This is my favorite song off the album for many reasons:
The opening riff with both guitars harmonizing. It's actually my current ringtone.
The main riff, especially when it goes into F# right after "now it's time to die". It's so fucking heavy and I love it.
The Mustaine riff that sort of cuts into the song. It hits like a train.
The scream after "I don't want to die". It's surprising that Lars didn't have a metal vocalist career if he could scream like that.
The. god. damned. solo. AAAAAAAAAAA I LOVE THIS SOLO ITS SO RAW AND AMAZINGGGGGGGGGGG (ahem) I like it because for the majority of it it has harmonizing, meaning Kirk had to record the entire thing multiple times to make it. Also the part at 4:11 when it goes into C major, an extremely rare key for them to use in their songs.
"WAKENED BY HORRID SCREAMS, FREE FROM THIS FRIGHTENING DREAMMMMM"
Tl;dr I love this song, it's very musically intricate and definitely showed some significant progress in their music writing skills, especially if you compare it to Kill 'em All. 10/10 this song is great.
I love this song a lot, great intro. The verse riff is awesome and the lyrics are sick. Definitely a favorite of mine.
The most fun Metallica solo to play!
I havenโt listened to this song in forever, as I feel like Iโve already got all the enjoyment I can out of it. However, I wonโt say that itโs not a great song!
One of the coolest things about this song is that it starts RIGHT after the weird end noises in FFWF, and it blends together perfectly. The harmonies in the opening are great, and I love the โdoomโ feeling of the intro in general.
The fast riff which starts after the second chorus is simply iconic. Itโs a great contrast to the fairly slow riffs before it.
The soloโs pretty good. I love the tapping in its beginning. I find the faster part a bit boring, though.
My main memory involving this song is of 7th grade. I listened to this song a lot then, and I remember singing the โwait for the signโ lyric, and my teacher looked at me like I was crazy. Jokeโs on her! I am crazy.
Pretty good/10.
Not my favorite, but still pretty good!
