if your see 144 see 134 or p160 for hydrant is leaking from behind the handle you may be able to resolve the issue by simply tightening the valve stem cap if tightening the valve stem cap does not stop the drip you may need to replace the graphite packing under the valve stem cap with part number c13182 not open the valve for the duration of the repair to replace the graphite packing you will need to first remove your handle then unthread the screw and pull the handle toward your body after removing the handle and screw remove the valve stem cap leaving the stem inside along with the stainless steel washer next remove the graphite packing it is possible that the graphite packing could be lodged inside the valve stem cap once the old graphite packing is removed replace it with the new packing place the valve stem cap back over the stem by threading it on to the valve body tighten the valve stem by hand plus an additional quarter turn with a wrench finally reinstall your handle into place your hydrant should function properly after this repair with no leaks visit www.michigan.gov/mstep
