Reflections on Honoring God - Jonathan Roumie

speaking of getting dressed up why not dress up right i was thinking about that and uh and i used i used to be of the mind set that oh man god doesn't care what you were when you go to church he just cares about what's inside yes and that that is true that is true god looks at the heart the interior not so much the exterior and a lot of jesus ministry is about pointing out at the time to the pharisees where they were going wrong about focusing on stuff that was outside going in the food that they put into their mouths versus what was coming out of their mouths these things that they were saying to the the most poor and broken of the people of broken people of their time you know the uh the um the disabled and um the destitute uh so uh yeah it's it's god is really primarily concerned about your interior but think about it this way if you were invited to go meet the queen of england if you had that very esteemed honor you're going to show up in sweats and flip-flops i don't know i don't know i don't think so i don't think so i think you're gonna get dressed up i'm just saying that's my feeling all right i think i think you'd think twice about how you dressed up i don't even know if they let you in to buckingham palace if you were one of my maybe one of my british friends over there can confirm that like would you get to meet the queen if you showed up in sweats and um flip-flops um and that's again that's not it's not a judgment on people wearing those things but if we would probably dress really nice to meet a human king or queen well when we're going to see the king of the universe and to honor him in his holy place and for catholics and orthodox knowing that the true presence of christ is in the holy sacrament in other words communion jesus is actually there wouldn't you want to sort of elevate your approach wouldn't you want to just kind of present yourself with as much honor as you can so that was my thinking that's sort of what really changed my own mind about how i dressed going to church and i knew that let's say if i was traveling or something like that and i didn't get a chance to get home and put on a shirt a collared shirt and a blazer a button down i knew if i didn't have time to do it and i just had a t-shirt you know i wouldn't be kicked out at least i could pray i'd feel i feel strange now just showing up in a t-shirt and jeans but that's just me um yeah i think i think because when i show up and i have such a different relationship now with christ you know than i did a few years ago i think just my approach to treating him and his home and and the churches from you know from with a with a a level of reverence that i that didn't quite click before you know anyway that was just something i wanted to share with you about that that was on my heart today so i thought oh yeah let me talk about that
