Reviewing The WORST D&D Advice On YouTube

so I asked for your spiciest most unconventional d d advice and hot takes and how bad could it be y'all can't be that wrong right let's take a look the monk is the best class oh God this is gonna be bad so I'm gonna assign each take a rating spicy or milky then you get a rating of golden or trash okay you like monks that's cool me too but sadly it has been shown that monks are a long way from the best class they're not the most versatile powerful or creative sadly this take is spicy trash hot take polar master and Sentinel isn't overpowered you're just bad at designing encounters I mean I kind of agree but have you tried not being a dick about it yeah this was very confrontational but you're probably right polon Master Plus Sentinel is a famous combo that's pretty good but there are dozens of ways DMS can make challenging and fun encounters even if players do this I think that player to player combat should be encouraged you mean player characters right right also sadly no d d is not designed for player versus player combat there are other systems which are much better for that and a lot of the DND player abilities are very unfun if used on other players this is a spicy trash take if you want to fight get naked cover yourself in oil and wrestle in the ball pit of your local McDonald's like men other men do that right gatekeeping is necessary for a healthy Community gatekeeping chases out people who enter a community and attempt to change it to fit their wants it makes new players uncomfortable sure but after a while of getting to know why people like something for what it is it makes sense why people see Outsiders there's a danger oh my God what a bunch of words that a human being wrote down okay so respectfully I hate this philosophy and it makes no sense you're talking about d d like it's something you have a personal claim to like you have a right to chase people away from but you don't whether someone is New or Old School they have the same right to play the game as you and play however they like this person says it makes sense why people see Outsiders as a danger but Outsiders aren't a danger to D why the [ __ ] would you care what other people are doing at their table it has nothing to do with your game if new people come in that's only good for D and D dies the second they don't get new customers this is basically saying new people bring new ideas to the game and I find that threatening which is the most stereotypical evil Boomer toxic [ __ ] ever but I'm having a go at this take not the person who wrote it whoever you are please don't unsubscribe very funny yeah them are awful but most memes are off like 99 of the internet is pure trash there are some good d d memes but yeah mostly I agree that they're awful this is uh milky gold the dungeon master gets to kill players whenever they feel like it you mean player characters right right for real I I hope this is a joke but there are some DMS who seem to believe this they act like the DM role is just a license to do whatever the hell they want this is obviously [ __ ] run from any game where the DM says they'll do this they're not interested in respecting your autonomy so there's literally no point in play humans elves dwarves and halflings are all the races the game needs I'll tolerate some half Works half elves Dragonborn and a maybe tieflings but we've gone way out into the weeds with all of these jabroni monster people look I'll agree with this when all of the mentioned races grow claws for hands and walk sideways all this coming from a guy with a turtle profile picture honestly I've never got the objection some DMS have with the weird races you want to play as a sentient ball of fluff [ __ ] yeah sounds awesome don't over restrict player options for no reason let your players design themselves however they want it's kind of the point of the game this is spicy trash I played a rogue who stole a hayward's handy spice pouch unfortunately it was slightly cursed so it only ever produced habanero powder definitely the spiciest hot thing I ever took in DND oh I get it I asked for spicy hot takes and you made me look like a fool well Jason video Carousel is a badly constructed badly written awful mess of a mechanic that absolutely ruins the game the fact that it has not been Narada to have rules expanded on or properly explained is a stain on Wizards of the Coast that can never be removed okay you wrote this so dramatically but yeah kind of counter spell is a massive feels bad if it's used against players but as a player tool to use against DMs I think it can be pretty dramatic I kind of like my players having it it leads to fun moments when they try and counter a big high level spell but I'd be open to seeing it improved this is like a medium take Monk's not wearing armor just makes me think of them wearing only boxers wow when I said hot take I didn't mean sexy as [ __ ] when a player asked if they wanted to play a boxer themed monk I didn't know that was what he meant you know what I'm saying Wizards of the Coast constant strengthening of classes and builds so the point of making PC deaths so rare takes away from both thematic and gameplay highs loss and death really adds to a more engaging experience okay so when a party goes against a balanced challenge although the main Design Concepts okay okay he stopped well to be fair he was making a great Point yes death and loss can be cool but that's not really anything to do with your opening argument the DM and players decide together The lethality of the game your subclass kind of has nothing to do with it whether you're a champion fighter or a hex blade Paladin the game can be built around you really very easily to get the required lethality you're looking for you want to find a middle ground of difficulty that suits the game you all want to play and your subclass choices really won't impact that this is spicy trash let me [ __ ] the dragon I have the Charisma yeah I mean I mean this is obviously a joke comment right but yeah if a player builds their entire character around doing one thing the DM should let them do it caution though I don't really do sexual encounters in my games maybe as a joke sure but make sure that everyone around the table is comfortable with the joke generally though this is a good point but it's not really that controversial golden milky elves being the beings with the longest lifespan while having the most amount of sub races based on their environment is dumb wow you blew my mind and you are 100 right golden spice elves would have the least amount of genetic diversity and therefore be the most homogenized race races should have ability score increases an orc is inherently going to be stronger than a gnome this doesn't mean you can't be a known Barbarian though much like life some people start at a disadvantage and they need to work harder to reach the same level or surpass others but it is possible and frankly that's kind of inspiring come on this is like the milkiest take ever everyone agrees with this except me because spoiler alert Orcs are stronger than every other race even without the Asis they can lift carry and drag two times the amount of other races so there you go Orcs are stronger than gnomes it's literally built into their race I like ASI's tied to your background it just gives players more options in character building and game this take his milky trash but I acknowledge it's probably going to be the one most people disagree with me on seriously though it is better this way game balance is unnecessary who cares if Wizards are more powerful than Fighters it's not player versus player so not all player options need to be equal I mean Dr Manhattan is more powerful than roshak but which one would be more fun to play oh oh but it's also the case that it's easier to have fun when you're kicking ass and if one build can kick ass way better than another some players can end up feeling frustrated or like they never get their moment in the spotlight you're implying that Manhattan would be less fun to play with than raw shark and in social situations sure but in the Vietnam War part of the story if you were looking to kick off some steam I reckon most people would rather play Manhattan d d is usually better if all the members of the party are roughly the same power level in my opinion so I'm giving this one spicy trash but I do understand where you're coming from Vlad doesn't automatically mean interesting if your eight intelligence Wizards only defining Trey is that he's dumb you didn't make an interesting character you made a dead weight John Davis that's the most American [ __ ] name I've ever heard yeah I think most people have come to this conclusion sucking at the game is not fun or interesting if you want to play a dumb wizard just role play it as dumb but you probably still want to have a high into intelligence score just so your character can function this take is milky but it is correct a lot of the content creation for DND especially on YouTube is about making the most OP or the best early game combo which I think has led to making ttrpgs seem like a video game of PCS versus DM okay so first start this is like the milkiest take ever Reddit loves to accuse YouTube of doing this but I also think that they're wrong I watch an enormous amount of d d YouTube and I really don't agree with this take it's a really healthy supportive and welcoming space that encourages collaboration and good gameplay it's actually insane how good the YouTube DND and Tick Tock communities are I genuinely can't think of any channel of any reasonable size that is promoting DM versus player ideas outside of like really obvious jokes unlike Facebook and Reddit by the way which have a lot more toxic player versus DM [ __ ] on them so this take is milky trash but I'm glad you brought it up because it's important to talk about the cultural impact YouTube has on the game especially as it grows but I believe that impact is very positive the more streamed Games should show their session zeros be it before or after a campaign so many d d content creators lightly go over session zero and it can leave new DMS clueless and have to piece together abstract Clues on running one really cool idea but this is a spicy trash take session zeros are very important and it would be nice to show them but they're also really personal if someone says I'm not comfortable with X because of this reason they probably don't want that broadcast online I agree there should be more resources on session zeros but they shouldn't be literal live streams a good session zero should be a safe space where everyone can talk honestly for that for PCs isn't nearly as overpowered as many people claim the advantage it provides can easily be overcome with enemies change in their tactics and clever use terrain but unfortunately dams just don't use any tactics for the ampcs Beyond run up and hit it or stand still and shoot yeah 100 flights is strong but there are stronger abilities out there I agree I think most people agree it's just that some people disagree very loudly this is a golden milky take dmpcs are not inherently a bad thing besides providing another character to have fun and interact with in helping areas the DM is a player too and sometimes they just want to play a character like the players do I gotta disagree on this one dude if someone tries to play as both a DM and a player it just falls apart really fast DMS are players too yes but it is a different type of player if a DM Wants to Be a Player they should find a game where they can be an actual player if you can't find a game to play in if you're like stuck as a forever DM just hop into my Discord I'll link it in the description there's a room there for finding other players who want to play the game do not try and scratch that itch by forcing yourself in into the party as another player while also controlling all the monsters and doing all the DM stuff it's just it's just tedious and boring for everyone else get your player time in as an actual player it's way more fun the classic horny Bard and other horny character archetypes that are commonly seen as a normal part of the game are actually awful it's unfun uncomfortable and often creepy to play with someone who wants to role play aggressively flirting and trying to hook up with characters yeah if someone's being a creepy weirdo then that's [ __ ] weird I've never actually experienced this though my games tend to be pretty sexless because I write to what I know boom roasted but if someone is being creepy or misogynistic or hateful to any group of people yeah obviously that's [ __ ] up I don't know if the horny barge stereotype is actually inherently awful though I think it is meant to be a joke if someone's memeing as a horny bad they probably just think that's funny and and don't realize that it's making you uncomfortable so communicate with one another and say to them bro this is not Landing if they're doing it seriously or they don't stop after you ask them to then yeah it's time for that player to leave you deserve to feel happy and safe while playing the game and I hope saying that you deserve those things is not a spicy take
