this is overcomplicated lifehacks volume 7 in this episode we'll take viewer-submitted problems from our comment section and design an irrational yet functional solution our first one comes from uber dragon he says I definitely have a problem that requires a needlessly complicated solution whenever I want butter on my bun it's always tough to cover the whole surface the truth is when it comes to getting butter the perfect temperature a little bit of time is required so why not enjoy yourself while simultaneously thawing your butter at the same time monster PCs are known to produce a lot of heat and learn luck because that's exactly what we've got here so head over to your PC tower and carefully remove the side panel place it somewhere safe and grab your butter dish go ahead and place that on the bottom of your tower for best results go ahead and seal the case back up but only if you have a window on your case you're gonna need to keep a close eye on this in a second because here comes the secret ingredient boom that's right farming simulator 17 the most graphic intensive game on the market today now you could use something else like far cry 5 if you've got it but the margarine of air is pretty large go in there and crank up all your graphics settings to 11 we're talking ultra everything make your system hurt and beg for mercy as you dive into the exciting world of agricultural enlightenment after about a minute your butter will be going from solid ice block to molten mass of milk fat whoo just look at that physics engine it's really working the graphics card and heating things up in fact we're almost done here just go ahead and dump your vehicle in the river and exit out of the program if you put your side panel back on it's time to remove it again and claim your delicious bounty now when you go to butter that bread there will be absolutely zero fuss it'll spread out nice and smooth every time and because we got to enjoy the most advanced simulation of the millennium you didn't even notice how quickly time passed next ah Felix 7 ssj2 left us this beautiful girl Marian comment sometime I am cyclic couch but one reached the remote but can't how to reach remote went too far for my arm alright let's make an extendable set of hands to grab things that are out of reach when you're trying to relax I got myself 12 cheap rulers in some nuts and bolts to hold them all together each ruler we'll need three holes one being perfectly centered and the other two equidistant from the two edges the problem here is that only two of the holes needed are present but that's an easy fix flip one ruler around and line it up on top of the other grab a marker and fill in the spot where you'll need to drill a hole out these types of rulers are fairly common so you'll find that a quarter-inch drill bit will be just the right size oh and same goes for the screws as well these were 30 cents a pop so it's pretty cheap plastic that being said you'll want to slowly apply pressure as you pour out the new hole I had a couple mistakes along the way but it wasn't anything a little superglue couldn't patch up once you've got the three perfect holes in your rulers it's time to start the assembly I'll be using the two blue ones as handles just insert a bolt into the center hole and attach them together it's important that you don't over tighten because flexibility is key it just screw down the hex nut until you meet a tiny bit of resistance and then stop now attach the end of your next set of rollers to the end of the handles follow exactly the same procedure as before no over tightening nonsense okay in order to keep things level alternate between rulers being on top and bottom with each new set just work your way down the line meticulously forming an extendable appendage to do our bidding now this is optional but once you have everything bolted together and secured it isn't a bad idea to put a little squeeze of hot glue over each hex nut this way they won't come undone when operating the final device but will still remain loose enough for fluid movement excellent it certainly has a good reach but how do you make it actually grab an object I'm glad you asked the answer is gloves oh and popsicle sticks hey listen I bought a bunch of these I want to use them attach one stick to the inside of each ruler yes it's a very thin surface area so hold it in place until it dries this is gonna serve as a base plate for the hands that we're about to make in the essence of brevity I'll try and keep this short pop a stick into each finger inside the glove form it into the shape of a nice wide open hand just imagine opening your hand and copy that now glue everything into place and let it dry and solidify it's done you did it look at this thing this is absolutely ridiculous and amazing at the same time I love it yes it nabbed my delicious beverage and brought it right back to me but what happens if you don't have a surface to slide it on well here we are on the couch again in that pesky oversized remote is conveniently placed upright and just out of reach good thing I have almost 6 feet of additional reach with this flexi grabber but wait it seems to be suffering from some sort of external dysfunction you know these cheap rulers just don't have the rigidity that we need for a wide open space like this but it wasn't all for nothing all you got to do is grab your backup support board that you keep under your couch slide it out carefully and extend the platform from yourself to the other object see no problem now place mr. hands on the board and make him walk the plank see it's smooth sailing from here keep in mind you can use beefier rulers to avoid this problem or brace the rulers with popsicle sticks speaking of which we made a smaller version using popsicle sticks and a couple bottle caps this thing is perfect for small jobs and we're gonna give it away to one look scratch that moving on here's another problem that needs solving from mark Acosta he says how about making a automatic toothbrush so I don't have to buy one in the bargain aisle at Ross well expensive electric toothbrushes aren't just a gimmick they keep your gums healthier and really knock out tartar and plaque honestly even a cheap vibrating brush saves you time and cleans much deeper than a standard toothbrush but if you want to save some money we have a solution you'll need an empty pill bottle you're boring no-frills toothbrush and a drill oh right and a soldering iron some assorted nuts and bolts and hey why not toss in some popsicle sticks for good measure get your soldering iron heat it up and remove the lid from your pill bottle you're going to poke two holes in the top start by hitting the dead center and quickly push in and out now slightly to the left or right make one more hole pretty simple right it should look like this alright now get those screws and find one that fits the size of the holes you made push it all the way in and if you get stuck just bust out that drill and power it on through until it's all the way in now put a washer down and finish it all off with a hex nut you want this to be super snug so tighten it all down and make sure it doesn't wiggle now go ahead and put a screw in the other hole but go the opposite direction this time like before add a washer and a hex nut and tighten it all down until it's snug in here alright get your toothbrush and soldering iron out again it's time to make another hole press the point of the soldering iron through the toothbrush about one inch from the bottom make sure this hole is slightly bigger than the screws you have you're gonna want it to loosely fit over one of them okay now add one more hex nut to the center screw so you get a little more space between the cap and the toothbrush then insert that Center screw into the hole you just made don't put this over the outer screw or what we're making isn't gonna work at all hold the brush in place with a cab or a somewhat loose hex nut you don't want it to be super tight as it needs to be able to move freely oh and guess what we need now hot glue go ahead and drop a layer of glue on top of the drill yes that's correct make sure you don't apply it to any moving parts now put a popsicle stick on the glue and point it off to the side once that's dried cut a little bit off another stick in connected to the bottom of the first one then back to the drill and form a support that'll better hold it all in place when that dries up go ahead and trim off the excess don't worry this will all make sense in a second alright now blue another stick but have this one on top and facing forward careful with this next part build out a tiny little box on the end of the stick make sure it's big enough to fit the bristle into your toothbrush through and that there's enough room for the toothbrush to move insert the brush through the slot and then mount the remaining screw into the drill just as if it were a drill bit because we're mounting the screw that's on the side this will cause a rotation similar to a train wheel so let's fire it up and see alright that is some massive power right there and with great power comes great responsibility you could use this to clean grout or really detail your bathroom but let's be honest we made it for our teeth assuming you don't go full tilt poker with the power and just lightly squeeze the drill trigger you'll have the best electric toothbrush on the block all right what's next silver shot prop came at us with a problem that we all experienced he says when you are on the couch and you need a drink refilled there has to be a better way then get up and refill it he's right there is a better way we call it the 30-foot straw to start you're gonna need a big pack of straws also this thing will be reusable so you don't have to throw straws away when you're done which will help the environment the basic premise is to link a bunch of straws together Alton we forming the Voltron of drinking apparatus I'll be prepping everything by connecting five together at a time with aluminum tape duct tape works to just cut a bunch of little connector pieces to make it all work when you have enough to party just bind the straws together two at a time rolling them on a flat surface won't sure they have no leaks but I also suggest testing as you go to make sure something doesn't slip through the cracks you don't want to have your super straw all done only to find that it's losing pressure at one of the binding points as I mentioned lines of five is a manageable amount so that you can route the straw appropriately through your house or apartment because trust me it's gonna get tricky in a second alright before we place the straws we have to prime our beverage bottle to do this get a large two litre of your favorite drink and remove the cap with a set of pliers or clamps hold it steady and drill a hole as close to the diameter of your straws as possible if you don't have a drill bit that works perfectly you can wiggle it around until you get exactly what you need when that's done screw the cap back onto the bottle and insert a line of two or three straws grab some hot glue and fill in the top gaps make sure you don't glue the cap to the bottle itself once the seal is dry go ahead and trim down the straw that's extending from the bottle cap this bottle is going to end up in the fridge so we want to limit the amount of clearance that's required all right now the trickiest part forming a sealed angle it definitely took me a few tries to nail this but with a combination of tape and cuts to your straw you want to form something resembling a ninety degree angle or at least close to I ended up having serious difficulty forming a perfect seal in just ended up covering the whole thing with hot glue so that leaks were non-existent all right the angle is sealed time to add your first set of straws using a larger piece of tape than usual connect a string of five straws to the one exiting the bottle you'll know you've got it right if your carbonated beverage starts traveling up through the straw while this is a great test it also gets annoying so you can loosen the cap a bit to prevent it moving forward you'll quickly notice that these things are gonna need support so time to see what you've got laying around after hooking up several sets of straws I ended up using a mixture of chairs and camera tripods to keep the straws off the ground and relatively steady and secure you just want to round them all from your fridge to where you want to veg out and relax once you have your path functional and secured in place it's time to hook up the Sodapop hopefully you didn't do that yet pop open your fridge and reattach the angled piece directly to the bottle top double check for any leaks again and if you're good slide the straws out the side of the fridge you'll need to utilize the rubber seal the fridge so that retains its cold temperature but if you're careful you can close it without crushing the tube just analyze the best place to position the exiting straw ultimately ended up using the side position so there was less height for the liquid to travel as you can see the fridge is closed but we're still getting liquid from our bottle on the inside that's great news form all of your final connections on the straws triple checking for any leaks or weak points you can even do a few tests as you go along just take a few pulls off the straw keeping in mind that unless you have a water pump for a mouth you aren't gonna be pulling tremendously large gulps just simple refreshing sips when you're satisfied with your setup then it's time to relax grab a seat get comfy knowing that you have an infinitely cool beverage that's ready to be sipped down as you see fit ah now that is refreshing if you made it this far thanks for sticking it out feel free to post your own problem requests in the comments below because we'll make another one of these in the future thanks for watching and we'll see you next time [Music]
