Rikers Correction Officer | A Day in the Life

I'll say a prayer to myself know I out ask God you know to to protect me you know from all harm and danger while I'm in there I work in cpsu which is uh the Bing we deal with probably the most problematic most assaultive you know inmates I worry about my safety all the time all the time in here all right good morning St good morning sir thank you very much let's have a safe tour let's have a good tour let's look out for one another thank you chemical agents OC um consist of I think extremely hot peppers and and in waterbased liquid it's it's water it's it's natural but it it burns it'll make them stop fighting when you need to spray so that's what we use it for as you walk you know it's like I speak to everybody that that's in here cuz you know you never you never know what somebody might be going through outside in they day you know just a quick hey how you doing you okay It Go long way let's good bro you all right all right you got brief that two officers were assaulted last night you know the names of officers that were assaulted if you need me for anything you know just call me all right no problem it's a job you can't you can try to script your day as much as you want try to you know think of everything that you're going to encounter but realistically Anything Can Happen the aggression that these guys have they locked inside C you know I've learned to you know how how to address it you know and how to deal with that this area is holds a maximum of 50 50 inmates you walk in you have to address the issues of 50 grown men we get the a door how you do change I'm just going to take a tour just to make sure you know everybody's alive everybody's breathing make sure they're okay if you sit still and you watch the cell you see the chest rising up and down you can tell all right cool he's alive he's sleeping he's breathing stuff like that so that's what I'm going to check right now good morning how you doing it takes a special person to do this job pretty good [Music] I got your juice right [Music] here don't go no farther than that come back move Mo move what is it that I'm smelling all kinds of smells in here right now at the moment this is what we have to deal with in here with it like that everybody has an opinion you know about what goes on and stuff in here but n times out of 10 anybody that has anything negative to say about a correction officer they never even been in the facility never been inside of a jail I'm supposed to feed a guy that's throwing stuff out of his slot out of itself at me I'm supposed to feed him you know but got to still remain professional and and do a job but you know just regular day at the office so
