all right [Music] what's going on everybody mortum here this time bringing you my beginner's guide to prestige classes for Pathfinder Wrath of the righteous with the enhanced Edition launching very very soon I'm going back and kind of updating some of my content for it so naturally I figured we'd talk about the prestige classes what they are how to use them what each one is kind of good at ones to stay away from that type of stuff so we're going to go through the list talk about some of its strengths and weaknesses and then at the end we'll do a bit of a summary but let's start with what Prestige classes actually are these are essentially classes that have entry requirements meaning that you have to typically be at least level four or five before you can even think about using them and thus they are inherently multi-classes all of the prestige classes will be at the bottom of the class sheet until you can use them at which point they'll be added in with the rest of the classes however each individual Prestige class has entry requirements this can vary from things like feeds to a certain amount of points and skills and until you meet those you simply we cannot use these but that's pretty much what Prestige classes are pretty straightforward however in some cases these Prestige classes will actually carry forth mechanics from the base classes such as the Arcane or Divine spell casting progression hexes in one case sometimes the classes of a Prestige class will stack with other classes in terms of determining which Feats you qualify for that type of stuff as such using Prestige classes takes a bit more know-how than a lot of the regular classes do furthermore each Prestige class only has 10 levels as these are of course not designed to be pure level 1 through 20 classes now with no further Ado let's actually start talking about some of these individually starting at the top with aldori sword Lord truthfully this is one of the weaker Prestige classes overall and this is primarily because what it gets are things you can basically get elsewhere without having to do everything to meet the requirements to use this particular Prestige class at level one you get decks to damage instead of having to use your strength for your damage bonuses you can use dexterity but you can get that through other means already they also get something called shatter confidence which you can essentially get from other places as well via feeds so while the outdoori sword Lord isn't the worst option it's just not a very elegant one could you use it sure but you probably won't want to and that brings us to Arcane trickster this is one of the better Prestige classes period And this is because it will allow you to use sneak attacks with your spells which is one of the best damage options for Blaster casters as they like to be called or basically damaged focused casting classes however in this particular game we did get the addition of bolster metamagic which did take away the steam from Arcane trickster a little bit but it is still very very effective as being able to sneak attack with Arcane trickster is still a fantastic option and with their impromptu sneak attack class feature they will be able to apply sneak attacks in situations where they normally wouldn't get them which combined with of the righteous is very liberal approach to sneak attacks it's a very strong way to play the game but that of course brings us to Assassin assassin is probably the worst class in the game period Prestige or otherwise even on Lower difficulties you probably wouldn't want to use this and that is purely because most enemies are immune to the main thing this thing tries to do so assassins specialize in Poison use which allows them to apply poisons that deal ability score damage however like I said most enemies you're gonna fight are completely immune to this there is no way to bypass that on your end they are just flat out immune to the main thing this class tries to do unless you're playing on like story or something for role play value do not pick assassin it's terrible but that brings us to Dragon Disciple Dragon Disciple on the other hand is quite good though typically speaking you won't see a lot of people going all 10 levels in this this is a very common four level dip as the first four levels of Dragon Disciple are very strong and can get you quite a bit of stuff bonuses to your strength score bonuses to your AC and extra use of your breath weapon if you're already a sorcerer these four levels of Dragon Disciple will carry forward your draconic bloodline if you have one from being a sorcerer or potentially another class that gets one however much beyond that you don't see a lot of people use it mostly because the benefits from everything after level four tend to fall off so if you're on normal or something and you really want to lean into the draconic bloodline part of your sorcerer you can pick up the whole 10 levels of Dragon Disciple it'll work fine but for the more efficiency oriented people you're probably only going to take four levels of Dragon Disciple now that brings us to the Duelist duelist is an interesting one because it has an amazing Synergy with one particular class but that particular class probably also wouldn't necessarily use it because the pure version of that class the mega sword Saint is already theoretically the highest damage in the game as it is but nonetheless it can be very fun and outside of that like one very specific instance duelist isn't that great but it does have a good amount amount of role play value via you know being a duelist someone who parries attacks and then hits enemies with counter attacks it's not bad by any means but it's also not the most amazing option you could possibly make unless you use it again with a very specific build in mind but most of the time duelist really isn't that good and then we have Eldritch Knight Eldritch Knight is a pretty cool option because this allows you to carry forth both your fighter levels for Feats their full base attack bonus as well as an Arcane Caster line and then at level 10 if they confirm a critical they can Quicken a spell which means use it as a swift action within the next two rounds overall a pretty cool option I would say the Magus as a class kind of does the same thing but if you don't want to play a Magus and you still want to play someone who is in melee and also can cast spells confidently Eldritch Knight is a very solid option for you and then we have hell night hellnight is one of the better Prestige classes overall for starters they get things like Smite chaos most of the enemies were fighting are going to be chaotic they get a lot of other bonuses depending on what order they go with and at level 10 they can even get special weapon abilities just from being a hell Knight now in terms of raw damage there are a few better options but if you really want to play a heavily armored hell night it's actually a very solid option for you and it fits in with the theme of the entire Adventure path very well so it does very well damage wise even if it's not like the best of the best while simultaneously being very role play friendly and because of that hell night is a fantastic option for people which makes hell night signifer which I am probably definitely going to call signifier at some point a kind of bummer this class is a real letdown hell night signifier is essentially a spell casting hell night but the problem here is that it uses heavy armor and armor in Pathfinder 1e is not well balanced combine that with the Mythic ability Arc Mage Armor and heavy armor casters are actually at a disadvantage when it comes to ironically boosting their AC which makes this kind of less interesting as a result it's still an option like if you really want to play this you can I probably wouldn't take it into the higher difficulties but it's an option if you want it to be but overall it's much weaker than it really should be which is a bummer and then we have loremaster again one of the best Prestige classes you can pick loremaster is great for casters that have uninteresting class features to be honest so if your class features for your casting class don't actually give you much you can pick up loremaster and use this to get off-class spells feeds that type of stuff they get to pick up Secrets every few levels which can be Feats and spells from other casting classes as well as a few other things overall pretty cool option very common and a very great option for classes with very boring progression because you can carry forth your spell progression from that class while also actually doing something with the levels besides just getting more spells which in the case of several classes actually is basically all they get and that brings us to the Mystic Theater another Caster type however this one sacrifices a bit of damage potential to combine Divine and Arcane spell casting you'll need in order to use this particular Prestige class the ability to cast from Arcane and divine spell casting schools however this Prestige class allows you to carry forth the progression of both of them and you get a ton of extra spell slots now in many cases this will again potentially limit your damage potential however what you get in return are just spells for days especially if you use the Abundant casting Mythic abilities which just grant you more spell slots for certain spell levels Mystic the urge can just cast non-stop all the time because if they just have such an intense amount of spells which can make up for the bit of damage they may or may not lose from their classes very strong pick you'll see this one used quite a bit and that brings us to a stalwart Defender this one one is incredibly average it's not bad if you're playing on like normal or something and want to build a tankier character then stalwart Defender is a decent way to go the problem here is that on higher difficulties you want to focus on dealing more damage than trying to reduce incoming damage because it just doesn't work very well at least in the way this class tries to which is primarily through things like damage reduction Etc but the damage enemies aren't unfair for instance do is so much more than the damage reduction this gives that it's just not worth your time but if you're on like normal or something and want to play a tankier character stalwart Defender can be a decent choice but that brings us to student of War for most people student of war is useless you could potentially play it as a role play option yes but their big thing is know your enemy which allows them to get bonuses depending on a stance they decide to take which can obviously be a cool mechanical thing to play around but it's not very strong overall even with their bonuses to attacks the main reason people would want to take student of war is their second level ability called Mind Over metal which change changes their decks to AC to intelligence to AC but the problem with this is that the classes that would want to use that aren't going to meet the requirements to actually use student of War which would require them to take Feats that they just would not take otherwise for an ability that isn't that crazy seeing as most casters don't wear armor and thus get their full Dex to AC bonus anyway which can easily be augmented through Buffs and items so it's just one of those things where it's decent if you're playing a normal or something and enjoy the role play value you can absolutely play this but the like min max reason if you would that people would want to take this for is kind of more trouble than it's worth and that brings us to Winter witch winter Witch is a pretty cool idea but it is incredibly Niche this is basically for Shaman and the actual witch class that want to carry forth their hexes will also specializing in cold spells the problem with this is that there's not a lot of great cold spells in the game and one of its key abilities unearthly cold is just outright a worse version of a Mythic ability called ascendant element cold unearthly cold will bypass resistances to cold by half but if you pick up ascendant element cold you completely bypass them with your cold spells which means if you want to take six levels in Winter witch to get the increased Caster level to your cold spells it could potentially be useful and it has a ton of role play value but the issue is it's a very Niche choice that is basically only good for one build which means most people are never going to use it but that's the general gist of all of the individual Prestige classes so just to kind of summarize and talk about the best ones from the top Arcane trickster is fantastic if you're going for a Max damage spell Caster most people are going to pick up Arcane trickster especially if they're using Ray attacks assassin is absolutely terrible don't ever pick that Dragon Disciple makes a Fantastic Four level dip Eldritch Knight is really cool if you want to play a Gish character that is not a Magus helmite is very strong one of the better Prestige classes overall loremaster and Mystic thiege are great for casting classes that don't have a lot else going on besides the fact that they cast spells for instance the Base Class wizard Springs to mind and then a lot of the other classes besides those are various levels of okay now that's not to say they're unusable as I've mentioned Prestige classes are really build dependent if you build to use a prestige Class A lot of them have potential to be quite good especially if you're just playing on normal for instance and if you want to mix up your playthrough and use something beyond the base classes I would encourage you to try out some of the better Prestige classes that can be a lot of fun and add a lot of role play value to the game so beyond all that I certainly hope you enjoyed the video if you did like comment subscribe all that YouTube jazz but regardless of any of that truly thank you so much for watching I really do appreciate it may you wander in wisdom and have an amazing day [Music] foreign [Music]
