[Music] hey guys casey ferris here i make videos on davinci resolve here on youtube today we're talking about keyboard shortcuts how to make them how to save them all of that kind of stuff let's go here i am in the edit page of davinci resolve and i want to share with you a couple of my favorite shortcuts the first one that i really like to change is split clip by default that's ctrl backslash that just splits a clip into two pieces i like to map it as s for split so how do you remap things in the upper left hand corner under davinci resolve click on keyboard customization and that brings up this really nice keyboard customization screen so up here at the top you have a picture of a keyboard and you can just select whatever key you want and it will show what it does here on the left this is great for just learning keyboard shortcuts on the right here you can actually search based on whatever you're trying to do now a note and this messes me up all the time right here where it says commands make sure to click on all commands because it's not going to search everything unless you have this selected and i have gone crazy from not selecting this so select that and then you can search split and that will bring up whatever's mapped to split clip right now which is control backslash and i mapped it to s as well to add a keyboard shortcut all you do is click in this box on this right hand side here and then just type whatever you want it to be so s sounds great hit save close that the other things i like to map are ripple beginning and ripple end to playhead really what this does is take either side of the clip depending on which button you hit it grabs this side of the clip and trims it to your playhead like this and then it grabs everything in the timeline and moves it down and it does that all at once so check this out by default this is ctrl shift left bracket and that's what it does instantly so let's say we want this clip to end right about and here ctrl shift right bracket does the same thing but at the other side so that's really cool but it takes two hands on the keyboard and we ain't got time for that so what i like to do is map the left bracket shortcut to q and the right bracket shortcut to w so again up here in keyboard customization under all commands type end to playhead and under ripple we'll see end to play head which is ctrl shift right bracket i just map that to w and same thing start to play head map that to q so now i can go through here and i can quickly trim this just by hitting q and w q w q w and i can really quickly just go through and make a rough cut pretty cool and if i combine that with s which is actually right below q and w i can pretty quickly just s and then trim out parts in the middle as well super cool so those are the main ones that i use in the edit page i do have one more that i use in the cut page click on cut if we click this button right here the middle icon in the upper left hand corner of our viewer this brings up our source tape which is great for buzzing through a whole bunch of different clips which i only have one clip but what i like to do is set my in and my out but what i'm often doing is appending this at the end of the timeline so i'm just throwing this at the very end so if i'm making like a rough cut from a bunch of different clips here i'm just throwing clips at the end i could go way over here and hit this button append at end but what i like to do is map that to p on the keyboard so i can just hit p and it's right by i and o so i can just hit i o p i o p and i can really quickly build my rough cut here and man it goes fast again up here is just called under all commands append to end of timeline by default it's shift f12 i just made it p so let's say that we have all of our keyboard shortcuts set the way we want i can go up to davinci resolve under keyboard customization and here in the upper right hand corner under these three dots you can save this as a new preset and you can even import or export presets so if i export this i can save that out to a file and use it on a different system or just keep it safe whatever i want to do and then of course to import it you just select import and find the file so there you go that's keyboard customization in davinci resolve if you want to learn more about just workflow and how editing and everything works i have this video right here that goes over all of the editing workflow inside of resolve it's tasty i think it's super helpful actually yeah keyboard shortcuts workflow synergy synergy
