hey ladies and gents and welcome back today we have a pair of peter millar shell cordovan loafers now we get some peter millar's shoes in here every now and then and you never know quite what you're going to get so we've never had a shell quarter though we've never had shell cordovan which is a huge upgrade from a lot of the peter miller shoes that we usually get in here so tell them what we're going to do on these uh he's had them resold before once maybe twice i don't know but we are going to get these things the works he wants to spruce them up add a little bit of um popping characteristics that you would find in the high-end shoe and so that's what we're going to do we're going to um we're going to blind stitch it he wants toe taps he wants a fiddle waist he wants it colored the soul so yeah we're just gonna sometimes in life you just have to make things fun and that's what we're gonna do to this pair of shoes all right let's get to it [Music] as you see he's still got some life left in these souls but if you want to spruce him up and add things like a fiddle then you're going to have to remove the sole anyways and since he's getting a little closer on the toes now's a good time to do it anyways all right guys heel block is off what i did find is this was only held on by glue and those wire nails you saw me pulling out not a big fan of just using those i see it quite often with cobblers they'll use those wire nails and we've got the machine that uses it too but i like to use those to give the top lift just a little extra bite into the block not to hold the block into the shoe it's a very quick way and all the shoes that i usually get straight from the factory are going to be using nails actual nails to hold your block in and that's what should be done second thing i noticed when i took that off you can see this line here this is a three quarter sole it's got its place but i don't like to use it if i don't have to uh normally what you'll see when you see a three quarter sole it's because the guy doesn't have a leather bend to cut a large enough sole for a guy that's got a ginormous foot but as you see this this is not a big shoe some people will like to do it just to keep the shape of the original sole so that the heel block will definitely fit straight back onto it but if you know what you're doing you should be able to shape it just the way it is anyways so not quite sure why they did a three quarter sole right here um but yeah well it is what it is let's keep going all right guys so when we got the soul off we ran into a little bit of a mystery i'm trying to figure this out and uh we're gonna figure it out but uh i can now i can understand why this guy wants to completely overhaul these and trick them out because this is a good looking shoot shell cordovan and when you're going to have a good looking shoe you want the whole ensemble which is why we're going to talk about today's sponsor anson belts so let me tell you a little story about heath and i we have punched more holes in belts over the years than we can even count anymore it seems like a monthly ritual where customers will bring bag fulls of belts into our shop and need us to punch a lot of holes in all those belts because they've either gained weight or lost weight now the great thing about anson belts is they don't have holes in their belts and they also don't get creases like a lot of the other belts that you see out there that's because ants and belts are built on a micro adjustable ratchet type system so the belt buckle can slide back and forth on their belts always providing a perfect fit so whether you gain weight or whether you lose weight you simply can slide the belt buckle back and forth so that each and every time that belt is fitting you perfectly the other great thing about ants and belts is that they offer a plethora of different options everything from calfskin to exotic skins to suede even a lot of colored canvases as well as vegan belts they also offer a lot of options and their belt buckles so it's really cool because everything is interchangeable so no matter what outfit you have no matter what shoes you have you can always readjust those belt buckles with those belts and always find the perfect belt for that outfit or that shoe that you have so anson is offering a really sweet deal right now for a hundred bucks you can choose between two different belt buckles and three different belts or two belts and three different belt buckles so between that you are getting a combination of six different belts you can't beat that deal anywhere also if you don't feel like buying these the set you can also buy all of their belts and their belt buckles individually now heath and i met the father-son owners of this family-owned business about a year ago down atlanta they are really great folks amazing customer service and if you know our business we are all about supporting family-owned businesses so definitely check out ants and belts in the description below after this video go on to their site pick out some belts i promise you you will not be disappointed all right so i think we solved this mystery what it looks like was that this shoe uh has a blake welt but then from the factory they used a sole but they split the sole all the way back they then insole stitch it like a blake rapid but it's not a stitch on the outside they just used an insole stitcher which is actually a chain stitch and the cobbler before when he took the sole off he saw basically what we're seeing right now and he was a little skittish to probably remove this and cut these stitches but we're not so we're going to cut all these stitches remove this whole thing get it back down to the welt and then we're just going to build it like a shoe should be um as you can see this had a little bit of a fiddle thing but it was just plastic and just cracked so we're going to build a real one out of leather all right so we're starting on our fiddle waist now and this is just the base piece normally you've got a we do this on a lot of goodyear welted so there's a cavity in here but this is blake stitch so this is just folded over and so we're going to carve this and then we'll start stacking leather up and to it comes to a point all right so we have put our uh fiddle in shaped it um they had foam in here originally now this since it is a blake stitch shoe there isn't an actual cavity to fill it with cork so um we put a piece of eva in there and it just scabbed it down on the edges it's just going to give a little bit of padding and also it's flexible enough that you can transition the sole uh towards the edge and it won't bulge up so we're going to put the welt on now uh you all right so we get a lot of questions from people just who aren't shoe guys and they ask why are you putting the metal tips on the toe is one of the first places to wear out on a shoe and so a lot of guys like to get a high quality sole that's going to last a long time but then they want to tip it off with some lulu's or some triumphs and it just adds a little bit of character to it and also just prolongs the life of the shoe so this guy wants traps i've just outlined it now and i'm going to go ahead and pre-cut it even though we are doing a blind stitch on this all right guys i'm just going to put a little wax along the edges here and that'll just make that shine up and really pop and then what i'll do is go along this shell cordovan and i'll use shell cordovan cream to bring out the shine and the condition that uh that height as well okay so i've got two different colors of the uh cordovan cream this is not actually renovateur for any of you guys i want to know uh these creams are made specifically for shell cordovan so i'm going to use neutral on this color here and then i'm going to use a little bit of dark brown just on the toes and the back okay ladies and gents so we have finished up this pair of shoes but before we go any further again check out the link below to anson belts today's video sponsor and check those guys out i promise you you will not be uh upset or disappointed at all and the belts you're gonna love them they're a game changer absolutely all right now before we show you the final product on these shoes i need you to go down below i need you to give me one of these if you can give me two i'd love it but you can't make sure you tell your friends share this video and all the in between it really does help us with the algorithm it helps to get the video out there i know like tens of thousands of you guys usually watch these videos so all of you just go down now and hit the like button all right here's the final product so what do we do we uh we did a close channel on these jr souls he went with the jr classic hill on these uh we did have to rebuild the hills because he's doing a fiddle waste down the spine of the of it that we had to actually curve and it's got a little bit of different shape so we did have to build a new hillblock with that and then we capped them off with some triumph toe plates did a little burgundy action on there shined up and uh we oh and we did have to replace the welt on these so um yeah so yeah one of the things that we also mentioned at the beginning of the video we actually thought these were goodyear welted a lot of times for shell cordovan shoes you generally get a goodyear welt with that but because these are italian made so often if you guys don't know a lot of italian made shoes are lower profile and in order to get that they go with a lot of blake stitch shoes yeah they like that sleek look in order to get that you pretty much can't do a goodyear wealth well you can but it's very difficult yeah so it kind of threw us for a loop yeah but i think they look great these were costly and i know a lot of you guys are going to ask in the comments how much was it okay it was around 470. now yeah it's a lot of money but you got to remember most shell cordovan shoes on average are going around 700 or above so instead of going out and just buying another pair for almost double what he paid for this you know he wanted to trick him out have some fun with it and continue wearing on you know the shoes that he has and if you can if you can kind of trick them out at one time and they're going to last a long time especially with those plates on the top then it's worth it he'll be ready to go for a long time with his pair again thank you so much for joining us and until next time y'all have a good [Music] one
