today we're gonna look at one of the most straightforward keystrokes that I'm using every single time I do an edit there are a couple of modes within this keystroke first of all we're going to look at the standard mode which has no ripple function at all press shift and then you're gonna use either one of the square brackets just here and it trims the clip up to the point that the playhead is at if you play clip out a little bit and then say just there it trims the end of that as well so that's a very quick easy way just and either the left square bracket or the right square bracket and that trims either end of your clip let's undo that now there are couple for other ways this will actually function so if now we have multiple Clips sitting together and you're playing out without the ripple function enabled if you stopped just there and do the trim you actually find that there's a gap now in between those two clips that can be useful but most of the time it's better if the two plaits just ripple up next to each other and delete that gap at the same time so here you're going to enable that function by pressing T and then when you play out when you get to the point that you want to cut you can just press shift and then square bracket and it ripples everything at the same time now if you are within a time line with lots of other Clips all those cuts will also ripple along to meet that new edit point as well now this works both ways so if we were to go backwards and say we're just there and we used the right hand square bracket now it'll ripple everything up to that at a point on the clip which is in front if you wish to switch back to the normal mode where there is no rippling press a and then again you can do that within any of those functions and it won't ripple it's worth saying that you can do this while you're playing so that works just fine and it works just fine if you're playing and have the ripple function enabled as well I just paused in my example so that it's very clear what the function is doing it it doesn't get confusing because the clips also rolling at the same time so this is really straightforward it's equivalent to the Q and W cuts if you're coming from so it's something which I'm using all the time just as a really quick easy way of forming up my edits
