What can I say? This song is all-around awesome. Lyrics are awesome and Cliffβs bass is palpable. Classic song.
Always love when they play it live and the house lights go out after James screams "IT'S THE LAST TIME YOU WILL-Will-will..."
I was having a discussion with my girlfriend after our metallica concert about the popular song for kids named in many languages "Brother Jack", she was telling me there is a version in many languages, and i was surprised, i only knew the version in french(we did french in middle school and high school, we are romanians) and she puts on a straight face and says to me: "Yeah, yeah, tis song is some kind of "For Whom The Bell Tolls" old version ".
This song is amazing. When Metallica sung it live in Manchester, I lost my shit
This was my first Metallica song I heard and it's my favorite because of this. I remember watching the Day on the Green version as a kid and Cliff's bass solo blew me away.
For whom the bell tolllllllls, time marches on-on-on-on
I like this one a lot. It's not my all time favorite but it's up there, and it still kicks a lot of ass! Especially the guitar kicking in from the bass riff at 0:57, it's SO SO HEAVY and I love it. And James's vocals are great as well, the way he says "eyes" at 3:37 gives me chills every time. One of their best tracks for sure, 9.5/10
My brother was learning about the poem in British literature when his teacher looked up any songs that had to do with it, of course they found this song and his teacher played in class without really knowing what it was. It was awesome, especially since this was a strict Christian school. As for me though I've been singing this song since I was real little and I love it, it's a complete classic and it doesn't even have/need a solo
10/10
