you love Red Dead Redemption 2 I love Red Dead Redemption 2 basically everyone loves Red Dead Redemption 2 it has an incredibly detailed environment and it's packed with memorable characters and gorgeous photorealistic Graphics that make you feel like you're inside a living breathing world it's like an interactive Wild West movie needless to say though Red Dead Redemption 2 is the kind of game that comes once a decade and takes you on an adventure that will live in your memories forever but imagine the things you could do in a game like this if it had online co-op and multiplayer and instead of a scripted narrative you could create your own Adventures go on heists rob banks and run your very own Saloon maybe even buy a nice house on a ranch in the middle of nowhere and raise some animals the possibilities are endless here oh wait Rockstar did make an online version of Red Dead Redemption 2 it was called Red Dead online and the beta was released in November of 2018 just 1 month after the single player Story released the timing couldn't have been any better for red than online you finish the main story line get hooked on the atmosphere and awesome characters and jump straight St into online to continue the fun with your friends but once you're done fiddling with the Character Creator and get to the game play it turns out to be completely Hollow where are the PVP gang battles bank and train robberies saloons with hot meals and a bath wait it doesn't even have gambling and by the time your brain has come to terms with the disappointing reality of Rdio some dude from the neighboring County blows your head off with a dynamite bow and arrow and vanishes into the woods much like your interest in the game you see red that online didn't die it was murdered by none other than Rockstar and in this video I'm going to show you how it happened let's start with the beta phase of the game which launched on November 27th 2018 read that online had a somewhat engaging but incomplete storyline with just nine missions random free roam events and stranger missions which were like repetitive side quests with a really low payout there was also hunting and fishing for players who wanted to take in the nature and ran the beautiful countryside while admiring the wildlife but here's the problem there is very little wild west content in the game you could Ro the massive open world and goof around with your friends but Rockstar didn't really include any cool stuff like duels from Red Dead Redemption 1 or bounties or bank robberies and those should have been the core of the Red Dead online experience from the GetGo and it should have had a longer more fleshed out story line with more missions without the ability to purchase Properties or go on multi-stage heists there just wasn't much to do in the game you had PVP but even this was busted because of the extremely aggressive auto aim mechanic and the one hit head shot I ironically the Varmint Rifle which is one of the weakest weapons in the single player game became the most overpowered gun in red de that online because of its high accuracy High ammo capacity and Rapid Fire rate and players would just abuse this gun to score instant headshot kills and matters were made worse by the fact that you could literally see everyone in the lobby on your mini map at all times the game rapidly descended into one giant grief Fest especially if you were a solo player out there despite the beta being full of glitches and lacking any proper cont content many players were still enjoying themselves you could squeeze in a few hours of fun from the story missions and stranger missions and hunting and fishing were also quite relaxing provided your stuff wasn't stolen by another guy this by the way happened quite often causing many players to rage quit after getting their wagon destroyed by a seemingly friendly group of strangers and the real issue here however was the economy a few hours of grinding would only net you about $20 cool you could open up the catalog and start browsing through the list of available guns that you could buy you see the legendary Mouser pistol one of the best pistols in the game and then your heart sinks as you get to the price tag $1,000 yep back in the beta days this gun was priced at $1,000 and because missions paid so little and you barely got any money from looting NPCs there was only one alternative gold bars that you purchase with real money despite everything else in the game being broken or unfinished the microtransactions and the store worked perfectly fine this was not the Red Dead online that we had all hoped for or were even expecting and things were not looking good for Red Dead fans in December 2018 Rockstar released a patch after listening to community feedback and popular items that were overpriced like the Mouser pistol for example saw a price cut by up to 40% so now the Mouser would cost $600 instead of 1,000 and rewards for stranger missions were also buffed a little bit to provide more cash and gold to players but the game was still lacking any fun activities and felt mostly empty so this economy fix was just a Band-Aid patch when in reality read that online needed an extensive overhaul on January 10th 2019 we got another update called gunrush this update was named after the new PVP Mode called gunrush which was basically just an old Wild West Battle Royale while BRS are neat and all Rockstar was just grabbing onto the recent trend from popular games like fortnite and pubg instead of Leaning Into the Wild West theme which should have been the central focus of Red Dead online from the start Red Dead online's base gameplay wasn't well suited for a competitive fast-paced runand gun shooter game mode but Rockstar wanted to desperately take players down that route and turn it into a competitive online shooter to sell more of their microtransactions and keep players engaged in February 2019 a new update that released fixed a lot of the core issues within the game first and foremost it added the much needed daily challenges to the game so players had a much better and more reliable way of earning gold picking flowers hunting certain animals killing targets with specific weapons riding your horses Etc all of those challenges would reward you in a very organic way for just playing the game and these challenges also had streak m suppliers that kept increasing until you hit the 28 day Mark after which they would stay as long as you did at least one challenge every single day and back then you could earn up to five gold bars in a single day from the challenges which was plenty for new players to buy some cool weapons and accessories apart from the daily challenges the February 2019 update also added the Evans rep pater and more free roam events like Fool's Gold into the game Red Dead online finally went out of beta and got a full release in May of 2019 and Rockstar added new stranger missions they made gameplay tweaks to improve PVP and fix many of the bugs which made for a smoother gameplay experience they also added new land of opportunity story missions which were the story-based Cooperative missions for a team of up to four players poker was another welcome addition to the game and it really helped players immerse themselves in that wild west environment this update gave us the excellent lamat revolver as well which could fire shotgun shells in addition to the regular bullets and rockar also posted a newswire talking about the future update road map which looked quite promising with three different roles that had unique perks this was the moment when players began to regain faith in the company since Rockstar was making meaningful gameplay improvements and they promised to add cool new stuff in the upcoming summer update that big update came in September 2019 and it was called Frontier Pursuits it was the biggest content release that Red Dead online had ever received until this point and the game now had three exciting new roles the Bounty Hunter The Collector and the trader role each focusing on different aspects of red de online's gameplay and provided unique perks to players rolls also had their own leveling system that rewarded you with new abilities and cosmetics but while also adding new ways to make money for sure roxstar didn't really add many new ways to spend it you still couldn't purchase houses that you wanted Farmland bars or Stables there was no end goal for grinding other than a few hats and jackets speaking of hats Frontier Pursuits also gave us a battle pass that cost 35 gold bars but it would give you all of the gold back if you were fully leveled up and so that was pretty nice right there and leveling it up also wasn't that hard plus you got a lot of exclusive rewards overall players really liked the battle pass which was called The Outlaw pass and how it was implemented things were finally looking good for red de online and it seemed as though Rockstar was on the right path less than 2 months after Frontier Pursuits Red Dead Redemption 2 was released on the PC platform and added millions of new fans this also meant new Red Dead online players as well so you'd expect Rockstar to try even harder and release content fans have been asking for since the beta phase but we got a new update in the form of Moonshiners in December this was a new role in which she made and sold moonshine and it was also a way to kind of own your own house and property and it also added a new story with some fun missions we also got the Navy revolver and Outlaw pass too but that was about it the Moonshiners update also introduced many glitches here but Rockstar never really fixed these and they also stayed silent on future updates for a long long time and so this was a stark change from Just 2 months earlier when rockar had released the newswire talking about Red Dead online's future in July of 2020 read that online players began the clown movement wearing clown costumes to protest Rockstar's lack of communication with their fans and Rockstar in typical Rockstar fashion didn't respond to this even though it was all over social media nevertheless another update was released towards the end of July of 2020 this was the naturalists update it added the naturalist role along with new garments and some legendary animals basically you ran around sedating animals and collecting blood samples for a nerdy preservationist woman with weird hair who sprays you with hallucinogens if you kill too many animals and this was considered a boring side activity at Best by a lot of players in the game because they regarded redit online as a game all about Outlaws and killing and stealing and then there was also the insanely powerful elephant rifle that threw you back every time you fired it which was pretty fun but overall this update was considered pretty mediocre by fans because it wasn't solving the core problem that they had with the game Shard added a bunch of missions to play in the form of the legendary animal hunts but it just wasn't scratching that itch that players had [Music] in October 2020 we got the Halloween pass and in December the bounty hunters update this patch was extremely controversial despite adding a good bit of content first off daily challenges were heavily nerfed so you got 50% less money streaks would now reset after 28 days and on the positive side Rockstar added new legendary bounty hunter missions with three new targets we had 10 new progression ranks new free roam Bounties in the form of Infamous bounties skills and items and they also added new horses and weapon variants for the lamat and the Evans repeater but this was all window dressing compared to the real gameplay changes which meant players now made significantly less gold from daily challenges and to get the new Bounty Hunter content you had to Fork out another 15 gold bars which was the same as the base Bounty Hunter role this was considered an outrageously greedy move from Rockstar and overall the Bounty Hunter update did have its pros and cons the nerfing of daily challenges and charging 15 gold for a minor Improvement to the Bounty Hunter roll was not well received by players but we did get some new stuff after all this time and it was some fun content yeah you were spending 15 gold but what else would you spend it on because red that online still didn't have any big items for you to purchase other than cosmetics and weapon variants in March of 2021 we got Outlaw pass 5 which was basically just another pass that came without any other content besides it and basically it was just that Standalone pass in which Rockstar wanted to test out people's capacity for buying these Cosmetics with no meaningful gameplay changes accompanying these cosmetics and then after Outlaw P 5 when all the hype for Red Dead online had pretty much died down Rockstar announced another massive summer update that promised to introduce crimes multi-stage robberies coach holdups Bank heists deck collections the community began theorizing on all sorts of stuff one week before the update went public Banks were open for some weird reason making people think that bank heists were finally going to become a thing in the freeo but in July of 2021 when the update called blood money actually made its way into the game everyone realized it was just a minor tweak on existing Mission mechanics with a few new Mission types that were interchangeable and repetitive and most of all forgettable worst of all they added a new virtual currency called Capital which was needed to engage in the most fun highest paying robbery opportunities you actually needed to pay this currency in order to be recruited for one of these missions and capital could only be purchased with gold bars which of course you needed to spend real life money on or in some cases you could actually collect them from different treasure chests you find during the the mission or off of looting enemy bodies and after stealing something really big like this high value Jewel or artifact you didn't even get to keep it you just handed it over to this Italian guy in exchange for a meager sum of money so your only real option here to play these missions a lot would force you to grind Capital just to get into this Mission and end up giving away the high stakes reward at the end needless to say players did not like this system and they were also underwhelmed with the lack of variety and freedom in these crime missions but there was one silver lining instead of of one big Outlaw pass we now got four smaller rapid fire passes in the form of the Quick Draw Club passes more content arrived and in drip feed fashion with the c to Arms mode in August 2021 which was basically a PVE survival mode in which you fought waves of enemies and players loved the addition of this it was something we requested for a long time and we finally got it in December of 2021 we got no new DLC Rockstar actually did away with the weekly events as well saying that they would transition to monthly events instead and fans knew where this was going it was the beginning of the end for Red Dead online in July 2022 we got the now Infamous Community update that signaled the official end of Red Dead online's future the servers of course are still online and dedicated fans like myself are still going to be roaming the desolate landscape but there are officially no big major content expansions in the future and despite being a game that's half as old as GTA online read that online is now pretty much dead due to a lack of interest and passion from Rockstar was red that online destined to fail from the beginning did Rockstar fumble the formula that they had perfected with GTA online over the past decade or is the wild west world of red de online simply unsuitable for a fast-paced multiplayer action game I believe Rockstar should have leaned even further into the strengths of Red Dead adding stuff that everyone wanted from the beginning like heists Sheriff quest lines homesteading Etc instead of drip feeding new cosmetics and other overpriced items but what are your thoughts on the reasons that red that online failed do you still play the game let me know in the comments below thank you so much for watching and I will see you guys in the next video adios amigos [Music]
