Clearly this all a bit. Howard set him up facing away to make it look like Robin is doing his own thing but immediately tells him to turn around. "Pissing off the director" is the actual bit.
Edit: So apparently some people are assuming that somewhere in my comment here I said Robin Williams did not improvise. My comment simply addressed the "pissing off the director" part. That is part of the scene and scripted. Robin Williams' lines however are all improv. This includes the lines written on the cards assuming of course there are even cards.
That Jack Nicholson is on point.
"Hello, Suicide Prevention will you please hold." ouch
Robin Williams spoke Russian?
You know, amnesia is a
The reason he's acting so crazy is because he's shooting a commercial for Howard Storm, who was the director for Mork and Mindy. Robin worked with him for 3 years and he was just playing around with Howard. Check out the M&M blooper reel, you can see how crazy things got on the set for that show. There are scenes where this director (Howard) would run into the scene to point out lines on the script etc. So he was just messing with the director because he knew he had a sense of humor. I doubt Howard was getting mad....he seemed very amused by Robin's antics.
I'm surprised nobody mentioned cocaine yet.
I just spent the last hour watching random Robin Williams clips on youtube, god damn it I haven't laughed so hard in my life, I'm probably going to have to dig out all of Robin's old movies and watch them all again, man this is one of the men you forget how brilliant he was, subtle at times but not afraid to go way out there and still make the joke.
I fucking miss this guy.
