[Music] okay so this is my review of the retroid pocket 4 Pro first off I'm just going to give my personal take and how I actually feel about the device and then I'm going to go through my objective scorecard giving it a overall score on a scale of 0 to 100 personally I love this thing it is very close to being what I would consider a near perfect device it's small enough that I can fit it in most of my pants pockets it's got a long enough battery to do do the needful it's got a screen that kind of walks that line between being large so you have a good display but then also small so it's very portable and it plays most of the games that I would want to play on it barring things like Nintendo switch which on a device this small is going to be pretty hard to to get something with the right power that also gets a good battery but anyway overall really love this device but that being said let's go through the the scorecard and see how it plays out okay so for any of you that watched my am bernick RG 28xx that's it and the Miu a30 comparison I've slightly changed the way we I'm going to use that uh grading scale same categories but it's just 20 individual categories instead of categories and subcategories so the first one and probably one of the biggest most important questions for these devices is compatibility right what games can it play now I use a Beacon emulator on this uh this will play most PS2 games not all but most like it will really struggle with Jack 3 and Jack 2 just straight up not going to be that great so that gets us a 15 out of 20 potential points in compatibility okay next up is battery life and I measure that by half brightness or medium brightness for the device and whatever the highest system it can play all of the games of so in my testing that was about GameCube it can pretty much play all the GameCube games and not have any significant issues the battery life while doing that was really good 6 to 7 hours or in this case an 8 out of 10 next up rating size right and this this makes a big difference or if you have something like the Miu mini here you're going to get like a 10 out of 10 on size this will fit pretty much anywhere in any pocket this guy here we're going to give us seven out of 10 this could squeeze into a smaller pocket um it's hard to tell in the video here but this is smaller than a Nintendo switch light it is it is very small and then we have charger whether or not the charger is universal this is huge for me um pretty much can I plug in my random charger that I use from anchor I believe this is a 65 wat anchor charger and get it to charge it's got a USB type oh bottom it's got a USBC on the other end of it and uh yes this will charge with any charger also I need to change my settings so you can't play it upside down although oh it gets the five yes well done turn that brightness down to medium there next is software stability um and I had a pretty good experience with the software on this but every now and then it would just crash certain games um and I don't know if that's Retro's fault I don't know if that's the the fault of the emulators on it but either way the overall software experience was mostly good um so I'm giving it an eight very nice very nice after that two is the software look and feel um I'm going to give this a four for enjoyable uh a five would be intuitive just straight up super easy to use and uh most of these emulators do not get a five it's just it's really hard to justify that now again it being Android you can kind of get the software as customized as you want to um and you can put certain emulators on it that are fairly intuitive but just even aspects of that were a little bit less than what I'd call intuitive so yeah it gets a four whatever it's pretty good next category is sleep quick resume um and this gets a five out of five potential points um this means that I would always leave it asleep even when I'm not playing it for like a few days at a time uh because it's Android fun funs like a smartphone it's just meant to be off then on again I love that aspect of it a lot of these more Linux based devices you could sleep it for a little bit but you really don't want to have it sleeping constantly or all the time uh did not have that issue with the retroid and again you're probably going to get that experience for most Android based devices next up is display size now this is one that some of these devices just can't do anything about but a bigger display does make for a better viewing experience uh this display was 4.7 in so they're going to get a three and it's just that's just the size of the display nothing to change there for display Tech it's using LCD and display resolution it is an HD display it's like 720p or above um I put that all in there now with display size you'll notice seven or above inches you get all of the all of the points for display size um so and in my opinion a 7in display with a 720p resolution is great it's not I don't see any issues with that you do get one point for being OLED if you are um also display refresh this is a 60 HZ display anything over 60 HZ like 90 HZ or 120 htz that would get you a 90 but uh this doesn't have that and that's just fine I mean it's not bad it's just fine I don't know of any displays that are below 60 HZ but you never know and then we're talking about docking so when you dock the pocket 4 Pro um you get a full 1080p out so dock resolution is awesome this thankfully will dock with its type- C port so I actually use a skull and Co jump gate um this is phenomenal this was only 20 bucks I mean shipping wasn't the fastest but this docks in here just like a switch and uh this just sits on my TV and then it will charge it's phenomenal I highly recommend getting one of these if you're looking to dock this at all um type-c docking is awesome too it docks a 1080p60 um really good I I highly highly recommend getting this $20 dock for it and then dock scaling um some of these devices will they'll dock but it's just like a straight up takes what's on the screen and puts it up there um this does a really good job of scaling whatever game you're playing to play on the screen very well um because this is a 169 screen it docks to your to your TV very well other devices um for example the RG 28xx this does not scale very well on your screen this will stretch your 43 screen out to a 169 and then it has all kinds of weird glitches so I just like to put that as a category um does a very good job scaling and just blowing it up well so pretty much it gets all of the docking points um and the reason oh yeah also the last one sorry um Can it support a Bluetooth controller while docking yes but shitty or yes this is yes it supports Bluetooth I use a 8bit do pro ultimate ultimate Pro whatever the the the best 8 bitd Bluetooth controller you can and it works phenomenally so yeah out of 10 points for docking related things this gets all of them for a contrast right the RG 28xx this will dock but it's just a bad experience I think it's got like three points total right out of all the 10 docking related points so just a good example all right now the buttons I thought the buttons on this were phenomenal they're really they're just a good feel they're not too loud they're well spaced they feel really good oh hi what's up um yeah buttons 10 out of 10 or in this case two out of two next up is the triggers these have full full analog triggers and these are really nice phenomenal triggers I mean the shoulder buttons are also great but these triggers just excellent two out of two and then the next one is joysticks now these are hall effect joysticks and they're uh they're kind of like the size of switch joysticks but just a lot better um I really like these joysticks these are phenomenal and honestly they've done a lot of good stuff here too I don't know if you noticed but the joystick is in towards the screen a little bit more where it could be directly below this d-pad that'd be a little less comfortable they've moved it in and that is a great decision right it's pretty much as close to that screen as it can be um that more people need to do that and honestly if they punched in here to the Border close to the screen and got it even closer it's just that would even be better so uh yes any of the bottom thing you know you have your primary buttons here if your joys down here move it in if your joysticks up here and your d-pads down here move it in it just it's better A lot of the bigger systems do that and that makes it so that your thumb isn't in a much more natural resting spot versus this crammed down awkward spot so I liked it I play through all of Majora's Mask and Ocarina of Time with these joysticks three out of three next is the grip and heat now this has active Cooling in the back here um the grip with where the triggers are it's nice and rounded on the corners um super comfortable to hold very comfy like this is phenomenal and the joysticks being moved in I'm giving this all of the grip points that it can have just cuz for this size I don't think you could do any better it's very ergonomic it doesn't get hot in your hands well done all right and then the last the last one here value this is a little bit it's probably most subjective one I don't know how to I mean you try to make an objective review right but um on the value scale a five out of five is buy it even if you don't need it um which I haven't given anything a five out of five yet um zero would be I would never ever recommend anybody buy this right and then a three is a competitive offer um a four is a really really good score to get a four value you pretty much have to be the best at what you do um and this is a very very good thing but it's hard to say that this is a four but I am giving it three this is a competitive offer it's definitely worth your considering ation right um it depends on what you're looking to game with specifically now to give you an example of a four we have the rg28 xxh here the reason this gets a four is not because this can do anything the retroid can do in fact it can do less right this can't even play all of your Nintendo 64 games necessarily however I bought this for like $50 right the retroid pocket 4 Pro this was $200 and a long ship time you can get this one for like $90 with a short ship time or if you're willing to wait for a longer ship time after shipping close to $70 which makes this an insane deal right this offers very many of the same benefits of the retroid pocket 4 Pro but at a very very low price point now pretty much everything about this is worse than this but again that super low entry price point makes this like a four value where um I would recommend this above everything else in its in its weight class any who three is is a very fair value and it's it's what this gets any who yes it's a three so that being said we get a total score of 81 right for the retroid pocket 4 Pro in 81 is a phenomenal score anything over 70 is a good product um anything over 80 is like damn right now for reference the highest score that I've given anything and I haven't made a video on all these but the highest scoring item is the steam deck OLED that gets an 86 um nothing comes even close to that the normal steam deck is an 82 and the retroid pocket 4 Pro is an 81 right so this is right right on the heels of the steam deck as far as being a good retro handheld now the steam deck of course does way more than just retro handheld gaming so it's not a Apples to Apples comparison and steam NE do costs more but steam deck and retroid pocket 4 Pro as far as Retro Gaming devices they are competitive so just keep that in mind right um I will do a steam deck OLED steam deck and some of these other ones break down at at some point but anyway yes retroid pocket 4 Pro gets an 81 well done 81 out of 100 now that's a really good score um remember that 100 impossible to get right you'd have to have a large display but also be very very tiny doesn't it doesn't make any sense in today's technology so an 81 means this is a great product right for $200 I highly highly recommend this um yeah phenomenal product I would I would pick this over anything else I own currently for most of my handheld gaming yeah but anyway let me know what you thought of the video below um you know do you agree with my point score for this I don't know anywh who uh thanks for watching and I'll you know see see me in the next I'll see you in the next one no no I won't I can't see you I see a camera you can see me in the next one what
