greetings everyone hope all of you are having an absolutely fantastic day we are back again with more Pathfinder Wrath of the righteous let's get into maggots the class that lets you wield a weapon and dish out touch spells with equal Effectiveness we've already reviewed these mechanics in my 25 Base Class mechanics video so I'll just come out with it and let you know I ranked this class of b a couple of archetypes are clearly superior but they also are very different so there's still a case for using this class the first archetype is Arcane writer you lose spell recall and improve spell recall which significantly impacts how many spells you can use per day you also lose all three ranks of maggots bonus Feats but instead you get a new version of bonus feeds which includes all the mounted Feats as well so there's no real loss here you also lose medium and heavy armor proficiency but this is irrelevant since you'll be mounted on your pet and the Pet's Armor class is what enemies will have Target speaking of which in exchange for these losses you gain a pet right at level one you must choose either a horse or a black horse which is unfortunate since it doesn't have the tripping abilities of the wolf or dog the advantage of a horse is that you can mount it right at level one whereas most pets require that you wait until level seven pets are fantastic so obviously this is a huge advantage in addition to this all of the abilities that spend Arcane pull points will also apply to your Mount this again is a big deal since some of these will significantly help your mount in melee combat at level 7 you gain the ability to spend one point from the Arcane pool and as a move action teleport anywhere within a 30-foot range a lot of the tough Encounters in this game revolve around meat Shields blocking your progress to protect powerful backline casters that launch devastating spells against your party being able to teleport both you and your Mount into the exact best position with just a move action is a big deal at level 14 you can do this as a swift action and it will automatically haste both you and your Mount this is bananas the haste effect is irrelevant because more than likely your entire team has already hasted but being able to teleport anywhere on the map as a swift action means you can then immediately execute a full action on any nearby enemy I rank this class in X again positioning is everything in this game and this class lets you blow up an enemy's backline pretty much at will on top of that it loses very little of what the Magus has that would actually help this play style next on the list is armored battle mage you lose full access to your Arcane pool and instead it's replaced with a mechanic will walk through in a bit you also lose all rankings of spell com bad and two rankings of magus Arcana which is a huge blow to this class's ability to deal damage in exchange for this you can wear medium armor starting at level 1 instead of at level seven in addition your Arcane pool is changed so that it can only be used to enhance armor instead of weapons same usual rules apply it can provide an armor enhancement bonus up to plus five or you can convert the bonus into other effects such as fortification or spell resistance starting at level 3 you gain 4 rakings of Armor training which is going to increase your Armor's dexterity bonus while reducing your armor check penalty this is especially useful since you gain heavy armor proficiency at level 7 instead of level 13. overall I give this class A D in my opinion Wrath of the righteous is a game where the best defense is a fantastic offense this class sacrifices a ton of offensive capability to make armor more effective for you even if what you really want is an armored Arcane Caster there are much better options than this next up we have eldrick Archer you lose access to Counter-Strike which completely makes sense considering this class attacks strictly at range in exchange you get rain spell combat which allows you to cast spells to your ranged weapon the same way a Magus can do it through a melee weapon at level 2 you get rain spell strike which functions in the exact same way as spell strike except you use a ranged weapon instead of a melee weapon I rate this class to b-plus you keep everything that is great about Magus and just apply it to ranged weapons I think this works a little bit better than the bass class because you do not have to consider defensive abilities nearly as much next we have eldrick Scion you lose spell recall and improve spell recall which again greatly impacts how many spells you can use each day in addition improves spell combat is pushed from Level 8 to level 14 and greater spell combat is pushed from Level 14 to level 18. this loss Will to some degree impact how effectively you can cast such attack spells in exchange for this we gain a bloodline which will provide you with additional Feats spells and abilities Bloodlines are awesome so this is definitely a nice addition on top of this your casting attribute changes from intelligence to Charisma and you cast spells spontaneously instead of memorizing them in and of itself this is not a reason to celebrate the real draw is if you combine this subclass with the scale fist monk subclass this will let you add your charisma modifier to your armor class which could be very impactful if you invest in that attribute I rank this class of b-plus it doesn't work that well if you take it up to 20 which hurts its ranking despite this what a small investment in monk this class really shines and it's a lot of fun to play next on the list is hexcrafter you lose spell recall and improve spell recall which as I've said before negatively impacts your spell rotation in exchange for this you gain all spells as spell level 6 or lower that had the curse descriptor this is irrelevant because as a Magus you should not be cursing enemies you should either be buffing yourself or damaging opponents so this is useless at level 6 you gain the first of five ranks in hexar Kana which allows you to choose a hex in place of a Magus Arcana as your level increases you will gain access to more powerful hexes this is also useless because most taxes revolve around debunking enemies which we don't want to do the hexes that do buff you have very short durations that require you use a move action to extend them obviously we don't want to do this because that prevents you from using a full action to decimate enemies ladies and gentlemen we are finally here I know many of you have been waiting for this and I deeply appreciate your patience finally we have our first F ranking for our class hexcraft doctor is absolute pure garbage and I cannot recommend you stay away from this class strongly enough next is spell dancer the else specific class you lose the ability to use your Arcane pool for weapon enhancement which is obviously deeply impactful you also lose one rank of bonus combat Feats which definitely hurts a class that was already feet starved finally you lose medium armor and heavy armor proficiency which also hurts the class but you get something else to make up for it in exchange for this you gain spell dance which let you use a swift action and points from the Arcane pool to give yourself a Dodge bonus to AC against the tax of opportunity and an enhancement bonus to your movement rate for one minute this bonus steadily increases as you level up at fifth level while in a spell dance you can as a swift action cast blur or haste on yourself more than likely somebody on your team is regularly casting haste but the blur effect is definitely welcome keep in mind this buff will only last for one round so I don't really consider this a useful upgrade at level 9 during the spell dance you can teleport as a swift action positioning is huge in this game so being able to teleport anywhere you want without using a spouse slot is definitely welcome finally at level 13 you can cast freedom of movement as a swift action I have played through this game twice on core and have never casted freedom of movement that spell was a must-have in King maker but in Wrath of the righteous as long as you have properly prepared beforehand it's really not necessary I am not sure why that's the ultimate mechanic of this ability in addition to all of this you gain Arcane movement at level 5 which adds a competence bonus to your mobility and stealth checks when you cast a spell this is irrelevant since getting high ranks in those skills is not difficult at all not to mention Magus doesn't even have stealth as a class skill at level 7 and 13 you will gain a bonus of up to plus four to your Armor class as long as you are wearing light or no armor more armor clients for Melee character is always nice so this is a welcome addition overall I give this class A C because I consider it worse than the bass class and I don't think there's a compelling reason to choose it the teleportation effect is definitely nice and plus for the AC is welcome but you are sacrificing too much to get there quick note before we review sword people I really appreciate all of the support last on the list is sword Saint you lose Proficiency in light armor medium armor heavy armor and martial weapons so this class can only use Simple weapons you also lose Marcus Arcana and true magaz which impacts what Buffs you'll be able to apply to yourself finally you lose spell recall and improve spell recall which negatively impacts how many spells you can use per day in exchange days for all of this you gain a weapon focused feet for your chosen weapon right at level one that's a very nice plus one bonus to attack rolls and it opens up other Feats that are very useful for Melee character to have you are also able to add one point of your intelligence modifier per class level to your armor class this is definitely helpful since intelligence is your casting attribute and you would need to devote points into it regardless at level 4 you get perfect strike which lets you use a point from your Arcane pool to maximize your weapons damage so basically if you successfully hit you don't have to roll for damage you'll automatically do the highest amount possible this doesn't apply to Critical Hits however you can spin two points from your Arcane pool to increase your weapons critical multiplier by one this is a big deal and can turn into a significant amount of damage even when you don't crit at level 7 your initiative roles uses both your intelligence and dexterity mode of fires High initiative is huge in this game especially at later levels so this is very nice you gain the fighter training ability at level 7 instead of level 10 and it counts your sword Saint level -3 for fighter Feats this will make it easier to pick up weapon specialization and its upgrade which when combined with the Mythic version will significantly increase your damage at level 9 you can add your intelligence modifier to critical hit confirmation rolls and use your Marcus level in the place of base attack bonus to qualify for feeds both of these are definitely useful to you as you make the slow climb to level 20. at level 11 you get additional attacks of opportunity equal to your intelligence modifier and this Stacks with the combat reflexes fee a tax of opportunity are very important for any Melee character because a lot of enemies like to run past your front line to the back line if your front liners don't punish enemies for doing this they will absolutely tear your casters and Reigns characters apart part all melee characters should have outflank which triggers an attack of opportunity where one of them does a critical hit characters only get one attack of opportunity per round so you need to figure out how to give them more so that outflank can be triggered and wandering enemies can be punished in the same round the easiest way to do that is taking combat reflexes and this ability Stacks with defeat or you might even consider not taking the feat even though this upgrade doesn't come until mid game at level 13 when attacking a flat-footed opponent you can add your intelligence modifier to the damage if you start combat with a surprise attack such as using your Archer long range then you can sometimes catch enemies flat-footed although some are immune to this using greater invisibility is also an easy way to trigger this damage but again some enemies have a way to counter this at level 19 your initiative role is always a natural 20 and considering your intelligence and dexterity modifiers are added to this it's all began guaranteed you're going early finally at level 20 all of the critical threats with your chosen weapon automatically confirm and its critical multiplier is increased by one this is a massive increase to your damage especially if you combine it with the perfect strike mechanics I think it's pretty apparent this class is an S ranking but I don't quite put it at S Plus everything I said probably sounds fantastic and it is you can pump out a tremendous amount of damage using this class keep in mind though that Arcane pool points are very finite resource so perfect strike which is our highest damage dealing ability is not something you could just use constantly pound for pound sword saying probably could do the highest amount of single Target damage in the game but only in limited spurts as opposed to a class like kineticist that constantly lays down crazy damage but doesn't quite hit the ceiling sword saying can reach that wraps up my rankings from Marcus and all of its archetypes in summary I rank Marcus B arcane writer s armored battle
