I know I'm not alone in this, but I have always had a sort of fascination
with those brownstone buildings in New York. These are like ridiculously expensive,
really old, really, really beautiful homes. And when I say ridiculously expensive we're
talking like multi, multi millions of dollars, okay, like not attainable in the slightest. But they're just really pretty
so I like to look at them. This is the kind of thing that I'm talking about,
just in case you're not familiar with the concept. When I say brownstone, I quite
literally mean brownstone buildings. Here's another example of a different
building, you can see they're all very similar, they all have the same facade, there's lots
of like these angled bay windows going on. This one's a little bit different,
they're a bit smaller and they have some kind of fancy bay window
type stuff happening down here. This one is also a little bit smaller and it's
got some fancy roof line stuff happening too. I say smaller, it's still three stories tall, it's just that some of the other ones
are a little bit bigger than this. This one, as you can see, is four stories tall. So like I was saying, I have always kind
of had a fascination with this style of building and I've tried to build this kind
of thing quite a few times in The Sims. The difference is I built it a long time
ago before the new rent pack came out and now with the new rent pack, we can
make these like, actually functional. So that is the goal today, I want
to build some proper functional New York brownstone inspired townhouses in The Sims 4. When I was younger, I would have died to
have my Sims live in something like this. Obviously I still like it, but I'm
like feeding my inner child with this one because this feels like the
movies to me, does that make sense? So let's just jump straight into this
because we have six units to build. So you might want to go grab a snack or something
because this video is going to be a long one. I'm building this on the Old Salt House
lot in San Myshuno, this is where there's usually a standalone house, but I bulldozed
it so I could build this lot here instead. This area of San Myshuno, this Spice District I felt like was
so perfect for this style of building. I've been like dreaming of putting something
functional like this here for years. I have built multiple fake apartment
apartments on this lot over the years. During my Not So Berry challenge, I played
on this lot in a fake apartment building, it was like a four story tall giant apartment. And I only furnished the third floor and then
had my Sims "live in an apartment," but in reality it was just like a big giant square box
that I had built, so I'm serious, being able to build a proper functional custom apartment here
in San Myshuno is like, life changing for me. And like I had mentioned, there are six
units in total on this lot and you might be looking at this and thinking um, Kayla,
there's four, what are you talking about? But what I've built here are four townhouses
upstairs on like the ground floor and all four units are three stories tall, and then I wanted
them to have basements because I kind of liked the idea of that like window well concept, but
I decided against making the basements part of these townhouses and instead I turned the
basements into separate basement apartments. So you'll see me working on that for a little bit,
we've got quite the basement going on down here. They're all separate apartments. There's two
big like, square shaped apartments down there, plus there's a storage room and a shared
laundry room and a gym down in the basement. And then obviously upstairs we have like four carbon copies of each other
with the four townhouses. I realize that at first glance
this might be kind of ugly looking, I definitely had some comments like that
in my Twitch chat that were like um, Kayla, there's way too many
windows, what are you doing? But this is kind of the style, so bear in
mind we're building some really long, tall, and skinny townhouses that are meant to be
in a very densely populated city and they only have windows on the front and the
back so they're going to try and cover those walls with windows because
they have no windows in the sides. So yes, it's maybe a little bit weird looking
at first glance, like the huge wall of windows, but I do try to separate it with columns and try
and make each unit a little bit more obvious, just trust the process, okay,
because we will get there. And then the other weird thing that I
should probably address is that yes, I am building this lot backwards right now. Technically what we're looking at as the
front is actually the back of the lot, but I'm building it backwards because
this lot has kind of weird lighting. I really don't like to build in
shadow so often times when lots have like the sun kind of in a
weird place and the front of the lot is always in shadow during the
day, I don't like to build there. It isn't really that big of a deal for
regular gameplay content, but when I'm making build videos or if I'm just playing
to build, it's just kind of annoying to me when I can't see the colors that I'm using
because the sun is like, behind the house. Worse is when it's like on the side of the house
and it goes like directly over the building because the sun is always bad in that case, but
basically sometimes I build houses backwards to get the most optimal lighting and then I flip
them back around before I put it on the gallery. So we're just going to build this
backwards for a lot of today, which again is maybe kind of
weird, but we'll get there. And you can see now we're kind of starting
to figure out the color scheme here, I was originally using a lot of white, but
that didn't really fit the brownstone vibes that I had in my head so I switched all of those
university windows to like a darker brown color. They have a white trim on the inside
still and I think that still works. I also really struggled with
the front doors because none of the university front doors match each other. They all have really wacky color schemes.
You might think they match, they don't match properly and they don't have any windows in
them either so I wanted to try and get ones that were small enough to fit, match the colors
well enough, and also had windows because again, it's a townhouse, there's very little natural
light so I was trying to embrace that. So it took me a while to figure
out the window color scheme, it was definitely a lot of back and forth there. But hopefully at this point you're
kind of starting to see the vision a little bit more and you're getting
what I'm trying to do a bit better. The other sort of weird thing is that
this house is built on a huge platform, so I wanted to do it this way because I wanted to have those window wells in the basement
and have it look like one big flat wall. And so I used platform so I could raise
up and still have little staircases into the front doors without having the
weird glitching of the foundations. Foundations and platforms are both
fun for very different reasons and in this case the platforms kind
of made a little bit more sense. If I want to have a basement that is
visible like this, it's really hard to use foundations because they always get
kind of weird and like the textures mess up. Sometimes the staircases get weird, so I felt
like the platforms were better although it does make it kind of annoying on the inside
because platforms have their share of bugs. Often times platforms have like weird
lighting glitches with weird shadows so you kind of have to just pick
and choose what you're willing to deal with, and in this case I was
willing to deal with platforms. And then in the front I tried to do a
bunch of really cute decorative stuff so I lined the street with trees because
bear in mind, we're trying to pretend that this is like the public sidewalk,
this front of the building right here. So I tried to line it with some nice trees in
those trees cages, I put some pretty landscaping, we also have some kind of nice like iron
fences in front of those window wells. I was really trying to channel and like, mimic what I was seeing in the
pictures of the real life houses. You're probably wondering right now
like how do you get into the basement? Like you've blocked off the the
basement access. Don't worry, what I did was go around the side of
the building and I put a staircase down into the basement that kind of
accesses a hallway off to the side. I wanted to have a nice proper open basement
access that was big and wide and not like, kind of squeezed into those tiny little squares. Plus this way the basement is
easily accessible by everybody, so there's one big basement access so all of
the Sims can go into the shared spaces down here and then the Sims who live down here can
also have easy access to their own front doors. Because like I was mentioning earlier, in that
basement I put a handful of nice shared things, we have the shared laundry,
we have a cool gym space, and we also have these kind of
interesting like storage rooms. If you saw that line of tiny rooms and wondered
what the heck that was, it's supposed to be like storage units because a lot of times in apartment
buildings like this -- this one is maybe not so accurate because these are townhouses and
not really an apartment building, but a lot of times in big apartment buildings they'll
have storage spaces outside of your apartment. And they're literally in like cages,
like what you'll see me do here. In The Sims it looks like I've added some
sort of weird jail cell in the basement, that is not what I did, it's supposed to be
a storage room and be like a storage cage, storage unit thing down there. I really understand that if you've never
seen it before, it looks really weird, but I swear it's normal, okay, you can Google it. Just take my word for it. And then the last thing I was
trying to do on the outside, the last main feature is that
I wanted to add a fire escape. And I was kind of trying to
do it with real staircases, but the problem was that because I had such
varied wall sizes, the staircases weren't really lining up quite nicely so I wanted to
have that roof access with the fire escape, but it just didn't end up working out so I
actually used a debug fake fire escape instead. So your Sims cannot access the roof, it's
just flat, but that's okay, we have a fake fire escape so it looks like you can access
the roof even though you actually can't. All of the townhouses do have a
private backyard space though, unfortunately the basement apartments do not have
any private yard space, but the big townhouses do. So they have like you know, hot tubs
and little kids playground equipment and things like that down there in the basement. There was a lot of talk about
different ideas for the roof, my Twitch chat was like really
throwing out some concepts. We did even talk about adding a pool up there. The problem with that is that it
cuts into the space that belongs to the houses down below so we just
weren't sure what was best to try. And I settled on not having anything up there, plus these houses are really big
anyway, they are three stories tall. Every single townhouse has
the exact same floor plan, so you'll see me try and do that multiple times. I furnished them all completely
differently though which was kind of fun for me to do because I was trying
to like, envision different types of Sims in my head who might live here and
then decorate the house for them. I'll explain that more once
we actually get inside, right now I'm doing some last minute details
on the outside trying to figure out like, clutter and decor that I can put on
the outside that actually makes sense. And one of the things that I was picturing
were like billboards on the building. Because a lot of the other buildings, granted, they're fake buildings, but the
other shells of buildings in this part of town have billboards so I was kind
of trying to channel that and put some here. And then there's also a couple like big
mural type things that kind of worked so I was experimenting with those a little bit. There is one from Cats and Dogs that's
like a big giant shrimp and I thought about using that one because my cat's name
is Shrimp, but it just didn't really look that good so I didn't use that one, but
I did use some from the Industrial Loft kit because they're a bit more like sheer
almost, and so because they're a little bit more transparent you can see the brick
underneath them so it looks a bit better. And at this point we have
flipped the building back around and we are actually building
the backyard from the backyard side. So that's pretty good, we're finally working
on the real back of the building now. And I gotta say, these buildings
have an absolutely amazing view, you can see it backs up onto the
water, but there's like a view of the bridge and across the river
you can see more city buildings. So they have like a cityscape view
and a water view and a bridge view, so these are like prime real estate.
These would be so expensive in real life. It is like the perfect location. And as far as The Sims goes, the Spice District
is right here so you get like the Spice Festival happening, there's a fishing spot right behind
their house, you've got a basketball court and a playground over in the middle of like,
this central courtyard area in the world. So there's just a lot of nice places to
be, there's karaoke right next door you, I mean you've got all kinds of lovely
amenities in The Sims over here. I think the Spice District is my favorite
of the neighborhoods in The Sims 4. At least -- no, sorry, my favorite of the
San Myshuno neighborhoods I should clarify. I don't think San Myshuno is my favorite out
of all of the Sims 4 worlds, but it's up there, and of the neighborhoods in San
Myshuno, I like this one the best. I do have a lot of fond memories of San Myshuno
so it kind of has a special place in my heart. I think they've made better worlds since
then, but it still is the only like, all apartment world in the game
so it's kind of nice to have this, even though we can build custom apartments
now, it's still fun to have like the original. It's fun to have like a proper city,
especially when you want to add in more city-like buildings like this one,
it's cool to have access to that. But we have finally finished the
generic exterior so we're moving inside to start furnishing
all of the actual apartments. And I started with the basement
because I was most excited about this one and this apartment that I'm
choosing to show you is kind of weird. There are two basement apartments, you can see
right now that one of them is already furnished. I did cut out some of the furnishing because this video was so long, it was like a
two hour long speed build and that's just too much, so I tried to cut down some
parts and like, show you the highlights. One of the apartments in the basement
belongs to like two roommates and it's very pink and green themed, that
one is next door to this one. And then this one I decorated
to be a vampire apartment. It was a little bit out there compared to
all the other things that I was building. This is not like a vampire townhouse,
there are no other occult things here, there's nothing vampire related in this entire
building except for this basement apartment, but I was trying to think like, what kinds
of Sims might want to live in the basement. I'm picturing these apartments
being a little bit more affordable, but also they're darker because
they don't have much natural light. They have a little bit of natural light
coming in through those window wells, but not really a lot so I figured you know what,
a vampire might actually really like it down here so I decorated one of these to be a vampire's
apartment so we're doing that one right now. These two apartments have very similar floor
plans, just kind of mirrored from each other. They're both two bedrooms, one,
like I said is for roommates, and this one is for a vampire and their baby. This one is also quite formal, they have like a
really fancy layout, some really fancy flooring. It's always interesting to see like the
Twitch chat reaction when I'm building these things because obviously I get
comments on YouTube about this stuff, but it just like hits harder on Twitch
because it's live so the feedback is happening while I'm building it
instead of after I've built it. But in Twitch chat, a lot of
people really hated this apartment. They really didn't like that I was using
different flooring in the apartments, they wanted it to be the same across them both,
but sort of my idea was that these people own this apartment and it's really old, so it's
probably been changed a lot over the years. Like yes, they were built at the
same time and they probably had the same original flooring and like,
some of the same original fixtures, but that was like maybe a hundred years ago
and so things have changed a lot since then, people have renovated, you know, a vampire has
moved in so they've installed a new chandelier. So I tried to make all of the insides quite
different because I wanted to have some nice personality into them and also it makes it a
little bit more obvious for the video which apartment is which because obviously they're
all set with like the rooms and stuff from the rent pack, but sometimes it's hard to
follow the lines and it's hard to figure out the floor plan when you're looking at it
top down when you aren't the one who built it. So when I decorate it like this and the rooms are
like, very obvious which apartment it belongs to, it's a little bit easier to keep
track of as a viewer I think. So anyway, I like to give them different floorings and styles instead of building
the same thing like four times. It'll be a bit more fun for you as the player
too if you wanted to come here because then all of your neighbors apartments will be
super different if you go and visit them. Speaking of playing in this apartment
though, this one uses a lot of packs. This one is like, really out there, some of the
most packs I've probably ever used in a build. It's a rough one, I may have used almost every
pack in this build so I apologize in advance. This is not by any means a limited pack build,
already you can see we've used a ton of packs. We're moving on from the downstairs basement
apartments and into that first upstairs one now and this one I was kind of inspired
by the new rent pack for the color scheme. I wanted to use that absolutely
horrendous sofa, which I never use. I never use that like horrible
magenta color from the base game, but I was trying to find a way to use that and
then tie it in with that rug from For Rent. I actually don't hate it that much, I had used
this color scheme for a smallish apartment when I was building with the rent pack, but I haven't
done it for like a full giant house like this yet. So I based the whole thing around
that rug and then tried to mix and match all the other furniture to go with it. And this was also a controversial choice in
the Twitch chat so if you don't like this, don't worry, you're not alone. Just give me time, okay, trust the
process, it comes together, I swear. In each of these upstairs apartments, I mentioned
earlier how they all have the exact same layout, you can kind of see when you look next door like
over the walls, they have the same floor plan, but they're all furnished differently and
they've got different countertops and stuff. So for these, this is the back
that we're doing right now. In the back there's a kitchen and
living room combo and then in the front next to the stairs there's
kind of like a formal dining room. I felt like that was kind of realistic for an old
house like this especially because it's sort of older and built in a different era when they kind
of prioritized formal dining rooms a bit more. It seemed like it was a good idea
to have that quite front and center. Plus it was a little bit tighter of a space and so I didn't really want to
have the living room in there. And when I'm thinking about like most modern
living as well, I don't know about you, but formal dining rooms aren't
really that necessary anymore. I know a lot of people do still use
them, but I think like the average family might eat in like the breakfast
nook or like, at the kitchen counter. I most often eat dinner on
the couch if I'm being honest. I don't even use my dining table at all really. I use my dining table like a desk if I'm being
honest, I'll sit downstairs and like work on my laptop at the dining table, but I don't really
ever eat there unless like my parents are over. So it's nice when I've got people over, but for like a day-to-day basis, I
don't really use the table that much. So to me it made more sense to have
the living room close to the kitchen because those were like, my two most used rooms. And also let's be real, do your Sims use
their dining table? No, no they don't. Your Sims don't have big formal family
dinners, it's hard to wrangle them for that. So I just felt like TV and kitchen were
better together, they made more sense. So I just felt like TV and kitchen were
better together, it made more sense. And then also downstairs we have a very small
half bathroom kind of like behind the staircase, and then when you go upstairs there's
two bedrooms and two bathrooms. And then you go upstairs again on the
third floor and there's a primary bedroom, a bathroom, and also like a flex space. I keep calling it the loft
when I was building this, but I sort of picture that loft space as being
like a different skill room for each house. So you'll see in this house it's kind of
like an art studio, in one of the others that loft is a games room, in one it's a
playroom for the kids, so I was trying to use it like a flex space and like, make it
be different in all of the different homes. So I guess in reality the houses aren't actually
that big because they're three bedroom and three, four bathroom -- four bathroom
houses, oh my, that's a bit much. They're very tall and skinny though so them
being so tall and skinny makes the floor plan kind of hard to fit as much as you might want
to because there's just not that many windows. So all these houses I decorated for families
because that's just kind of how I play The Sims, all of my Sims end up having kids so I most often
need spaces that have a lot of kids bedrooms, but I decorated the upstairs of this
one for a couple of kid and teens rooms. We're kind of starting with
that teen room right now. And this one also has a very
pink and blue color scheme, kind of mimicking the downstairs a little bit. This is actually one of my favorite
teen rooms that I have ever done, this came together really nicely. I found a couple things I never thought
to use really, like for example, those High School Years curtains that have
that kind of like ombre effect with the purple at the bottom, that matched really
well to the purple accents in this rug. I put some pretty fairy lights, we had a
nice brick wall, exposed brick accent inside. There's kind of like a cute desk
nook and stuff for this Sim to use, overall I just thought it
was really pretty in here. It's fun doing a building like this because
there's so many bedrooms to furnish, I mean keep in mind, I basically furnished
like 15 bedrooms for this house, you know? So I was doing a lot and I was really digging to
try and find stuff that I didn't use very often. And I was kind of trying to pick some weird
themes too I guess as I was furnishing. And like focusing on styling a room around
an item that I maybe don't use very often, so I might like find a couch that I never
use and base the whole space around that, find a curtain I barely use and
base the whole space around that. And I was kind of having fun
trying to experiment that way. For example, the kids bedroom of this house
is like a shared bedroom between two Sims and I used a lot of the Cats and Dogs and
My First Pet Stuff furniture in here. It has this kind of weird like cat-shaped
bed situation going on and I kind of like it for a kids bedroom so I used
that for this kids space and I got to use all kinds of My First Pet Stuff
items that I just do not ever touch. I don't really like this bedroom
set, it is a nice kids bedroom set, but it's very chunky, if that makes sense. Like the furniture itself is very
large and chunky in a way that doesn't really match anything else from the game. When I use the nightstand and the
dresser, you'll probably get a better idea of what I'm talking about,
but it's just kind of a weird shape. Like it's so large. It reminds me of almost
like some Animal Crossing furniture and it doesn't really match The Sims that well, like
it just doesn't seem like Sims furniture to me. It doesn't even seem like furniture
at all, it's a very weird shaped item. This is a very niche reference, okay,
but Disney World, you know that ToonTown they used to have here in Orlando where
Mickey and Minnie's houses used to be? It reminds me of like Minnie Mouse's
house and her like strange proportions and like curvy furniture, Google it if
you haven't seen what I'm talking about. I think they still have it
in California at Disneyland, but I live in Orlando so my
expertise is Florida based. But that's what this furniture has always reminded
me of so I don't really use it very often. We are finally moving on to the third floor
now and I'm updating the primary bedroom and it's ensuite bathroom and you can also see that
like, loft space that I was talking about finally. It is kind of weird, it's just like
a big open area in the stair landing. There's there's not a lot of room for a bedroom
up here with how the stairs ended up working out and so I just left it open and tried to
put some like, skill building items here. We've got a games table, we've got some like
clutter and almost like a library going on. I don't remember if I kept the rat, I thought
about putting the rat from My First Pet Stuff up here, but I can't remember if I kept
it or not, if I turn the camera I'll see, but I did consider that for a while, that
was like a priority -- oh, it is still there! Oh good. Okay, hopefully this
audio is synced up correctly to the video otherwise you're going to
be like what is she talking about? Sometimes when I'm doing speed builds, because
I pause and and stop and start so often, like the the video and audio get kind of
out of sync which isn't that big of a deal. Most times I'm speaking kind of
generically about the build and not like, specifically referencing one item so
it's not as obvious, but in this case, me going oh my god, the rat's still
there, that's going to make it kind of obvious if the rat was in fact not
there when you were looking at the camera. But it's fine. So I did keep the rat. I don't often
use those My First Pet Stuff rats. I like them, they're funny to have, I've got them my legacy challenge
right now because I like to have a rat. The problem is they're totally bugged. So I get these non-stop pop-ups that my rat
has died even though the rat hasn't died, it's still in there and then everybody
gets the baby whisked away moodlet as if like a child was taken away
by Social Services in game. It is a known bug and it's been happening for like five years so I don't often
use the rats because of that. They kind of go through waves of bad-ness, like they're not always as bad as other
times, but anyway, I put one here. I'm not really selling it right
now, you're probably like okay, so if I download the house the first
thing I'm going to do is delete the rat. But that is the whole first house basically
finished, we are now moving on to one of the houses next door and this one has kind of
like a... honestly it has a blue and purple color scheme too, but in a different way,
it's like a lighter blue and more of like a dusty rose color instead of that like
vibrant magenta color I used next door. And this one I decorated to
be very family house vibes, so this is the house that has that
playroom upstairs in the loft area. I tried to make sure there's bedrooms for quite
a few kids in here so we had plenty of space. And you might be noticing at this point of
the video I'm having a bit of a problem where the whole house was raised on an absolutely
giant foundation and I don't really know why. I don't know how I did that, I must have
dragged It up by accident and then not realized. This build was being kind of laggy as I was
doing it, I mean it is really big so it makes sense that it was being laggy, but I had a
bit of an issue where the whole thing jumped way up into the sky and so I had to like, go
back and undo so I could get it to go away. Because it wouldn't let me lower the foundation
again, it kept being like you cannot do this. Okay, well that makes no sense because it was
never on a foundation before and it was fine, but anyway, The Sims 4 is going to be
Sims 4-ing and there's always going to be a problem, we shouldn't really act surprised. The game is just like that sometimes. Just
warning you in case you see it and you're like what the heck just happened, what's going
on. Yeah, The Sims 4 is just being The Sims 4. While we're working on this though, I actually
have kind of a fun little announcement. I'm calling this like a soft launch
announcement, okay? But it's kind of exciting. So as most of you probably know, I do a lot of
charity fundraising over on my Twitch channel, and I was recently invited by St.
Jude Children's Research Hospital to go to their hospital and do
a fundraising stream from there. We've raised a lot of money for them just from
here, like from my office, just sitting here at my PC, but they wanted to bring me and my family
out to visit their hospital, mostly so they could show my parents the hospital because I've been
there a couple times now and my parents haven't. And they had this really cool idea to use their
studio to do a fundraising stream from there. And this is kind of fun because they
have like a team of people who are really tech-y and like, work on
stuff like this for a living. Because they obviously make like promotional
content and stuff like that so they have a team and like a room they can use as
a studio space there at the hospital. And so the idea is that we're going to do a take two of my parents doing like a
Sims trivia Jeopardy challenge. I did this last year and I'll link
it down below for you so you can see, I'll put it on the end card, but
I just did it like from here, my parents just sat next to me and like I read
out questions from a PowerPoint that I had made. But they have like extra cameras and they have
like, one of them has a Jeopardy game software and so we're going to have like a proper
scoreboard, we're going to have cameras and stuff going on, so it's going to be kind of
a cool stream, I think that you might like it. So that's going to be on Monday, January 22nd. And I'm going to try to dual stream it, I've never like streamed on Twitch and YouTube
at the same time, but because I have help, I'm going to try and do it next
week during this fundraising stream. So it's going to be at 3pm eastern
time on Monday, January 22nd, that's when I normally post my YouTube videos
if you're like in a different time zone. 3pm my time is 8pm in the UK so hopefully
that helps you to figure out what time we're talking about, but it should be kind
of fun, we have a couple ideas up my sleeve, we'll do the trivia and then I'm going to have my
parents do a build challenge against each other. And they obviously know not a
single thing about The Sims. Look, for people that raised me and
have dealt with me non-stop talking about Sims for years, you'd
think they would know more. You know me, you know how I am, I
can talk and talk and talk and talk. Especially about my favorite little things
like The Sims 4 so if you think my videos are bad and I just go on and on and
on and on, I do that in real life. So my mom, she watches all of my videos
because she usually listens to them like, out loud while she's like doing
laundry or like, cooking dinner. So she hears everything I say, she
doesn't watch them because she's usually busy when she has them
on, but she listens to them all, she's listening right now, she's probably
going to text me when she hears this. So on top of like, all of the
listening she does and also all of the talking I do outside of my videos,
they really should know more than they do, but it's kind of embarrassing how
little they know about The Sims. If you didn't watch that trivia video I
made with them, I cut down the previous trivia stream into a YouTube video and like
I said I'm going to have it linked for you, you really should go back and watch it
because it's really like, obvious questions. If you play The Sims, you
know every answer to these. Like you will get the question. It's stuff like a picture of Nancy
Landgraab asking you to name the Sim. So if you have played The Sims 4 or you
watch a Sims 4 YouTube video, you know these. So it's kind of funny to just look
at them struggling to figure it out. And then there's like a couple random things
that you wouldn't expect them to know, but they do and they like come out
with it and it's a real shock so I think you'll enjoy it and I'm
kind of excited to do it again. Especially because like when it's live,
I feel like it's more fun because it's actually happening and the chat's like,
playing along and it's just kind of cool. So, January 22nd is the day that we're doing that. I'll post more about that and like talk
more about it in the coming week or so, but I wanted to let you know,
our speed builds are like our little chatty podcast update space
so figured it was worth mentioning. We are obviously now working on
the bedrooms of this family house and this bedroom is actually one of my
favorite teen rooms I have ever done. I already said that, but this one I actually mean. This one I kind of tried to decorate
almost a little bit witchy for this Sim. I used a lot of these dark
blue colors and then I used that kind of cool painting from Realm of Magic. We have a lot of the High School Years furniture that matches really well in
here with those dark colors. There's a bunch of fairy lights,
I really liked the vibes in here. I've never done a room like this before. Don't laugh, I did use the same rug in this room
as I did in the little My First Pet Stuff room, and they're right next to each other so it's like,
really, really blatantly obvious that I did that, but I guess when you're playing here,
you aren't going to see them both. Like you'll only see one loaded
at once because it's a rental lot type so it won't be too bad and too
obvious that it's the same rug twice. It's just that like looking at it from build mode
and seeing it looks kind of silly because it's very clear that I've just copy and pasted
the same thing again, but it looks good. That rug is actually the little tiny Snowy Escape rug sized up a lot and then placed
twice to look like a big fuzzy rug. It has that kind of nice pastel-y purple color
and I used a lot of pastel purple in this house. There's basically purple stuff
everywhere across this entire building, even the vampire house is kind of purple. I will say that the rooms that I'm not
showing you in this build are not as purple, but I didn't show them in the speed
build so it basically doesn't count. We will get to that though,
I'll show you a tour at the end. Like I said, I wanted to only
include like half of the units here in the speed build because
it was just such a long video. I don't know if anybody wants
to watch me talk over a speed build all flustered for an hour
and a half straight, you know? So I tried to keep it to a minimum with
the kind of content that we were including. Okay, so the last part of the speed build in
this video is that playroom I keep talking about. I really, really love playrooms in The Sims. I kind of like, forgot about them and
never really added them for the longest time and now ever since we got infants,
I've been thinking about it a lot more. And I just think that playrooms A,
are kind of realistic, but also B, are really fun to have in a family house. I have such a habit of only putting kids toys in
their bedroom so it's been nice for me to like, pull them out and put them more in the living
space because that's what real people do. So I loved that loft space for the
ability to try and do stuff like that. It gives you a chance to experiment a bit
and put some different skill things up there. But with that, we have officially
finished the full speed build, finally. Now I want to pop back into the game and show you
a tour of the finished product so you can see all the stuff that I didn't show you, but also get a
better idea of how the place looks all together. It's kind of confusing when it
jumps around this much so it's nice to have like a slow tour where
I can walk you through everything. So like I was saying earlier, I built this in
San Myshuno on this lot, the Old Salt House lot. Please ignore the cost of those
rents, that is absolutely horrifying. And this is what it looks like when you first load
in, you can see all the different units this way, uh, the basement units are kind
of bugged so that's no good. You can see them a little bit, you can kind of
get to this one sort of, but the other one I don't know how you're supposed to get to because
when you go into the basement it does that. Um, so that's not good, again, it's the rent pack, it's The Sims 4, it doesn't really
always work how you think it will. In fact, it doesn't even always work at all, but that's kind of the situation
we're dealing with right now. Oh my god, anyway I'll show you around. This is kind of what I was talking about
with the view by the way, like look at this. With the sunset as well, I would love
to live here, this is like my dream. I think that's so beautiful. But this is how the front of
the building looks so you can see we have this kind of cute treelined street. I put a couple things in like some
lights, we also have like a fire hydrant and stuff to kind of make it
look like a more realistic sidewalk. Every house has a different matching
welcome mat just in different colors. I left this far right one empty
and then put a for sale sign out in the front so it looked kind
of like it was move-in ready. And then around this side, this is where the
base basement access is so you can see we have that fake fire escape that I was talking
about, this is just an item from debug. And then when you come all
the way around this way, up towards the back we've got
the community mailbox right here. And then you can access this basement set
of stairs to come down here and this is where you go inside into the basement, so
I have two little trash cans right here. And this is kind of a basement overview. The first thing we have is
a small shared laundry room, I used this swatch that
has like a coin slot on it. There's two white swatches,
I don't know if you can tell, but one has the coin slot and one doesn't. And so I used that coin slot one to look
like a public laundry room and it's down here in the basement, they've got like
a table for folding, they've got a sink. On the left side we have the two
different front doors for these two downstairs apartments and in the way
back we have a shared gym space down here. So everybody can use this,
it's classed as a shared space. And then all of these are those little
storage units that I was talking about. This is what I mean when I say it looks kind of
like a jail cell and that is not my intention. They're actually all assigned to each individual
unit so every house has their own and you could put things like the bikes down here, the decor box
down here, extra Christmas decor, like all of that sort of stuff, maybe an old bassinet when their
kid gets older and you want to save it for later. Obviously you have the household inventory, but I think it's kind of fun to
have an actual storage space. And then this is the first unit that I did not
show you, this is that like roommates unit. So their front door is right here and when
you first walk in they've got kind of a small entryway space, it takes you into their
kitchen that's very white, pink, and green. They've got a dining table, they
have a really cute living room, they they do have a couple windows,
obviously their view is just a brick wall. I didn't give anybody access to the window wells,
they're mostly just there for the natural light, but they have a little bit of
it here in the living space, and then back here, this is the first bedroom. This one is kind of for like a
writer I was sort of picturing, but obviously it's a bit generic
so anybody could live here. And this one is for like a
fashion designer or something, again it's generic, but they have a
clothing rack and like a vanity table. And I also did this and this
was quite controversial as well. I put fake windows there and then a bookshelf and
in front of it, um, I wanted to have a curtain. I don't know if that was a
bad idea, but I did it anyway. So that's the first basement unit. Down here, this is that vampire unit
that we talked about so they've got a small kind of formal entryway, this
is their bathroom off to the right. Uh, their living space is like one big square, but they've got a dining room
a kitchen and a living room. I still put the basic necessities like the kitchen dining table because you don't
have to have a vampire live here. You could have anybody live here really, it
just maybe could also work for a vampire, just the vampire wouldn't
really need to have a kitchen. They even have food to like
lure in people, I don't know. And then this is their primary
bedroom, it's very dark, they have a nice typewriter and stuff,
and they also have a tiny kid's bedroom, it's also kind of library-esque,
but I furnished this for an infant. They also have fake windows,
I know, this is controversial. If you hate it, you can delete it,
but I thought it was nice to have the curtains so that's the whole basement space. So you come back upstairs to the staircase
and it just started absolutely pouring rain, I don't know if you can hear it. But this is the full finish back of the building, so you can kind of see more of the
little backyard areas this way too. Around the side I put things like a dumpster, we've got a little hopscotch area, but now I
want to go in and show you the interiors first. So this first unit is the one that
I did not show you in the video. I'm actually realizing now
that this was the family one. I confused the recordings, I had them backwards. I showed you half of this one and
then the end of this one, that's okay. So when you first come in we
have that formal dining room, they have things like a high
chair and a nice dining table. You come through the back and they have -- well, a really annoying clipping
mural thing, let me delete it. They have their big kitchen over here, this is
that like little half bath I was talking about. They've got some storage, a nice big living
room with some toys downstairs for the kids. They even have things like a video game console
which for some reason I never use, and you'd think that I would use it more because I'm a
person who plays The Sims every day, but anyway. They've got video games. Upstairs we've got a small
hallway and two kids rooms, this one is for like two twin toddlers and
then we've got one for two twin kids as well. The twin kid one is kind of decorated like space
themed so they have these alien skateboards, they've got stars, they have like
the space beds and the alien light. And the toddler room is just
kind of decorated rainbow themed, I kept calling It the clown room and I actually
did base everything off of this clown painting, but I think it's kind of fun, it's very
chaotic in what I think is a fun way. They have some kind of plain
yellow and blue bathrooms up here. We have that playroom I keep mentioning and
they've got toys everywhere so we have toy boxes, we've got the blocks table, we've got a little
puppet theater, we have the science table. They have this thing from Kid's Room Stuff
so they can play with the voidcritters, they've got the art table, they have this thing
for chores, and then their primary bedroom is up here so the adults will live up here and they have
kind of like a cute office space in their bedroom. This chair is from High School Years, I
totally forgot that it had this cute yellow floral swatch and it almost makes me want
to do an entire house just based on that. Imagine like a cute pastel yellow gamer house and they have like a cute floral
gamer chair, I would love this. I have like a nice office chair, but
it's you know, not cute and floral. I want this one, this one is nice. And they have a primary bathroom up here
too, so that's this whole family house. In their backyard they've got some monkey
bars and just like a table back here. Their next door neighbor is the first
house that we furnished, this is that kind of like purple and blue one, they have
that really nice formal purple dining room. I used some things in here that I never ever
use, like this swatch of this chair I despise. I don't know if I've ever used that, but
this house kind of has like jewel tones to it almost a little bit so I thought it
kind of worked with this deep colored rug. This rug is from the Decor to the Max
kit and I also never use that either. So even if you don't like it, I think that we
should at least acknowledge the fact that it's fun to try out different things because I'm
unsure of it too, but I think that it's fun. So there's their nice dining room,
they've got a kitchen here in the same place as the others and
then their formal living room. I liked this part the best, I used
these cabinets to kind of look like some sort of sideboard and
I put some decor on top. They actually have a small
closet with a litter box in here and then they have a bathroom downstairs too. When you go upstairs, it's just a small simple
hallway, we have that My First Pet Stuff kids bedroom and then that other one with the
kind of pretty fairy lights over here. And then their third floor has the cute games room with the rat and then also this
kind of pretty primary bedroom. I really liked the color scheme in here
with this bed paired with these curtains. I've never used that either,
but I thought it looked kind of nice together and they have like
an office space and a huge bathroom. This bathroom does not need to be this big. You could probably if you wanted to even
like turn that into a bedroom or something, but it wouldn't have any windows,
that's kind of the only problem. In their backyard they have a little dining table, they've got a couple planter
boxes and a hot tub down here. Imagine you're sitting in this hot tub and you've
got this view to look at, isn't that so cool? I wish the Sims cared about views
because they are missing out. Okay, and then in the middle house, this
is the one that I confused myself with, this is that kind of like
blue and dusty pink house. I don't know if this is good, it's kind of bad,
but like maybe in a fun way? It's hard to say. I don't know, I tried to be different
so they have their dining room, they've got kind of a bright kitchen. I tried to pull it all together with this tile
wall, that was kind of like the inspo here, that tile wall and then this rug, and
then I tried to mix and match everything. I like how they have a little chess table
here in the window because look at that view. I also never use these Dream Home Decorator curtains so that was kind of
fun to find a place for them. When you go upstairs up here they've
got this kind of fun teens bedroom. Did I not include this in the
speed build or did I talk over it? I don't know, maybe I cut it out. Anyway, I was talking a lot
so maybe I just didn't see it, but this teens room I kind of made sports themed. So I put like sports stuff everywhere, they
have like sports memorabilia, they've got sports jerseys, they got sports posters, they have a
treadmill, they have kind of like a gaming setup. A lot of my Twitch chat wanted
to give this kid a mini fridge, so I put a mini fridge in their room, and they
have like kind of a sports themed bed setup too. I really like how this room turned out,
I don't really use this stuff very often because it's just not really my vibe
so it was kind of fun to try that too. And then this is that pretty magical
one that I liked a little bit better. I kind of pictured two teens living in this
house so I've actually given you a complete wrong description of this building because this
one is the one that has the art studio upstairs. This house is so big, I don't even
know what's happening in my own build, but they have like kind of an art room,
they've got some craft stuff on this desk, they've got this kind of cool mood board
thing and then this is their primary bedroom. They have a nice fireplace, I kind of like
the idea of like sitting up here and reading, they could sit here and knit if they wanted to. In their backyard they have a grill and a
telescope and also a nice little fire pit. This is probably probably a mistake because
that fire pit catches fire all the time, but I liked the color of the couches
so I decided to just deal with it. And then this last house, this is
the empty one that's up for rent. This one I left empty in case
you wanted to furnish it so I left it completely blank in case
you wanted to use it yourselves. This one actually has one less bathroom
so it has a a slightly bigger space here, and they still have the three
bedrooms and the loft space. And that, my friends, is the
full, finished final product. I'm sorry that I forgot about
the own layout of my own build. I really confused myself there, but hopefully
I have remedied it by telling you at the end. And I think on that note I am
going to end this video right here. If you like videos like this, I usually
post speed builds every weekend on Sundays. I kind of call it Speed Build Sunday, so stay tuned because next week we're going
to build a castle with the new castle kit. Be prepared because I expect that that
one will also be a ginormous build, so I'm kind of excited to see how it goes. Thank you for watching and I will catch
you all tomorrow, okay? Bye everybody. Oh, if you missed it, the castle kit is
basically confirmed to be coming out on the 18th, so next Thursday. I'm
kind of getting excited about it. [ JAZZY OUTRO MUSIC ]
