Police Rookies - Are you Ready?

[Music] welcome back today we're going to the Toledo Police Academy out of Owens Community College we have our current class getting ready for graduation so we're gonna go in here and see what they're doing officer Taylor's gonna meet me here shortly so let's go check them out left left right left left Thanks is it up I pledge allegiance to the united states somewhere what was the Academy experience like for you I could give up advice it was pretty tough I thought the physical conditioning us I'm pretty good shape for but and it was a pretty tough problem 30 weeks what are you most looking forward to I just get my career started hit the road and just see what happens why was the Toledo Police Department you know a career aspiration for you fool ourselves in the military so I was overseas a lot I wasn't able to see my kids there here in Toledo so this was a good way to still be at home answer what was the Academy experience like for you I went through a previous blue scanning and how I feel now leaving this Academy I feel well extremely more prepared anything else you want to say we are at Bowser high school with class 64 as they start graduation officer Dumas ruined my life for seven months and he's still doing it now it's not fair hey guys officer dungeon we are at by was your high school with class 64 as they are about to make the transition from police cadet to police officer so graduation guards in 20 minutes how do you feel right now nervous what are you nervous about hope I don't trip and fall right what are you most looking forward to about being a Toledo police officer came to go out and learn the community more streets so steer everything the whole time yeah you just get like that yeah resident graduation is about to happen how you doing it nervous don't want to fall having a terrible but other than that just excited to get through this process what are you looking forward to most I want to help people that's why I signed up to do this I'll look forward to getting to know my community better and take care of the people that I serve Jimmy one more question yeah hammer turkey sandwich ham or turkey yeah turkey absolutely very good very good feels good its excited together what was the worst part of the Academy OC chemicals terrible yeah nobody likes that interests the worst it's very how did you cry no but I definitely had most likely growl growl with GPS most afraid of officer Dumas [Music] please make standing for the national anthem which we perform are very cool oh say can you see me [Applause] once you get that bill creating these at low temperatures get out upon your police car look around there please get to know where the laborers good they're play football basketball of kids visit schools get involved as much as possible once the folks want to care they will open up to share custody issues with em I mean this from the bottom of my heart I couldn't be proud of all Asians [Applause] [Music] to your boat [Music] [Music] [Applause] so sergeant Tony and I are gonna head out to the catalyst one and speak to a couple of the probationary officers and then I'm gonna be back out there for their first nighttime scenarios we're gonna do three days of daytime scenarios and then we're gonna have whoo not time because it's actually a lot different patrolling at night we put a lot of time and manpower into this vlog so I hope that all of you all enjoy it hey so I'm here with officer lon Woodard he's a full training officer you've been a filtering officer since its inception of many years ago how many years of service 34 so since you've been an FTO since the inception of the program how has it changed from then to now it's evolved tremendously the program has grown so much it's undescribable you had to be here from the beginning when the first was implemented you have any support now with the deputy chief supporting it's an excellent program okay so looking back would you do this career all over again yes I would and it's it's an excellent career a lot of pitfalls and police work but I would definitely do it again I would recommend it I actually kind of loved it alright I'm here with officer Martin so how'd your Academy experience go it was really hard but I'm glad it's over and ready to hit the streets and work hard so we have fill training scenarios or starting or at 8 o clock how do you feel about that I'm a little nervous I don't know what to spec but I'm gonna try to do my best one last question before we get to let's get back to class yes sir mustard mayo now I'm with the officer madam Warren who was one of my filtering officers a lot of hard work yes it's actually programmed a lot of the FTO program do you mind given our audience overview of what the FTO process is our FTO program consists of four months within those four months they rotate this month to month they're graded on the 18 performance categories every day driving skills or port writing officer safety tactics traffic stop suspect stops etc basically on everything you can think of about being a police officer they're graded on and then once they're done with that program they are put on probation until the graduation date of the year they graduated the Academy and then they'll be released two solo patrol heard you use a term cop brain can you explain that yeah cop brain you as a police officer when you go to a call have to look for certain things be aware of certain things notice certain things make decisions based on people's actions how they doing officer veyts they're doing okay we're gonna we're trying to work out some kinks here do we get snow days no snow days with TPD no snow days how they doing officer neighbors as expected they're new they're gonna get better that's what we're out here for so we'll have some good critique after the stops over and hopefully they are they learn from this and they carry it over to the next Center the three you come back here leave the fourth guy into the car with the gun he thinks all running on they nobody puts it out over the radio your partner was in foot pursuit and his Congress stood here and kept doing whatever
