Clear it out. I'm gonna snatch
this [bleep] up. I already got approval
to lock all these [bleep] doors down if we don't
clear this [bleep] hallway. Clear it out. You'll be able to see it on TV. You know the rules.
Dude. Clear the hallway. Talk to us like-- Clear the [bleep] hallway. I ask you nicely twice. After that, I'm
gonna raise my voice. [interposing voices] So get the
[bleep] out of here. [bleep] you. You ain't hard, [bleep]. Don't bow up. He's just upset because I
called him out, yelled at him. Probably embarrassed him
in front of his peers, but this is prison. There's rules that
need to be followed. I've talked to
you several times. [bleep] I've talked to you
a couple times. - Don't talk to me like that.
- I'm talking to you. Chill out. He's in my face,
disrespecting me. I show you guys nothing but
the utmost [bleep] respect. You guys never had
a problem with me. And when he's he's
trying to talk to me like I'm a [bleep] child-- When I gotta tell you over-- I'm not talking to
you like that at all. Call the county and see
what the [bleep] I'm about. They'll tell you. You know what I'm saying? [bleep] Lear's clear it out. What? [bleep] you, come on out here. People-- You want respect,
give us respect. You're a-- I talk to people-- I'm waiting for
you to finish up. Finish up. I don't know if he's
just doing this for fun or trying to make
a career out of it. If he's trying to make a
career out of it, it's-- it's going down the
drain immediately. We have a sign on
his door saying do not give this inmate the phone. Someone still gave
him the phone. You know you're not
supposed to use the phone at all till July right now? Yeah. Right now. So my question is how
are you still using it? Who's giving you the phone? Inmate from 102 throws
out her laundry bag. The guy just comes, picks it up. Goes back, and hands
it over to 101. The phone's in
there, wrapped up. This is exactly what happened,
K. We're picking up trays, 102 tells me, I've had this
laundry bag for two days and I don't know whose it is. And I grab the laundry
bag, I look at it, and it says, Charlie 101 on
the laundry bag in a Sharpie. I said, Hopkins, what's up
with your laundry bag, dude? He goes, I haven't
had it in two days. And that's when I gave
him the laundry bag. But there was no phone
in there, I promise. The way the bag falls out
right here-- it, like, bounces. Watch. It's like there's something
heavier, or harder in there, other than laundry. It just shows
right now that just-- whatever you get, if you're
giving it to another inmate, just look through it
and see what's in there. Because they could easily
hide drugs in there weapons-- anything, and pass them
over to their neighbors. These guys know how
to play con games, and they know how to
get stuff, you know? One of my most favorite
things about this job is doing the shakedowns
and finding stuff. It lets me let the inmates know,
like, hey, I'm watching you. I'm on my toes. You can hide stuff wherever. I'm going to find it. I know there's no such
thing as a perfect officer. You know, I want to
be pretty damn close. OFFICER (ON RADIO): We haven't-- OK. Good. Clear. NARRATOR: STIU is the
investigation's unit within the Department of Corrections. Hey. I feel like it
made me look like I didn't know how to do my job. Here we go check
this room, and then someone goes in there 10 seconds
later and finds something. Yeah. I ain't seen nothing
in there, [bleep] dog. S&M members, they're
very dangerous. If I'm making
mistakes like this, it could ultimately get
myself or someone else killed. What color does it turn? It looks a little bit
blue on the side there. OK. We'll take it outside. We'll take it outside with us. So he's positive right
here on the pink one. Trying to find out
what kind of substance it is, but so far he's positive. Shows it clearly. That's what the pink means? Could tell that
it was positive before you even walked-- You know, even if
they showed me two lines and said the pink
line was right there, that means that the lines
show up, then it's negative. And the line was there, man. 10, 15 men, they come back-- The thing about it is if you-- You saw that it was
positive before you even walked out of the bathroom. Even if she
showed me red, or-- Totally understandable. What you do is when this officer
writes you up, what you can do is you state that on the appeal. That you wasn't there
when the test was red. You think the officers
put something there, and then that's the way
it goes, on the appeal. Because that's your right. It's hard to have an
inmate in your custody that's sitting there and
telling you to do your job. It's embarrassing
for the officer, and it's frustrating, as well. And if an inmate calls
you out on something, learn from that mistake. And don't make the
same mistake twice. You can sit down right there. I'm doing the assessment here. I'm gonna determine how good you
are to come out in public here. All right. You understand that
you're gonna be coming out in this population with
people who are in active gangs still?
- All right. Do you feel good about that? Do you have an issue with that? What I'm more concerned about
is where you're going to be, and where your head's at if they
put another Sure o in the pot. Do you have an issue with
active gang members as it is? Then you have a [bleep] issue. You planning on
assaulting anyone? You planning on
assaulting anyone? Come on. I'm gonna roll his cap back? Why would you say something
so [bleep] stupid? Wait-- It's like this-- If I could smack you with
this book, I would do it. Sarge, this
[bleep] [inaudible] is acting aggressive. You're killing
me, [inaudible].. I haven't been able to do my
job at all today because of you. I was just looking out
for your safety, bro. [inaudible],, he wants to go
out there and get the bad guy. But as far as STIU's concerned,
the super cop mentality, it could be a hindrance. To be part of this
group, you have to be able to use your head. You have to have a certain
demeanor that keeps you calm. That's a growing
experience for him. This situation, all my rovers
on the compound responded. Andrew Martinez was the
last one to show up. Everything isn't going
the way I expected it. I just expected this to be
inside a unit, you know, just watching the
inmates coming in and out of their cells all day. They call response,
get off your ass and go. That could've gone real bad. It is a prison, you
know what I'm saying? These guys aren't here for
singing too loud in a choir. And if you're not
comfortable, then honestly, you shouldn't be here. That's for damn sure. 10-4. Hold on. You guys were-- You serious? Take your shoe off. Take your shoe off. Take your shoe off. Found a pen! Something wrong? He just likes
to run his mouth. I want to prove
myself, just in case something does hit
the fan, and people know they can count on me. But I shook it down, and
I didn't find anything. [applause] Thank you. I'm like, ugh. I want to catch these
guys, like, right now. So-- yeah. He didn't have anything. He did have it. Really? Aw, man!
