[Music] okay so recently I went on a trip and I took a Nintendo switch light with me because it fit in my pocket and it made me miss a couple things about my switch OLED so I decided to do just a direct comparison Nintendo switch light versus Nintendo switch OLED now look I've said it before if you have a specific use case like you're only going to be using something on the go or only at home then one of these or the normal switch might be just the right one for you based on the nature of what you're doing for example if you're only going to ever play your switch at home on your TV you don't foresee yourself ever traveling there's not really a reason to get the OLED right just get the normal switch the light won't work for you you're done if at any other use case if you're going to be playing Beyond just your TV portably then here's where you're going to do this now first we're only going to be talking about portably right if you have a use case to play on your TV you can't do it with the light so just forget about that we're only talking about on the go so on the go what's better first thing to compare the screen right the OLED has a much bigger display a 7 in I think 7 in keep me honest versus the switch lights 5.5 in display now an inch and a half what difference does that make huge huge as far as screen size goes it makes a a big big difference now the OLED also manages to push that screen kind of closer to the edges so you get a bigger screen but not a proportionately larger console still a much larger console like you can see here that there's a big size difference spoiler alert if you couldn't tell I uh I've initialized this one this s OLED is in general a bigger better brighter display it's also an OLED screen which for some games really doesn't make a difference however there are some games like Metroid dread that came out pretty much alongside the switch OLED that look a lot better on an OLED display so that depends on what game you're going to play side note all you got to play is tears of the Kingdom it's the best game ever made I don't know why I'm pretending to whisper to a camera when I'm in a house all alone second thing the oled's going to have is a much better battery life the switch light claims 3 to 7 hours when you're playing tear of the Kingdom it's probably closer to like 3 and a half to 4 hours depending on the brightness setting you're using versus 4 and 1 half to 9 hours now doesn't sound like a big difference but it's like a 50% increase in battery life on the switch and this is something that from having used both of them you do notice the difference it's it's it's noteworthy it's worth noting that's what that means so again you got the bigger form factor but you are getting a decently longer battery out of this and you will notice it so if you're going on like a long trip or for some reason you're not going to be able to plug in for a while keep it in mind right that that battery life makes a big difference the third thing to talk about is ergonomics so the switch light while being lighter hence the name because it's lighter you're able to you hold it up right like over your face if you're laying down or just like in the plane seat you know just doing this a bit it's not that much heavier though with the OLED now I I hit the gym quite a bit so I'm not the best person to gauge that weight difference but to me it's really not a huge difference the second piece of ergonomics though is the controls now honestly the the switch oled's buttons are slightly more spaced out maybe it's not different maybe I'm just in my head no they're not they're not more spaced out I think I just thought they were I guess it's because the the d-pad is buttons on the OLED and it's an actual d-pad on the switch light the reason for that being that for any like games you want to play on the go the d-pad would be a little bit better but on the the switch you actually need to detach this and use this as separate buttons sometimes so honestly I don't find the switch light less comfortable to hold and I got these big meaty meat hands meat hands one of the biggest things with ergonomics though is that because you can detach your controllers and then use this little kick stand and set the display like on like a tray table or just a table in front of you and just sit back and play like this that's so much better for your neck it's sometimes better for your arms your back of course you can't lay in bed like this this in play unless you have some sort of weird o like a weird stand that comes over anyway it is better for your your neck your back and all that b bus um I think it's nice to be able to do that although I rarely play in kickstand mode but because the switch lights controllers don't detach uh there's there's an advantage and disadvantage to that the advantage is this feels more solid this is this feels more durable uh these always have just just a little bit of give this is a brand new Switch I just got got it out of the box these of course don't because it's locked into plastic now I know some of you guys are going to get on my butt for saying but stick drift on the switch is a huge issue so it's nice to be able to replace your joycons yeah if you want to spend like 80 bucks to replace your joycons yes it's nice that you can do that a very expensive thing to replace it would be cheaper to buy two switch lights than to buy a switch OLED with extra controllers so just keep that in mind that argument is a little it depends on your budget and where you are and stuff o the sun is coming out dial that down to there we are that again is a preference thing being able to take the controllers off liking it being one solid product versus liking them being the old to replaceable yeah this thing doesn't matter to me but I must mention that uh 32 gigs of storage versus 64 gigs of storage that's a big issue to you you can buy a 32 GB memory card for like 12 13 bucks or you can buy a much bigger one for either either of these or it doesn't matter cuz tear of the kingdom is less than 32 GB and you can put that game on here and have all the gaming on the go you need you don't need to get another one DOI irregardless bigger screen bigger battery kickstand baju price difference let's talk about the value difference $199 for the switch light incredible deal right you can play a console level Game On The Go truly in your pocket for $1.99 plus the cost of the game so another $70 add tax $300 like here's here's the Kingdom on the go in your pocket not quite pocketable maybe if you have massive Pockets or if you use two pockets you take the controllers off put this in one pocket and then put these in another pocket kind of pocketable um but better experience on the go for 350 right that's not quite double but like when you start adding taxes and things like that it starts to feel like almost double the price of the switch light I would say you're getting double the experience I wouldn't sell myself short on that so here's where it becomes a matter of preference right if you again are only playing on the go go and pocketability is your main thing switch light is more pocketable but if you want everything else about the experience to be better the OLED switch is probably going to be for you and it you know that depends on your price sensitivity um to me I think it is worth the more money for the switch OLED because I'm going to play on my TV also and there's so many reasons the switch light can't be just what it is for my use case man it's so bright in here but 200 vers 350 that is a big price difference so just keep in mind uh you know if you're for some reason trying to decide between these two devices you need to ask yourself quite a few questions that I pointed out in this video and you need to consider things like battery life like the screen quality like the pocketability right and make that way way out different so as you could probably see I was initializing this console which means resetting it to factory settings I'm going to be returning it I'm going to have to stick with the the OLED switch just because of all the factors I mentioned I value the nicer battery life the better display and the ability to play on my TV more than I value the pocket ability of it and I learned that because I just went on a trip where I flew to Europe and I took it in my pocket and I barely ever had it in my pocket for the most part even when it was in my pocket I felt weird about having the joysticks in there um and I didn't put a case on it cuz that would have added too much bulk to it so I ended up putting it in my bag for most of the trip it only went in my pocket during the boarding process it was like okay we're going to go and get on the plane so I unzip my bag took it out put it in my pocket had the bag stowed the bag took it out of my pocket and sat down in my seat and it sat in my hands I didn't leave it in my pocket because it was just too crammed so and I'm a big dude with big Pockets so to me pocket ability that does not outweigh all of the other benefits of this guy and to me the price difference is totally worth the upsides so there we are seav that's all I've got thank you for watching
