[Music] [Music] we're well into our restoration project of our Massey Ferguson one-three-five this is what we're aiming for in fact I wanted to be even better than when it first came out of the factory well over 40 years ago which means I still have loads of work to do Oh Molly's back to work and all that means I better go before blasting with a lot of prep to do an engine making sure all the ports pipes and screw holes are all protected so that no shot can get into the moving part to the engine because that can cause wear and remove this exhaust manifold first sets cast iron so so now we're left with two poor tools that need air covered so we're going to take off this gasket and use it as a template [Music] better [Music] now when using the jigsaw do not cut along the outside of the line why it'll all become clear in a second the reason we didn't cut outside the line is that the wood would have extended beyond the gasket markings here and then after blasting and painting we would take this off and we would have ended up with a ball patch or round here - I'm putting sealant on the edges of the cover and I'm using a polyurethane based sealant because it won't react to paint and I put a bit of a rag in here so that sealant can't get into the port there you go snug fit so now we need to make sure that all threaded tools have an expandable bolt to protect them make sure all your exposed words are protected with duct tape [Music] need plenty of duct tape because you have loads of pipes to cover wee bit of cloth for extra protection take a couple of layers in this one don't be afraid to use plenty because this stuff is really effective just when I think that the tractor is ready for blasting whoo Bert suggests that we pull the head off the engine No why would I want to do that well just make a gap to look at the engine make sure that as as good as I thought it would be but moment when you have it that far and have gone that far let's well do these iPads in a book to keep with books and stuff from I don't get that just put them together and kick them on there and they're not keep us safe my whole only snooping into tractors Wilbert Quetta Wayne you're gonna show your edge you only have to look in the air sometimes it no I remember the first David important actor of a years and years ago but probably bought a new Ford Ferguson 19 and 44 and I get taped up but I thought I saw pop there Jack the cab I was sat and that she came on she came and iron iron wills because that was the shift off the Laura and Robert Robert very scarce you can get tires for them that's insane that's great to see all their new ones when you're near the ones I was used with take just nowadays Harley even drove all of just buttons and levers you know I belonged this has been one objectors here and we'll just left that out as well that's it that's injector there's a lot of rust nut no there's water gun here none say unto this here's some stage and tone in there as well I hope it's not water coming up now that's what the rotor cover the what cover the rotor cover rock this is the with the Cologne there you are [Music] a gasket here but that's how do you replace Donna mr. doesn't listen only mode you're not to buy discreet clean mostly that's all gummed up with wood dirt and stuff I mean on that that will rain that's this nice and clean yeah as well this is the rotor shaft that's what the call the rotor shaft it opens the valves which I'll show you later on when take the head off that's a paint that's that the oil comes up to us and lubricates the shelf and keeps it we're nice and freely yeah this is what we call a feeler gauge measures Dustin's done between the valve and the rover Camp potato has to be a certain Dustin's according to the manufacturers recommendation whether as a fit as - Tate there's an adjustment screw here yeah to adjust it to the proper Dustin's whether you want to tighten it up or listen off about now you have to set the loose to the everyone to the manufacturers recommendation for the recommended essence this should be on there so precise is that distance okay no that's a wee bit tight out there that's just not good I'd made freely on that there would she'd be going in really nice because it you have to have a person at TDC your talk hot as far as I go to set them to have to be you can't set them when the person is donor half they don't have smelt the very top came TDC on the farm stroke let's take this paper English yes remember just just just left out that's that you're taking these off you take them off a but at the time you lift off of that at the time to get them to bring them off and sort a level that's the rotor shaft there are these nuts out of it slack and listened on the reverse order they're tightened yeah so if you get me the know bleaching out there and that's what a husband off of course so we work from 18 down to one well that boy is it seen but it does the rush 1716 this one's 14 yep that one's it right by 2 that's on one so that's us now ready for these nuts screwed off how come the Bulls needed to be taken off and that sequence has to keep them that keep the head from from work oh yeah listen uh say I'm come up and a very lot of distortion on that head yeah okay so he left out that take that I am you watch your fingers go ahead as he noted the gasket stuck down here go ahead that's at night what's that take that bring it over here faint going on too bad they're just let's see if any cracks rain between the two between these two oops here that's for the head of Craig the tracks on there yeah so that seems on late there's not a lot of carbon knowing that they're night but the Stella Trevor's they're cleaned off so we'll have a look at the engine and see what that's like okay they turn the engine you can see the person's coming up and down that's really cool / you know as the favorite factory and that we smoke important this gasket here as you can see there's no signs of any water leakage between these that's the work certainly let's through that's here to keep the engine cool hmm after any Libby cracks Ranger yeah we lost growing there or we crack rain there's none on many of those places there and there's no sign of any cracks Ryan on that but they're overshoe up and thus here's cracked yes so that fellas that ancient some very good order yeah and we'll just test at them we have it that's a personnel that they talk to see and there's nothing there no we're not at all I mean you look at the cylinder liners if there was wear and that their their bare wheel up wheel edge there but out there there's nothing there that as completely free of iron there's oh yes so there's no wearing that there's no wear on their air to engine has a hundred percent so you wear right when you inspected the tractor the first time no no there's a cable work wait that confirms it there [Music] if you're restoring a Massey Ferguson there is a lot of help right there which you can't have been to not least from Massey Ferguson themselves they've introduced a tamp loss program which provides parts for older tractors and join your family have been in tractors for absolute years haven't I they have I went back to my grandfather's father my great-grandfather he started off 1800 I suppose that was my grandfather he really took the business on and progressed from there and he brought the first tractor into this area LBT 20 back in the late forties and you've been with the business what about 20 years yeah I've been in business 20 years now I have been astounded with just how how many people are interested in restoring tractors and renovating them and it and the passion they have you know it's just absolutely taking me by surprise well I mean over here everybody owns their own farm and they were all very much had to be machinery men when I really started farming and I mean when hi Ferguson he comes from northern Iran overseeing the association with Ferguson tractor is very strong here in particular but yeah I mean these people who may be his first tractor was a we forget or we grate Fergie or 135 I think you put it right the great nostalgia for the tractor and nowadays you've got people who are still using these tractors on the farm my brother-in-law still uses a t20 on on his farm and script the the cat late with it so like you've also got quite a big percentage of people being interested on restoring the tractors for the sake of practical shows and stuff and they're not farmers that's just a hobby and as you know the nostalgia factor and so is it growing or people it is it an area that is growing and becoming even bigger yeah which is because it's not just farmers are trying to restore these tractors there's people that maybe worked in the tractors and everything youngsters are you know people have just seen them around a boat and they're very familiar with the tractor and then one time they want to restore one their life to have how about there so yeah we do a lot of business no it's always increasing in because of the fact of Ferguson was too popular the Templars came by Massey Ferguson it's it's a scheme is it for tractors that are ten plus years old and to provide parts for restores is that sort of the gist of it well ten plus s as the name suggests for tractors are ten years and overrun obviously every year you could you know tractors or something becoming ten years old well it means that Massey Ferguson basically guarantee that they're going to have parts supply for those older tractors because well they realized say there's a big business opportunity there and they have a lot I mean they have a big market share and that's this particular parts of the world and it's great for us because you know we can go right back to the original trackers we can get parts for T twenties which are made in the 40s rate the way up to the most modern tractors obviously on behalf today but yeah we pray we pride ourselves meal to provide a good part service and I'm not sure we do that it's actually a really good idea because you don't want to start to be restoring a tractor and then think gosh how the heck am I gonna get this SH after this bushel or whatever you know okay what does you're wearing them for a fight thank you I also need our rocker cover on a cylinder head gasket a TV at me yeah I could just sit hold on brilliant thank you and you can see here in the wall behind me there's various 10 plus gaskets and ten plus CDs you just see there's the we ten plus mark we measure some of the head set opposed all your gaskets a cheaper option than buying the two separately oh thank you bargain excellent another ten plus label that's fantastic so I better go get stuff back to work no problem here's mark thank you [Music] so finally my tractor is ready for blasting and I feel we've reached a major milestone absolu the wings in which James have been working there no repaired blasted and ready for filling Danny I am so impressed with the wing James has done a phenomenal job on the toolbox the whole look at the ridges he's really when I don't have money they're so authentic they're absolutely phenomenal he's left away all night he's done a really good job there I see of me a law hustle and a lot of hard work despot here just needs a sleeper Fowler hey take the we lanes over where he's welded don't and we're just going to take out an out on the back back here there's a smaller hole again it's where he's been wailed not yeah if you feel it there you'll feel it the hole was just there on that Lane and we're gonna smooth out right now but they'sa pond oh yeah yeah so what we're going to use as a japón so this is basically a body repair filler yep basically as upon us as layman's terms there the way you would max am Louise as it's a golf ball right phase upon the repair for tear pieces mayor to pee with eat yeah right a piece azomite catalyst or hardener the we smidgen of that young a golf ball fact golf ball tasers are not stocks easy way of maximum they a lot of people would make the mistake you know they think themselves will go in a rush here will put more hardener and they make ago off faster that can create pan holds more pan holes than what you would normally get and it would also create shrinkage okay I wish Frank doing 3d time and you believe when we Yubel and the repair market self oh okay that's bear the next to the the way your momentum acts are okay but yet so will you give up a piece a tonight and that's all I need okay okay that's all you do is Mexican through the gap and you see the color of the AIDS appalled and starting to change yeah you see it starts to pick up up like a saamana color yeah an aunt when there's no color change them you see it's all along color away three when you can get it to that stage lots are ready to apply on to the tractor itself okay you'll see here when the areas prone spreader it's got a beveled edge oh yeah yep a lot to say to you would use to put it on to that to the one other tractor okay and you simply do this and that's her you don't want to be using too much because it means you're gonna be sanded and sanded and Sandlin are like you put on just enough to get you through because you won't have to put an order you know one other application on that again okay yeah so do you want to have a go with us all over okay yeah that's okay here just that's - no no it's not too much - no oh you see what you're doing there is you're putting on and where the hole was you're you know you're sewing on - uh-huh so what you need to do is put it on about there ah that is so much better yeah but I'm not there for you there you go why isn't it going in there now you shouldn't who don't the JD this there's something you know do that try out okay see the way you've got a hole in the middle there that's a wee bit massive it is too late just give it a nice late scrape over the top okay should I tear that off so that it's not let me clear that for y'all help you as much as economy thank you for going actually there you go use our edge there thank you ordering past nice and generally okay that's not too bad me you'll see you very much exit yeah you've left a very sharp edge there you're not going to create a lot more sound and work so you'd like to get as smooth as you possibly come from okay so if we take a back off again another look at Austin that I fell your spreader for you you go again okay so just from the top nice on the top amazing jungle down oh dear oh dear mmm is that because it's starting to said a bit that's a well we'll be setting shortly because we've been out that's quite a long well you've been out that's quite a long we should say yeah I know the age of Ponder's gone past the point of no return ah what do we do take it off again okay so you gonna let me mix this one a golf I don't play golf so the other day I loved your gang obviously I know what side the golf ball is okay I know what you need to do is clean your spreader no I'm there you never put stuff that's been touching on here back into the tan I would not would actually companies arrest your rage upon okay okay creepy you screw up the Carlist and to the a Deponia not well how am i doing well it's no bother turn a turbine a sponge kick-butt eyes what you're making us not don't mean he's been a good really grumpy whom we can all like teacher oh yeah it's slightly too much pink on the spatula so what you need to do is create that off scrape it off about push down they look how much but you need that and there okay okay are we running out of time I'm getting nervous yeah it's gonna basically that's gonna go offshore Lucas you know so what you need to do to get it onto the spreader let's grow up with a cloud there I just pulled it up okay thank you you're gonna do that's personally nothing weren't you mm-hmm seems like there's quite a lot on there now that's really really well done but unfortunately the rules here Oh sugar oh do I have to scrape it off and start again yeah yeah okay and just keep the constant price for the whole way down I'm not your whole loo there that's okay I want you to do with this disk clean clean your your spreader first mm-hmm let me here's one of them are there uh-huh what's up no make a move man I got nuts okay you can even sound a lot I don't mind that's fine that's not too bad for a beginner I find out fiddly and tricky but it is possible for an amateur to you know not matured order to tackle up that's the governor comes with about practice you know yeah I can do I've been doing it for years but anybody can do it with you know about a practice you have the next days upon properly you have to apply uh properly yeah like with s8 here where there is no access well the lanes clean you can hardly feel any lanes on it you know that's only going to take a couple of minutes to robot nice and smooth again Russ Bess hash over here it's gonna take longer to rub because you've all less all that has to be sounded or hospital Skinner you have more work you're getting yourself more work but three time you know you would bring up there anything you won't happen hopefully won't happen just as much all day a lot you know a lot less of it and it's far far easier but let's practice it's all daily practice so what we're going to do as we want to sound like that first they the way you would normally start off if it's a really bad age or you have an excess of mayonnaise upon on you will start off rolling away inaudible sounder let's say 120 or 150 desk or now that's that's 120 paper there if you feel oh yeah okay keep on about their avail 150 desk that's for the orbital sander that's breathin fainter but then you can go to the extremes of 500 gosh that's like an emery board I could do minions with that you could yeah I wouldn't recommend that very costly but yeah you could okay so we're going to start off with 120 on this here behind okay then what we're going to use as the robin block let's get a nice flat edge you can see there your soffit that's completely flat okay you open up you travel paper and Laurel speaks press are doing the tailed okay really and all we're going to do is robust by here okay yeah why I'm trying to do there is keep my blog from Granof the age of the age upon if you're doing not ever coming back into you'll create a hollow yeah okay and you're just putting a whole back end so you have a back on with a zap on you put back the Sun I need you just keep wondering that special circle so if you just keep it basically in the metal gray in a circular motion then straight motion and all sound a quarter for you okay okay now whenever your paper gets to that's full of a's upon ya so you can blew an air line but the papers use now so you're better off to just take it out and change it over again great elbow grease you're puttin in there why can't we just use like an orbital sounder what I could use an orbital sander yeah because I'm used to them but you'd have more of a tendency to do it behind an orbital sander you'll put gauges into it something like me but your content age you've a turn an orbital sander up on our tails without there and then you start it create another edge you know you're moving the age to somewhere else basically again if you're not experienced with it it's just gonna give yourself you know just leave a little effort if you feel like yourself your Phillips that's come on there that is absolutely perfect maybe the team we put primer on that that'll disappear you'll never see you again okay but the only other problem with it now is if you look into it you'll see there's small penhold right now we need the illuminator out there before we do you pray okay that's as a 1k Fowler whereas the a japones 2k that takes two parts the 1k at one part and you just applied to be on you put on the spreader like that okay you thought you were going to flex my yeah I squeezed it under the holes look so and you'll see whenever you scrape it back off all the holes are actually fell down okay oh yeah okay so all we do is give that five minutes to dry and we're sound off and that's gone busted okay and I will start on to your satyr I'll go and go grinder haha very good rape I'm just good enough a while you're shunned or not I've got something to do you okay yeah I leave you up oh okay yeah yeah yep that's great I'm away home Tina what are you going give your putter he's upon the rope-keeper over that's okay guys come on it's not gonna take that long that's what you're saying okay hey wait oh come on it's not a Isaac on dark in here oh come on the jokes over you I brought my wings here to get my tires fitted know the decision I have to make is what way I'm going to have my way centers fitted there are loads of ways to choose from I could have it this side of the fixture facing you I could have it my side of the fixture facing you I could turn it round and have it your side of the fixture facing me or I could have it back on my side of the fixture facing at you anyway the way we're going to go forward based on our original brochure is my side of the fixture facing you which will give us a 52 inch track why is this all important no come on and let me show you tractor tires are directional and because we've gone for a 52 inch track it allows us to tell Steven with certainty what way we need the tower fit it to the rim in relation to the fixture lugs right Steven let's go for it we have to decide what type of stars to go for we could go for traditional cross ply or modern radio we've gone for traditional cross ply with the Goodyear cross I car you didn't have the original diamond now these have been reintroduced in the concession to the classic tractor enthusiasts another point to make is that we bought these rims to get the tires fitted and the paint job isn't entirely finished because with the best will in the world when you're getting terra fitted it could cause a few liter script so these will go back to Danny he'll deflate the tires to give him access so that he can complete the paint job [Music] [Music] so you remember when you had will Burton's back the tractor when you got it first and he showed you the where and the and the links at the back and the left arms and that whole assembly now you can clearly see up here absolutely see the movement doesn't look like much there but when that's transpired way back to bite your own implement it's quite bad yes magnified exaggerated so he removes a pen yeah and they the not all joint you can see clearly this is worn until an oval ship oh yeah good worked over the years and we're here now at the engineering works and what we're gonna do is to drill the site and set it with a new bush it was a nice circular finish in there okay well haven't you pen me it because you can clearly see here the we're on the old pen quite bad yeah that's pretty bad and as well on this fork there all this horrible ship so we drill that out visit the new bush and everything's tightened up nicely using a carbide cutter our knuckle joint sorry milled into a circular shape to ensure proper location of the new bushes [Music] [Music] on the CNC maids are you pins are turns using en 8 state [Music] [Music] reprogramming the same machine our new bushes or turned our diplomas [Music] okay movies Nobby Harbor pen we have our novel that we have actually taken the over later on the Muller machine brilliant and we have our two phosphor bronze bushes the reason we've made them a phosphor bronze as that they'll actually wear a lot quicker than the pen well so basically what will happen will be these will wear down once the operator finds out that there were down he can actually replace the phosphor bronze brushes rally laundry piece in the pump it's more cost-effective yeah yep yeah look perfect okay now let's just shake the tongue perfect fit yep but we've actually left about a hundred or a couple of microns of clearance on it for the Xanthian why were using that basically there's a leading or stall but from rostam and prolong the life of the actual pan itself never that they're short it we're actually on to the arm itself which will be going through basically the same principle we're going to drill eight on Bush these two walls but before we start just a word of warning after you're going to try this at home is probably not a good idea because this hatch Lee has to be held exactly level whenever you're drilling the two holes F not you may find that this is actually set enough under Hall as run on earth lane down the original part also after you don't use the correct drill but what you maintained as up whenever you go to actually drill s component and made hardened effort doors hard that makes it much much more difficult to actually machine the component itself so it's probably not a good idea to take something on unless you know exactly what you're doing sometimes instead of a bad fit what you can actually get as a seized but and what people try to do is actually heat the oats a component I can remove dust pan yeah even if they do get the panic what they have a habit of doing is to drill bit and to water and cool it down quickly if we do that there will cause a hardening process which will most definitely harden not there and make it nearly impossible to work with no that's why we've called in your expert help so we'll get on with this bit then back in the paint shop design see the color red hi exciting and start [Music] and seven coats of paint later my tractor bonnet looks like can you oh wow that is just phenomenal it's all shiny and you lookin after all that panel beading in all the effort in the detail oh that is just brilliant but all worthwhile wasn't absolutely there you just wrapping it up can I take this it's brilliant well you want me to wrap off so you can take it away yeah come on up huh you'll need start okay you'll need that you're not serious okay um some paper sound paper this perfect lovely shiny vomit yes but what's wrong with it other days it looks perfect to me that's good it's really good that's fantastic but it's just not a one so if you want to live to the best and chill all come chain you I'll go get changed then listen I don't have gloves on well what about my hands my delicate hands look don't worry about your delicates harms us today like a pin we're more interested actually I agree yeah in June a sea of gloves on you'll have no Phil you know you're not you'll not feel everything in your hands I can feel more than you but that's more for the failure graph of the sand paper you're you're pushed I've done what are we feeding for like imperfections you want it to be I murdered punished animart how good a sprayer I am or others maybe yes dog half the way it sounds if you want it like glass and the way that you're rolling out there could you know could really hurt you because you're robbing with your fingertips and you'll score my pimp and that's why I would hurt you you're robbed with a flat your hand please okay sorry I I would hurt me actually after that no matter how you got a sprayer I am or others maybe you'll always get a slight orange pin no there's very very minimal orange peel on this yeah I can't see it but right but it's just dull after they got rid off a-and that's why we're we're some to take all that off mate just be careful whenever you're whenever you're doping with the palm of your hand uh-huh whenever you're Robbin all your ages here you have to be very careful not your up too much of them or I'll start a rope three and you'll see the primer back through there's plenty of coats of paint on it shouldn't happen but if you're careless I'm not careful at what happened okay that's all that's the last nail once we put a pin there big time so how long would you spend doing this that's here that bonnet all the way around polished back up again to perfection of it seven hours seven hours seven hours well nine wants affects up what you've messed up [Music] my tractor is back and it's all painted and shiny and looks fabulous and not just fills me with so much excitement however all these parts have come back from the paint shop to all these parts all these parts and they all have to go back onto the tractor and that just fills me with complete and utter fear it's so daunting of course we could have sent the tractor away with some of these parts still on it but we didn't do that why we'll take this radius on for example if we'd left this on the tractor and painted it okay this side great good job but it's going to be really awkward to paint this side as well or the front axle if we left it on the tractor these two parts would have been attached who'll build up a rust in there painting just over the rust and at some point it's going to come back out through the paint whereas we were able to separate these get rid of all the rust in here and do a really thorough job now all are not some votes have been primed to do this we took them out of our label plastic boxes and put them on some cardboard and label those as well because I cannot afford to lose any nuts and bolts even if I'm going to replace any of them at least I have these as a point of reference before you put this all back together let's just give ourselves we reminder of what we're aiming for this is what the drag girl looked like when it came out of the factory in the 1960s [Music] are you gene I'm just so relieved to be getting I'm putting it all back together yep this is the start of it quite please myself I must say because I can't can't a tire just pulled stuff up I know masks and stuff up and filling holes and one Bartley cradle fed-up accent I can take these rubber bongs don't know yeah oh yeah I think those it was written there just to protect the threads from the the pin the blasting yeah is these things are difficult enough to put the guy with they get it throughout yeah totally [Music] well I guess I would see quarterly three that's target yes how'd you feel about I think it is being much more difficult than I thought I'm kind of trying to think Roma home straight because it has been brilliant but it has been it's been overwhelming but part of that is definitely knowing your limitations you know knowing when you have to call in specialists help well I definitely find out my limitations I think yeah well I think by an a we both know our limitations don't leave um here's an example here the ins actors we took the bite before we blast it and Pintas who take them off to an injector refurbisher or an injector service engineer Azhar any specialist operations yeah he tested them on serviced them we brought them back refitted them and look they're nicely painted they're just like new perfect yep so that's that's a job for a specialist we don't do things like that no yeah okay so shall we have a look at the field time daesil great okay here we are so we're going to look at these two slots here okay onto these two screws and the tank sets on top of these robbers we'll go here the front so what we should do you think there's something on here you hold the tank yeah cuz you could scrape it yeah we don't scrape it at the stage we'll just cover up cover up this piece of cloth just to get a we better protect you and what we'll do is we'll bring the tank back I can't push it forward on to the rubbers yeah okay so if you're pushing forward I am um here holding the screws up so if I'm pushing forward I'm responsible for scraping I'm back right back nice I did bring it forward slightly then life that's that love like that time I go lovely great I'll push the ball up if you post the tank forward jump the Anneliese lovely that's okay you got it that's it there good [Music] Eugene you must have restored loads of tractors you still get a buzz when you're pulling it together and you stand back and go yeah yesterday because every tractor is different even tractors to see a model I'm fine I'm doing this here I think of it the history of the tractor and he worked at the old button put sort of characters aware and it's really more of it lay some tractors I sell I think that is brilliant that you still get that beause you know even though you've done those different models and makes and everything else cracking yeah you'll find out to an idiot next one is different the last one next one sorry before we fit the - we're just going to install the instruments I have my idiots guide the photograph that I took myself we have the fuel gauge already installed so I'll just put in the amp meter so hopefully a bit of firm pressure and location should get it in I know a tip is to put a wee bit of liquid so grind it and that will lubricate it and make it easier to get in though voila next in is our temperature gauge just make sure I get it and straight there we go just fit the bracket in the screws actually do you know what is a brilliant tip have a rule of this foam packaging nearby because when you're placing down these shiny parts you don't want to scrape them this is an absolute godsend and these screws just hand tighten good our oil pressure gauge was actually original Smith style but it was very badly corroded so we sent it away and got it all cleaned up hooray it's like a present got a painted Oh get it ah absolutely just straighten it up there [Music] I'll just fit this [Music] you may remember I was really surprised at how few ours there we're on the clock this water revelation a very honest restorer has obviously replaced this clock and put plus 2,300 RS meaning that the old clock had 2300 hours in it it's not so decent I just I laughed my head off when I saw that I thought that was so cool and it just shows you the type that restore tractors decent honest upstanding like last to be fitted should be our light switch I don't know how it happened but it managed to slip through the net and didn't get sent away to be painted so annoying but them we'll just have to send it back and get it done I'll just slip the dash all over the steering column careful not this much now it's just for boats Eugene you get the other side so you have it all six siding the first bit of red going on the tractor so they look help so look over doesn't definitely the whole thing up accurate you'll see the benefit of not tightening up all the the boats not really give you a bit of leverage sure yeah push it forward to be tiny bit more great perfect thank you got at night yeah super if this is a sign of the finish our tractor is going to have it's going to look pretty fabulous but I better not get too carried away because they're still it's great to work on oh come on Ellen we look at this look at all these new parts new spindle shaft u-bolts new bushings I'm gonna put it all back together again okay I know how could you not be excited we're going to refit the front axle with the new bushings yeah top and bottom here because they all Bush remember that was worn absolutely so I thought goes okay I spent the shaft remember the old spindle shaft yeah that was worn just inside the bush you can see the step on it here it really was like we intended to have this machined but we're advised that it was better to buy a new part because a time involved machining this it's more time labor Molly yeah so we bought a new sponge oh sure yeah from Massey Ferguson plus town no it was not exciting yeah all it made it was a cool app in the bottle at the pin-sharp that's not beautiful piece of engineering I mean it looks like a book which is lovely yep good good so the old ones not going on so first on goes the the bottom bearing with the thrust aside down down to the bottom okay okay ready to fill it on say they say the shaft right [Music] perfect fit really lovely okay so that's that's hold out there right then move it but the dust seal around the top that just keeps the dust out of the shaft yeah that keeps it well protected then it's the the Woodruff key yeah number absolutely key because a man caught with a vengence right so the wood of keys nice nice neat foot followed by the steering steering arm okay I just give out it that's almost there that's there nice yeah okay just a final top that's overlooked yeah perfect fit great okay so it's just just hold it steady and I'll put the bolt through here there we go they're complete okay so we're ready to fit it to the tractor weight and there are a number of ways to fill it here uh-huh all these all these holes give you different abstract words we're going for 52 inches which is this this hole here so do this little bit because we need to make a decision on now we were deciding on what way our wing centers our back wheel centers were being fitted to our rims so it's the same obviously at the front 26 inches this side 36 inches that side not gives you your filter so our next board good on here okay okay so in terms of width that depends on what you're working on in the feed yes yes and the sixties farmers generally worked with 26 inch potato drills so the winds travel through the drills one that's two drills between the vales 52 inches yep brilliant okay want to keep it a family they're gonna keep a sound thing good stuff this is I'm tightening this why of some of our nuts and bolts just being primed well they're not they're not lost because the spanner Radames the glass pin and rotating them so we prime it then would tighten up really tight meet Oxman with a brush and we're not damaging anything we're thanks good yeah so before we fit the front hub we have fed on you and our bearing yeah until you shell and here okay I'm down a new oil sale and then say to you then the whole hub fits onto the stub axle okay right pushes right on like that that's it okay so here's the the ITAR bearing nicely greased okay mm-hmm and it just slides in there and fits neatly against its that's inner shell its shell okay remember the washer with a extrait part on and then say okay that slides on over this tub and the covers unto the slot nice shiny new costly look not okay it goes on here okay mmm goes the ten all right I'll tell me sprout their hands but just keep it in place keep it in place like that okay there are little cap hubcap just like yay great radio as a restorer I think part of the group like I've been accepted into the inner circle I've been invited along today to a canoe in Northern Ireland to go on my first ever road rum Robert thank you so much of the invites are you doing it out of you here thank you [Music] we're on a biannual road ROM a need of the Ulster Cancer Foundation yeah and basically a few of us get together this year we went for 32 miles around about three the locality we made a DVD which were selling the funds of areas from both sponsorship the seals of the DVD all go towards Elster capsule in days [Music] how many of you are there I came out this year just a hundred and tan hundred and tan that is very impressive that must have been some sight 110 tractors along the road it was awesome [Music] good crack I mean do you think that the interest is growing I mean because as you say you thought you never would have had 80 people you'd a hundred and ten here the interest I'm amazed that they the passion that people have I'm constantly amazed by it yes I mean the first item we had was an O five we had 22 tractors and then who seven we have 58 and last time eight we had 110 on the road with and I mean it is a popular pastime during the summer months any weekend you can have your choice of five or six Road runs two or three rallies you know the are spoiled for choice because it oh absolutely [Laughter] and I can see just even from chatting to all of you you know there's there's a bouncer there's the crack as well you know watch very keen enthusiast there's you know - laughs but is good fun it's good craic you know yeah absolutely but if you help them to have their own shear the Ferguson grand your tracker you'll hear about it or if you have the wrong tires set it somewhere so monopoly up oh my goodness I mean Eugene I have really paid attention to details but I tell you what I have no doubt that somebody will pick up something and they'll definitely let us know all about it or they will say there's something that one of these beady edge picks up and it's not quite right you'll hear about it [Music] these are old brake linings which we took off our back plate now we needed to replace these because they were very badly eroded and some oil had seeped in onto them so we bought well are some new brake linings we then made a decision that as opposed to taking the old linings off putting on the new linings onto the brake shoe and lining it all up all very labor-intensive it was going to work out better to buy brand new brake shoes but then we actually discovered that it was going to be much more cost-effective to buy an entire new brake kit all assembled onto this back plate however we don't actually need this back plate because we have our original one here which is absolutely fine so we're going to reassemble all the pieces onto our tractor first the angle depends here four of them two for each brake shake they only fit the bike washers here let's just build a bit of a smear of rubber agrees on here just makes things ladies here yeah not too much because it interfered was the brakes okay nice new brake shoes just what to eat puns on through the back okay quite fiddly right so we're going to put on the retainers okay they keep on the to keep the shoes on so first washer goes on like that doom Said's toward us as towards me okay followed by the spring spring on look for the fiddly but second wash on the vice grips laying it up push it on turn it round okay waste clips off one there it is that's good okay okay last one the spring I'm down the second washer no they aren't that's the Florida Tanner right yeah so next is the top spring and it goes on like this and here and down the bottom spring fits in here followed by this little bracket that holds at the touchet's together okay it just needs for the pigments there are those okay a bit more there we are is to be better force that's two Springs everything nice and tight good now the adjuster next phase slides onto the slots like that and if I just push the shoes against it a little nice and tight and a spring that goes up and the back here you see it that it's right but there we are all right I'm Larry we're gonna pull up that in today for the hole here we go nice and tight up against the adjusting screen it's obviously meant to be right up against our chair yes I'll show you how this works when we felt that the hub right we adjust the brakes with this gray and it simply pushes the show you spill shows out close to the hub yeah because when you put your foot in the Brig you want braylee or movement to make the brakes engage yeah okay so there's a slot in the back of the bucket here now as I turn that oh yeah I can see you see the gap it's just like farming yep which pushes the breaks apart yeah push them apart to the drum and what you want is for you when you put the brake pedal day you don't want a lot of movement here you know to engage the bags for it is great it's good system and it works really well I'm not set ready for they for the brake drum just remember no pimply on side that needs to be pretty clean so that engages nicely with the the brake shoe okay so there we are line up with the two holes here they're TN the screws just push on gently oh it is brilliant to see another complete part finished yep something else doesn't we've got brand new brakes oh very satisfying good job we're going to reassemble our three-point linkage and attach our left arm onto our hydraulic cross shaft now you may remember that it only had one hole in the middle whereas our original cover plate had two holes so we sent the hydraulic cross shaft away to get especially drilled and tapped so that the original cover plate fitted onto it that is attention to detail yet again when you're attaching your left arm you have to make sure that the left is fully in the dine position so your levers here they're in the down position your left arm and this side is free moving but make sure you hear it clunk into the dime position and then you have to match up this side with that side that's actually a bit high it can be wee bit fiddly just getting it right leave it tiny smidgen I think that looks about right I'll measure it to make sure you see we have a tower washer here which we just curl over the nuts and I will stop them from migrating and you'll see this is all just primed because we will tighten up all the knots and then touch them up with paint there we go it's pretty tight there we go that's it the knuckle in let's see yeah that looks well lined up there let me just tap my pin and night just nice gentle taps I'll just take the paint off this so that it gives it a good rolling surface got the drop arm there I'll tap the pin in there we go and up come on oh gosh [Music] perfect that's nice answer those nails nice and tight well before we start up the lower link here we go ready for they're not Kathleen Kathleen up not yep just so you can drop a a.split Pantera to keep it tight oh yeah so there you go that's our linkage reassembled and I think we definitely worth the effort going to the engineer shop to UM get new bushings and pins because look at that virtually no play it's a good feeling well ah okay we're going to put the radius arm mm-hmm but we can't do that until it fit the flipped it they listen to do one of us see on time okay okay so we start with a foot pip you want to hold it the funk just by the end of it there just doubt it they're lovely and I get the back bullet in here just sweeten it up a bit click that up and then we can just drop a diet onto the floor gently oh yeah okay that's it remember we had we're here and the axle yeah so we got it drilled and pushed look at the radius arm post as well so the all the things are they fit and when you drop your gear pool in there right should everything fit nice and tight oh great zipper and that takes lots of movement of the axle and the steering yeah all right Wally yeah good good you're right mommy tight enough is it just end of the meantime I just all down the clutch just lately there's lovely that's right that's a hideous arm slides on here into the sort mm-hmm like so right just keep it that's dad okay I'll try and line this up here that's quite quite a lot of laning up today you can see I mean four different holes to say and they the hole in the hazing I think we're there just one last stop there don't know yep - hey that's good that's never coming off again no another job done though you may remember when we first got the tractor the radius arm was actually on upside down the same down here was up here we've been very clever and made sure we put the radius arm on the right way okay it's not actually that clever but I'll tell you what is a wee tip to remove paint when it gets clogged up on the threads Eugene yep simply use a half-inch ENC tap used for making threads but it's very very useful for cleaning threads course you really can't see the difference between the one you've done and on your bikes - that is brilliant job ok it's just important to get up nice and square on the threads because if you don't do this properly in dummies of threads you're wrong totally but we're all right they were lined up that's just a crisis tinker in lace and jumping [Music] I'll make sure that the lease nuns will commit assumption your data if we need them to don't corrode just some reason to thread right screen unto the whole wall please the inside ok of course of technique is I think I might affect the seat do you want to go and get up oh yeah - take care this is exciting mm-hm nice dad sleep no wait I just let it swing back Oh back there felt like it got too far not too far there's three holes here for adjustment uh-huh we'll keep it in the center to hold means suppose anybody got a oh yeah okay small tall whatever [Music] you're really getting someone aren't we yep and you have it something sat on always good brilliant she fitted our exhaust and we're going to fit her weaves and then we're going to start off our tractor my throughout this entire restoration we've gone into much more detail and we initially intended as you may have noticed in different areas we just wanted to go that extra mile for example the engine when we started it up it seemed to run really well but that wasn't enough for us we had to open it up and double-check the linkage at the back we didn't have to get precision-engineered pins and bushes but we did because we wanted to go that extra mile so it may come as no surprise that there's been a few things that have been niggling at us and this is one of those things the fuel injection pump we knew it was running fine but we send it off to the paint shop and it was only after it was painted that we felt we should have got it serviced so we did that and there that's why some of these bits and bulbs are gonna have to be touched up with paint but do you know what it was done in the wrong order and it's not the end of the world sure that's restoration for you [Music] you gonna help me put on the wheel yeah yeah you help us put it on when you put the wheels on it really starts to look like a tractor again and when you're using the socket to tighten the knots don't push it tight against the wind because you'll start to scrape your precious pin so just keep doing smidgen away from the actual [Music] we could have got a Massey Ferguson Tam clustering we but we didn't do that only because yet again were trying to stick to as many original parts as is physically possible so we sent this off to a specialist in this case David Graham from OMA who repaired it we surfaced it with a bigger like finish so we're left with this wonderful original steering wheel with the finger grips here such detail it's just brilliant job [Music] so we cushion for my state [Music] barely you need it haffley comfy after all my hard work to think it is there at that [Music] comfort with the steering wheel or now let's test the fruits of our labor oh yeah the whole steering assembly is so tight there is no where there at all after all the effort you know changing bearings and spindles and bushings it's just it's brilliant to see that is a great job now a warden the electrics you've two options if you feel comfortable with it you could do the wiring yourself using a wire loom for this tractor they're readily available or you could do what we did which was farm it out to an auto electrician who fitted our wiring loom for us I think sometimes you just gotta weigh up what do you feel comfortable with and what do you want to spend your time doing in this case I felt more comfortable letting an expert do that so I could work on other areas [Music] this is an exciting day it's early morning but you see by this afternoon I'm gonna have this tractor out in the yard doing handbrake turns after all the work I just nearly food actually just while I'm putting this lid on I should point out our radiator hose here we were going to use these modern clips but we didn't do that we went for these passivated original radiator hose clips voila [Music] just putting our oil in for our hydraulics on transmission we've let the air this field filter I know this field filter I'd out of here and they will let out of here on the pump just start priming again there we go there it is this running nice and free of air just feel okay anything keep driving that's nice okay and I can tighten this up stop yep that's it buddy that's one night oh yeah there we go that's okay there's right right I'm gonna open this injector up you jump in the tractor all right I said this I want you to turn the engine over okay just turn it over keep going okay okay okay I'm going to tighten up again okay I'll take this away and you start the engine okay okay [Applause] love it sighs a good feeling yeah like yeah excellent nice and smooth I look spot-on next to check is the PTO shaft I put it in gear and when I put my cuts down stops great fit or second one here you can see we've are cold you it in for a wiring okay Google jump lay yep okay jump Nick that's it I'm lit up under over I'm dying just lazy is I did that's almost there forward okay okay just drop the kit on first oh yeah we're doing well aren't like number two link fed it looks good it looks fantastic you see this bottlers England flying light it is like hands teeth unbelievably rare I am seriously grateful to Wilbur Crawford who gave it to us need to see the butler's there and made in England the final part of the jigsaw fitting the bonnet and have to say for me this was probably the most impressive part of the entire restoration I mean we put this bonnet out from underneath a hedge we had it panel beaten primed painted I think it just looks amazing we put our stickers on it we have our original chrome medallion just put a sticker on this like this is made of metal others the news bar here at the front now if you went to buy a replica today these would be plastic so I'm so pleased or we have the original and they're made of metal now all we have to do is fit our light on this side here now we have our original callings aluminium so all we have to do is fit our lamp now interestingly enough we were able to buy this replica replacement from Massey Ferguson the only thing about it is is that bottlers is spelled BV on this replacement as opposed to be use obviously how it should be spelt on a the original light came with our bonnet when we find it so we went and got this glass original butler's glass and it's spelled correctly here and I had to drive for hours to get this but you know what for authenticity reasons we definitely think it's worth it and I'm getting nervous and holding it so I'm going to put a dog what we're going to do is just replace it here on the lamp so I'll just take this off so that's our replacement glass on a new reflector and we replace the reflector in this existing light that was with the bonnet it's all I need to do now [Music] [Music] we're nearly finished about to fit the bonnet and then this is what it should look like this level Ryan screwed up keep up Weaver up power down the phone daddy you're safe that's we're nearly there [Music] forward okay lovely almost there I said he was the baller on it just looks great oh that is a good job done I am so pleased with that ah there can't be that much more to do nice you there no that's just the finishing touches you see in your brochure here Emma Louise the content and say that contained downside of the wing yeah now we have fitted out to our wing die on the inside there's just a point about that they will conduct that the kumite gives flavor April and hard and possible to refit or you can't buy this it's no longer available in the market so what we do is we improvise with a 15 mil plastic water pipe and just with a little bit of persuasion with it with the heat gun a hairdryer or even hot water we can get it for them nicely around the rounded corners what did you get that would you invite us in any plumbers plumbers the flier that says I take plastic plastic water pipe and it looks pretty you know I mean it just looks the part that's yeah that's uh works perfectly I'm finally we're applying our deck house now you're on the home straight what you don't want to do is rush this procedure do not peel the entire back of the deck out off because you'll have the adhesive on your hands when you go to put it on if you just smack bang it on there is no for maneuver and you're more likely to get bubbles and creases sooo a little tip is just peel back a small amount off the deck I'll pull that back so you just have a small amount of the adhesive showing oh yes and also even in our original Massey Ferguson brochure we find slight variations where you can put the decals and that's on just one tractor unbelievable so now you're going to do this just by I judge it Eugene does that look strips over but the rival we got the wave on there yes about dad on the left that's looking good and you can see in the benefit of not having taking the entire sticker off because I can just do it slowly no and another tip is to use a flat applicator so that you can push out any creases or bubbles as you go along I don't really seem ridiculously slowly but I just don't want to get it creased or bubbles or anything brilliant that's really it really it's really well done yeah you take your time you did it right so that's it done there's nothing to stop me getting like driving at night right come on it's all yours honda's I could dream [Music] seems like a lifetime ago real a soul over you can run the tractor and no look at the transformation I I am so so happy with it I didn't think I'd be this ecstatic water is just brilliant so please don't you have ready please what a such a change some of them you know if you look at the brochure and compare the pictures in the brochure with the tractor here you can see differences you know then all the pictures in the brochure aren't the same exact differences some differences but it's very good necessary I found think you had a hit job congratulations I'm sure you're very pleased wealthy nice absolutely oh thank you the course of times you could have taken the easy route but we didn't do that you know you two kept me right and we're saying keep it authentic you know go that extra mile and take the extra time and I'm really really pleased I took your advice and I did go to extra lengths and keep it so authentic and I'm just overwhelmed [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] when I first started out I didn't fully get what restorers were all about now look at me I've come to a scrapyard I couldn't help myself to take a wee look attractors I mean I'm not buying anything I'm just having a wee look I don't find anything fiercely maybe I have been bitten by this bug even a bit of moss wouldn't put me off nice Wow Oh a gray Ferguson looks like a 1949 bit aware there huh yeah right we're going to do this one no there see guys will do this one it'll be fun lads clone guys come on guys [Music] you [Music] you you
