is gonna do nothing like you're not gonna do nothing you gotta like sit down a little bit why'd you do it and then after the spanking like you don't expect him but i actually do it like i want to know like it's like something yeah oh go ahead i just wanted to add that besides explaining when you discipline you know god even says like you just he disciplines those that he loves so in disciplining you are showing love but beyond that you're teaching your kids not to hold grudges i remember my mom used to beat me when i was younger like i'd be mad at her for so long giving her the silent treatment and it's just you're holding grudges you're teaching your child to hold grudges you're teaching them to hide their pain to hide their point of view to not be able to communicate with you so i just wanted to add to what he said that explanations really do help in understanding thank you uh i have one more question here um no it's not a question i was just gonna like say something if you if you be if okay like what todd was saying about how like you should ask the kid why before you beat them or anything if that if you want to beat them like sometimes if you don't have that good connection with your kid you're not going to be you're going to start tripping over your words like the kid is going to start tripping over their words they're not going to know what to say because they're they're not close to you and they're just going to feel like you're trying to i don't want to say attack but yeah attack them and if you have that relationship with them maybe they'll open up more but i know for a fact that when you're when you don't have that good relationship and you're getting questioned by your parent it's gonna be hard to get what you're saying what you're trying to say out or out in the right way no thank you i agree with there yeah i listen 100 so yeah what the the i think the general point we're trying to bring across is how you relate to your child is impactful and how they have interpersonal relationships going on in the future just a second if um a two-year-old acts out because that two-year-old doesn't know how to handle their emotions but at about age six most children can discern different emotions how they handle it but if between that age of two to six the child was taught to deal with conflict by spankings or let us say spanking beatings like physical abusive beatings that child will grow up highly likely to commit violence because that's the way they learned how to resolve conflict and that's the general point we're trying to bring across so if you're pro-spanking fine but understand that there should be a balance to it because you are teaching your child especially boys because boys are not as thoughtful as women so while a woman will sit down and think about the consequences a boy will act on impulse and if the impulsive behavior that he's used to is spanking and beatings then in if todd for example i'm not saying todd doesn't know but if todd goes to school and somebody comes at him with attitude well when i gave my appearance attitude well she my mom she did me real good so guess what i'm going to deal with this boy real good if he gives me attitude so understand that this is the bigger picture yeah you're creating something you're going to create something like out of all of that you're going to make something like worse than what you're trying to intend to do right my brother so if you don't have a relationship with that child because you have some fathers or some parent let me not say father you just come around with a child with disability and then the child should always respond to them you need to be around that parent need to be around so the child would relate to them when david got prideful and started to come the army that he had when the rest of the world was coming and when he found himself that he was getting prideful and he realized what he was doing and he he stepped back and god said i gotta punish you you gotta get something but god said how do you want it to punish you do you want me to do it or you want the enemies of your enemy to do that step back and say god i can trust you i prefer you do it because i know you love me that much so we should be able to relate to these children that they should be related be able to relate to us knowing that even though you don't like this banking but guess what what if i have to do it to you because i love you're a part of me and i love you it must be something for your god amen so it says my brother you're you're giving an uh uh you're explaining to your your child or the the reward that you're in charge of why this was necessary and why it's being done so like todd was saying the why this the why is important my sister happy sabbath so what i just wanted to say is that china has never been an easy task so whether we found our child a lot the most important thing as we're doing today ended now we can't end the violence by ourselves right we sing a song with jesus in the family that is happy whether you are as a child or you're spanking your children whether that if there is no love if there is no jesus in the family it doesn't matter how you try the enemy the goal is to steal them away from you so what we have to go home today is even if you are hurting even if you are a child even if you think your parents doesn't love you because they work too much they are not at home because they don't give you what you wanted you wanted to stay on your phone till 2 a.m in the morning and they say no and so you guys are fighting allow jesus to come in because when jesus comes into the heart he heals up of all brokenness amen and then that love comes in and it binds us together so as we are going home today let us not think there is a perfect family there is a perfect reality please people are doing i want to do what they are doing let us pray for god to open our eyes to use the word like brother lionel say the word is the word thank you my sister um just to piggyback what she kind of said um like that song is so popular and i hear it a lot like especially at weddings when people get married when jesus is in the family happy in the home um even in families where you like everybody is you know in the church like everybody's seventh the seventh day of venice you know everybody's strong in the lord but even you might not even realize it but the devil will slowly creep in and that family can easily just like break off that's why i think for family for those of us who come from families where devotion was like an everyday thing especially like for us like it was it's like every single night like it's always there no matter how late it is or what it is whether it's just a prayer or whether we're reading a devotional it's so important but you also really just have to pray and my mom says all the time and like i i haven't really taken it seriously until like the last year i guess where it's like you just have to keep praying um for those like type of families um yeah because it might just it comes it comes and you might not even realize it and you're like like i can't believe it's our family because you know we're all in the church like how did it happen to us but it really can't happen you just have to really look closely and pay attention closely communication i have have a lot of communication if there's no communication nothing's going to work communicate as a family talk about your differences your opinions your viewpoints and i actually get to know each other from all your perspectives so i can just make fix it because that's that's what communication is fixing an issue that's what it is and um i just want to uh leave and just reiterate the point um just pigging back off our sister um at the end of the day every single individual has to make a decision parent has to make a decision a child has to make a decision god is perfect yet satan left god's son satan left god's in the immediate presence of god in perfection he still left and took many others with him who knew who knew nothing but pure love and so for every single in if the world has us it does not matter how how great the home is if the world has you then you as a parent will walk in the ways of the world if the if the world has you doesn't matter how perfect the home is you as a child will walk in the ways of the world it doesn't matter each and every single one of us has to make a decision for ourselves our spouse can't make the decision for us our parent cannot make the decision for us our child can't make the decision for us nobody can but we ourselves but we ourselves so we have to remember that right no matter how perfect your child is it doesn't mean that you have made the decision no matter how perfect your parents are it doesn't mean that you have made the decision what is the decision that you are going to make because that is the question we all have to ask ourselves when we leave here and go back to our places right our our personal uh home thank you my brother and just quickly as as sieve in the adventist church we also have a role to play and just quickly from a panelist uh what what does the church need to do in this dynamic where there's a the this domestic abuse and uh violent youth violence just quickly um we only have a few minutes here quickly what the church what does the church need to do now what does the church need to do man just talk guys talk talk talk that's all i need to do sit down talk with your kids do all of that and every as a church in general like man i should have a meeting with your kid or maybe their friends could be going through this and they in the past man just get to know it like get like you're like be their friend be there like something tight with them be tight like i'm sorry you gotta just gotta be close with them all right but pastor quickly what what in your position has passed what what is this immediate thing that the church needs to do regarding this situation very good question church is to support one another um uh but firstly i want to say that uh there are a lot of good points here this morning and um in this panel it was a perspective from the youth maybe this chair should have been filled by a parent perhaps but uh this was a very very good panel thank you mr chairman brother foster uh and everyone else for their input very good very good points this morning the church's role to support one another i would say if you see something wrong if you see a child by himself doing something that they should not be doing help out as much as you can as a fellow church member don't come running to me don't come because if you come running to me i will say where's mom where's dad then we gotta go find mom and dad so the first person we need to look for is mom and dad uh so that we can help the child and correct them and it needs to start from their parents so support one another as a church we need to be christ-minded jesus in the home is very important uh but as church as fellow church members to support one another and uh to lend a helping hand where we can amen all right so uh we wish we had some more time we are just discussing here i want to recommend child guidance by e.g white and messages to young people so all these things will be solved read when you buy it read it digest it and go through it chat guidance and messages to young people god bless you thank you amen um so we're we're we we have this discussion another time because it's it's such a wholesome topic and there's just so much more to delve into um but we have to continue with our sabbat worship today um our evie team has a quick video for us and then we will move on to our next section and while we're keying that up we just want to say a quick prayer dear father just thank you for your blessings thank you for giving this moment to be here to enjoy this discussion help us to reach out to our youth to persons who may be having issues of violence in their life help us to embrace that mission and and bring these people closer to you in your name we pray amen thank you guys you're welcome and this week each week it's a privilege for me to be with you um in your presence wherever you are whether it's in your car or by your phone or by whatever device your the holy spirit arranged for us to meet to discuss the word of god you know discussing the scripture is very very important it helps to purify our perspectives it helps to build our faith in jesus christ draw us closer to him and help us to know god more there's a reason why god gave us the bible so that we can become strong to face virtually anything in this world the less bible you know the weaker you are today our program is about ending domestic abuse as a youth in society we need to speak out on things that are wrong so to mothers and fathers brothers and sisters male and female everyone the message is we need to end domestic violence now if you go to school you'll see people doing drugs bullying and all other kinds of stuff it needs to stop now hello i'm denton rowan from houston international uh here in houston national southern venice church here in texas and i come to join with you again this week each week it's a privilege for me to be with you um in your presence wherever you are when it's in your car or by your phone or by whatever device your the holy spirit arranged for us to meet to discuss the word of god you know discussing the scripture is very very important it helps to purify our perspectives it helps to build our faith in jesus christ draw us closer to him and help us to know god more there's a reason why god gave us the bible so that we can become strong to face virtually anything in this world the less bible you know the weaker you are the more susceptible you are to depression to anxiety to frustration but when you have a lot of god a lot of bible in you you have a lot of god in you yeah and you can cope virtually with everything because you're drawn closer to god and you tend to see life on the world from the perspective of god which is also why god creates worship his word and also pastors and teachers so that he can bring the word to us i need to remember these things and so it's my privilege i feel so privileged by god to become a voice a vehicle a pastor and a teacher to transmit the word of god to you we have been studying consistently for the past six weeks or so and nowhere on the seventh week we are looking at christ in the 28 christian beliefs we have 28 basic beliefs in the christian church that we have distilled from the word of god and we have been looking at them they are more but we have 28 who want to look at and so we want to find christ if you cannot find christ in your belief maybe you need to re-examine the belief again or to throw it out because every belief is to bring us closer to the lord and savior jesus christ we're going to begin with john chapter 1 verse 14 verses and i hope that we will have time maybe this might take two weeks i don't know we try to just do two ten minutes each time but let's see where the spirit will take us but before we go further in the word let's pray father god in heaven thank you for your scripture forgive us of all sins cleanse us from all unrighteousness be close to us as we discuss your word and use my voice i pray in jesus name amen we're looking here at uh as we look at christ in the finding christ in the 28 beliefs we're looking at the nature of man christian beliefs number uh seven where do you find christ in the nature of man you know somehow as you look at the the nature of man people have different view of the nature of man you have different view of yourself and the human nature some people have a pessimistic view of the nature of man some people have an optimistic view there are some persons who believe that there's nothing good in any man and there are some people believe that there's only good that can be found in people you know before world war one when we had come across into the industrial revolution and we start discovering science and industrialism there was an optimism as science became king and overthrow theology people thought that um the world was moving on progressively but then came world war one that devastated that optimism that the world had where it brought the worst out of human nature as the world went to war and then we emerged out of world war one and it got worse when world war ii came in the forties what emerged out of world war it was an age of despair where people became suspicious of each other and very distrustful of the human nature but what does the bible say because god was made in the image sorry man was made in the image of god by god so what does the bible have to say i'd like to begin with a strange passage of scripture um it says here in saint john chapter one in the beginning was the word and the word was with god and the word was god the same was in the beginning with god all things were made by him and without him was not anything made that was made in him was the life and the life was the light of men and the light shineth in the darkness and the darkness comprehended it not and then in verse 14 and the word became flesh and dwelt among us and we beheld his glory the only begotten of the father full of grace and truth the nature of man uh what does that have to say about human nature what does that teach us about human nature um you know there's a popular phrase that says the only normal person is the one you don't know very well once you get to know human beings once you get to know people you'll find that they are as dysfunctional as you are they are struggling with all kinds of darkness as you are and so there is something about the human nature that was born in sin god did not intended for us to be the way we are but sin came and sin caused the the elevated nature that god had made in humans to fall we talk about the fall the fall of man the fall of man's nature once we sinned once we disobeyed god once we go against what god said and once adam and eve did that in the garden of eden then the human nature fell you know and the principles still remain once we obey god and do what he says in his word in the scriptures in the once we obey god's commands and god's commandments once we do what he says we tend to elevate world gets better our minds get cleaner our hearts get purer relationships are harmonized we are drawn closer to god closer to community and closer to each other but there is something in human nature where we want to rebel against the word of god and do contrary or opposite to what god says and then we tend to fall relationships get broken we move further away from god the society get more hostile and suspicious and and people get more selfish and self-centered and they don't care about the suffering of the world as long as their stomach are filled their backs are covered with clothing and they're heads are covered with a shelter they don't care about what's happening in the world that's what happened to the fallen nature of man whenever we go against god jesus understood this so how do we find god christ understood this that in order for us to get back out of the fallen nature that we have as human beings then we'd have to get back into obedience with god what the bible has shown us from genesis right down ever since the fall of man that when when god gives his instructions somehow we cannot carry it out you know if you look at the children of israel well but first of all in the wilderness it was one episode long story of just disobedience it was the kings an episode of rebellion and we still find it through christian history and even here in the great america we find ourselves drifting away from the word of god and across the world somehow human nature in its fallen state tend to move away from god and it results in untold suffering jesus saw all of that and understood it and god knew that if we continue along that path then for him to create a new heaven and a new earth he has to destroy the old earth and the old heavens and all of us jesus out of his love came and the bible tells us here in saint john chapter 1 verse 14 christ took on human flesh he became us and what we could not do for ourselves christ came and did for us he became our death he became our lamb he took our cross the lamb is the in in the sanctuary it's it's teaching you that christ came to die for us to die our death because of our sin because of our fall because of our human nature that is tending to that christ came to pay the penalty for sin which is dead for us and then he gave us himself he gave us his life he gave us he made an exchange he exchanged his place in heaven with sinful us so that and took our place and died for us and died should i say there's a mystery there died with with the human nature he died on the cross to to pay the penalty for sinful nature so that we can receive his nature now whenever he comes the world will be restored and we will be created with new bodies new nature new everything but while we are here in this world as long as we are obedient to god and partake of him then we'll become more and more like him there's a transformation and a regeneration that will take place and we find that we start moving away from our natural sinful fallen human nature and becoming more and more like christ you know us pastors ought to model that each pastor ought to strive to become more christ-like a church of christians ought to model model that we are supposed to commit our lives to get to know christ so we can become more like him and for every person who accept jesus christ into his or her heart you'll find that the old ways all things all creation old man start to fall away and you become a new individual more peaceful more kind more loving more accepting more forgiving more graceful more considerate more like jesus christ and your nature becomes transformed no nothing in the world no no no no schooling no discipline no psychology no sociology no politics no education nothing human can change the human nature or the human heart except the lord and savior jesus christ and so it's important for us to accept him because he came and took our nature and crucified it in calvary and gave us his nature a transaction was occurred in calvary and a transaction occurs when we accept jesus christ and once we have accepted him then a transformation is experienced through obedience through prayer and through the word why don't you give your life to jesus christ and find and watch yourself become better and better intellectually socially spiritually graciously as your nature is transformed from what it was born in sin and shame and inequity till now in christ you become a new creation so christ took human nature and gave us his nature and once you accept more of jesus in you through the word through obedience to the word you take on his nature and become more like him make that transaction today and give your life to jesus it's very simple all you have to say is lord i'm a sinner i confess my sin i repent of my sin forgive me lord and come into my heart and take me and make me your own if you pray that simple prayer christ will hear you he'll accept you and you will be changed god bless you and i'll see you in the same time next week this is denton rome from houston texas er in people's lives their relationships and where they live but major differences exist in how risks impact individuals and groups we invited participants for an exercise to explore how if you witnessed or experienced violence in the home as a child take a step back if you were bullied at school take a step back if your parent lost a job and was out of work for several months take a step back if an immediate family member went to prison take a step back i didn't have a great relationship with my parents growing up they were constantly stressed and fighting often because of money i was diagnosed with adhd so i needed a lot of extra help in school and also we moved around a lot so i was constantly trying to play catch-up you know my mom and i lived in a rough neighborhood there were gangs around people out of work it was tough the big plant in town shut down people started moving away i felt like our sense of community is disappearing and it affected my relationship with my friends mostly my wife there are also things that protect people from violence in all its forms at every level if a parent or trusted adult was available to talk to you and help you tackle everyday challenges and stressors take a step forward if you were involved in sports or other school activities take a step forward if you graduated from high school take a step forward if you grew up in a community that supported education economic opportunity and recreational activities take a step forward one thing that really impacted me was a free after-school leadership program and the community we moved to and finally stayed in they had volunteers from local organizations who helped us learn leadership skills and topics we were interested in like technology science art and media they really cared about me and gave all of us what we needed to succeed throughout high school i got a new job and i got retrained i started feeling better about myself and started working out things with my wife i started appreciate the community and feel more connected yeah i think it's cool realizing that the things you enjoy can also protect you i mean i joined the track team i love those guys we hang out and do stuff together we even did a community project we helped this organization turn this old lot into a brand new community garden and a playground behind every risk and protective factor beneath every issue and intervention are real people everyone deserves to live without the threat of violence to have people to turn to relationships that are safe stable and nurturing the factor that matters most is all of us what will we do to protect those in our communities learn about the overlapping causes of violence and what protects people connect the dots at vetoviolence.cdc.gov happy sabbath pathfinders felicia conquistadores today is your day because over in 160 countries with over 2 million pathfinders and about 90 000 clubs everybody's just right now celebrating pathfinders but did you know that tx youth has sent a missionary to egypt for what you may ask to plan more pathfinder clubs and so it is our hope that in one year we can organize the first campaign for the country of egypt so keep this project in your prayer keep also giselle our missionary in your prayers and just as as we continue to celebrate today as we continue to do this wonderful ministry just remember you are a world changer hello boys and girls this is aunt frenita and good morning boys and girls and welcome to children's corner this morning i want to talk to you guys about a very important topic of abuse why are we talking about that today because today's women's ministry day focusing on ending it now what are we ending we are ending abuse first of all let us start off by defining the word abuse abuse according to the dictionary means to mistreat a person or an animal to be cruel to be mean to someone or an animal the bible is filled with so many stories so many stories of people mistreating other people people mistreating animals boys and girls do you remember the story of joseph and how his brothers got so jealous that they wanted to kill him but instead they threw him in a hole and afterwards they sold him sold their little brother into slavery boys and girls this is what we call abuse boys and girls how do we end this how do we end this now you see jesus told us in john 16 and verse 33 that in this world we will have trouble but jesus also told us that through him jesus christ we will overcome and to overcome simply means to get over something to get past it to get beyond it and how do we overcome with jesus's help first of all boys and girls we have to ask for the holy spirit to come into our hearts ask god the father to forgive us of our sins and to allow the holy spirit to live in our hearts when the holy spirit lives inside of us boys and girls guess what you will be a little bit not you but we will be a little bit kinder a little bit nicer a little bit gentler we'll say nice words we'll have smiles on our faces we'll treat each other with respect and love we will we will always with jesus in our heart boys and girls we will always want to do the golden rule do unto others as you would have them do unto you do you like to be pushed i don't think so then you should not push do you like to be bullied i don't think so then why are you a bully do you like to for others to say mean things to you i know i don't so why are you saying mean things to others boys and girls this is how we ended ending it begins with you ending it begins with me and let me ask you something parents do you know that bible also says that by beholding we become so let me ask you a question what are your children watching what are your children listening to what conversations are your children having are they allowing other influences to guide them parents ending it begins it starts with you and then it starts with me we have to be careful we have to make and set those examples for our children make sure that they're filling their minds with purity make sure that they're filling their minds with pure things pure thoughts i says in philippians 4 and verse 8 and let me read it it says finally brethren whatever things are true whatever things are noble whatever things are just whatever things are pure whatever things are lovely whatever whatever things are of good report if there is any virtue if there's anything good in it if there's anything praise worthy these are the things that we should meditate on parents we have to be careful of some of the things that our children are watching and the music that they listen to and the games that they play because the devil will get a hold of their little hearts and their little mind and then we will whole tithe into the storehouse that there may be food in my house test me in this says the lord almighty and see if i will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that there will not be room enough to store it so today let's trust the lord let's believe his promises that is the way we have to live as christians we trust and we have faith in the word of god and so the bible tells us to bring our tithes so now it is the time to bring our tithes to the lord and we will trust that he will pour out these blessings to us as he has said in his word let us pray dear father in heaven we thank you so much for your word we believe your promises and we will do our part as you ask us to bring lord and we know that you will do your part because your promises are true we trust you and and we bring our tithes today to give to you lord um may you bless each family here that is present and those online lord as we give in jesus name we pray amen so now while the please let's keep them in prayer especially as they do this humble task of selecting officers for the coming year and another thing is that we want you to turn in your surveys to inform the nominating community of your areas of interest you need to know that it's not too late to prayerfully think on what you think you can do in the house of the lord to bring the work of god going forward so please send in your survey you can do it online if you think you don't have one please you can communicate with elder sharon and just to let you know there's no bible study today what we'll be having is the afternoon section of ending it now the speaker will be touching on domestic violence youth violence talking about our homes husbands and wives how we can cooperate together to end this violence and even as singles and young adults what we need to do to make it uh to really end it now and also we need to let you know that the youth church will be held next sabbath in the obsessed fellowship it's always a lovely time to have the youth fellowship and i know that all the youth are looking forward to this and all ages are welcome and another beautiful one is that lunch will be saved but it's going to be served in a coveted friendly way not in the church premises but we have sent out messages as to where we are going to eat and of course it's going to be in the park and i'm going to re-emphasize that it's going to be in a covet-friendly way and in the park next to us and afternoon session begins 2 30 p.m we're going to have sister tamara bird sister sandra lee mass we are going to have pastor roderick and of course we are going to have sister vicky okoti joining us for the afternoon session this is not a moment you want to miss we need your voice we need your contributions so that we can end it now and um there will definitely be an empowerment breakfast tomorrow and that is going to start at 10 a.m our speakers will be available again tomorrow morning and we are going to undo a brown bag of blessings and breakfast and we want to see all your beautiful faces and just to round this section up i just want to testify to the glory of god for what god has been doing in the women ministry uh taking up the leadership position during the covet period i want to tell you it's not something anybody want to take it takes the grace of god because immediately you plan a program there is a covered rule that is already preventing that program from functioning but i want to testify to the glory of god that the woman ministry for this year we embarked on the journey it was tough uh hi as the woman ministry leader i want to say that just like every one of you i was hit bad by challenges whether life challenges challenges in my home but this looks strong but god was stronger and for the woman ministry we were able to have i mean achieve enrich and outreach we were able to go to many places to put smile on their faces and we're able to achieve our goal which was empowerment touching lives and changing lives isn't god beautiful and you are one of those people that made this happen so we testify to the glory of god as this year run out we did not overuse the budget we added more to the budget so praise the lord and thank you for your support and may god continue to help us in jesus name amen if we have elder chin and sister janet chin this is time for our intercessory prayer please and they'll be praying for the family praying for the singles the youth everyone please come straight ahead thank you hello oops good morning church happy sabbath sister margaret uh today for this occasion we want to end it we want to end violence and we want to end abuse we are in the church of god but wherever god's people meet there you're going to have the enemy thank god we know who is stronger and in him we trust let us more head in prayer and as i do that i want to thank the women for this empowerment of all homes today and forevermore let us pray holy eternal father we have come into an age where you're no more put aside but you're forever being needed so powerfully that we cannot ignore the signs of the time let holmes father be schools schools and training grounds training centers to make the home a paradise where jesus reigns we pray father that throughout all of this we will not just end it now but we will begin a new our life our conviction our commitment to a glorious time with you forever in your kingdom i pray father that as the youth are lifted up we who are the parents will not just be someone in the home but will be guardian will be shapers of those that god has put in our care we pray father that they will never go astray but there will be such beacon of life in whatever they do whatever they ask whatever they act whatever they do whatever in their profession they will be portraying the youthfulness that you have put into them to carry on from generation to generation we pray father for a powerful powerful time of giving us when we reflect on the bad and we said never any more we look forward and forever will lift you up glorifying your name for father the youth in the future and they themselves will be trainers in the right and proper righteousness of their offspring let this the fruits of their womb be a blessing to all nations let the fruit of their speech be another stepping stone to bring people into your fold let their act let their language let their speech let their love exude what they are now experience but let them see in their home something to emulate something to lift god up and say yes i am living in the time of our lord so i pray for the youth and i pray for that that all that powerful powerful family unit which is a church your church god that will carry them forward so father i lift them up in jesus name i pray amen thank you at this time let me ask the congregation to stand let us continue to pray our dear loving father how we thank you for this opportunity to praise your name we thank you lord that you have called us to where we can search your scriptures and learn from these wonderful presenters how best to go forward with our youth in mind we remember the scripture which says children are an heritage from the lord these children grow up but we have to guide them in the path we ask a blessing on our children that they will give listening air not only to their parents but also to your word we ask o lord that you will direct their steps we pray that your holy angels will cover their path to keep them from danger and we pray that wherever abuse and violence exist in the home in the community in the society in the world at large that they will based upon your principles will able to choose right from wrong we ask that you will protect the innocent who have been preyed upon even by family members or out in the public the friends that we trust most are sometimes listening to the voice of the enemy to afflict these children we pray oh lord for our deliverance from such thank you lord that there is a bomb in gilead wherever and whenever the serpent lifts his head jesus is there to bring us back and restore us be with those who have wandered far from home we continue to trust you and we ask ourselves the question if we do not stand in the gap for them who will lord you have entrusted their care to us we pray that we with them will continue to walk not in our own might and strength but as thus said the lord remembering that jesus has never lost a battle so we pray for a special protection upon the youth we go back to know where they come from the homes and the church the community have mercy on us oh lord bless this gathering today may our worship be acceptable in your sight forgive us of our sins and grant us to start on a new page of recovery surrender and conversion thank you in jesus name amen you may be you may be seated right now we are going to have the bible reading and it's going to be done in three languages eastern international is a diverse church with more than 30 different uh countries but we are going to use three of them so we're going to do it in chinese in spanish and english so amen so we start with chinese spanish and english thank you today's our bible verse is revelation 12 and verse 17 and i will read in chinese long foreign foreign amen happy sell back to you oh elaborating this morning is carefully selected from the book of revelation um chapter 12 verse 17. let's pray but i open down a heart to behold one last thing out of your word in christ's name it says and the dragon was wrought with a woman and went to make war with the remnant of his seed which keep the commandment of god and the faith and and have the testimony of jesus christ may the lord bless the reading of his word in jesus name thank you thank you thank you everyone thank you yes so we have come to the session that one of the sessions that i really love in divine service and when it is time for us to listen to the word of god and it's my humble tax today to introduce the speaker of the day and after i am done with the introduction we are going to have a special song from sister megan that will usher in our speaker for today this is not my first time of introducing her and i'm glad to do it again so our speaker for this divine howard is sister sandra lee mass when i approached and i told her sister cindy you're going to preach again today she said oh no there are so many speakers out there you know i don't want it to be like i'm going to be the one that will be coming every time i said sister sandy i didn't just unpick you i prayed and i was inspired to call you and when i send out the message she did not answer immediately i knew that she was praying to really get the answer from god so sister sandra lee mass has been serving in the area of women's ministry for almost two decades she has been married for 32 years to avril merc and i have the privilege of having the husband here there's no time she comes around the husband is always available to give her good support thank you so much for coming and um like i said she's been married for 32 years and they have two young adult children kiki kiki is a daughter and jay is the son as a missionary sandy has traveled to the caribbean the uk and india on speaking or signing assignments she has authored christian devotionals for the general conference women's ministry department which helps to raise funds for young women to attend college she also has a devotional column on the texas conference women's ministry facebook page and let me just quickly say that i want to thank you for the devotional you sent to me every morning i love that that's always the second thing i go to after my personal devotion and she loves people she actually loves people she's very very sacrificial in common she doesn't ask for anything she just come to do what god has called her to do i am so so impressed about that and um she's passionate about evangelism and the medical missionary work she really enjoys being in nature and maybe that's one of the reasons we are going to be eating in the park today she loves traveling she loves decorating and she likes trying new plant-based recipes and this is the always the last part i always love to introduce about her sandy however only wants you all whether you are watching us online whether you are in the church she wanted to know her as a girl that loves jesus christ thank you so much for coming and after the song it's going to be you right away thank you oh lord my god when i in awesome wonder consider all the worlds thy hands have made i see the stars i hear the rolling thunder thy power throughout the universe displayed then sings my soul savior god to thee how great thou art how great then sings my soul my savior how great how and when i think that god is that on the cross my burden gladly bearing he bled and died to take away my sin then sings my soul my savior how great thou art how great thou then sings my soul my savior god to thee how great how great the heart when christ shall come with shouts of acclamation take me home what joy shall fill my heart then i shall bow in humble adoration and then proclaim my god how great thou art then sings my soul how great thou art then sings my soul my savior how great thou art how great thou art how great thou art how great amen um because we click and we connect as communities because we care seventh-day adventists are people who connect in communities called congregations which in turn connect to form conferences who connect together to form unions divisions and the general conference why do we connect it starts with a connection to the creator who invites us on a spiritual journey when we journey together we can help each other along the way this journey is a journey of a lifetime and as we learn and grow life becomes filled with meaning and purpose our greatest joy is in helping others along the way wherever you are on your journey we believe that we have something to offer that can make your life more whole so the next time you see a seventh-day adventist remember you're not looking at someone who stands alone they are connected to a world church that has 18 million members gathered in 13 divisions comprised of 122 unions formed by 600 conferences serving in 140 000 congregations in 208 countries who worship in 924 languages and they all want to connect with you oh security that so is is is is and i think that this message today is a very personal message can you hear me um sort of a housewarming party and so i got everything all organized the house was clean the food the decorations everything was all nice and pretty but the kids were little and they were running around and by the time the party was supposed to start there was just one room that looked like a mess i mean a real mess the kids had their toys and all that kinds of stuff so i just basically shoved everything in there and close the door and so the guests came and we were all dressed up looking nice everything was set and then this person asked me to use the bathroom and i told her which door it was and everything and then as i was going in the kitchen to pick up something i saw her coming out the messy room and i almost died i just felt like everything else why did you have to go into that room the rest of the house was clean all of the decorations the food everything and my heart sank my heart sank because she had found my dirty little secrets and brethren that is what domestic violence and that is what abuse in the church is it's a dirty little room in our church one that we try to hide one every whole hope that the door will remain locked but i'm telling you today we're going to open it because the bible says that if you cover your sins you will not prosper and until we recognize you know when somebody is an alcoholic they go to alcohol anonymous and they said hi my name is so-and-so and admits that they have a problem until the person is able to do that there's no healing there's no restoration and so i've spent this whole week talking to friends about stuff that has happened and when i say this i don't want anybody to get offended this is not against men this is not against women because i am so glad that sister tamara had last night so she established scientifically statistically that problems that happen with abuse happens right in our very homes and so that's the challenge that the lord has laid upon me and so when we read our scripture typically we i'd like to get the scripture back up on the screen please where we know that satan is wrought with the woman and typically as adventists we refer to the woman as the church and so either which way you take it prophetically speaking satan is mad with god's people and so when the war took place in heaven it was not like they had ammunition remember heaven was a place of peace heaven was a place of order heaven was a place of tranquility god didn't have any bombers and hummers and land mines up there no no no no bridging it was a war of words it was a war of wills satan wanted his will to supersede that of almighty god and so today the home in heaven was disturbed and in the home in the garden was again later disturbed and it continues down to this generation and what i'm going to share with you i have permission from some of my friends and so i just wanted to recognize that in the adventist church there are people that are and could be sitting here in this congregation that have been victims of abuse i have a dear friend who she lived with her aunt and her grandmother and i have permission for all these stories because i want you all to see that it's real and if there's somebody in here that is experiencing that that we understand and we're sorry for what you're going through and we're praying that god will bring healing and intervention today and so she lived with this very tyrannical aunt who basically was the saddam hussein of the household but her husband used to peep on my friend every time she goes to the shower and she lived with that because who could she go to she couldn't tell anybody she couldn't tell the grandmother because then the grandmother would tell her aunt and then the aunt will you see so she lived with it today she suffers from hypertension for years she suffered from anxiety because of all that bottled up repressed fear i have another friend who his stepfather would beat his mom so much that he would read and read to escape reality and today he has walked away from this adventist church and he wants nothing to do with church i have another friend who was the daughter of a pastor and he would be doing cap meetings and sometimes they'd be out running in the back and she was molested wants nothing to do with the church i myself was a victim of sexual harassment at work and i remember that day that i got so sick and i stayed home for like two weeks and when i finally had had the sick leave paper up the morning i woke up my heart was racing and my legs were like lead and i called my husband and i told him and he said give me the email address and he wrote the resignation letter bridget when somebody victimizes you and belittle you and strip you of your self-esteem i am here today to tell you it is not of god it is a satanic attack of the highest degree god made us beautiful pure holy and satan came with his nasty lies and stripped it i know boys who have been molested by parents their parents a lot of what you're seeing these gender uh mixtures of people not being able to identify who they are because there's abuse that is happening in the homes a lot of these young people when you see stuff like that happening they're being bullied at school i know of a case where a young boy was molested at a pathfinder meeting and so we don't like to talk about these things quite frankly i don't even want to i tell you i've been up all night i've been praying to ask god to give me the strength to deliver this message because i believe that god wants everybody to get to a place where the past or the present that is hurting that is breaking them has to be broken it has to stop it has to stop we cannot be coming to church and we cannot be hurting at the same time there are people there are children in this church and i'm not talking about this church here but in this church they're just waiting they're just waiting to get a place where they can just get out of their parents homes there is so much suicidal tendencies and with coronavirus and all of that there are young women in particular young women seem to suffer more it's sort of like a hormonal thing but the statistics have proven or either it is that boys don't show it as much because you know men are made different to women but the statistics are indicating that especially drew in this pandemic you know girls are very social they want to meet with their girlfriends they want to go over to their girlfriend's home they want to go to the mall and so their suffering there has been a high increase in suicidal tendencies and what are we going to do as a church are we just going to ignore it are we just going to say i'll pray for you or are we going to do something because i'm telling you brethren prayer is powerful prayer is good but when sticks and stones hit your bones you need more than prayer to fix it and sometimes these people they have never been given the opportunity to bring closure they live with these people and they have to pretend and these people come to church and they stand in pulpits at times and act as if everything is right and their lives are like filthy sepulchers brethren it is a time for us to examine where we are as a church because jesus is coming jesus is coming and it makes no sense for you and i to be caught on the outside of god's mercies it makes absolutely no sense when god gave adam and eve the garden it was his intent that day would become a mission field for him and so god's ideal for the church it's not what the church might look like today this is why i like the uh the lap mics it says the servant of the lord in the book adventist home said home religion precedes that in the church in the home the foundation is laid for the prosperity of the church the influence that rules in the home life are carried into the church life therefore church duties should first begin in the home strong home strong church strong community strong world when we have good home religion we will have excellent meat and religion because the children will be seeing their parents honoring god living for god doing what god wants them to do she says also the home in which the members are polite imagine that the servant of the lord had to to put that in there because some people are just plain out rude and huggish sometimes you hear parents talk to their children and you just wonder if god spoke to them like that because remember children are a heritage of the lord they don't belong to us they are god's properties we are to train and instruct them but we are not to bully them i mean not to bully our wives i mean not to bully our spouses neither because some of us are living with domestic terrorists i knew a lady from the time her husband drove up she would just break out in hives and i knew a gentleman that from the time his wife drove up he would fall asleep domestic terrorists i tell you some folks there are longing for some homeland security because it's rough at home the home in which the parents of polite courteous christians exerts a far reaching influence for good other families will mark the results other other other other families will mark the results attained by such a home and will follow the example set in their turn garden the home against satanic influences bridging it is satanic influences under the power of divine grace such a home becomes a place of refreshing for the worn weary pilgrims by watchful guarding self is kept from asserting itself i know we often say love is not puffed up love is not rude so when you have a home where people are polite they're not going to be trying to bully somebody else it's not gonna be my way or no way it's gonna be let's do it god's way because that's a home that will be happy with the love of jesus christ the servant of the lord goes on to say just as you conduct yourself in your home life you are registered listen to this you are registered in the books of heaven so when you come to church and sabbath and you want to act all cute when you come to jesus heavy savage this is sandy how are you this is him how are you doing the angels was like that's her sabbath attitude yeah but all during the week oh my goodness when you come home the kids scatter when you get to work everybody's like um but then you come to church and it's like praise the lord praise the lord let the earth hear my voice praise the lord and the lord is looking at you like yeah i see i saw what they wrote up until 9 15 before he got here like i have a friend she's from syn kids and she would say wicked like a nothing but it's being registered you know we failed to to realize that we have all those ring stuff on our door and we have all the security cameras and we're taping everything but we forget that god has a panoramic view of our lives there's nothing nothing nothing that escapes him because the word of god says that we're gonna every thought word and deed account for just as you conduct yourselves in your home life you are registered in the books of heaven he who would become a saint in heaven must first become a saint in his own family if fathers and mothers are true christians meaning that their false ones in the family they will be useful members of the church and will be able to conduct affairs in the church and in society after the same manner in which they conduct their families parents let not your religion be simply a profession but let it be a reality and this is one of the reasons that we have a lot of young people leaving our church because they see the falseness in us they see the arguments they see the fact that you're not honoring each other even sometimes when they go to the christian schools when they go to our adventist schools they see the teacher being mean now i'm not saying that you don't have to be firm i'm not saying you have to discipline each other but we must do it in love remember that we are to reflect christ in everything and i tell you a lot of times when you see children like sister tamara said yesterday when you see they're having problems sometimes we don't even stop to ask them what is happening children are so fearful even in their own homes and then they come to church and we don't show them love when you're broken when you're going through something you want people to extend a hand to you you want people to be there for you how can children then grow up not being nurtured not being loved not being cared for how can they then turn around i love jesus we are their example we are the ones to represent jesus christ and so all of this abuse that is happening with the bullying that's happening in school children are taking anger and frustrations from their homes and taking it into the world and sometimes you have an innocent child sometimes you're doing the best and that child comes up against a child who is in the worst and you know the thing about it is sometimes too and i've been guilty of this i'll just be honest you know you tell your child you stay away from that boy it's bad news or that girl i'm guilty since we're going to be honest i'm just going to be honest really and then later on god has told me but why didn't you try to help the child why didn't you try to pray for the child or pray for the mother speak to the mother because you don't know what happened to that person and yes the word of god talks about the friends that we keep but brethren you have to remember that we are ambassadors for christ we are sent here we are placed here to rescue those that are hurting those that are broken we're not just associated with those that have already been fixed what did christ said i came to seek and save those that which were lost we're already saved so we need to work on those on the outside the book bible principle says that there is a need for constant watching that the principles which lie at the foundation of family government are not disregarded the lord designs that the family on earth shall be symbols of the family in heaven so we're practicing here there's a place where ellen white said that the angels told jesus don't bring those earthlings here unless they know how to behave we don't want them digging up the gold we don't want them stealing all the mangoes we don't want them dropping their clothes all over the glass homes we're practicing brethren we are practicing here on urge for when we get to heaven and if we see the signs that are fulfilling right now i mean do you have in floods in europe when you're having pestilences when you're having earthquakes and volcanoes erupting and stuff like that bregen we are close to the return of jesus christ and so you know when um somebody's coming over what do you try to do not like me don't shove stuff in in one room you try to basically clean you try to make sure that everything is all in order and that is what we need to do today there are women in this church there are men in this church who are still suffering from the pain and the hurt of their childhood and we my dear brethren have to be helpful in bringing about restoration when the family on earth are conducted in the right lines the same sanctification of the spirit will be brought into the church so when we get it right at home god is then able to do a work the book adventist home says that parents should themselves be converted and know what it is to be in submission to god's will and i'm not just trying to pick on the parents but parents you are the government for god you are the ones that represent god here and so since we're dealing with the home the parents have to get it right and sometimes we have two broken people that come together and then self clashes because you know sometimes a woman will marry a man and she wants him to be her prince charming and then the man marries the woman and he wants her to be his mother it doesn't work it's not going to work two different roles and that's why sometimes you know ellen white says when you're getting married if you used to pray twice a day you need to pray a hundred times a day you know she didn't no but i mean seriously because she also said that this could determine your life here or your life to come she basically said that some of us when we marry these people unbelievers and you could be an unbeliever in the church there is adventist and then there is adventist and so she said that this could literally determine what are you making it whether you slide in or what are you walking and so you got to pray you got to pray that this person have you ever thought that if you died with your husband or would your wife maintain the standard that you wanted for your family spiritually not financially only spiritually pregnant there's a lot riding on steak here she says the little children bring it into captivity the thoughts of the will of jesus christ before they can rightly represent the government that god designed should exist in families and so this is an important thing because i just showed you where she said that the parents the parents need to be converted but in the book great controversy page 468 it says without the law men have no and this is not just men alone i'm talking about men women boys and girls men have no just conception of the purity and holiness of god or of their own guilt and uncleanness she said the hope of salvation is accepted without a radical change of heart or reformation of life thus superficial conversions abound and multitudes are joined to this adventist church who have never been united to jesus christ so people come into the church and they have no real concept of what it is like to be in god and so we have a bunch of unconverted people walking around in the guise of a church brethren when we come to god when we accept the ten commandments there has to be there will be true conversion if you are submitted to christ and when you walk submitted to god the holy spirit will correct you the holy spirit will tell you cannot hit your wife the holy spirit was tell your wife you cannot insult the man in front of people you cannot belittle him the holy spirit will tell you you cannot speak to your children as if they're dogs the holy spirit softens the character of those who are converted because christ never picked up a stone to hit anybody christ never withheld finances from anybody christ never spoke down to anybody when they dragged that woman naked caught in adultery and let me tell you something when the ten commandment says thou shalt not commit adultery it doesn't just mean you leaving your husband or vice versa we commit adultery with god he said you've gone a in you've committed adultery you know what i mean you have broken your relationship with god you're flirting with the world and so brethren i'm telling you when the spirit of god fills your heart and your mind and your life we would stop we will literally end having these types of meetings the general conference will wipe this department out completely and that money will be diverted to evangelism but we have to deal with this and we've been dealing with it for so long now that the campaigns are becoming larger and larger so that means we're not interested in ending it now we're not if this item remains on the agenda you work whenever something is table what does it mean it was not resolved so you got to go and deal with it again and so this this domestic violence this abuse in the church has been tabled and tabled and now it has a whole room it's in a dining room so we don't want to end it now we love eating at that table we love eating at that table but god said that he's able psalms 19 says who can understand his errors cleanse down me from my secret faults god is able the secret things that make you just erupt god is able to do that verse 13 says keep back thy servant also from presumptuous sins let them not have dominion over me then shall i be upright and shall be innocent from the great transgression when your wife says something and you hit that woman and he said see what you made me do no no no no you did that the word of god says for every temptation taken man god will make a way of escape and when you open your mouth women and you say stuff god says that you're able to bridle your tongue brethren this is about individual sanctification this is about individual salvation when you realize that your soul is on the barbecue grill you'll think twice every word every word is being recorded every act god is keeping exact record of it i want to read something to you from one of the testimonies it says satan is ever ready to take advantage when any matter of variance arises and by moving upon the objectionable hereditary traits of characters in husband or wife he will try to cause the alienation of those who have united their interests in a solemn covenant before god in the marriage vows they have promised to be as one the wife covenanting to love and obey her husband the husband promising to love and cherish his wife if the law of god is obeyed the demon the demon of strife will be kept out of the family and no separation of interest will take place no alienation of affection of affection you will not withhold your love you know that is a sin to withhold your love from your wife or from your husband or from your children is a sin it is a sin brethren when you are in a position to do something for somebody you have the right to do it that was what they were talking about with a good samaritan they walked on by they were all in a position to help but one stopped by that person who represented christ jesus and bridging i'm here to tell you today that if you're in a position sometimes even if you have a a sibling who was a child and that sibling had been hurt or abused and you see them speaking to their children speaking to their spouse vice versa in a mean way you have a right to correct them because that is wrong if you stand idly by and say nothing and do nothing god will hold you accountable you don't have to say that's not my business even if you pray but you ask god to help you find a way to intervene you don't just see somebody being brutalized you don't just see somebody being hurt and said that's not that's you know we used to say a long time in training that that's husband and wife business and sometimes yeah you do get bitten after they make up and then they call you the but at least you would have tried and god would have seen that you tried and god will work it out brethren we are living in a world where it is satan who is behind all of this abuse it is satan when we are having these things we need to get down in prayer and fasting brethren because the enemy is determined to destroy us to destroy our homes to destroy our lives to destroy our witness when people come to this church and they're going through stuff and we are not equipped to help them they will walk away you know the majority of time children commit suicide when they realize that the parents are unable to help because that's when they feel that all hope is lost if the parent is able to intervene they feel like there is hope when a man covers his wife she could face anything and then she wants to give back to the husband she will minister to the husband but when there is a fight in it's like you in your corner are in my corner i don't care about you and satan sits there and ellen white said she had a dream where she literally saw him and when we argue and fight she said she saw him laugh that he was able to succeed in bringing division and discord brethren there's a day when jesus is going to laugh too and you don't want him laughing at you you don't want him laughing at you god has given us power god has given us strength james 1 20 says for the anger of a man does not produce righteousness of god don't let your anger overtake you my dear brethren don't let it overtake you proverbs 16 32 says he that is slow to anger is better than the mighty and he had ruled his spirits and he'd had taken a city alexander conquered the whole known world at that time but they're bridging he's saying god is saying today if you could control your temper if you could control your attitude you're stronger than something you're stronger than a person who could take a city because when you're on the fire and god the spirit gives you quietness of spirits and you represent christ that is the acid test brethren nobody nobody in this church should be abused can you imagine what it is like for a father to a molest his child you watch your own daughter and you turn around and molest that child brethren that is a mind that is not connected to jesus christ it is not when you have a mother that will speak stuff to your daughter and make them feel like they they're not important that they're stupid that is not a mind connected to jesus christ when you have a child that will bully another sibling that is not a mind connected to jesus christ we need to plug the mind back in we need to plug it back in and we need to be serious about it we need to be serious about it don't come up in here playing church because the day of judgment will come upon you all and as we're talking i want to bring something here about the children you know some of us we we we want to treat our children a certain way but we must realize that children are not to be forced god never forced you to become a christian he said come he then said come he said come let us reason together you know because if god was that type of a god you know we wouldn't be here today we definitely he would have zap satan like a bug smacker that would have been the end of the story and everybody would have been walking straight straight nobody falling out line but that's what i'm showing you brethren that is the government of satan the tyranny the bullying the force belongs to the enemy and brethren i'm not here to judge you because everybody are broken you know we have stuff like i said but we need to give it to jesus children cannot be brought to the lord by force they can be led but not driven my sheep hear my voice and this is how we have to teach our children they said if we use harshness and unreasonableness we will force these souls into satan's net i tell you bread when it's satan behind it there's no middle ground it's satan behind the abuse it's satan behind a tyranny colossians 3 8 says but now you must put them all away anger wrath malice slander and obscene talk from your mouth because words hurt where it's hurt you know sometimes if you get a broken leg if you're in a domestic violence relationship and and somebody hits you it hurts and they shouldn't even if they break your arm or something like that it hurts but that could kind of men sometimes your arm might be a little funny and and you know you'll get by the day and not every minute you'll think about the abuse if you get out of the relationship but bridging i tell you words words linga they ling you know that is why god spoke god spoke everything into being he says faith coming by hearing and fear also fear also we have done studies in in university where if a teacher walks into a room and she says to this class okay my name is sandra lee mars and i'm going to be your ap class teacher and nobody's ever passed my class yet and i don't expect you to pass not one child will pass that class it doesn't mean that their brilliance went down but from the jump they were told you are a failure nobody has ever passed my class and you ain't gone past anita and that's why god says beautiful words wonderful words god gives us wonderful words of life and brethren that is what we need to do you need to ask god to heal you you know when you guys know i'm always in england love england the lots of christian background history in england it is it is such a country full of christian heritage and now it is a post-christian society like the rest of the world it is so sad it is so sad like you're sitting on a gold mine of wealth and you just don't even realize it perturbing and so are we we are sitting in a gold mine as an adventist church god has given us this this powerful message and we're allowing these things to distract us and take our minds over the things that we should be focused on and i had the opportunity to visit john wesley's home and you know even these superheroes for god faced abuse he was married to this woman and john wesley was committed and he would go out on all these long pilgrimages and as i was doing the tour and jordan was he was a small man he was a really small man when i saw the picture says you know god is amazing because he could take a small man in stature to make him do mighty works for the kingdom of god and as we you know she was always upset because she felt that he was always aware he was always doing god's work and she told he told him one time he wrote her letter you know the british they would write these letters and he said something like thou should not worry about such things my love you know those kinds he says focus on god simplicity of life paraphrasing but then when the tour guide told us that one day molly was her name which was nicknamed molly her name was mary one day she grabbed wesley by the hair and basically mopped the floor with him yep and and so while we were on the tour i was like what she said yes bye to here and mop the floor basically she dragged the man across the floor so that's why i'm saying abuse is not just about women men suffer at the hands of women young boys suffer at the the hands of broken fathers and broken mothers they will beat the life out of these children insult and intimidate boys make them feel like they're no good and then when they grow up with no self-esteem then whoever marries them inherits that bag of mess it's not his fault it's not his fault it's a broken world and we have broken people and then brenda wald some of you might know her brenda watch beautiful young lady and you know this is a thing abuse sneaks up on people you know when nicole kidman married o.j simpson sometimes abuse is so shameful that you believe it's your fault you stay there and you deal with it and i'm telling you i've seen and we've worked with girls who are being abused at home but i'm telling you if that child if that girl was to be attacked by somebody on the street they will fight back they would if a boy that is being molested or being bullied at home if somebody attacks him in school he will fight back you know what makes a difference at home the brokenness of love they cannot be they will stay and take that until they can leave because deep in the heart of the child remember that dna of that child belongs to the mother and the father they will stay they will keep hoping against hope that that relationship could be repaired because that's the way god created us and so brenda wald beautiful young lady she got married and she was beaten when we heard the story i couldn't believe it she said that the husband would beat her and fling her on the ground naked he broke her teeth so many times she was in the hospital sometimes she would you know be on the ground trembling cold and she said sometimes she would just try to reach for the cover the comforter and if he woke up he would kick her he will beat her again so sometimes for tonight she would lay on the ground cold and beaten and battered and she was so ashamed and that's what satan does satan does the wrong and then makes you feel shame but it is the most powerful thing and god is saying i love you i've called you as a woman i've called you as a man and we say no thanks i prefer to stay broken god is saying i've engraved you in the palm of my hand but you don't want to give it up and so brethren when we hear these things but she went on to live a life and she has a book that's called battered to blessed batted to bless god is saying to us today brethren i am the one i am the only one who can rescue you in this situation if we were all ready now today to give our hearts and our lives and our will to god you know that we could end it right now we could mend it right now but some of us want to hold on some of us want to hold on i want to give you a scripture when the lord said for those of you that are facing violence in your home violence and relationship second samuel says the lord is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer the god of my rock in him will i trust he is my shield and the horn of my salvation my high tower and my refuge my savior and that savior what does the savior do he saves you he saves you brethren if you're in an abusive relationship god is able to save you says thou saves me from violence i will call on the lord who is worthy to be praised so shall i be saved from my enemies because the person that is abusing you is an enemy but then god also said to pray for your enemies brethren as i close i want some of you to realize there's baggage some of you don't want to let go of the childhood pain the abuse some of you don't want to let go of the shame of the bullying some of you don't want to let go of the stuff that happened in your childhood because god can't fix that no god god just can't do that you're a babe in christ but you will never be a new creature right because you're holding on to that bag you got a small bag some of us have big bags what is what is starting to happen to me here at bredring some of you holding on to the bag of shopping too much to draw away the depression some of you holding on to all bags and you wouldn't let jesus give you something new some of you just have garbage bags garbage garbage garbage bags because you wouldn't let go and you know this box has altered state some of us our minds are in an altered state it's altered by god but what are you seeing brethren what are you seeing here my hands are so filled with bags the baggage is baggage we have all this baggage you see they're hurting people that bring their baggage into other people's lives pull them down give it to jesus give it to god it's only god that can clear your mind it is only god can take that pain it's only god when he was there when you were crying when you were being beaten it was god that was there when you had that abortion it was god that was there when you lost your mother and then you lived with your aunt who beat you it was god that was there when the person you taught would love you forever walked away it was god that was there when you would wait knowing night after night the person would come to abuse you god is still there give the baggage to jesus christ he said come and we're dealing with the lesson to study about rest he says come unto me all ye that are heavy laden i am the only one that can give you rest give jesus because you see when you got all those bags in your hand god cannot bless you you don't have room to hold the blessing you don't have room to hold the reconciliation you don't have room to hold the renewal because you're holding on to all the bags and it's weighing you down the bags are weighing you down one day i was walking to the mall and i'm gonna undo the scroll and i like to think about this scroll as a scroll that god would read when he comes because you know we are children of god and i was praying and asking god to help me with my children to be a better mom and i came across this beautiful plaque and i want to read it for you and it says one day when my children are grown i hope they still come through the front door without knocking that means the home is always open they don't have to call don't have to say mom and dad can i come over i want him to walk to the door without knocking in you know who said that jesus said that he says come boldly come before the throne i love you you don't have to make a reservation you don't have to make a phone call just come they'll still come to the front door without knocking i hope they head to the kitchen for a snack and rifle through the mail looking for a magazine they always read i pray their brethren that my children will look for the magazine of the word of god i pray that they will always find a snack in our home because there's a snack in jesus's home he says i am the bread of life i hope they come in and feel the weight of adulthood leave them when they come home let them feel as if all the carers are gone you know my daughter is dirty and my son is 27. and sometimes when they curl up between april and i you know that is like the best feeling in the world you know we we're we're from the island sister janet and there was no one so growing up people say sometimes you say let me tell you the melee that's that's the old talk or the chat so when my kids come i could be doing what when they come and he says mom let me give you the melee i lay aside everything the other day my son came to give me the melee like one o'clock in the morning my eyes was closing april is asleep because he has to go to work and i listen to the melee you know why because when you have the melee the mess in your life and you go to jesus one o'clock one thirty two o'clock three o'clock four o'clock he's saying come i'm listening i'm listening bret when god is listening i want him to feel that adulthood leave them for they are home for my children my door will always forever be open above all else i hope they know this without me telling them i hope love speaks clearly enough but when god is love god is love and it is only love can make us happy it is only love can make us whole and love will heal those broken people and heal their sin-sick soul to the disciples jesus said my peace i give unto you john 14 27 peace and quiet brethren are twins and when you're in an abusive relationship there's hardly any peace and quiet in that home there's hardly any peace and quiet in that heart because when you're bringing fear fear brings torment and so we need to pray and ask god to give us peace and quiet god's peace in the soul produces quietness so if you're having trouble breathing if you're running from your past and you can't seem to shug it off stop and let jesus hold you in his peaceful quiet arms we must know by experience that the way of escape from the turmoil and unrest in the world is found in the peace in christ alone although there is no escape from the uncertainties of life because jesus said that there are in christ will suffer persecution he didn't lie you see certain lies susan tells you i'll give you everything i'll make you famous i'll make you rich i'll give you that husband i will give you everything that he will take you on helicopter rides for your anniversary and then he could barely buy a yaris satan is the one that lies satan will tell you that that girl is so pretty and she saw this and then she gets in there and she can't cook and she can't do anything but god will tell you the truth children will lie children will come home and tell you they did the homework and then the teacher will call you and tell you they're not doing their assignments satan is the one who lies but god tells you the truth and he give you a little time to you know soak it in like like you know how you marinate kale but he will stay there he will stick with you in the bitter truth i'm coming to an end although there is no escape from the uncertainties of life thank god there can be and there will be relaxation of inattentions the tensions that are in your heart when the prince of peace rules supremely in our lives when god is eager for his children to enjoy quietness that is found only in his presence he asked job when he give it quietness who then can make trouble job 34 29 there is nothing brethren if you don't if you haven't heard anything if you haven't listened to anything i've said listen to this please please wake up it says there is nothing so destructive and damaging spiritually as worry and fear one of the outstanding signs of true greatness is quietness in the face of hardships trials reverses and i want to say abuse often misfortune comes because we do not know how to live quietly how to be still at the proper time stillness of person and steadiness of features are signal marks of a relationship with christ brethren i am not here to say that what you have been through is not valid i'm just here to tell you give it to jesus give your heart to jesus give your life to jesus give your will to jesus and he will begin this healing process we are praying this whole weekend that peace will be in our homes i don't want to leave this with you it says prince of peace control my will bid this struggling heart be still bid my fears and doubting cease hush my spirit into peace brethren where peace is the prince of darkness cannot be we are all broken we're all broken people i'm broken you're broken and jesus is saying come come come today let me take away the temper let me take away your anger let me take away your frustration let me take your low self-esteem let me take the lovelessness let me take away the the hurt is income come and i will give you my peace brethren if that is something that you want today if you want our boys and girls to feel safer if you want your home to be happier if you want to see your wife in heaven if you want to see your husband in heaven if you want to see yourself in heaven let's take a stand stand with me please and mean what you say ask god to lay a broken person in your heart ask god to give you the power to feel the lies around you that are falling apart ask god to give you compassion ask god to give you peace because it is only when peace is in the heart can we find true joy and with that peace comes forgiveness because a lot of times one of the hardest things that we have to do is forgive that person that hurt you forgive that person that molested you forgive that person that violated you forgive that person who round you robbed your innocence but brethren we all have sinned and come short of god's glory and god says i'm faithful and just to forgive you and he will cleanse you he will cleanse the dirt that you feel brethren and he will make you whole trust jesus today my dear brethren and he will give you peace heavenly father you see your people father we're standing today and we're committed to the fact that it's only you oh god who can take away the baggage the baggage of anger the baggage of unforgiveness the baggage of pain the baggage of sexual immorality the baggage of violence the baggage of rape the baggage of being abused there's somebody here today that their mother told them that they were nothing there's a boy here whose father never appreciated him their children today their god who are feeling hurt and pain and neglected they're being raised by nintendo and all those games they're gone and their parents depended on them to come to sabbath school to be taught about jesus god we need you now we need you now god we see the signs of your return and we're saying we're not ready god we're seeing all the mess we're seeing all the brokenness in the church oh no god we're saying we want to change we're saying we want to give it up we're saying dear god or we need you we want peace in our hearts we want peace in our lives and lord jesus we want peace in our homes i ask us all in jesus holy name amen amen if home is then home must be a place we all can share for even with our differences our hearts are much the same for where love is we come together there wherever there is laughtering someone smiling someone dreaming we can live together singing where a tender heart is with love our hearts can be a family and hope can bring this family face to when love brings us together in one place wherever there is someone smiling someone dreaming we can live together there love will be we can live together will be will be will be ringing someone smiling someone dreaming we singing is would be with me wherever there is laughter ringing someone's smiling someone's
