name is Sarkis and I am gonna be showing you guys how to dismantle this rolex submariner it's a model number one six six one three it has a three one three five movement and this will apply to most rolex submariner or you know even they just have the same movement it's universal to a lot of watches as long as it's got the same 31:35 movement it'll apply to your watch as well this is the two-tone blue dial sub and we're gonna dismantle it in this video first thing i like to start off with doing is removing the bracelet and this has the holes in the lug where you could push in the spring bar and put some pressure pulling it outwards so that it stays in and then bring it over to the other side and do the same there you go you got one side of the bracelet open and we're gonna do the same over here and that's about it now we have separated the bracelet from the case we're gonna take this and put it in our hearts pin it's very nice to have one of these out just a you know tray or you could put all the parts so see what I'm gonna do here I'm gonna open this and that goes there I mean put that to the side this one is gonna be for the hands I'm gonna put the hands in here after we take it out and here's the case so the next step would be to open the back you see this one has an engraving we're gonna remove that in the process and to open the back you need a special key where the teeth over here are gonna hook up to the teeth right here and this key attaches to like a special vice that I have so I've already loosened it here I'm just gonna you know get it the rest of the way out that's it now I'll put this away alright guys sorry about that I'm back I put one of these extension tubes on the camera on the lens to give me a better zoom so we were right here first thing you want to do to get the movement out is unscrew these two screws over here that's gonna loosen it from the case or actually maybe before that we should take the stem out so let's unscrew the crown and you're gonna push this right here it's a set lever you're gonna push this and pull the stem out and then well screw these two guys in right here number one and number two these are like the movement case mounting attaching kind of screws to tighten the movement to the case and now that those have been screwed in right it's gonna allow us to move the movement you're gonna line this up here you see with that opening and on the other side it has lined up with its opening as well you can see if it was here it would be underneath so now that these are lined up like so I'm gonna take a case cushion put it on top like this flip it over right and now when I do this it's gonna come out now we're left with the movement weight dial in hands that need to come out now I'm gonna put the stem back in when you're putting the stem back in you do need to push the set lever to help it in it doesn't just pop back in place so what I'm gonna do is push here and then apply pressure onto the crown so like so there we go now it's in place next step is to remove the hands and there's a few ways to do that some people like to put a piece of plastic on top and then use these hand removers to remove the hands I found that that leaves a mark on the dial my preferred method is to take the hand removing presto tool which is this guy and hold each individual hand and pull each one off individually this way nothing touches the dial and nothing will put any marks on the dial either so I'm gonna go ahead and do that now this is gonna be the second next will be the minute home and finally this is the our hand that's it now we have the hands removed gonna put the hands in here for safekeeping these hands are you know real gold so they'll scratch very easily which is why I like to separate them and keep them somewhere safe to avoid scratching these hands all right next we are going to remove the dial to remove the dial there are two screws on the sides right here is school number one and on the opposite end right here is screw number two you don't have to remove them completely I just loosen them like so maybe one turn like that same thing on this side like so and what I'm doing is putting my tweezer in between the dial and the movement and I'm sorry my screwdriver not tweezer and I am twisting the screwdriver to pry away the dial from the movement and voila see separated to show you one thing real quick so you could see here and here are the two dial legs that attach to the back of the movement the screw tightens up against those two and that's what keeps the dial in place now that the dials out we're gonna put it away in our parts bin and keep it for safekeeping next step I'm gonna remove the calendar disc before I could pull it out there's this guy right here and this you do a half a turn to allow the calendar to come out when that's on top of the calendar it keeps it in place but what I just did is gonna allow me to pull it out before I try prying the calendar disc out of place I'm gonna push this right here back hold it there and then with another tweezer I am going to start to lift and try that again hold the dial there we go I'm looking at the screen and the watch at the same time it's a little confusing is the first time I'm doing something like this so give me some slack all right calendar disk safekeeping in the box put the case in here - okay look this guy over here now I could continue okay now before taking apart the calendar mechanism I'm gonna flip it over and remove or work on removing the automatic works first so OH I'm using a birch on 40 40 movement holder you could find that at most of your you know I'm sure you find on eBay for example or other online retailers first thing I want to do is remove the oscillating wait this guy right here and to do that there is a little clip here that you pull back that's gonna release this oscillating weight so I'm gonna do that like so and you just gotta wiggle it play with it a little bit to get it out like that that's it put this guy away now if you could tell there are a couple scratches here that are not supposed to be there the watch came to me in this fashion and it's also missing one of the screws that hold the automatic bridge in place we are we have ordered that screw and we'll be installing a new one there so usually you remove this screw and this screw to open the automatic bridge we're gonna go ahead and remove the one screw that we have and when getting this trying to take this out I like to spin the crown a little give it like a little half over wine and this helps release the gears and that way you don't really yank it out it just comes out smoothly like that nothing was you know holding on to it and that's the automatic works out of Oh taken off of the movement now here we have one two three screws we're gonna want to remove these three to get them out [Music] [Applause] now this is gonna separate we're gonna separate it with a screwdriver in between here I'm gonna give it a twist to try to lift them apart that's it this over here is called the driving wheel for ratchet wheel this guy and these two are your reverser wheels this guy not too sure what this is called this is what attaches to the oscillating weight axle you know that connects everything together and that's it now this is all taken apart one thing you could do to test these reverser wheels to see if that they are still good or bad or not you know is hold the gear take your tweezer and then hold the middle piece because these are two separate gears I'll separate them right now and spin you want to see that it spins in one direction and then when you spin it the other direction it holds it doesn't allow it to spin that means that it's still doing its job but this one's good and this one's good now let's put these parts away [Applause] okay now here is our movement once again I am gonna now flip it over and go back to the calendar side and dismantle that first before we dismantle the back hiding it onto the movement holder you want to make sure that you're not gonna damage anything you're not squeezing anything you're not supposed to squeeze and that you're far away from the balance wheel as possible now to remove this bridge there are four screws there's one two three and four and they're actually a blue colored screw so I'm gonna go ahead and remove all four of those to open the bridge to remove the bridge oh I think I just forgot something hold on before we continue that remember how we open up the dial leg screws after you take out the dial you're supposed to screw these back in so that when you're cleaning the watch is a cleaning machine these screws don't back out and fall out so you don't lose them there now that those screws are tight we could continue I'm gonna take out these four screws now this bridge will come out that's it we're gonna put this guy over here and start removing you see guys zoom in a little more hopefully that's a little better this right here is your our wheel we're gonna go ahead and take that out okay this one I believe is the intermediate date wheel or the yeah and then this one is the intermediate date wheel corrector I believe but these guys are now loose because we took that bridge out and we could take these out this one right here I'm not sure what it's called probably another intermediate you know it's a gear in between these two connects the hour and day indicator or the date gear take those out now I would like to remove the cannon pinion a couple ways you could remove the can opinion there's a special tool for it which I do not have when I went to AWC I the school they told me to use brass tweezers to just like grab it and pull it up straight up to remove it like that I kind of don't like that method I like to use my hand removing tool and you know I never had a problem it's usually really nice simple and C easy to get out a lot of problem just simple there it is now you got that was the kind of opinion we just took that out now I'm gonna open this guy up I believe it's called a day indicator no it's the date wheel right the wheel this is the wheel that you know when you've the date flips that's what does that is the wheel that does that job I'm not exactly the best with the names on all these gears I'm trying have a little paper that I'm following over here we're gonna remove this screw this is gonna open the top be careful as you notice over here I'm pushing pulling this spring back so that there's no tension here and I'm gonna remove this guy there's a little jewel on that that's what you have to be really careful of now it could remove the date jumper and release that spring I want to show you guys this guy see this here this is a little jewel and it's very important it's very delicate and easy to lose so you don't want to lose that guy be very careful and cautious we're gonna put it away but everything in our parts tray as far as the screw goes on that one I like to put this screw back this is kind of a special screw so I'm gonna put it back right here and I'm gonna gently tighten it not too tight you know just a little a little and that's about it just to keep that in place now I'm not going to take this apart yet we're gonna do the back side first and then come back to this and right now just to let you know the movement is dirty so I'm not wearing any finger cuts I wear the finger cuts when I'm assembling the movement right now it doesn't make a difference if you wear them or not because the movement has to be cleaned regardless we're into this assembly phase now before we remove the balance what you want to do first is remove any wound from the mainspring so this is the ratcheting click spring I believe and what I'm gonna do is wind the watch a little you see it moves when you do that and what I'm gonna do is push it outwards even more and this is gonna allow me to release the wine from the mainspring and if we wait you know minute or two this will completely stop moving there it is that tells you how dirty the movement is that it stops so fast because there's friction so we're gonna remove these two screws one two you're not going to touch this one the two outside screws and that's what's gonna remove the balance from the main plate by the way I'm doing this without a loop so I know not the most precise job but trying my best to get everything on camera as good as possible so what we're removing now this is called the balance wheel the balance the complete balance assembly you could call it covers the entire balance and I just like to grab it from the top just to get it loose then grab it from here wiggle it a little bit and it is out of place flip it over put it down be very careful and gentle you do not want to mess up the hair spring is really hard to fix okay back to the movement this is the fork and this is the pallet Fork bridge we are gonna be removing that now and of course you know you got to keep in mind you have to use the proper size screwdrivers for everything see these are all different size screwdrivers so it's good to have a nice set when you're working on watches it's very important you get the right size screwdriver to fit in the right size screw head it'll make your life easier you won't scratch anything you want more the screws which is something you're not supposed to do the whole point about watch making and repairing watches is you want it to be seamless you don't want anyone to know that you've been in there you've done anything you've done any kind of work you don't want to leave any scratches or any evidence behind this guy's stuck over here looks fine Hey okay guys so next we're gonna be opening up the winding break winding bridge there are two screws right here we are going to open those two to get this out now that we're going to remove this screw this is called the crown wheel and we're going to actually put the screw this screw I'm gonna put it back the reason being it's a special screw I don't want to mix it up with any of the other screws and keeps it safe as well okay this here is the the hack for the balance so when you pull out the stem you know the balance stops working this will move forward when you pull it out and touch the balance wheel and stop it from working so that the watch stops and you can set it to the exact seconds and we're gonna remove that like so next okay so now we are going to dismantle the core for the intermediate crown wheel which is this guy and this one is called the ratchet wheel this is what connects to the mainspring and allows the mainspring to white we're gonna open this one first this comes out it's three pieces one two and this one three I'm gonna put this screw back as well it's another one of those special screws that I don't want to mix up now we're gonna open this guy up like so the ratchet wheel is out I just want to make a know right now we're dismantling the movement it is a dirty movement so touching it with your fingers isn't gonna kill anything it's not gonna hurt anything when you're reassembling the movement that's when you have to be wearing the finger cots on your fingers and you don't want to touch anything you want to be as clean as possible when you're assembling now we're gonna take apart the transmission over here oh there's three screws for that one two three so we're gonna remove those three screws [Applause] [Applause] there you have it now the transmission is open okay just to let you know this here is the escape wheel sorry about that this one over here is the third wheel this is the second wheel and this over here is the great wheel gonna take those out put them away keep him safe now let's open up these two screws this is gonna open the balance bridge no this is the mainspring [Music] the balance the barrel this is the barrel bridge there we go here we have the barrel complete and it's closed assembled form let's put away these guys right here and I'll show you how to open that some watchmakers they'll take their fingers with their Nathan your nails and they'll push down right here and to pop open the brook the barrel but I've aw see I what they taught us is to take like an air compressor or an air can and you put it right here and with a little pressure it's gonna pop open so I'm gonna there it is and at the school date what they taught us is that when you use your fingers and push down on it really hard you run the risk of messing up the end shake of the overall the barrel using the air compressor to trick it puts less pressure less force so that you don't bend anything and you see right there you know I carefully opened it so that this spring doesn't jump out you want to be cautious when opening that guy to get this up this is the barrel Arbor and I have a special barrel Arbor or a tool for that it's a bridge on 100 and it's pretty simple way to get it out this tightens up you see hopefully you could see and you just twist it that's it [Music] and then to take out the mainspring you're gonna want to do is hold it with one hand and a dark huh that's a little better I'm gonna grab the mainspring and hold the rest of it in place so that it doesn't jump out on me I'm just like so like that and then what you're gonna do is with your fingers go one side and the other like that this is gonna allow you to get the mainspring out you're gonna do it the rest of the way away from the watch and the parts on the table so that I don't knock anything out of out of the way there when you get all the way out to the end you want to slow down be careful make sure to slide it out gently so you do not scratch the inner walls of the barrel see there's the mainspring and now we have the emptied out barrel might have some shards like that just clean it off we got to clean everything anyway right now that's the removal of the mainspring yeah continue over here we had removed a cannon pinion already okay the next thing we're gonna get out is called the minute pinion this is the minute pinion bridge there's two screws we are going to remove those two screws to get it out and there's human opinion out next we're gonna flip it over back to the dial or a calendar side however you want to call it okay now we're gonna open take out these two screws to get this bridge out this is covering the minute wheel and to setting pinions underneath this is the minute wheel and these are the setting pinions Oh that'll be careful we left one of the pinions right here that's why you always got to check the backsides let me get the phone okay now we're gonna take apart the rest of this this is basically the keyless works we're gonna remove this screw that comes out like so and then wanted careful with this brain while I remove this screw here next I'm working without a loop so excuse me if I'm being a little sloppy here it's hard to do this and film at the same time so that that screw out this guy what else do we have this guy 1 & 2 and then now you could remove the stem crown wheel and sliding pinion these guys are out and that's funny now you're left with the bear movement no more parts there more parts here yeah bring this closer for you to see yes I could just put this guy like that on top just to show you there's the dial the calendar this the balanced rotor automatic gears main plate they jumper our wheel transmission fork arrow keyless works right there you have the hands the bracelet the case that's about it that's how you dismantle a rolex submariner with a three one three five movement sorry if it was a little sloppy I did my best being the first time on camera recording my first youtube video with a you know mechanical kind of watch and hope you guys liked it drop me a like if you found this video useful informational maybe in the future I'll do assembly videos I'm just starting out with this dismantling disassembly kind of video so let me know if you guys have any comments please leave them below I'll try to answer them and I appreciate any criticism
