today we're going to dive into the Lenovo Legion go and see what kind of performance we can actually get out of it I'll show you my settings first off and then we'll take a look at a number of games that show you what this device is really capable of now it is true that the device has a ton of issues when it comes to their software but the performance has really increased since the BIOS and drivers that the system originally launched with Lenovo has been doing a great job of keeping the community updated on issues being resolved and updates coming out let's move on to the meat and potatoes of the video now welcome back to my channel my name is Randall and watching Tech Stewart first thing we're going to do here is I'm going to show you some of my settings I'm using to get these results I'm using the 780m beta drivers from amd's website which you can find here I'm using the V28 beta bios which you can also get from the website here as well I've updated my vram in the beta bios to 6 GB another thing I've done is I've removed a ton of bloat Weare using bloat pilot to hopefully reduce CPU processing I don't think it's really that necessary honestly I didn't see much gain from this but I did it anyways and so I'm notating it here I've disabled the vary rate option in AMD adrenaline lastly I've toggled off the memory isolation as well and core isolation that's it nothing too crazy all right now that's out of the way let's look at our testing and get an idea of what FPS you can expect with these settings I've mentioned and different configuration scenarios we're going to go through for those of you who don't know you have a menu button on the right side of the handheld that allows you to change settings and configurations for gaming the ones we are specifically reviewing today are the thermal mode settings and the different resolution options that we have such as 1280 x 800p 1920 x 1200p and lastly 2560 x 600 16 00p we will also be adjusting the refresh rate in some scenarios unfortunately we only have the option to change it to either 60 HZ or 144 HZ 144 HZ is the max refresh rate for this device though I know that in the future Lenova has stated in their update post on linging community that there will be an FPS limiter added as well in a future update the only other things we are going to mess with here are in game one thing to note is that the OS I'm just going to leave on efficiency mode hoping that it will give me the best possible performance for our GPU I'll be using MSI afterburner to review my FPS as we play through this is really my first video where I dive into the performance like this so if there's anything else in addition you like to see in the future just let me know down in the comments let's take a look at our first game here cyberpunk 2077 cyberpunk has the ability to run a benchmark in settings uh while you're configuring in your game graphics and your display settings so we're going to take a look at that first and run a few test scenarios for this one we're going to set our resolution at 800p our refresh rate at 144 HZ and TDP to Performance mode our in-game settings I've chosen to set on low and most of these games will all be on low to medium settings as we go through this we do have in-game FSR 2.1 enabled as well as we play through this you're going to notice that the first part of the scene moves through a bar into and then makes its way Outdoors indoors there are a lot of NPCs which cause a hit to the FPS but as we move outside to the alleyway you'll see FPS increase a little bit and start to level off as we move to the open courtyard area of the city as you can see here we are getting 60 frames per second with our minimum being around 38 and our maximum being around 87 frames per second this is definitely not a bad start next we're going to leave our resolution at 800p our refresh rate at 144 HZ and our TD PP we're going to set to custom so we can adjust it to 30 W let's take a look now and see what we get I won't show you the full clip but just the last section you can do that by raising our TDP to 30 Watts from the performance mode TDP of 20 watts we've gained just around 12 frames per second just by making that one change this obviously has its downside as it will start to drain the battery a little bit faster I think you should see between uh an hour and a half to 2 hours of game time if you were to play it this setting personally I think the performance mode of 20 wats would be better if playing at 800p just to get a little bit more battery life out of it we will move on to looking at 1200p and I have a surprising result that I'll share with you shortly we're going to set our resolution to 1200p our refresh rate I've left at 144 Herz the TDP is already set at 30 Watts from our last test and again we're running the low in-game settings the results here are about what I expect at 40 frames per second with the minimum at 30 frames per second and the max at 59 frames per second not bad for 1200p settings on the legion go so let's move on to our next game I've recently been playing Hogwarts Legacy a bit so thought it would be fun to show off here I will say though that this game it's not the most optimized but I'm I'm not using any mods to increase performance for this our F first test involves setting the resolution at 800p refresh rate is at 144 HZ and TDP is set to Performance mode at 20 watts we have FSR 2.1 enabled for this game as well with our preset set to the recommended which is essentially the low setting you'll start to see as I run around the castle here that we average between 80 to 90 frames per second and the quality is actually still really good now let's move over to a dueling squids with a couple of ashwinder soldiers and see how we do you can see that the performance does start to dip to the mid-60s in this area and because of the denser vegetation and fog you do see a massive uh FPS drop in the sequence which I haven't seen too much of in this game so I think this is just a rare occurrence I actually didn't expect these two soldiers to be that good and surprised when they had the their Shield up but we made it work even if it was a bit sloppy throughout the duel we end up staying in that mid 60s range for frames per second once we have pop up on our broom we get above the trees and get back up to that 70 frames per second area this test is really a good one where you can see the FPS in multiple environments of the game now let's leave it in performance mode for TDP but increase our resolution up to 1200p and see how we do everything else including the in-game settings will remain the same except for the resolution we're going to now run through hogsmead I will say that in 1200p this game is absolutely stunning I definitely didn't imagine this game looking this good on a handheld but damn it really does you can see here as we run around around we are between 50 to 55 frames per second which is still really good if we were to go back over to the same Forbidden Forest Area we would most likely see this drop down to around 40 to 45 FPS but it's running pretty well in town here now let's leave it at 1200p and up our TDP to a custom 30 WTS this should increase our FPS so let's see what happens we are getting much of the same here with getting closer to that 60 frames per second on average so just a marginal increase here when using the 30 W TDP at 1200p it's such a beautiful game though isn't it I mean I really have been enjoying this one moving on to our next game let's check out Spider-Man remastered and see how this game plays on a legion go with the previous driver in BIOS this game weirdly struggled for me I don't really know why to be honest with you it's doing a lot better with the beta bios and Driver we have now and I'm sure the newest updated bios some driver that was just recently released would be good as well let's first test the game at 800p resolution 144 HZ refresh rate and using the performance TDP of 20 watts in-game settings are set to low with FSR 2.1 enabled just as a side note in most cases if FSR isn't available I'm opting in for that ingame rather than the rsr option in the legion go menu settings if FSR is unavailable then I'll test out the rsr and see if it works for hurts my performance as we swing through the city here you'll see that we are getting somewhere between 45 to 50 frames per second with it really dipping low to the high 30s and mid-50s on the high end overall not too bad and oh my God does this game look freaking good on the legion go I'm not really a massive Spider-Man fan in general but the Spider-Man games by Insomniac they're incredible one thing to note with this game if you change settings through the legion go menu for the resolution you might encounter some aspect ratio issues I'd suggest closing the game changing the resolution and then relaunching it if you intend on messing with the resolution let's now take it up to 1200p resolution with a custom 30 W TDP and just see what we get with this you'll notice that we end up getting around the same between 40 to 50 frames per second on average with these settings which is really nice but most likely uh need to be plugged into into a charger or a battery pack just to be able to enjoy this for a longer session you should probably get around uh 2 hours of play time maybe just a hair shy of [Music] that the next game we're going to play is one of my personal favorites and it's probably in the running for most people's best game of all time and that is Elden ring first off let's start a testing at 800p 60 HZ refresh rate and in the performance mode set the tdb at 20 watts we're going to set the ingame settings to the low preset I honestly didn't even realize until I looked it up that Elden ring is capped already at 60 frames per second on PC that's a bummer I've read There is a mod around this but I've not utilized it yet the performance was really good for this test though so um it really just the quality for me was lacking at that 800p the character models they just don't have enough shading and overall just didn't feel like the game graphically uh was that nice at 800p let's now take it up to a 1200p resolution and see if we can get better quality visuals and then also change it to the custom 30 W TDP and see what we get ingame settings are still set to the low preset you still end up getting between 55 and 60 frames per second with this which isn't bad at all it dips a lot closer to 50 frames per second than we did at 800p in performance mode now let's increase it all the way up to 1600p which I haven't done for the games in this list yet 1600p 30 W TDP and medium set settings in game uh for the graphics probably shouldn't have shown this off at medium and in this game preset but you know what oh well let's just do it you'll notice that we are getting right at 30 frames per second with this highquality resolution it's actually really cool it looks really good honestly I definitely didn't feel while I was using it that I was losing that much even though it clearly was uh with it only going down to 30 frames per second I would really like to get over that going down to low setting still at 1600p gives us a little bit higher frames per second I've gone and reset this to 1200p just to see if we can play at a higher in-game preset at this resolution but still get better performance than we did at 1600p by doing this we get between 35 to 40 frames per second so just slightly better but still with improved visual quality in my opinion dropping it down even further to medium settings at 1200p you'll end up getting between 40 to 45 5 frames per second which I think is enough to play this game and the resolution still looks absolutely stunning and the last game that we're going to touch on here today is Hades and we're just going to do something brief because Hades is one of those games actually where you can uh really turn down the TDP level and still get really excellent performance so we're going to start out with the power saving mode believe it or not I just went all the way up and see you know how what it does on you know some of the best settings um I I did set the uh OS to balanced which honestly I probably could have set it to uh efficiency in this one uh situation and got a little bit better but it is what it is um 144 HZ refresh rate, 1600p for resolution you can see here that we are hovering around that high 80s to low 90s with this setup then just by changing it to Performance mode we're still going to get close to150 frames per second which is a huge boost for a 5 TDP difference at least in my opinion going down to 1200p and power saving mode we end up getting around 110 to 115 frames per second while playing which is still really good honestly I don't think there is anything else really to see with this one I think I would probably personally play it at 1200p most of the time I mean you could play it at 1600p with the higher refresh rate and also probably the uh battery saving mode or even the performance mode if you want to but as you can see we get really good performance out of the games like these all in all I'm pretty impressed by the performance of this device getting over 60 frames per second in AAA games on a handheld device is extremely pleasing and rewarding as a consumer honestly it's a holy crap moment where you actually do consider moving away from your Xbox your PlayStation or even a gaming PC and make a full-time switch to a handheld I'm sure other people have felt like this now now with the Rog Ally but I obviously don't have that device the performance you get out of the Z1 extreme with a good display it's a win-win right now for consumers that goes for all of us actually whether you are new to gaming or have years and years of experience if you're doubting the performance of the device you should stop that now with the new bios and Driver update that Lenovo is currently offering you should be excited about the future of this device as long as we continue to get support from Lenovo I see this just getting better with time unfortunately I don't think our battery life is going to improve that much if at all but if you buy this device be prepared to have it plugged in with a high-capacity battery Bank ready at all times in my testing here today the additional gains you get from using the performance mode at 20 TDP or even the custom mode at 30 TDP it's well worth the additional frames per second you get I love being able to play at 1200p on this device at 20 TDP it's definitely the sweet spot for me in most games and I'm really enjoying it h I'd love to try Custom resolutions between 800 and 1200p if that becomes available at some point it could make a huge difference I saw that there's someone on Reddit that has a file you can add for it but I haven't tried it myself yet big shout out to all of you watching the video today don't forget to like And subscribe if you enjoyed the content we're growing we just passed that 2500 subscriber Mark and I'd love to get that even higher as we continue along this journey I've been thinking a lot recently on a name change for my channel but I'm pretty nervous about it and how you're all going to take it I don't think you really care that much about the name but you never know at this point I think it would be good to steer my channel towards only gaming content and I want my channel name and the brand to reflect that let me know what you think keep it change it let me know in the comments below that's all for me today guys I'll see you in my next one bye
