Roubo Workbench Upgrades // Benchcrafted Planing Stop

[Music] one of the first hurdles most woodworkers cross when first getting into the craft is keeping work still i've seen videos in some countries where they use their feet as work holding but unlike my face my feet aren't fit for the big screen so that brings us to the robo workbench which you may have remembered where we'll be adding a plane stop sort of endpoint it's good working here i apologize in advance that this video is a little plain but don't stop watching welcome to the shop i'm nick and let's get dusty [Music] who doesn't love a good workbench upgrade i guarantee this one's going to be different than anyone you've seen before i got some tricks up my sleeve leave first things first though bingecraft did not sponsor this not for lack of trying but i did use all of their hardware on my bench and this planing stop is by them and they make really nice stuff most of the planning stops i've seen online have been more of a rectangular shape and that's great but this barbie bench needs a little something more and i didn't have three inch thick stock so first up is just getting it the two book match pieces glued together and we'll get that shaped cut out [Music] by no means is this design unique so i'm just trying to do anything i can with the shape to spice things up a bit now this came with all the hardware and this is just counter boring for the cap screws and getting that bolt that joins the two together into the post [Music] now i could have stopped here and it would have functioned just fine but that would just be plain mad so i'm going to inset the claw in the top of the post [Music] [Music] uh yes that's better now we just need a mortise for which to stick it into 10 out of 10 recommend these wood owl bits they go through so nice and clean i'll link them down in the description below if you're interested [Applause] [Music] and after a little chop chop chop and double check for square we've got a mortise and in this instance we're going to be oversizing the post and undersizing the mortise and just bringing down all of those sides with a hand plane until it fits nice and tidy when it comes to barbie bench only bronze will do all right time to tidy up my hole there's something i never thought i'd say on the internet keep your holes tidy everyone always keep your post trim and while we're on advice might advise the 30 of you who are not subscribed watching this to go ahead and hit that subscribe button it really helps channel out and i appreciate you also while you're down there share this with a friend if you would leave me a comment tell me what you think about this sweet 80s music and stay tuned for the sequence of this thing in action that took me way longer than it should have [Music] so well that's functional but i think it could look better let's do something about that a little cold bluing and scuff up the surface of the steel the water bath neutralizes the bluing solution and and the alcohol displaces the water so no resting occurs cold blue alright looks dope now let's see how it works [Music] [Music] so [Music] [Music] beautiful and as always i appreciate you watching don't already get subscribed i've got some really cool projects coming up that i am excited to share with you [Music] you
