Palworld isn't JUST Pokemon with Guns

what's going on everyone Austin John plays here and today we're going to be talking about power world on this channel I cover Nintendo switch and Nintendo related stuff and I'm willing to bet a fair amount of money that most people who watch my channel have a Nintendo switch over some other consoles but this is a game that's been getting some traction and on opening weekend sold over 5 million copies and is available on PC on Steam and available on Xbox and it was part of Xbox game pass and a lot of people are calling this game Pokemon with guns and it kind of is that but it's really really not so I want to take a little bit of time and basically go over what power world is all about in case you're interested or really want to know what's going on this game is available in Early Access I have it on Steam version 1.2.0 you can play offline but the real magic actually comes from being able to play with other people on a server and while you may see a whole bunch of fun cuddly creatures that's really not most of it all of the fun cuddly creatures that you see the pals their biggest responsibility is basically run your base of operations that's really it and all of them have different tasks that they excel at like they can move items around and water type ones are able to water plants and Mills and stuff like that so yeah they all serve a very specific purpose and at the beginning of the game uh your primary Weaponry is going to be bows bows and arrows and then eventually you do unlock muskets and gunpowder and then actual guns but I have to say the guns feel really out of place as you're going around you're going to be using items called pal spheres in order to catch these wild Pals so when you come across a pal you can either send out one of your pals so cativo over here is going to start fighting Lambo and it was a one shot because I'm level 11 and that was level one now the other lbl that it spawned with they're going to become aggressive and now it's it's low on HP so I could throw a pal sphere had a 90% catch rate that's some really low 90% 94% and these ones over here for some reason are fighting each other because of I don't know disagreements but the part that really feels out of place is when you take a basball bat and you start bludgeoning them and then you throw balls as opposed to most of the core Pokemon games where your whole point is to catch one or two this game plays a little bit more like Pokemon Legends archus in that you want to go around and catch a whole bunch of them and every time that you defeat them as you'll see on the left I got red berries for defeating that cat and I got wool and muten for defeating that lamb but also if I go ahead and I catch it I get the same mob drops so there's really not an incentive to defeat them over catching them you should always be catching them now as you play through you're also going to be seeing um absolutely giant creatures as soon as you start off you're going to be seeing a level 38 called a mamist who's going to be essentially right at the beginning of the game this is my main playthrough that I'm playing with some friends I'm about 70 or 80 hours in after the weekend I got a free code for the game about 4 hours before the game came out so technically this game is sponsored by them because it was a free product that's the legal disclosure and this game plays so much differently than Pokemon it's about exploring it's about Gathering resources and it's about grinding materials if you like games that involve going around and grinding materials in a in a grindy system like that and building up things and having different resources at your camp or base then it's a fantastic game Loop like Lego fortnite was that was a free game for everyone I played a lot of that uh New World the Amazon games game when that came out that had a fun game Loop that you would just go around and gather resources same kind of gathering system like that one of the best parts about that is all of the different Pals that you're going to be catching you're able to integrate with them in different ways guys do you know that it's January where CPM is like really really low and like if you watch a video a YouTube content creator gets less than half of the money that they do during December because all the advertisers pull out and the rates go down so I want to say windows steam PS4 and 5 you can pre-order it now and aunch this February 2nd 2024 Groundhog's Day and while I didn't get a copy to review they did send over a whole bunch of footage which I've been showing you and even more than this and it looks pretty great and I'm I'm excited to play this I'm going to buy this game with my own money partially with the money that they paid me to talk about this game and I'm going to play this game myself Persona 3 reload comes out February 2nd 2024 get it if you want it here's the tech tree and the tech tree has different tools like pickaxes and axes and then your different spheres to catch the pals also a whole bunch of Camp goods and now you're going to start seeing that there's a fox parks's harness well the thing about the fox pox harness is I choose to have him hop into my hands I'm now hanging on to him and I could choose to use Huggy fire which makes him into a flamethrower now there are Elemental types in the game but uh that really doesn't play too much into it I can't use it for the trees walking around using my fire fox as a flamethrower fun stuff now also this Daydream over here uh she's just going to be following me around because that's her special ability that when she's just in the party and not actually out there she's going to be accompanying you and if I decide to start opening fire on something with either my pal or just with my crossbow or whatever else oop she's going to be shooting this very powerful dark attack because she's level 34 and that was a level 10 deer because of that you may not want them to immediately attack your enemies and you can control that nice Little Radical wheel that God it's the worst formatting ever I know this game was made by Japanese developers but it looks like they did not even try to Center these things as you're going around in the world you're going to be coming across random eggs you can breed pretty much every single pal in the game including like your legendary ones for different Pals you can breed down specific eggs you can crossbreed there's different Elemental variants of a specific type of pal so there's like fun beta versions of them one of my favorite Pals is dig toys and his ability lets me basically just mine whatever resources I want and he looks like if Bowser and Blastoise had a baby it would look like this absolutely love the design but yeah fantastic for Gathering resources there's also ones that let you get around easier like this one Nightwing that lets you literally just start flying you have a stamina meter so you're not flying forever so it's not broken but the fact that you just come come up here and now you can do your battle from the sky or you start throwing spheres to catch Pals on the ground a lot of fun as you're going through the world you're going to be coming across some of the alpha PALS like this chillet over here uh yes Alpha is the specific term that they use granted I am much higher level than him but I could take out this giant panda with an electric Mohawk and then I could decide to uh take out a grenade launcher and start using a grenade launcher at this Alpha chillet and then I could also control the attacks while on top of him or I could fight alongside like you saw before it's a fun game you could do some fun ridiculous stuff but all of that feels okay and the part that just feels weird is like oh instead of you know bringing the down their health by using attacks I'm just going to P that feels wrong you know what I mean that's the biggest difference here is that pals are not Pokemon Pokemon are your friends you're going on a journey with them pals are just animals they are tools we as a society uh eat fish and chicken and cow every single day and we hunt deer that's what you're seeing here you're not going to catch it and then it's going to be your friend instead you're going to cook venison fish are food not friends one of the things this game does really well is what I call the waterfall effect thanks to the Legend of Zelda whenever you're experiencing around a world and you come across a waterfall you just expect there to be treasure behind it and this game really rewards you every single time that you want to start exploring also I don't know why these two guys are fighting but they are if I was at the beginning of the game I could wait until one of them knocks each other out it's at like 1 HP and then I throw my spheres and I might be lucky enough for that 0.1% chance great example these two uh tops of castles over here here's a large dark egg that's going to hatch me a pal and here's a treasure chest your sense of exploration is constantly rewarded in this game as far as story goes there's not really story at all I mean there's these little journal entries on tiny little uh iPads i throughout the game and if you collect them and read them you might get some story but not really oh look someone's someone's base is up there I don't even know whose base that is see just a whole bunch of friends playing together yep that's a iron mining area that makes sense because I got the game a little bit early when we started up the server I knew exactly where I wanted to build my base it's a place with a whole bunch of iron in it I've now made my second base at a place with even more iron so if you're playing here is a fun little spot right there on the map you can see the coordinates in the bottom left there's is a fantastic place with coal and iron every time I go there it's like 400 to 600 ingots and this place even has a fun black marketeer down here this game has a black market because you don't supposed to catch people in pal speres but you can and no one's going to stop you and you can just catch people it's on the left they call him a cheeky bastard because I couldn't catch him it's not a kid game this is if you were to take the idea of how we treat animals in real life and apply that to Pokémon that would be Pals get the idea of cute cuddly familyfriendly stuff out of your mind because if you have a whole bunch of water type Pals and you need some water type resources you could get a butcher's knife and you could butcher some of the pals that you have for their drops instead of catching them which is so weird but you can you can do that there's also the question of like are these designs infringing or trademark violations of Pokemon take a look at Anubis over here Anubis is modeled after the Egyptian god Anubis makes sense and people would say oh well it looks like a Lucario and that's because Lucario was modeled after the Egyptian god Anubis and you might see this large dinosaur looking thing who's an electric type with a flower on its head and you're like well that's an Aeros with a flower on its head if that's how you see it but it's not infringing on the trademark cuz it's not that maybe that's the point the point that it feels familiar but it's not exactly the same granted some of them feel like just a straight up Fusion like verd Das over here is very clearly a cinder rase mixed with a pan Sage it even has the same nose and mouth as pan sage and it has the same outfit cut as Cinder rase because you know he's a football player so he has the football outfit and the shorts go going on so it's kind of the point the designs of the pals make so little difference they could put out an update and change all of the pals that are even near copyright infringement or trademark violation and I would still love this game because I like the gameplay Loop this company also did a game heavily inspired by breath of the wild and it did not do well this game has done very well so it's only question now of are they going to continue supporting it are there going to be updates they sold 5 million copies opening weekend this was the number one game played online on Steam with over 1 million concurrent players Saturday night of launch and other than some firstperson Shooters on release weekend and free games like fortnite you don't see those numbers if this game was also on the Nintendo switch which I don't know how it could even run a game like this then then you would see that huge crossover audience but this game being on Steam and it being on Xbox you know the grown adult consoles it feels like Pokemon but for grown adults does that make sense I hope it does cuz that's that's what I wanted to get across here um I'm enjoying it a lot if it's going to last me more than an additional week or two once I hit Level 50 and Max everything out I don't know maybe those online interactions with friends will do it we'll have to wait and see if you are playing power world and this video has a lot of traction and you want guides from me heck I could do that
